If someone asked you who the artist was that originally conceived the iconic look of Star Wars vehicles like the TIE Fighter, The X-Wing, and The Death Star, you might think of famous names like Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston. But before those legends were enlisted to work on STAR WARS, George Lucas first worked with Colin Cantwell. Colin's partner Sierra Dall joins us “In the Cantina” to discuss Colin's life, his artwork and she sets the record straight about his contributions to STAR WARS. We check out interview highlights featuring Tony Gilroy and some of the cast of ANDOR as they discuss the upcoming second season. Plus, listener feedback sends us down-the-rabbit-hole as we try to define what a “Bokken Jedi” really is. We break down issue 51: Resurrection of Evil from June 1981! There is a new super weapon being constructed called the Tarkin. Our heroes are sent to bring down this technological terror, and at the same time there is a plot within the Empire to kill Darth Vader!   In the past, Marvel has tied-in Kenner action figures and playsets. Is that what they are doing here with the Scout Walker vehicle? Or was it because they wanted to feature the cool 2-legged walker seen in The Empire Strikes Back for 2 seconds.   Today in Star Wars History   Disney+ streams the episode, “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” from The Book of Boba Fett which Guest stars Danny Trejo as the Rancor Keeper. (Does Danny Trejo make an appearance in this episode's Marvel comic?)   In “The Streets of Mos Espa” the Hutt Twins come to Boba Fett's palace and offer their apologies for sending Black Krrsantan to kill him.   This Book of Boba Fett  episode also features the BEST Behind the scenes Easter Egg ever! During the speeder chase where the mods were pursuing the Mayor's majordomo, one of the mods crashes through a Ralph McQuarrie painting of Jabba's court from Return of the Jedi.     #51 “RESURRECTION OF EVIL"   Release Date: June 16, 1981 Writer: David Michelinie Artwork: Walt Simonson, Tom Palmer Cover Art:  Walt Simonson   General Rieekan receives word from Rebel spies that the Galactic Empire is constructing a new superweapon known as the Tarkin. Realizing the danger the new weapon poses, Rieekan sends for Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Lando C and the droids. The Rebel heroes are sent to infiltrate the Tarkin, however Darth Vader observes as they arrive and sets events in motion to capture his long sought after adversary, Luke Skywalker. But little does the Dark Lord know that some of his own men are secretly plotting against him due to his vicious punishments imposed against their fellow Imperial officers.   We take our Facebook Group Comments on the cover into account as we analyze this issue. Galoob was a small toy company based in San Francisco that developed and sold several toy lines. In the early 90s, they were able to acquire a license to incorporate Star Wars vehicles in one of their most successful lines, MicroMachines. Jim Fong worked his way up to the roll of design director, and oversaw the development of Star Wars MicroMachines and the Action Fleet line. During this discussion Jim shares how he got the job at Galoob, the first time he saw Star Wars (it was early), how he became friends with Ralph McQuarrie, the Easter eggs he was able to hide in the toy line, visiting Skywalker Ranch, how MicroMachines were made, and shares some behind the scenes photos (watch those on YouTube!). Jim also shares his attempt to incorporate bathrooms in Action Fleet vehicles and also shares what might have been if Galoob wasn't bought by Hasbro. All the while, Jason is geeking out! Download and listen this very special episode! Jim would like to add: ”I wish to thank the whole Galoob Team that made it such a great place to work. Without them, it would not have been as special as it was, and I thank the Galco team in Hong Kong for making our vision happen, and putting up with our constant changes. The company is gone but we will live forever in molded plastic!” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/smugglersgalaxy/message

[School of Movies 2024] He's responsible for some of the most adored and industry-changing films of all time, and for some of the biggest cases of fan backlash ever recorded. It's maybe a little harder to remember now, after year upon year of Disney's Star Wars being declared the worst thing that has ever been put to screen, but a few years earlier, similar guys were saying similar things about the man that many fans wish had never sold to America's Mousy Spirit of Capitalism. What we have for you here is a focused collection of monologues drawn from commentaries across all six of the movies he was directly in charge of, bringing you from Star Wars in 1977 all the way to Revenge of the Sith in 2005. The cumulative effect of listening to George say one thing and then seem to contradict himself down the line, regarding what was planned and when gives way to the portrait of a frustrated storyteller hoping to be understood. These moments are interspersed with monologues from his production teams, including Empire Strikes Back director, his mentor Irvin Kirshner, Empire and Jedi writer Lawrence Kasdan, FX master craftsman Dennis Muren, animation director Rob Coleman, producer Rick McCallum, concept artist Ralph McQuarrie and the irreplaceable Carrie Fisher.

The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 2 is out, so here's my breakdown and easter eggs episode about all the moments you might have missed. The Mandalorian sets to find other Mandalorians to reunite The Child with its kind, and after Season 2 Episode 1 where Boba Fett watched him leave the Krayt Dragon scene with Cobb Vanth and the Tuskens, we all hoped to see Boba more in this episode. While we didn't, I feel we will see Boba Fett much later on in the season as he looms over each episode in the back of our minds. Mando set on an adventure that led him to breaking the Razor Crest in the process of finding new Mandalorians, coming into contact with some massive White Spiders which are taken from Ralph McQuarrie's original drawings from The Empire Strikes Back. In the end, The New Republic (Dave Filoni) saved the day, and he got off the ice planet to continue on with his mission. The episode added to Din and Baby Yoda's relationship, further connecting their strong bond of Father and Son. Other than that, as far as the plot line goes, it didn't do all that much, which leaves me excited for next week where the mission continues back on track. Learn more about your ad choices.
