Join us for an inspiring conversation that encourages all creators to persevere through the negatives, to keep capturing those unique moments, and to let nothing dampen your creative spirit. “Rogue Planet” 20th-anniversary reflections. A camping trip turns mysterious—and potentially deadly—when giant snails get into Captain Archer's head. Actually, they enter through telepathy, not the ear canal, and they're being hunted by an alien race who visits this dark, rogue planet from time to time for sport. Hunting these snails, which they call wraiths, is a challenge for them. Archer and the crew of the Enterprise also face a challenge as they attempt to unravel the mystery of the beautiful woman in a blue dress with apple blossoms in her hair. In this installment, we explore “Rogue Planet” and ask just what the snail is going on in this story that feels like it could belong to any Star Trek series. We discuss the evolving character of Malcolm Reed, Archer's desire to help the aliens who are being hunted, similarities to DS9's Changelings, authorial intent, and more. In this episode we finish our series on the Planet of the Apes unproduced TV script breakdowns with “Hostage.” But this time we bring in a full cast! Story Synopsis Galen, Virdron, and Kovack stumble upon the meeting place for the UFF - United Freedom Force - which is an outlawed civil rights group composed of humans and apes who wish to overthrow the Simian government and replace it with a more tolerant system. On our big 500th episode we decided to go back in time with the 1st draft script of The Last Action Hero. on one of our Unproduced Scripts segments. Unproduced as in, the version before Arnold Schwarzenegger was even attached. This script came out in 1991 by Zak Pakk and Adam Leff also before Shane Black came in to put his groove on the storyline. Now we love the Arnie 1993 take we got best but this original draft is a very interesting, alternative take on the whole concept. Which to me, Last Action Hero has the best concept of any story out there. I mean, who would not want to go into their favorite movie, tv show, cartoon, video game, and so on now? This script keeps the core concept of Danny getting sucked into an action flick but beyond that it starts going in different paths, with alternate type characters, locations, and leading into a completely different 3rd act where the story goes almost twilight zone like. Plus there's material in here that would be tough for any studio to get behind and not feel a responsibility problem in the near future. Playing out almost like it was a PG-13 Roger Corman or Tromaville film. Very interesting stuff here. So come on by and join us for the good times as we go through the entire script. Relive a classic in a different stroke. Last Action Hero was a action flick way ahead of it's time, easily lost over by Jurassic Park at the time but finding it's audience in the Danny aged target demographic. And funny enough, nowadays you see knock offs of this style. Other great flicks like Forbidden Kingdom, Ready Player One and even Tropic Thunder. And LAH is never a bad concept to knock off now too. Bill and Ted's Friggin' Badass Voyage continues as they begin to collect historical figures in earnest... Adding Eric the Red, Cleopatra and Calamity Jane to their roster...There's also a bit of a time kerfluffle at the Circle K, where a startling (and kinda dumb) fact about reality is revealed!Like this podcast? In this episode of Make Every Death Count, Nic and Riley go over the unproduced Nightmare on Elm Street prequel that the late John Saxon wrote a treatment for back in 1987! Bill and Ted will face the music soon, but in 2007 they almost faced the threat of a reboot! Why the studio felt hat a new generation wanted a Keanu-free Bill & Ted reboot is anyone’s guess, but if you’re curious what was being considered back then, we have you covered! As much as a reboot of the property was a poor idea, this is a surprisingly smooth read! We don’t agree with everything these writers chose to do, but its a fun read that may-well have been a fun movie if given the chance! After the slog that was “The Star Wars,” this light fare goes down really well and we ended up reading about 30 pages in a single episode, as opposed to only about 20 for our average script! Give it a listen, we think you’ll like it!Like this podcast? Hate it? Either way, give us a review on your platform of choice! It’s finally the end of The Star Wars! Have you ever gone to write “Happy Birthday” or something as one line, and you start out with real big letters and you’re feeling good about yourself, and then you get toward the end and realize that you need a lot more room, so the last few letters are small and bunched up? Yeah, that’s this script. Lucas decided that in the last 20 minutes, he would set up an entirely new threat, move all the plot lines in a whole new direction to address that threat, build up a huge finale, and then wrap everything up in literally half a page. This script is bad, even for a first-time screenwriter. But keep in mind, George Lucas had already made two feature films by this point!! Anyway, we had to suffer through this, so now you do, too.Like this podcast? Hate it? Either way, give us a review on your platform of choice! There is some really unfamiliar stuff happening, but with familiar names! Like giant, slimy (but also hairy) creatures called JAWAS! Also, BERU turns up on YAVIN, but she’s some weird lady that lives in a futuristic tree hut. There are also WOOKIES, but they’re not quite the same, either. But the spider-dog is exactly like you remember it. Oh, wait, there’s no spider dog in Star Wars, that would be insane. This is the penultimate (we hope) chapter of The Star Wars. Join us as we move inexorably toward what we hope is some sort of conclusion. Like this podcast? Hate it? Either way, give us a review on your platform of choice! Strangely enough, with part six we kind of start understand what’s happening in this script! We’re not given new information or anything… It just sort of brute-forced itself in and we were able to see the overall story through the sea of pointless one-line characters that have been distracting us all along. This episode is mostly a space dogfight, the likes of which Star Wars has come to be known for, but the story doesn’t really move forward all that much and we’re left wondering… are they going to give us a liquid brain payoff before this script is done??And if you think we’re focusing a little too much on the liquid brain subplot, we can only ask: WHY AREN’T YOU??Like this podcast? As we head into the second half of the script, our heroes are still trying to escape Townowi with the royal children, droids and… uh, liquified scientist brains. They go to a familiar-to-us cantina where they meet up with someone who is going to help them get off-planet: Han Solo! That’s right, we finally get an appearance by everyone’s favorite… green monster… with gills?Okay, so things are a little different! But we get some really familiar stuff in the cantina, so we’re not TOTALLY lost at sea this time around!Like this podcast? Hate it? Either way, give us a review on your platform of choice! This episode of Talking Apes is dedicated to the bright center of the Apes fan community, Angela Rushmere, who has passed away. We, along with the many Ape fans, had numerous heartfelt comments that will be read on the show. Then in this episode we will be breaking down the 2nd unproduced Rod Serling script for the live-action Planet of the Apes TV series, Titled Episode 2. If you thought we argued last time, this will take us to UrkoTastic levels! STORY SUMMARY: Ursus and his Security Force, which includes his 15 year old son, Zonda, head out to search for Alan, Kovack and Galen and before long they find them. The renegades take off and in the heat of the chase, Alan knocks Zonda unconscious. Suddenly Alan, Kovack and Galen are aided by unseen assailants and the ape soldiers are forced to retreat. These new “friends,” who are well cultured and live underground, are curious about Alan and Kovack who have befriended an animal, Galen. They want Galen, and Zonda who was brought with them, put to death until Alan demands they are put on trial to prove they are not as barbaric as the apes. Also with this episode, Mark says his farewell due to a heavy workload and career opportunities. Since Mark is a HUGE Muppet fan we have a special segment where we find Planet of the Apes and Muppet crossovers. You probably didn’t think there were any, huh? And Dr. Zaius has been putting in his two cents about the global pandemic as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And Dana Gould’s YouTube channel. (Not sure why he chose Dana Gould?) We also learn what delicious snacks Zaius enjoys. Please follow along with us. You can find the remaining three scripts at: http://potatv.kassidyrae.com/(look at the sidebar on left and go to ‘scripts and storyboards’ with the gorilla soldier icon) There were 8 stories written to be produced for the series. Only 4 are in script form and the remaining stories are just in synopsis form and can be found in Simian Scrolls issue 12: https://pota.goatley.com/scrolls/simianscrolls_12.pdf Contact Us Email: Apestv@SkywalkingThroughNeverland.com Tweet: @Skywalkingpod Facebook: Talking Apes TV Subscribe on iTunes| Stitcher| YouTube
