In the mid 1980s, Ricky Skaggs and Steve Wariner were frequently seen on television playing eye-catching Tele-looking instruments equipped with B-Benders, in vibrant colors, with beautiful flame maple necks. Though I had no idea what they were, I wanted one. I finally found the answer in the January 1987 issue of Guitar Player magazine, where it was revealed that these were custom instruments built by Nashville luthier, Joe Glaser, equipped with Seymour Duncan pickups, and his patented string bender. When I started gigging in the early 90s, I began saving my money, and once I had a respectable amount saved up, I called Glaser, only to find that he had ceased building guitars, and was instead concentrating on repairs, and his string bender business. I continued to search for one, but they seemingly never came up for sale. Recently, some of Joe's crew raided the shop attic, and they began using some leftover Glaser guitar parts to build out a handful of instruments. Today, we look at the last Glaser Bender guitar, and how I ended up with it after 35-years of searching. We also do a deep-dive on the Seymour Duncan 53-Tapped Tele set, and the Music City Bridge Wiring, plus clips with the guys that worked on the guitar, and Joe Glaser explaining his preference for single-bound Tele bodies, and figured maple necks. The pickupshttps://customshop.seymourduncan.com/53-tapped-tele/https://www.seymourduncan.com/single-product/hot-stack-stratGet on the list for a Glaser Convertible Bender installationhttps://www.glaserbender.com/scheduling-and-optionsPlaylisthttps://open.spotify.com/playlist/2SZpvTAXnsVbdDB6TSrFMv?si=42f8c409f9af4bd7Follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/askzac/NYXL Strings Amazon Linkhttps://amzn.to/3Yo5hprTo Support the Channel:Patreon  https://www.patreon.com/AskZacTip jar:  https://paypal.me/AskZacVenmo @AskZac Or check out my store for merch  - https://my-store-be0243.creator-spring.com/#askzac #glaserbender #seymourduncanTexas ToastThe #1 Country Music Podcast in Texas!Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show

The Best Speaker For Your Deluxe Reverb

What is the best speaker for my Deluxe Reverb, is one of the most asked questions of all-time. A friend recently asked me about doing an episode on this topic, and added that I should give it some added weightiness by finding out what all the pros I know use. So I queried Brent Mason, John Leventhal, Tom Bukovac, Duke Levine, Luke McQeary, JD Simo, Guthrie Trapp, Redd Volkaert, Steve Wariner, James Pennebaker, Jeff King, Jerry McPherson, Rob McNelley, Jedd Hughes, Stuie French, Ryan Wariner, Andy Reiss, Derek Wells, and Kenny Vaughan to find out what they prefer in their Deluxe Reverb. I thought we would have a huge variety of speakers, but surprisingly, it really came down to 3-types. Today we compare those 3 varieties, and look at their strengths and weaknesses. We also look at the stock speakers that were shipped with vintage (1963-1967) BF Deluxe Reverb amps, and why most players don't use them.Follow me on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/askzac/To Support the Channel:Patreon  https://www.patreon.com/AskZacTip jar:  https://paypal.me/AskZacVenmo @AskZac Or check out my store for merch  - https://my-store-be0243.creator-spring.com/#askzac #deluxereverb #zacchildsSupport the show

Hailing from the foothills of the North Georgia Appalachian Mountains, Charlsey Etheridge's roots in Americana Music run deep. There she learned to sing harmony around her grandmother's piano after church on Sundays and taught herself guitar chords from her mother's old Emmylou Harris songbook. She wrote her first song at the young age of 7 while riding through the woods in her step-father's old army jeep. After moving to Nashville in 2003, Charlsey was immersed into the Nashville songwriting culture, working alongside such music industry veterans as Harley Allen and Steve Wariner. “Even though Harley is no longer with us, I am often reminded of an invaluable piece of advice he left me,” Etheridge reflects. “He said, ‘just remember... fame will come and go... but you can ALWAYS write.' As a young 23 year old, I didn't think much of that statement at the time, but through the years, his words resonate with me more and more.” In 2013, Etheridge released her first full-length studio album, appropriately titled, Memories of Mine. The critically acclaimed record intimately paid homage to the sounds of her youth, exploring the Bluegrass, Gospel, and old Folk songs her grandmother used to sing to her. Memories received stellar reviews in such bluegrass and roots music publications as No Depression and The Bluegrass Situation. The 2013 album set the stage for Charlsey's future success in Americana and Roots music. In 2021, Etheridge collaborated with legendary guitarist Jack Pearson (of Allmon Brothers Band fame) to release a previously recorded, newly mastered five-song EP, An Acoustic Christmas with Charlsey and Jack. The holiday album blends Jack's lyrical musicality and lightning-precise fingerwork and with Charlsey's butter-smooth voice in a not-to-be-forgotten compilation of holiday favorites. Now, nearly 8 years after her first studio album, Charlsey is releasing a compilation of original music, entitled Scars of Mine. She has joined forces with MuzikMafia veteran, Jerry Navarro (Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson), who is also the founder of the new Indy label, The Frequency Spot (of which Etheridge is also an active artist). Joining Charlsey in this collaboration are band members Marcus Finnie (Lady A, Keb Mo, Taj Mahal), Walt Scott, Chris Walters (Barbara Mandrell), and Pat Bergeson (Suzy Bogguss, Lyle Lovett, Chet Atkins). The project is co-produced by sought after guitarist and musician, Pat Bergeson. If you've ever stressed about how to say Husker Du, Bon Iver, Chvrches, or Bjork, we've got you!  PART TWO:Our in-depth interview with John HallABOUT JOHN HALL:John Hall is a musician, songwriter, community activist, founder of the band Orleans, and former US Congressman. After forming the group Kangaroo, which shared house band duties with Bruce Springsteen's group The Castilles at Greenwich Village's legendary Café Wha, Hall worked extensively as a sideman. He toured and/or recorded as a guitarist with Seals & Crofts, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat, Carly Simon, Jackson Brown, and others, but established himself as a songwriter when he and then-wife Johanna penned “Half Moon” on Janis Joplin's Pearl album. After John formed the group Orleans, he and Johanna continued to find success as songwriters with the band's hit singles “Dance with Me” and “Still the One.” The following decade, John became a chart-topping country writer when he co-wrote Steve Wariner's #1 single “You Can Dream of Me.” He's known for co-founding the organization Musicians United for Safe Energy with Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, and Graham Nash. John helped organize the legendary 1979 No Nukes concerts at Madison Square Garden, and his song “Power” became the anthem for the event. In 2006, John was elected to the US House of Representatives, representing New York's 19th District. After serving two terms, he returned to making music. John's songs have been covered by Millie Jackson, Chaka Kahn, Ricky Skaggs, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Levon Helm, Bobby McFerrin, Bonnie Raitt, Chet Atkins, New Grass Revival, Jose Feliciano, Bill Anderson, The Oak Ridge Boys, Patty Loveless, and more. We pull our stools up to the bar as Melton serves up his take on Garth Brooks and Steve Wariner's 1997/1998 hit, "Longneck Bottle", a swinging, honky-tonking celebration (or is it?) of contentment with one's station.  This one's got fiddle, pedal steel, drawly pitch bends, and all the elements needed for Garth Brooks's typically immersive approach to whatever style he happens to be performing.  So come let your hair down, and let's get into a fun one.  Only, be careful with those spurs when you're on the dance floor- those things can be dangerous. What's that? You say your thirst for exploring realistic southern, working class life isn't satiated?  Well then, you need to check out Melton's other podcast, Propaniacs: A King of the Hill Podcast.  Alamos all around.

From his humble beginnings in Nashville to writing huge hits for Alabama, Confederate Railroad, Tanya Tucker, Joe Diffie and Steve Wariner and others. Dave Gibson is also an award winning Children's book author: CLICK THE TITLE of "War at the Ice Cream Store: Mustachio Pistachio vs Bully Vanilli".  Recorded May 13, 2021 Episode Sponsored by: Surfshark and Passport America.     FROM WIKIPEDIA: David Lowell Gibson is an American country music songwriter. Gibson has written songs for Alabama, Tanya Tucker, and others. Gibson was born in El Dorado, Arkansas and raised in Odessa, Texas before moving to Nashville, Tennessee in 1982. He held a publishing contract with a company owned by The Oak Ridge Boys. Between 1990 and 1994, Gibson was the frontman of the Gibson/Miller Band.    List of songs written by Dave Gibson Gibson wrote or co-wrote the following songs: Alabama: "Jukebox in My Mind" Larry Boone: "Don't Give Candy to a Stranger" Confederate Railroad: "Queen of Memphis", "Daddy Never Was the Cadillac Kind" Joe Diffie: "Ships That Don't Come In" Gibson/Miller Band: "High Rollin'", "Texas Tattoo", "Red, White, and Blue Collar", "Stone Cold Country" James House: "That'll Be the Last Thing" Montgomery Gentry: "Lonely and Gone" Southern Pacific: "Honey I Dare You", "All Is Lost" Pam Tillis: "Do You Know Where Your Man Is" Tanya Tucker: "If It Don't Come Easy" Conway Twitty: "House on Old Lonesome Road" Steve Wariner: "Midnight Fire", "Don't You Give Up on Love", "Heart Trouble"   Gibson/Miller Band was an American country music band founded in 1990 by Dave Gibson and Bill "Blue" Miller, the latter of whom was a former guest musician in rock musician Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band. Both Gibson and Miller served as vocalists and guitarists in the Gibson/Miller Band, which also included Mike Daly (steel guitar), Bryan Grassmeyer (bass guitar), and Steve Grossman (drums). Grassmeyer was replaced in 1993 by Doug Kahan. Between 1992 and 1994, the Gibson/Miller Band recorded two albums for Epic Records, in addition to charting seven singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. After disbanding in 1994, both Gibson and Miller assumed solo careers.   Gibson/Miller Band was formed in 1990, when Doug Johnson, then-vice president of Epic Records, introduced Dave Gibson and Blue Miller to each other, thinking that the two artists would work well together as songwriters. Among Gibson's cuts were "If It Don't Come Easy" by Tanya Tucker, "Ships That Don't Come In" by Joe Diffie and "Queen of Memphis" by Confederate Railroad. Gibson and Miller soon assembled a band and recorded a demo tape, which they sent to Johnson.   By 1992, the band was signed to Epic Records; their debut single, "Big Heart", was released at the end of the year. In 1993, the group's first album, titled Where There's Smoke, was released. Counting "Big Heart", the album produced five chart singles overall, including the No. 20 "High Rollin'", their highest-charting. The Gibson/Miller Band also received the Academy of Country Music's award for Top New Vocal Duo or Group.   A second album, Red, White & Blue Collar, was released in 1994. Serving as its lead-off single was a cover of Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"; Gibson/Miller Band's version was also featured in the soundtrack for the 1994 film The Cowboy Way. Red, White & Blue Collar was less successful than its predecessor, however, and the Gibson/Miller Band was dropped from Epic's roster that same year, shortly before disbanding. Both Gibson and Miller continued to record solo, and as backing musicians for other artists. In 1997, Gibson married singer-songwriter Daisy Dern.   https://www.facebook.com/hotcountrypodcast https://www.hotcountrypodcast.com  https://www.facebook.com/OfficialChrisMcKay

This audio was taken from a Naked Vibes TV episode where Wood joined me to play live & to share conversation about the creative process, his insights on the importance of commitment in relationships, his activism on behalf of songwriters' constitutional rights, & more. Wood is well-known in music circles as a lyricist adept at turning a phrase. He has a great sense of humor, so we enjoyed some good laughs! Enjoy the show on NAKED VIBES TV: SHOW NOTES: 1:55 - SONG - LIVE PERFORMANCE: "Private Malone" performed live by Wood Newton at the Bluebird Cafe, Nashville. 6:31 - We're recording our conversation in the studio of painter, Gloria Newton. Wood respects this as her sacred space. We all need sacred space for our creativity to blossom. 7:04 - Wood has over 2000 songs in his catalog, recorded by Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Steve Wariner, Oak Ridge Boys, David Ball, B.J. Thomas, Anne Murray, George Jones, Restless Heart & many more. 7:42 - Everyone is creative. As a songwriter, Wood's antennae are always up for new phrases & ideas. Inspiration comes from everywhere. It's amazing what people say on Facebook. Watch out  - that could end up in a song! 9:00 - Wood respects the ideas that other songwriters share as part of their own creative work. Though inspiration is everywhere, ideas shared as titles or "works in progress" are not up for grabs. 9:35 - Tim & Miles Thompson had the idea for the song, "It's Time For Me To Go" & Wood helped them phrase it. One of his strong suits is creating phrases that work easily for the singer. Great video on YouTube. 10:33 - Wood has collaborated with so many other songwriters. He talks about the benefits of collaboration & the way that process continues to benefit him even when he's writing solo. 11:40 - When you're writing with another artist & the hair on your arms stands up, you've probably got something! The intuitive nature of creativity is where the power lies - & that comes into play in business, relationships, & every other endeavor. 12:26 - Wood relies on his intuition as his editor in writing & business. He's been published by Sony, Jerry Crutchfield at MCA, Kenny O'Dell & Bob Montgomery at House of Gold Music, Jim & David Malloy, Even Stevens & Eddie Rabbit. Wood counts on his intuition to alert him to what direction to take, even moreso now that he runs his own publishing business. 13:30 - Wood pays close attention to his emotions about an idea when writing. Joy, sadness, & fun are all guides. He loves the comedy of Roger Miller. What a laugh! 13:58 - Miller's song "Husbands & Wives" brings forth strong emotions. Wood talks about the premise of this song, pride, being the demise of many good relationships. Celebrating his 42nd wedding anniversary on the date of this video shoot, we discuss the richness of lasting relationships. 15:09 - There's freedom in commitment. Wood tells the story of meeting a couple celebrating their 50th anniversary & telling them, "That's a good start!" He also tells of marrying Gloria in Oklahoma because there was no waiting period. When he shared their story on Facebook, it got more "likes" & comments than anything he's ever posted - & he has over 5000 fans there. That says something about the fact that people ultimately want good, lasting relationships. Wood talks about never taking your relationships for granted. 16:57 - Many young men have come forward searching for answers to that these days. Wood is happy to share his wisdom with them in these personal areas & is also open to creative collaboration with writers getting their start. 17:53 - Wood is very real & open, not interested in shallow relationships. That kind of openness is what brings success - in eve...
