We are thrilled to welcome back to the show Brigitte Thibault, who will be returning to Augusta, Georgia this week to compete at the Augusta National Women’s Amatuer. Brigitte is now a senior at Fresno State where she competes for the Bulldogs Women’s Golf team. Brigitte has seen great success competing in California, where she currently holds the title as Mountain West Conference individual champion and is also a member of Team Canada’s National Amateur squad. In her interview Brigitte discusses what it’s like competing at a high level, how she prepares not only on the course, but on the mental side, and what she’s expecting heading back to Augusta. You can keep up with Brigitte on Instagram (@bri.thib) and Twitter (@bri_thib) to track her progress at the ANWA as well as the rest of her collegiate season. Before talking to Brigitte, we also cover headlines from the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, Kia Classic, Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship, as well as recap the great weekend for Canadian golfers.
Invitations to the 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur were sent in the month of January and 85 players to date have been confirmed for the championship, which will take place March 31-April 3 in Augusta, Ga. LSU sophomore Ingrid Lindblad has earned her second invitation to the prestigious event.
Anna Redding is locked in on her dreams of competing on the LPGA Tour. Even though she has her Sociology degree from the University of Virginia, her goals are channeled into the golf course for now and the foreseeable future. Anna Redding’s dad was a casual golfer, so she was somewhat familiar with the game. However, she discovered and fell in love with the sport when her grandparents put her into a golf camp as a kid. It just took that one experience to pick up a club herself that changed the trajectory of Anna Redding’s future. She went on to play golf at the University of Virginia and led UVA in stroke average for two years. Individually, she was ranked as high as No. 49 in final fall Golfstat standings as a senior and excelled in the classroom, being named to the ACC All-Academic Team multiple times. Among all her accomplishments, there’s one that stands out more than others: competing in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur. As if the full-blown experience wasn’t special enough, from dining and housing to walking the sacred grounds at Augusta National, Anna Redding had the honor of hitting the very first tee shot with rows of patrons looking on. It was an experience of a lifetime that she continues to build on today. Between college teammates, a sports psychologist, coach and supportive parents, Anna Redding is certain the best of memories won’t end at Amen Corner. With a full Symetra Tour season on the horizon, after this year was cut short, she’s optimistic for the future. For Anna Redding, there is nothing more fun than competing. As long as she’s having fun with it, she won’t be done with it.

Love of the Links is proud to welcome Rick & Alexa Pano to the show. Alexa first burst onto the national scene at age of 7 in the documentary, The Short Game, which followed several young golfers leading up to and playing in the 2012 US Kids Golf World Championship. In the film, she said that she wanted to be the first woman to play in a tournament at Augusta, a feat that she accomplished seven years later when she competed in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur. Pano was the first three-time national finalist in the Drive, Chip and Putt competition. She is tied for most U.S. Kids Golf World Championships with five in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. Pano was the youngest golfer to play a LPGA of Japan Tour event when she played the 2016 Yonex Ladies Open at the age of 11. At 13, Pano played in her first LPGA Tour event, the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. The same year, she represented the United States for a win in the Junior Ryder Cup. In 2019, she became the youngest player in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur. She also qualified for the U.S. Women's Open, the youngest golfer that year. She played for the winning team in the 2019 Junior Solheim Cup.
Up and coming women's golf star Maria Fassi (63:02) joins the show to talk hitting bombs, battling on the back nine at Augusta in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, and life as a rookie on tour. Before Maria joins the show, we discuss Brendon Todd's back-to-back wins, a bunker shank for the ages, and how some things are bigger than golf.
Tournament Talk 11.4.19 - - The Dixie Amateur is a historic Florida Amateur Tournament with a long history of Tournament winners going on to play on the PGA and LPGA. MASTERS WEEK! Wow! Are you kidding me! What a great weekend of golf. Jin-Young Ko wins the ANA Inspiration for her first major victory, and it propels her to the #1 World Ranking with her second victory of the season. Very cool. We have our first Augusta National Women's Amateur in one Jennifer Kupcho, with Maria Fassi pushing her the whole time. What a wonderful tradition (I wish it weren't on the same week as the ANA Inspiration). And Canadian Corey Conners. Again wow! A Monday qualifier, -6 on the back nine to get the win the Valero Texas Open for his first PGA Tour win, and secures the last open spot at the Masters, what a fantastic thing to see. He birdies the first 4 out of 5 holes, then bogeys the next 4, to make the turn at even, then birdies the next three and 3 of the next 6 for the victory. Unreal. Let's take a look at the data that got it done for Corey on this Data Monday. It is a historic day in golf, with 75 of the world's top women amateurs starting play at the Augusta National Women's Amateur in Augusta, GA. The players will play the first 36 holes at Champions Retreat Golf Club on the Island and Bluff nines, which were designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, which is very cool. Then the field will be cut down to the low 30. On Friday, the entire field will play a "practice round" at Augusta National, with the remaining 30 playing the final 18 holes of stroke play on Augusta National on Saturday, to crown the first champion. All very, very, very cool stuff. What doesn't make sense is why the Augusta National powers that be would schedule this event on the same week as the LPGA's first major, the ANA Inspiration. Are calendars now allowed at Augusta National? Do they not care about women's golf and this is just a way to get the monkey off their collective backs and appease some of the outspoken population? It makes no sense. Let's tee it up. ▶️follow @dataaxisgolf ◀️ #golf #pgatour #golfers #lovegolf #golfday #whyilovethisgame #golflessons #golflife #anythinggolf #beautifulgolfcourses #lovegolf #betterdatabettergolf #dataaxisgolf #golfislife #golfball #golftournament #golfcourse #golfrange #golfnews #instagolf #golfswing #golfing #golfaddict #nowhitebelts #talkbirdietome Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dataaxisgolf/ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dataaxisgolf/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dataaxisgolf/message
