Send us Fan MailThis week, Andrea and Ryan revisit The Brave Little Toaster, the beloved children's film that somehow includes existential dread, abandonment issues, appliance death, and a musical number about getting crushed in a junkyard. They break down the movie's most traumatizing moments, discuss why so many millennials are still emotionally scarred by it, and Ryan investigates the surprisingly complicated question: Is The Brave Little Toaster actually a Disney movie?Follow us @grownasskidsclub

This week we're joined by Hyperion (@therafiaiqbal) from Amazon's hit series @theboystv. The Boys is a dark, action-packed series that flips the superhero world upside down — exposing what happens when the people meant to save the world abuse their power. Chaos, corruption, and some of the wildest moments on TV. For those who know me personally, The Boys is genuinely one of my favourite shows of all time. This interview is really special to me because it's something I never thought would even be possible. Truly grateful for opportunities like this. Thank you, @therafiaiqbal for joining the pod!Stream the final season now only on Amazon Prime.
Dan Simmons (1948-2026), Huge and World Fantasy Award winning novelist and short story writer, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky and Richard A. Lupoff, recorded September 22, 1991 while on tour for the novel “Summer of Night.” Dan Simmons, who died February 21, 2026 at the age of 77, was the author of the now classic science fiction novels “Hyperion” and “Fall of Hyperion” along with horror novels “The Terror” and “Carrion Comfort,” never achieved the popularity of peers like Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but was a genre master in his own right. Winner and nominee for several genre literary awards, his page turning books bristled with originality. Despite several attempts, “Hyperion” never became a film or series, and its sequel books in the Endymion series are still in development. “The Terror” became season one of a series also titled “The Terror.” There would be a second interview in 1997 following the release of “Endymion Rising.” In his later career, Dan Simmons turned to mysteries as well as continuing his work in horror, fantasy and science fiction. His final novel, “Omega Canyon” was scheduled to be published in 2025 and then again in 2026 but has yet to see the light of day. His previous novel, “The Fifth Heart” was published in 2015. What happens when a community votes no…but the #AI datacenter construction starts anyway? That is not a hypothetical. It's what happened in Saline Township, Michigan, when a $16 billion OpenAI-Oracle data center was rejected by the local planning commission, rejected again by the township board, and broke ground weeks later anyway. The developer sued. The town settled. They had no real choice.Sharon Goldman has been covering the AI data center buildout for Fortune — not from boardrooms, but from township halls, planning commission meetings, and rural communities that had never imagined something like this landing in their midst. What she's found is a story that the technology press largely isn't telling: the buildout is a bottom-up crisis dressed up as a top-down triumph. The numbers tell part of it. Saline Township received $14 million in community benefits from a $16 billion project, against an annual budget of $1 million. In Richland Parish, Louisiana, the land where Meta's Hyperion facility now sits was once pitched for an auto plant that would have created two to three thousand permanent jobs. The data center is promising 500. The construction workers are mostly from out of state. And the justifying ideologies — the race with China, the national security imperative — has no finish line. This race has a vague one-upsmanship and a $700 billion spend with no clear end in sight. What Sharon sees coming, and what she thinks the press is missing, is the backlash that is quietly becoming a political force — showing up in recall elections, in governor's races, and in the kind of conspiratorial thinking that emerges when people have lost trust and no longer believe that democracy is working for them. You can read more of Sharon's reporting here: A Michigan farm town voted down plans for a giant OpenAI-Oracle data center. Weeks later, construction began | Fortune Meta's $27 billion AI data center is causing chaos in small town Louisiana | Fortune At the edges of the AI data center boom, rural America is up against Silicon Valley billions Huge AI data centers are turning local elections into fights over the future of energy Elon Musk is pushing to build data centers in space. But they won't solve AI's power problems anytime soon Big Tech will spend nearly $700 billion on AI this year. A Plutino, an object that shares Pluto's orbit but which is much smaller than Pluto, appears to have a very thin global atmosphere. We discuss the detection and how such a small body could hold onto even a thin atmosphere, as well as a new model that describes many of Saturn's peculiarities with a recent collision between its big moon Titan and a precursor to the sponge-y moon Hyperion. Join us for all this, space news, astronomy trivia, and much more.
Today, Saturn and its system of moons and rings look calm and peaceful. But things might have been much more chaotic in the fairly recent past. A collision between two moons might have destroyed one of them, changed the orbit of the other, and led to the birth of yet another moon and the planet’s rings. Researchers have been trying to explain some oddities in the Saturn system. The planet itself is tilted far more than it should be, for example. The biggest moon, Titan, follows a more lopsided orbit than expected. And the moon is moving away from Saturn by about four inches per year. A few years ago, a team proposed that Saturn once had another big moon, which the team called Chrysalis. Interactions between the moons might have kicked Chrysalis so close to Saturn that it was ripped apart, forming the rings. But this year, another team came up with a slightly different scenario. It, too, involves a second moon. It collided with Titan a few hundred million years ago, changing Titan’s orbit. Debris from the impact formed the present-day moon Hyperion. The activity caused two other moons to ram together as well. Both moons quickly re-formed, with the leftovers spreading out to form the rings as recently as 50 million years ago. This model explains many of the system’s oddities – bringing order to a chaotic arrangement. Look for Saturn near our moon at dawn tomorrow. The planet looks like a bright star, low above the horizon. Script by Damond Benningfield

Danielle continues on with her own Hyperion: the 2013 Korean drama I Hear Your Voice (너의 목소리가 들려). We dive right back in where we left off, and while Sam remembers what happened in the last episode, don't count on his recap making any sense. The murderous twins are back in action, but with the added twist of their defense attorney completely giving up any semblance of ethics and gunning for them to be locked up in prison. This causes Sam to lose his mind. Meanwhile, Joon Gook has started working for Hye Seong's mom because this dude cannot just let a revenge go and insists on trying to murder everyone in the most obvious ways. Soo ha, psychic boy wonder, doesn't have a lot to do but he seems to have given up high school to be a full-time sidekick to Hye Seong; which given her track record might be betting on the wrong horse. As the multiple storylines converge, Sam sees a glimmer of hope that we might get a break from the insanity, but if the haphazard retelling of eight different plot lines doesn't reel you in, surely Sam being apoplectic at the many miscarriages of justice might sway you.

John and Jim examine the third Trial of a Time Lord story featuring the Doctor's bold defense strategy: presenting evidence from his own future, complete with a new companion who somehow makes Perry instantly forgettable. The Gutsy Introduction: The hosts examine the unprecedented decision to introduce Mel (Bonnie Langford) not at the beginning of her travels but as if she's already been with the Doctor for ages. Discussion covers the instant chemistry between Colin Baker and Bonnie Langford, Mel's agency and enthusiasm as a breath of fresh air, and why this pairing works despite unconventional storytelling. Evidence From the Future?: Jim questions the trial's fundamental logic - why would Time Lords accept evidence that hasn't happened yet? The hosts debate whether showing the Doctor "gets better" in the future undermines the entire prosecution while simultaneously revealing he survives the trial. Discussion includes the questionable legal framework and the Valeyard's surprisingly weak objections. The Bonnie Langford Factor: Extensive background on why casting Bonnie Langford was considered both a coup and a joke. The hosts explore her reputation as "England's Shirley Temple" (not in a good way), comparisons to Justin Bieber or Tiffany suddenly joining Star Trek, and how Pip and Jane Baker deliberately wrote against audience expectations. Coverage includes the infamous scream count, the F-key requirement matching the theme music sting, and whether Mel's voice takes getting used to. Production Crisis Mode: John details the chaos behind the scenes - Eric Saward's resignation leaving no script editor credited, JNT forced to take over script development, the Starlog interview controversy, JNT's attempted resignation (initially accepted with the caveat he fire Colin Baker), and morale at all-time lows with no pickup news. The Space Liner Mystery: Discussion of the murder mystery setup aboard Hyperion 3, Honor Blackman's casting (playing someone in her 40s while in her 60s), the Love Boat-style passenger introductions, the Mogarians and their translator issues, and Commodore Travers recognizing the Sixth Doctor from an adventure viewers never saw. The Vervoid Problem: Both hosts agree the plant-based menace suffers from unfortunate design - looked fine in studio as tulips but became laughable on screen. Jim argues the human crimes prove more interesting than the creature threat. Discussion covers Pip Baker's research into plant hormones, the effective reveal scene in shadows, Professor Lasky's Thing from Another World-inspired death, and the wilting death sequence. Red Herrings and Subplots: Examination of dropped plot threads including the Demeter seeds going nowhere (despite the Doctor eating one), Ruth the plant-infested woman's wasted potential, the Mogarian hijacking subplot as acknowledged "sideshow," and whether these diversions work or waste time. The Chemistry Question: Both hosts marvel at how Baker and Langford perform as if they'd been together for years. Coverage includes Mel not being told to "stay here," treatment as the Doctor's equal rather than damsel, her computer programmer background never materializing, and Pease Pottage references connecting to nursery rhymes. Design and Effects: Appreciation for the art deco lamp-inspired Hyperion 3 design (compared to Empire Strikes Back's Cloud City inspiration), the elaborate video game homage possibly recycled from "Nightmare Fair" development, black hole interpretation, and bodies stacked like cordwood pushing graphic boundaries. The Genocide Charge: The Valeyard's closing accusation transforms the trial as Article 7 of Gallifreyan Law makes no exceptions - destroying an entire species constitutes genocide regardless of necessity. The hosts question whether this charge sticks and what it means for the finale. Behind the Sofa Confusion: Colin, Bonnie, and Nicola on one couch with Matthew Waterhouse, Fraser Hines, and Mark Strickson on another - the three men initially think the plant-infested woman is Nicola Bryant and wonder "what happened to Peri." Coming Up Next: Patreon Exclusive (Monday): More Doctor Who music, Memory TARDIS spin with random First Five Doctors story recall, the three-part comic "Time Bomb," and news about recent collection release controversies and RTD decisions raising hackles. Main Feed Episode (Friday for Patreon, Following Saturday for All): The two-part finale "The Ultimate Foe" wraps up Colin Baker's era. Former Sprott CEO Kevin Bambrough on Hydrograph: Fractal Graphene, Nanotech's Breakout Moment Podcast hosts interview Kevin Bambrough, author and former Sprott CEO, about why he became a major shareholder in Hydrograph and why he believes graphene—specifically Hydrograph's turbo-stratic, fractal graphene aggregates—solves key industry problems like clumping and poor dispersion that plagued earlier graphite-derived approaches. Bambrough recounts his investing background and explains graphene's sought-after properties (strength, conductivity, EMF shielding) and why Hydrograph's purity and SP2 bonding matter for real-world applications. The panel discusses potential use cases across polymers, coatings, tires, construction materials, batteries, semiconductors, and military needs, plus Hydrograph's patent moat and licensing potential. They cover manufacturing via acetylene/oxygen combustion in a chamber, economics such as a stated $250,000/ton price with far lower required loadings, modular "Hyperion" scaling, work with dozens of companies, and catalysts like EPA approvals, a possible Nasdaq listing, and a Texas gas-plant partnership, while noting execution and IP/theft as key risks. 00:00 Meet Kevin Bambrough 00:32 From Computers to Markets 01:57 Sprott Years and Track Record 03:19 Discovering Hydrograph 05:36 Graphene Hype vs Reality 07:46 Why Graphene Matters 11:21 Hydrograph Fractal Advantage 16:06 Sci Fi Use Cases 20:47 AI Accelerates Innovation 23:26 Moat Patents and Monopoly 26:42 Is the Stock a Bubble 30:59 Flow State Deep Research 35:38 Graphene Types and Construction 40:08 How the Graphene Is Made 41:48 Detonation Cycle Basics 42:34 Fractal Graphene Formation 43:58 Pricing And Battery Value 45:57 Polymer Bottles And Low Loading 49:13 Unit Economics And Scaling 51:59 First Customers And Auto Wins 56:24 Texas Gas Plant Expansion 59:16 Risks Patents And Execution 01:08:51 Catalysts Nasdaq And Deals 01:16:00 Final Takeaways And Wrap
Yuval Boger interviews Bob Sorensen of Hyperion Research about the growing convergence of quantum computing and high-performance computing. They outline a problem-first adoption playbook for HPC centers: identify bottlenecks, benchmark classical options and costs, then evaluate quantum as an accelerator with clear ROI and procurement targets. Sorensen weighs cloud versus on‑prem tradeoffs, argues quantum hardware needs short lifecycles with upgrade paths, and explains why HPC managers mainly worry about seamless integration. They close with practical definitions of quantum advantage (speed, capability, and power), real-world case studies, and why error-correction-driven architecture is increasingly shaping modality decisions.
“How do I talk to my loved one?” It is the most frequent question the show receives. In this episode, host Rachel Star Withers (who lives with schizophrenia) and co-host Gabe Howard dive deep into the nuances of communication, moving away from reactionary "crisis mode" toward intentional, empathetic connection. They explore why validating emotions and feelings — rather than schizophrenia symptoms — is the key to building trust and how to ask for permission before broaching difficult topics. Later in the show, Gail Simmons, culinary expert and judge on Bravo's Top Chef, joins the conversation to share her personal story. Gail opens up about her brother's schizophrenia diagnosis and how her family used the universal language of food and the dinner table to maintain their bond during challenging years. Listeners will learn: how to acknowledge someone's fear without confirming their delusions why caregivers must prioritize their own mental health and boundaries to be effective supports lessons from Gail Simmons on using hobbies, like cooking or trail running, to bridge the gap when words aren't enough Whether you are a caregiver, a friend, or living with a diagnosis yourself, this episode offers a roadmap for turning difficult conversations into productive discussions through patience and perseverance. Special thanks to Cobenfy Connections for connecting us with Gail Simmons. Cobenfy is a sponsor of this podcast and we appreciate them for their partnership and support. Our guest, Gail Simmons, is a trained culinary expert, food writer, and dynamic television personality. Since the show's inception in 2006, she has lent her expertise as permanent judge, and now executive producer, on Bravo's Emmy- and James Beard Award-winning series “Top Chef.” Now entering its 23rd season, “Top Chef” is rated the #1 food show on cable television. From 2004 to 2019, Gail served as special projects director at FOOD & WINE. Gail's first cookbook, “Bringing It Home: Favorite Recipes from a Life of Adventurous Eating,” was released by Grand Central Publishing in October 2017. Her first book, a memoir titled “Talking With My Mouth Full,” was published by Hyperion in February 2012. Gail's third book, entitled “Guesting,” will be published in 2026. She is the co-founder of Bumble Pie Productions and lives in Brooklyn with her husband, Jeremy, and their two children. COBENFY Connections is an initiative from Bristol Myers Squibb in partnership with culinary expert, TV host, and author Gail Simmons. The initiative aims to shift the narrative around schizophrenia, one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized mental illnesses, through honest conversation. Sharing her family's experience and inviting others to do the same, Simmons emphasizes how connection and community can help people living with schizophrenia feel seen, supported, and hopeful, as well as the importance of finding the treatment that's right for them. Listeners can learn more by visiting www.connections.bms.com. Our host, Rachel Star Withers, (Link: www.rachelstarlive.com) is an entertainer, international speaker, video producer, and schizophrenic. She has appeared on MTV's Ridiculousness, TruTV, NBC's America's Got Talent, Marvel's Black Panther, TUBI's #shockfight, Goliath: Playing with Reality, and is the host of the HealthLine podcast “Inside Schizophrenia”. She grew up seeing monsters, hearing people in the walls, and having intense urges to hurt herself. Rachel creates videos documenting her schizophrenia, ways to manage, and letting others like her know they are not alone and can still live an amazing life. She has created a kid's mental health comic line, The Adventures of ____. This is a remake of one of our first episodes because the original sound was harsh and uneven when I started the podcast. For tonight's talk, I invite you to a long moment in the woods. We explore the origins of plants and how they evolved from microscopic algae to mosses, ferns, seed plants with or without flowers. I also discuss the life cycle of trees, their composition, and many often unnoticed aspects, such as their ability to exchange signals, connect by their roots, develop mutualistic relationships or adapt to different environments. We also review extraordinary trees: Hyperion, the tallest tree in the world, Methuselah, the oldest independent tree (both in California); the Arbol de Tule, the stouter known tree (Mexico), and extremely old clonal colonies like Old Tjikko in Sweden and Pando in Utah. This podcast is entirely scripted and recorded by real people, it includes no AI, and mid-roll ad breaks are turned off so that you can relax without interruption. #sleep #bedtimestory #asmr #sleepstory #nature #trees Welcome to Lights Out Library Join me for a sleepy adventure tonight. This was an opportunity to talk directly to the fan base about decisions, and give a glimpse of what is coming. One of the items was the reservation system at Disneyland. It is not going anywhere for the moment as it helps the resort better manage attendance patterns and staffing. However, the 11am park hopping restriction will be going away soon. Also, Monsters, Inc.: Mike and Sully to the Rescue is delaying closing until sometime next year. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Moving away from the news to the philosophy that Thomas brings to the resort. A visit to the resort has become expensive, and, at times, overly complex. His team is working on ways to simplify the experience, and make visiting less expensive, especially for young families. Ride reliability is also being addressed. Maintenance windows are expanding, work is being made on supply chains, and downtime is being examined and addressed. They calculated that 1.5 million more ride experiences happened because of these changes. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Cast members were also discussed at the sessions. About 60% of the current cast was hired after the 2020 closures. Training was shortened, Traditions, the training session for new cast, was also simplified and made partially virtual. Focus was on safety protocols and hiring quickly, and not as much on guest relations. Thomas is working to correct this and expanding training again. Leadership is going through retraining, identifying issues and clarifying expectations. This is resulting in the culture being rebuilt, but it will take time. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ Entertainment was also discussed. Thomas supports Fantasmic!, but did not commit to restoring Murphy. No further plans on the future of the Hyperion, Golden Horseshoe, Fantasyland Theatre, or any other entertainment was discussed. What could throw a wrench into all of this is Josh D'Amaro moving up to CEO, leaving the parks chair position vacant. Thomas might be a good candidate to fill that, which means Disneyland could be getting another leader soon. – https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ A new way to celebrate Disneyland and have some new collectable keepsakes is coming on February 26th. The Topps Disneyland 70th Anniversary Collection will feature attractions, characters, food, and more into collectable cards. A limited group of cards will only be available at Disneyland and online at DisneyStore.com. There are rare relic cards that have pieces of vintage Disneyland tickets, Disney Dollars, pieces of cast member costumes, and more. There are also Talent Autograph cards featuring autographs from voice talent, and other well-known faces and voices of attractions. There is a rare 1 of 1 card that can be redeemed for a Disneyland prize package. – https://disneyparksblog.com/products/new-topps-disneyland-70th-anniversary-trading-cards/ Using the Disneyland App to locate and purchase merchandise, and mobile order food is getting more features. Guests can now use the “find merchandise” feature to look for Lunar New Year items. The feature will show what locations have certain items in stock, without having to visit each location and look. There is also a test happening at the Golden Horseshoe where Stage Door Cafe is mobile order only, and the Golden Horseshoe bar inside is standby only. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/02/18/this-new-disneyland-app-feature-could-change-everything/#more-1107042 https://www.micechat.com/432196-disneyland-update-entertainment-gaps-construction-reveals-big-changes-ahead/ The old FastPass distribution area across from Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! has a new permit filed, giving some indication of what is happening there. The permit is asking for a “change of use” from a shade structure to an outdoor eating area with new joists and electrical. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/02/21/disneyland-officially-demolishes-fastpass-structure-and-were-still-crying/#more-1107900 SnackChat: Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival Foodie Guide – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-disney-california-adventure-food-and-wine-festival-foodie-guide-2026/ Discussion Topic: Epic Universe with theme park fan and Disney Cast Member Philander Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
