Tucked between the shimmering waters of the Caribbean Sea, the twin-island federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has long been a well-kept secret among discerning travelers. Just two miles apart, these islands offer an extraordinary blend of volcanic peaks, colonial history, pristine beaches, and an intimacy that larger Caribbean destinations simply cannot replicate. Yet for years, one critical ingredient was missing: a tour operator capable of transforming these raw ingredients into truly unforgettable luxury experiences. Enter Nevis Sun Tours — and its visionary founder, Greg Phillip.Today, Nevis Sun Tours is not just a tour company. It has earned recognition as a luxury travel enablement platform, been named the home of Azamara Cruises' best tour worldwide, and is rapidly emerging as the defining voice of luxury travel in the Eastern Caribbean. This is the story of how it happened. His idea was to launch donkey-guided tours, an authentic, one-of-a-kind experience that would give visitors a different way to explore the island. This early instinct — to find what is genuinely local, overlooked, and underutilized, and transform it into a compelling experience — would become the philosophical backbone of everything Nevis Sun Tours would build. The tour also engages unflinchingly with the history of slavery — a topic too often whitewashed in Caribbean tourism. "The way we handle that is in the most honest way possible that anyone can really connect with," Phillip said. The result is a deeply moving experience: one actor from the original Broadway cast of Hamilton reportedly stepped away from the group mid-tour to have a private emotional moment, not wanting others to see him overcome with feeling. The Alexander Hamilton Island Tour may be Nevis Sun Tours' flagship, but it sits within a rich portfolio of experiences that showcase the island's lesser-known treasures. This fan-favorite experience brings travelers to the farm of Ras Iroy, a local Rastafarian whom Phillip has known since childhood. Guests harvest their own ingredients, then cook traditional Ital cuisine — the plant-based culinary tradition of Rastafarianism, often called the original Caribbean veganism — on open fires in hand-made clay pots. One recent group spontaneously declared a "New York vs. Chicago cook-off," a reminder that authentic experiences invite authentic human connection.Nevis Sun Tours' ambitions extend beyond delivering great tours. In June, the company will host the inaugural Caribbean Luxury Travel Mastermind at the Four Seasons Nevis — an invitation-only event for serious luxury travel advisors. The event centers on Phillip's proprietary "Caribbean Luxury Travel Sales Framework," a methodology designed to help travel professionals more confidently sell and book high-end Caribbean vacations.Nevis Sun Tours' ascent from a startup built on tamed donkeys to an internationally recognized luxury travel enablement platform is a masterclass in purposeful tourism entrepreneurship. Its success is rooted not in marketing spin but in a genuine philosophy: find what is authentically, uniquely local, develop it with rigor and creativity, present it with world-class hospitality, and build trust with the travel professionals who move the world's most discerning travelers.More Caribbean Travel GuidesSupport the showTripCast360 --- It's all about travel, lifestyle and entertainment.Web: TripCast360.com.Twit: https://twitter.com/TripCast360FB: https://www.facebook.com/TripCast360Insta: https://www.instagram.com/tripcast360/

Nestled in a tiny fishing outport in Newfoundland, Fogo Island Inn has become a luxury stop for the well-traveled. But it is a lot more than that -- by design. Fogo's part of a social enterprise called Shorefast, and while its success has definitely created wealth for the local economy, its founders believe that the model of community-based entrepreneurship is highly exportable. Host Amanda Lang talks to Zita Cobb about how to build Canada's economy one community at a time.
Most conversations about AI implementation come from consultants selling solutions or vendors pitching tools. This one doesn't.Sean Seah is SVP of Strategy, Technology and Innovation at Langham Hospitality Group, where he's leading AI adoption across a global luxury hotel portfolio. With over two decades in digital transformation at Microsoft, HSBC, and Zuji, Sean brings a rare perspective as he's living inside the messy reality of making it actually work. What emerges from our conversation is a refreshingly practical playbook for AI implementation. Sean reveals why the "boring stuff" nobody discusses—data infrastructure, change management, measurement frameworks—determines whether AI delivers business value or not. He advocates starting small, proving value in weeks rather than years, and letting success create momentum for long term transformation. We explore how Sean balances short-term wins with long-term strategic vision, how he thinks about his AI strategy in a global context, and why luxury hospitality, with its complex blend of human service and operational efficiency offers surprisingly universal lessons for AI implementation across industries. In this episode:How Sean's approach to long term tech transformation includes the necessity that it must deliver short term value as well. Why one of Langham's first major AI investments is customer facing and how it's faringExamples of how they practically trained their AI agents and staff, andHow Sean's ensured Langhams isn't reliant on any one large language modelWhatever sector you're in, Sean's boots-on-the-ground experience offers a practical roadmap for leaders navigating the gap between AI potential and AI reality.Enjoy this episode! In a so-called k-shaped economy, higher earners head up on an upward angle, but lower earners, on the lower leg of the “k” drop behind. This bifurcation is also playing out in some corners of the travel industry as ultrahigh-net worth travelers spend to snap up the top level suites, but travelers with less resources are slower to book entry-level rooms. In this episode, host Rebecca Tobin talks with hotels editor Christina Jelski and Jon Makhmaltchi, the founder of J.Mak hospitality, about how hotel companies are physically configuring their properties to appeal to those at top of the k, the pitfalls of over-relying on one market segment and how hotels and advisors are working to attract entry-level and aspirational luxury travelers. I can tell you it was like sitting with a long, lost neighbor when sitting with Kelly E. Carter. And in fact, we were neighbors of sorts back in the day. It wasn't until I was searching for images to create the icons for this podcast did I realize I was in the presence of true maverick royalty. Besides being a New York Times best selling author, she has reported from the greatest sporting events of the world: the NBA FInals, Super Bowls, Grand Slams, Stanley Cup Finals and much more. And more intriguing, she was the woman reporter in the locker room! I was so intrigued and we could have spoken for hours because she is the Founder of the wine tourism group, Napa Valley Noir. sitting down with Kelly E. Carter in the studio for this episode of Wine Talks was like taking a stroll down memory lane while simultaneously hitching a ride on a train heading straight for the future of wine tourism. There's something about Kelly—her energy, her wit, and just her knack for storytelling—that gets you thinking about the wine industry in ways that feel both nostalgic and freshly invigorating. We kicked things off with some good old home turf banter—Kelly's Windsor Hills childhood (Ray Charles and Ike & Tina Turner for neighbors, no less) and my own roots in Inglewood. Instantly, there was this shared sense that, before wine stole our hearts, Southern California had given us some pretty unique perspectives on culture and community. And as Kelly pointed out, “you'll never know everything” about winemaking, which is honestly the very reason some of us keep swirling, sipping, and studying. I know I do. What genuinely impressed me was Kelly's trajectory. She was the first female to cover the Lakers—how many people do you meet who set out in fourth grade to be a sports journalist and actually make it happen? She wasn't just content to report on sports. She made her mark, switched lanes into entertainment, and then into luxury travel writing, which eventually led her to Florence and Positano. It's the kind of layered journey you don't hear about every day. You talk to some folks, they've been in wine their whole lives. With Kelly, it's travel, sports, culture—all converging in the glass. We got into the nitty-gritty of wine and travel writing and how AI could never replace the boots-on-the-ground experience. I had to laugh—when Kelly plugged Napa into chatbots, she got recommendations for wineries that are closed for renovations. "You have to know the latest," she said, reminding me that the best wine stories are always written with real shoe leather, not just code. Her insights into Napa Valley tourism were equally compelling. As the founder of Napa Valley Noir, Kelly's passion lies in creating experiences rich in narrative, not just pouring cabs for folks who made it big in tech and want a taste of the valley lifestyle. She's all about partnerships with wineries that have soul, stories, and a genuine connection to their craft—whether it's a historic vineyard run by women or an impromptu meeting with Thomas Keller that leaves guests starstruck. Frankly, I couldn't agree more. The stories make the bottle—and the memories. That's what keeps this business alive, even as the market shifts. Kelly also talked about the recent surge in African American visitors to Napa, thanks in part to celebrity influence (LeBron, Kobe, you name it), and her drive to ensure these visitors experience the full magic Napa has to offer, not just what's on the surface. She's honest—her intake forms ask straight-up about comfort level on bottle prices. She knows how to match guests with the right wineries, sometimes calling in a favor for an extra pour or a charcuterie board, because that's how relationships form and deepen in this business. There's a lesson in Kelly's methods: whether it's a group of corporate execs, first-timers, or veteran collectors, she makes sure the experience is tailored and memorable. Maybe it's the aftermath of her own battles—her candor about beating a rare cancer got me thinking about perspective, gratitude, and the importance of living fully, whether it's raising a glass or hiking through a vineyard. Talking with Kelly reminded me why I started this podcast in the first place. It's the human stories behind the wines, the journeys of the people who bring them to life—and the shared desire to know just a little bit more, one sip, one story at a time. Cheers to Kelly and to all of us still curious. Today we're celebrating our 5th birthday — five years, 260 episodes, countless destinations, and some of the most inspiring voices in travel. When I started this show back in 2020, I never could have imagined the incredible community that would form around it, or how many of you would join me each week to dream, to learn, and to reflect on the meaning of travel. So to mark this milestone, I wanted to do something a little different. Instead of a hotelier, a guide, or a travel CEO, I invited three of our most dedicated listeners — Max, Torey, and Nikhil — to join me. Each of them brings their own stories: from safari sunsets and personalized luxury touches, to family adventures and how travel has shaped their careers and worldviews. In today's episode, we'll swap favorite destinations, share insider hotel moments, reflect on lessons travel has taught us about life, and even dive into some Luxury Travel Insider trivia. Above all, this episode is a celebration of you — the listeners — and of the idea that travel, when done with intention, connects us more deeply to ourselves, to each other, and to humanity. So grab a glass of champagne, settle in, and let's celebrate five incredible years of Luxury Travel Insider. Looking to book a luxury hotel?
