This is the fifth and final installment of a miniseries about amphibian conservation and determination called For the Frogs. In each episode, we will meet to one native amphibian that can be found in California's national forests. These creatures are important to ecological health and can deepen our connections with public lands, but they are also in a state of decline. Fortunately, a village of specialists are devoted to conserving these species. The stories of their resolute conservation efforts, pursued through obstacles and setbacks, provides portraits of determination that we can pocket and apply to our own personal experiences with adversity. This time, we meet the mountain yellow-legged frog and tag along during a reintroduction of this endangered species to the Angeles National Forest. Rossifari Podcast - Zoos, Aquariums, and Animal Conservation
Today, the Safari is getting settled down in Los Angeles, CA, where I spent a month gigging and exploring cool zoos, aquariums, and conservation organizations! And of all the amazing experiences I had, I don't think one surprised me more than this one, because I didn't even know it existed! Did you know that right in Los Angeles, there is a wild population of juvenile green sea turtles?!?!?!?! Now you do! Today, you'll get to hear all about said population, and experience them with me as I see them for the first time (spoiler alert: I get excited). You'll also get some really great conservation messaging in general from Cassandra Davis! And, as a bonus, she'll be back next week as we actually go to the Aquarium together! EPISODE LINKS: www.aquariumofpacific.org @aquariumpacificROSSIFARI LINKS: www.rossifari.com @rossifari on Insta, Twitter, and Facebook @rossifaripod on TikTokÂ

Welcome to part 3! Dr. Jerry Schubel, sits down with Greg Stone to talk about the significance of aquariums and how they are on the frontlines in dealing with the effects of climate change. Since his arrival at AOTP, his mandate is to transform the institution into something more than a fish tank. He feels there is a responsibility to lead the environmental movement because of the popularity and trust the public has with aquariums. More people go to aquariums and zoos than all sporting events combined. By creating partnerships with top scientists and the creative abilities of the aquarium staff, AOTP offers us an insight into climate change impact. The importance of engaging with marine life and its diversity is an important step in connecting us with the reality of species extinction through habitat destruction. Jerry and the aquarium's mission of informing and engaging the public on the effects of climate change exemplify the significance of the role of the Aquarium of the Pacific in today's world. Please subscribe and click the notification bell for more conversations on preserving our ocean. Greg Stone has been an advocate for ocean conservation, sustainable industry, and marine research for decades. Spreading these ideas requires conversation and collaboration if we want environmental sustainability. He currently serves as Chief Ocean Scientist and board director for DeepGreen Resources. He is responsible for finding sustainable ways to extract minerals from the seafloor of the Clipperton Fracture Zone that will aid in global transition to renewable energy.

On November 13-14, 2017, the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Honda Marine Science Foundation convened and facilitated a forum on “Sato-umi in the Anthropocene.” The forum was designed to explore a number of approaches to “integrated” coastal management, in particular those that cross the land-sea boundary, some of which have been practiced for thousands of years, to see if lessons could be extracted to elevate awareness and stimulate action to reduce vulnerability in the “new normal” of rising sea level. Join us as we talk with forum speakers, Drs. Jerry Schubel, Mike Orbach, and Jim Fawcett, to learn ways humans can manage our coastal areas more sustainably.

The Aquarium of the Pacific is a leader in making sure the three billion people that derive their protein from the sea do so sustainably, including the harvesting of kelp and jellies. They arealso leading important citizen-based research on sea turtleconservation.
Located in Long Bay off the coast of Los Angeles California, the Aquarium of the Pacific is ideally located to conduct research on whale behaviour. Their research has determined that ships entering and departing from one of the U.S.'s busiest ports pass directly through a preferred feeding area for whales. Moby Dick is no match for these colossal conveyors of the sea which are arriving at port with whales impaled on their bows.

In his Jan. 2015 State of the City address, Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia announced that he wanted to make Long Beach a model of a climate resilient city. He asked the Aquarium of the Pacific to take a lead in assessing the primary threats that climate change poses to the city, to identify the most vulnerable neighborhoods and segments of the population, and to provide a preliminary assessment of options to reduce those vulnerabilities. The Aquarium has released a report detailing assessments of the five main threats of climate change to our community (drought, extreme heat, sea level rise and coastal flooding, deteriorating air quality, and public health and social vulnerability), and providing recommendations on actions and steps the city can take to make Long Beach a model of a climate resilient city. Given the City's size, population demographics, infrastructure, geographical location, and regional economic impact, it has the opportunity to become a model of resiliency.
