We are back with a fun and revealing discussion with author Jim Beard! Jim shares his entry into the Planet of the Apes universe as a child which explains a lot about his involvement in the upcoming Apes role playing game. This RPG has been a long time coming and we get into the nitty-gritty and thoughts on the release. Whether you're a gamer or not, you will be super-pumped and ready to immerse yourself into the Forbidden Zone. Now is your chance to be the character you always wanted to see in the Apes universe. Of course right after the show was recorded and edited, the RPG was updated with the Solo Mode Unlocked feature. To read more about the update, here is the Kickstarter link. As the author of “Silenced” and “A Question of Simian Survival—An Afterword” from Planet of the Apes: Tales From the Forbidden Zone, Jim reveals behind the scenes stories on the making of this anthology. We also get to the bottom of why there has not been a follow-up. Also in this episode, we chat about Neca's new line of Trick or Treater figures including the Gorilla Soldier. We read some feedback about the Apes TV series anniversary from Max Cervantes, Tom Dabb, Andrew Arnell. Now, Go Ape! Hello to all you Chimps, gorillas, orangutans, Underdwellers, and even you damn dirty Humanoids! In this episode of Talking Apes, Richard is joined by Max Cervantes and Kevin Toft of The Max EFX podcast. Talking Apes continues the series of episodes where they break down and give commentary on unproduced live-action Planet of the Apes TV scripts. In the last episodes, Richard and Mark Oguschewitz reviewed two of Rod Serling’s unproduced scripts, ‘Episode I’ and ‘Episode II.’ Now Richard, Max and Kevin cover the third unproduced script, ‘A Fallen God’, written by Anthony Lawrence who co-wrote the Apes TV episode, 'The Deception.’ ‘A Fallen God,’ script - March 2, 1973 (Three months before the release of ‘Battle for the Planet of the Apes’) Script link to follow along ‘A Fallen God’ Story Overview Galen inadvertently sells Alan and Kovack to a local farmer after he is put on the spot as to who they were. On the farm, Alan and Kovack sees the patriarch, Telemon, and his family worshipping an object which turns out to be a radio transmitter. Alan and Kovack must find a way to get to it since that might be a way to communicate to other humans. But, a human-fearing busy-body preacher named Syrinx is catching wind of these smart humans and must put an end to these destructive animals who will once again destroy the planet. This episode of Talking Apes is dedicated to the bright center of the Apes fan community, Angela Rushmere, who has passed away. We, along with the many Ape fans, had numerous heartfelt comments that will be read on the show. Then in this episode we will be breaking down the 2nd unproduced Rod Serling script for the live-action Planet of the Apes TV series, Titled Episode 2. If you thought we argued last time, this will take us to UrkoTastic levels! STORY SUMMARY: Ursus and his Security Force, which includes his 15 year old son, Zonda, head out to search for Alan, Kovack and Galen and before long they find them. The renegades take off and in the heat of the chase, Alan knocks Zonda unconscious. Suddenly Alan, Kovack and Galen are aided by unseen assailants and the ape soldiers are forced to retreat. These new “friends,” who are well cultured and live underground, are curious about Alan and Kovack who have befriended an animal, Galen. They want Galen, and Zonda who was brought with them, put to death until Alan demands they are put on trial to prove they are not as barbaric as the apes. Also with this episode, Mark says his farewell due to a heavy workload and career opportunities. Since Mark is a HUGE Muppet fan we have a special segment where we find Planet of the Apes and Muppet crossovers. You probably didn’t think there were any, huh? And Dr. Zaius has been putting in his two cents about the global pandemic as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And Dana Gould’s YouTube channel. (Not sure why he chose Dana Gould?) We also learn what delicious snacks Zaius enjoys. Please follow along with us. You can find the remaining three scripts at: http://potatv.kassidyrae.com/(look at the sidebar on left and go to ‘scripts and storyboards’ with the gorilla soldier icon) There were 8 stories written to be produced for the series. One of film's great franchises crash landed on the small screen in 1974, giving us THE PLANET of the APES, The Television Series. Roddy McDowall, Ron Harper, and James Naughton are our trio of heroes, fugitives in a future world where apes rule men. We explore the Pilot as well as episode #12, The Cure, a story about contagion. At this time of worldwide concern over the virus COVID-19, this episode goes out with warm wishes for health and safety.
Talking Apes would like to dedicate this episode to a big Ape fan Vincent Blosse who passed away on 9/17/2019. Go Ape Vincent! On this episode of Talking Apes we are very excited to speak with creative consultant, Jeff Bond, who also wrote the liner notes for the new, ‘Planet of the Apes Original Film Series 5 CD Soundtrack Collection,’ from La-La Land Records. This set includes remastered scores from all 5 original films, some original soundtrack releases, and many bonus track additions! La-La Land Records saved this incredible set for their 500 release! We speak with Jeff about his Planet of the Apes fandom, his involvement with La-la Land Records going back to the Apes TV series soundtrack, and the extensive research that went into getting this collection produced. Then in our next episode coming soon, we will breakdown and review each of the soundtracks included in this collection. And, what would a Roddy McDowall/Adam West odd couple buddy cop TV series be like? Please support La-La land records in keeping classic Planet of the Apes fandom alive by purchasing this new collection! This is a must-have for any Planet of the Apes fan! https://lalalandrecords.com/planet-of-the-apes-original-film-series-soundtrack-collection-limited-edition-5-cd-box-set/ Now Go Ape!!!! Jack and Geoff are joined by noted Apes author Andrew EC Gaska for a dip into a River of Flames! In their discussion of this animated Apes TV episode, the three ponder the mystery of Urko's orange uniform, the great WEAPONS/SCIENCE debate, and the greatness that inevitably ensues when you combine apes and lava. They also get into Star Trek's penchant for recycling, and theatrically-released 007-parodying Flintstones movies that nobody has ever heard of. Grab your laser cutter and dive in!
Jack and Geoff send off the Apes TV series with aplomb in this thrilling retrospective! Before bidding Pete, Alan and Galen adieu, the two take a look at three TV-centric stories from short story anthology Tales From the Forbidden Zone: Blood Brothers, Who Is This Man? What Sort of Devil Is He? and Message in A Bottle. Will these tales provide the closure that the abruptly-cancelled series could not? Listen and find out! Also: our hosts share their final thoughts on the series as a whole, choose their favorite episodes, and generally gush about the sheer awesomeness of Pete Burke.
For The Liberator, the penultimate episode of the live action Apes TV show, hosts Geoff and Jack are joined by Jack's Reopening the Wormhole cohosts Sam Stovold and Kevin Young! To celebrate this timeless tale of slavery, oppression, chemical warfare, genocide and Pete's zingers, the boys talk turkey about how to kill turkeys (just in time for Thanksgiving!), the horrors of “night vision”, jokes that thankfully don't fall flat in the wake of the midterm elections, Metal Gear Solid, whether our astronauts had a chance to see Star Wars or not, the magic of Galen blowing out a candle, and the different relationship between continuity and fandom in the 70s and today. Not to mention the controversy surrounding this unaired episode and the thematic richness within, brought to us by Brun, Master of Borak, as compelling a villain as the Apes show has given us. Give it a listen, it's a real gas!
Talking Apes is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original Planet of the Apes film by releasing this special episode on the same release date of February 8! Actor Bobby Porter steps into the Apes studio/living room to talk with us about his career including his big scene as Cornelius in Battle for the Planet of the Apes where he comes face-to-face with gorilla general, Aldo. He also goes behind-the-scenes working on the live-action Apes TV series as two characters, Arno (Escape from Tomorrow) and Remus (The Good Seeds). Then finally we get to the bottom of the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin debate! Who played that gorilla child in Apes? This may be the answer we’ve been looking for...or is it? We also share ways of celebrating the yYear of the Ape! USC Visions and Voices in Los Angeles is presenting all 5 original Ape films starting with the Planet of the Apes on Feb. 9 which will also feature a legacy panel full of writers, directors, make-up artists and actors from the original and current Ape films. The Damn Dirty Geeks resume our delightful discussion with actor/stuntman Bobby Porter, talking more about his work in BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, two characters in the APES TV series, and many more films and shows across his continuing career. Bobby reveals two very fun stories about his unplanned public appearances in his APES character makeup created hilarious results, including a live stage play "crossover" with BATTLE and Shakespeare. We also preview the upcoming documentary MAKING APES: THE ARTISTS WHO CHANGED FILM, starring makeup effects artist Tom Burman, actors Bobby Porter and Lou Wagner, and directed by William Conlin. Listen along and you'll join us in eager anticipation for the documentary's release in 2018, just in time for PLANET OF THE APES' 50th Anniversary! Happy Holidays Ape Fans! Welcome back to our new Talking Apes TV spin-off! For those of you who are just finding us let me catch you up: Talking Apes TV just recapped and broke down each episode of the live action and animated POTA TV series. But now since there are no more TV shows to argue over, we are branching off to talk with authors, actors and those in the Ape fan community. In this episode we have a great discussion with E.C. Gaska, author of the short story ‘The Unknown Ape’ from ‘Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone’. He is also the author of the graphic novel, ‘Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes’. E.C. was currently tasked by Fox to straighten out the official Apes timelines for a more cohesive universe that contains many alternate “lanes”. If you’ve read ‘The Unknown Ape’, you’ll agree that FOX chose the right man! We also read some emails from the Apes listeners who help us choose a name for this spin-off show since we are no longer just talking about the Apes TV series. And listener Mark De Vattimo sends us a holiday gift with an Apes inspired song, ‘Pianetta Della Schimmie’ from his band, Psychonaut! And always remember, Apes Together Strong! Now Go Ape! Hey Hey Ape fans! Welcome to the Return to the Planet of the Apes series wrap-up debriefing show. Join Richard and Mark as they give their favorite and least favorite episodes, guilty pleasures and most controversial moments between Mark and Richard as they argue over ice mountains, pigs, vampires and puddle sizes! This episode also covers recent speculations over the Gary Dubin/Felix Silla debate and how Battle for the Planet of the Apes plays into all this. We also review the short story, ‘The Unknown Ape’ - by Andrew EC Gaska, from Planet of the Apes: Tales from the Forbidden Zone. WIthout giving anything away, this story features characters from both the Apes TV series and the films! Great story that answers lots of timeline questions. We couldn’t leave off without our thoughts about War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third film in the new Apes theatrical films. Judging by the box office number lots of Ape fans have seen the film. Just in case you hadn’t, we keep it as spoiler-free as possible. With that, Talking Apes TV will be going on hiatus. We covered everything we could when it came to Apes on TV. But we will be back as we’re sure there are more classic Ape stories to cover. And we will be leaving our Facebook page up to stay in touch. We want to thank all you Apes fans for listening and sharing your feedback with each episode. We also want to thank Angela Rushmere for taking care of our Facebook page, Rob Dehlinger for composing our theme song as well as the specialized jingles used in the show and Sarah Woloski for creating the artwork and posting the shows for you to hear. Hey Hey Apes! We teased at the end of our last episode that we were going to review the episode, 'Screaming Winds' from the Return to the POTA series but we’re going to take our customary mid-series break to talk with some friends old and new. We are very excited to have become fast friends with another simian podcast. Not apes, chimpanzees or orangutans, but Monkees! On our last episode we learned of the many connections between the Planet of the Apes TV series and The Monkees TV series, and we learned this from Zilch: A Monkees Podcast. Creator and host, Ken Mills, will be joining us to talk childhood Ape stories, his passion for The Monkees and his KISS and Cheap Trick podcasts. What's an Ape connection without a new jingle? We have 2 great new Monkees/Apes jingles written by podcast composer Rob Dehlinger. If you thought 'Yabba Dabba Urko' was catchy ring-tone wait until you hear these! To hear about Ape fandom past and present from the other side of the world, we talk with Adam O'Brien. You may know Adam from the Jogcast Radio Network where he discusses all kinds of fandoms, now he brings his passion to Talking Apes TV. We give you a very rare clip from the 1974 Macy's Thanksgiving parade (thanks to Angela Rushmere) that featured Planet of the Apes. This is something you've got to hear to believe, and not in a good way. Now go Ape!

Happy Holidays Ape Fans! Welcome to the holiday episode of Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an in-depth look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. This was also the year that kids were asking Santa for the newest toys and games like Twister, Connect 4, and, GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip. Join Richard and Mark as they say their goodbye to TV's Dr. Zaius, Booth Colman, in our opinion the best of the Zaius'. In this episode, "The Surgeon", which aired 10/25/1974, Alan is shot by a gorilla patrol. Galen and Pete take him to a medical center where we meet Dr. Kyra (Played by Jacqueline Scott who portrayed Zantes in the "Good Seeds"), someone special from Galen's past. Hey Hey Ape fans! In this episode of Talking Apes TV, we look at "Tomorrow's Tide". Remember this one? When Pete and Alan are captured in a fishing village that employs human slave labor, they must prove their worth as fishermen or be sacrificed to the gods of the sea - the sharks. Every other week we are finding random connections between Star Wars and Planet Of The Apes. In our new segment, The Star Wars Connection, we tell you what we found this week. Thanks to Rob Dehlinger for writing a great segment theme. (Any guesses as to what the music was influenced by?) We also reveal a new winner of the Planet Of The Apes TV Series DVD Box Set. Is it you? Unfortunately we don't see General Urko in this episode so we don't know if his helmet is on or off his head. As always, thank you Apes for listening. #Hurtonsanidiot We love when you tweet at us during the show: @SkywalkingPod with hashtag #TalkingApesTV. And we love your feedback! Welcome to the first episode of our new spin-off miniseries "Talking Apes TV" - where we take a look at the unsung Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974. The 40th anniversary of the TV show demands that we do this! But I am not alone. Hosting alongside with me is not my beautiful wife JediTink Sarah, but the Skywalking Through Neverland creative consultant, Mark Oguschewitz. In our intro episode we give you a refresher of the films and the reasons why the Planet Of The Apes series is so important and has held up over the decades! One word - subtext. What are the Apes movies really about? Each film represents a sign of the time, and the issues the world was dealing with during the years 1968-1973. And what episode is complete without including the disco mega-hit - Apes Shuffle!
