Today on America in the MorningUS Continues Iran Attacks While both sides are not saying the ceasefire is over, the US military conducted a second round of what CENTCOM is describing as “self-defense” strikes against targets in Iran, which comes after the Iranian military shot down an Apache attack helicopter patrolling near the Strait of Hormuz.  Correspondent Ed Donahue reports on the rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran, and comes as President Trump continues to say a peace deal is within reach, while Iran's leaders are warning they will defend against any aggression, and on Wednesday fired on US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.   Reactions To Graham Platner President Trump called him a “thug,” and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said his name on the ballot is “hard to stomach.”  Democrats and Republicans are reacting to a primary win for a Democrat candidate for Senate in Maine.  Correspondent Clayton Neville reports.   Southern Baptist Convention The Southern Baptists held their convention in Florida, where they elected a new president, and also approved a constitutional amendment that would bar women from serving as pastors in their church.  Correspondent Lisa Dwyer reports.   World Cup Controversies The first matches for the World Cup soccer will begin today in Mexico, who along with the United States and Canada are the host nations for the tournament, but not every stadium will be sold out.  As correspondent Haya Panjwani reports, the games are beginning with controversy, which includes visa issues for Iran, FIFA's president defending some sky-high ticket prices and acknowledging a Somali referee was denied U.S. entry.   Chicago Cross Burning It was a shocking scene in the Windy City as police in Chicago are investigating a cross burning in a public park.  The details from correspondent Donna Warder.   NBA Finals Record Comeback Security in New York City wasn't as heavy for the NBA Finals as it was when President Trump attended the game, but it was still a show of force.  Correspondent Julie Walker reports.   Gates Testifies One of the richest men in the world went to Capitol Hill and sat before the House Oversight Committee behind closed doors to give testimony on his relationship with the late-Jeffrey Epstein.  Correspondent Ed Donahue reports what Bill Gates was asked in the Jeffrey Epstein congressional investigation.   Investigating California's Toxic Tank Federal authorities issued search warrants and collected documents at the California plant where a toxic chemical tank overheated, forcing thousands to evacuate last month.   Correspondent Haya Panjwani reports - audio courtesy of KNBC-TV Los Angeles.   Hegseth Addresses Troops In Cuba Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth traveled to Cuba to visit American troops at Guantanamo Bay.  Sue Aller reports the Secretary of War praised the troops, but also warned Iran that the US will negotiate peace with force, and if Cuba sought weapons it could invite a US military response.   Inflation Higher Rising gas prices pushed inflation to its highest level in three years for the month of May.  Correspondent Marcela Sanchez reports this could have an impact on any thoughts of cutting key interest rates. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and Human Settlements has welcomed the swift arrest of three armed security guards accused of attacking an e-hailing driver and several women in KwaNdengezi. The arrests followed intervention by MEC Siboniso Duma, who has praised the coordinated response by law enforcement, including SAPS teams led by Lt General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, as well as Operation Shanela, the Road Traffic Inspectorate, and Durban Metro Police. The incident has once again raised concerns around safety in the e-hailing sector and the conduct of private security personnel. When retirement policymakers sought to incentivize small businesses to begin offering retirement plans in an effort to help close the coverage gap, they did so in part by creating greatly expanded federal tax credits that would offset their cost in providing those plans.But research has found fewer than 6% of eligible employers are properly claiming the tax credit—and that's a problem that doesn't sit well with retirement plan advisor Will Hackler, AIF, the “401(k) Fix-It Guy” who is the Managing Partner at Integrated Pension Services. In sports, the Brewers beat the Astros yesterday to take 2 out of 3 from Houston over the weekend, a look at the NHL & NBA Finals which both begin this week, Denny Hamlin wins at the Cracker Barrel 400 in Nashville yesterday, and a Blue Jays outfielder gets injured in a very strange way. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and Brian recapped the new movie "Backrooms"…which set a record over the weekend. Plus, a Love Island cast member gets kicked off the show right before the premiere of the new season. Elsewhere in sports, the family of the late Claude Lemieux is donating his brain for CTE research, the latest on Brendan Sorsby, and a Reds reporter tries the new Skyline chili egg roll at the ballpark. Why Your Immune System May Be Attacking Its Own Tissue (The Gut Connection) | Podcast #477

Hello friends! Today's a hybrid episode — some security content up top about a new certification I've kicked off, followed by an aggressively quick trip to Tangent Town. Feel free to bail after the security stuff if tangents aren't your thing! The security part: starting CARTP I've started the Certified Azure Red Team Professional course from Altered Security (enterprisesecurity.io). It's the Azure follow-up to CRTP, which I took a few years back. Quick notes: Why now: Active Directory and internal pentests will always be my first love, but more and more of our customers are shifting to hybrid or full-Azure environments. Time to get some formal training in that lane. Self-paced vs. live: They offer both. I'm past the point of giving up Saturdays to security training, so I went with the ~$500 self-paced 30-day option. You get a portal, a lab manual, and a remote Windows VM with low-priv creds into a target Azure tenancy to attack and enumerate. The catch: The lab manual is thorough on "do this, see this output" steps, but light on "and here's the wow moment hiding in line 47 of the output." With the live class, an instructor would highlight that stuff in real time. In the self-paced version, you're on your own to find the meaning in 200 lines of output. The fix: Started a Claude project that's effectively co-teaching the class with me. I paste command output and ask "what's the important bit here?" — Claude pulls out the line that matters and explains why (e.g., "this user has write access to a key vault, which means…"). Way more efficient than ALT-TABbing alone. Tools I've touched so far: ROADtools, GraphRunner, and Monkey365 (kind of a PingCastle-for-Azure that spits out a health-check report). Where I'm at: Module 4 of 40-something. Course culminates in a 24-hour exam, which I swore I'd never do again after CRTP — but James Bond and Justin Bieber both say "Never say never." Tangent Town: The Shake Shack incident. It's gross and not funny. But kind of funny. Saw (and sort of met) Calum Scott at the Fillmore in Minneapolis. Standing-room-only venue, but my wife found a clutch spot wedged between a security barrier and a support beam, perfect for our family. During an acoustic set, Calum and his band came right past us. My wife (unable to help herself) gave his shoulder a squeezy squeeze. I held out for the fist bump on his return trip to the stage — and we're basically best friends now. I highly recommend his show: very positive guy, family-friendly, genuine. Seven super-fast non-spoilery movie reviews from plane rides and hotel nights: Coherence — for smart people. I am not those people. Probably great if you can follow it. Deadstream (Netflix) — YouTuber live-streams a night in a haunted house. Surprisingly entertaining, a couple of real jump-scares. Get Away — a family vacations on a forbidden island. Goes somewhere unexpected in the third act. Hell House LLC — found-footage haunted house. A couple of genuine flinches; story was just OK. Hokum — Adam Scott as a writer at a hotel with a personal history. Creepy-crawly, goes to some dark places. Loved it. Predator: Badlands — went in expecting mind-numbing action, but I loved it! I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10. It had action, LOLs, and even some tender Predator moments. Going to watch it again soon. Obsession — young man buys a wish-granting trinket so a young lady will like him. It works. Then it really works. The movie slowly goes into full-on bonkers sauce mode!
