US forces have seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela in a major escalation of Donald Trump's campaign against the country's president, Nicolás Maduro, whose government called the seizure an act of international piracy. In the news this week, the President's birthday was added to the list of free entry days at the National Parks, meanwhile Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth were removed from the list. On today's show, host Allen Ruff is joined by activist and scholar Nicholas Powers to talk about the Trump administration's attacks on Black history and his latest article for Truthout, “Black History Has the Power to Ignite Movements. That's Why the Right Fears It.” Powers says that the Trump Administration is waging attacks on Black history at three levels: the economic, the cultural, and through voting rights. The closed doors of the African American History Museum in DC are both a symbolic and material closing off of Black history and culture. And that's added to the mass firings of more than 300,000 Black employees from their federal positions. The Trump administration is also criminalizing the teaching of Black history in schools. Attacking school curriculum gives permission to conservative activists who are now rewarded for promoting greater and greater acts of racism. The softening or erasing of the historical reality of American slavery and racism creates what Powers calls “a cartoon image of the nation,” one in which the US is presented as a nation always living up to its values. In Black history, Powers says, there is an opposing grand narrative to the American Dream, that of the American nightmare. He says we need a vision of “American realism” that is taught by Black history: that Black Americans belong here through their blood sweat and tears and that we're all equal in the eyes of god. Moreover, Black history has a transformative effect, empowering people to see more clearly the strategies and tactics that Black people used to gain greater freedom. Powers previews that there's another social movement, another wave, on its way to counter the reactionary work of the Right. When it arrives, we should add ourselves to it so that it becomes stronger.  Nicholas Powers is the author of Thirst, a political vampire novel; The Ground Below Zero: 9/11 to Burning Man, New Orleans to Darfur, Haiti to Occupy Wall Street; and most recently, Black Psychedelic Revolution. He has been writing for Truthout since 2011. Labour's threat to the ancient right of Trial by JuryNick Cohen and Francis FitzGibbon KC - a prominent barrister and former chair of the Criminal Bar Association - discuss the proposal by Labour politicians, including Sir Keir Starmer and David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, to restrict the right to trial by jury, which Nick finds astonishing given Starmer's previous advocacy for human rights and anti-racism. Francis argues against the proposed changes, which Nck thinks could expose ethnic minority defendants to unchecked racism. In this talk, I will discuss recent research projects at the intersection of software security and automated reasoning. Specifically, I will present our work on assessing the exploitability of the Android kernel and developing complex exploits for it, as well as our efforts to uncover bugs in Rust's unsafe code through fuzzing.Throughout the talk, I will highlight how Large Language Models (LLMs) can support both attackers and defenders in analyzing complex software systems, and I will present key lessons on using LLMs effectively along with the practical challenges that arise when integrating them into software security workflows. About the speaker: Dr. Antonio Bianchi's research interest lies in the area of Computer Security. His primary focus is in the field of security of mobile devices. Most recently, he started exploring the security issues posed by IoT devices and their interaction with mobile applications. As a core member of the Shellphish and OOO teams, he played and organized many security competitions (CTFs), and won the third place at the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge.

Part 7 When one is dealing with a cult, there are always two main areas where the scope of the target is aimed.  Attacking either one of these is enough to designate a group a cult, but more commonly, one will find that the cults delight in destroying both.  What are these two areas of repeated attack?  The person of Jesus Christ and the doctrine of justification by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.  No cult will ever discard the name of Jesus, as the devil seeks through subtilty to catch the unsuspected soul off guard.  Muslims have a Jesus, Jehovah's Witnesses have a Jesus, the Roman Catholic Church has a Jesus, and so do the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The question is not whether they have a Jesus but which Jesus.  Do they have the real Jesus of Holy Scripture?   How is one to determine whether the Jesus Christ of Mormonism is the Jesus Christ of Scripture?  How is one to know whether the Jesus Christ of the LDS Church is the genuine Jesus or a counterfeit imposter?  The only way of ascertaining this is by examining LDS doctrine as it relates to Jesus Christ, they profess.  In this seventh teaching part, careful examination shall be given to see if the Mormon Jesus is the biblical Jesus.   Download teaching notes (pdf) https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/bethesdashalom/7_The_Doctrine_of_Christ.pdf
