Welcome once again to a VERY special edition of The Flaghunters Golf Podcast. Today, we have my friend and World number Four on the Pod, Lydia Ko.    Lydia was born in  South Korea and moved to New Zealand when she was four.  At 15 years of age she became the youngest to ever win a LPGA event and the only person to win 2 LPGA events as an Amateur.  Lydia also became the youngest Major Championship winner at 18 years of age when she won the Evian Championship in 2015. Her closing round of 63 became the 2nd lowest to win a Major in Woman's Golf history. She bested that number with a 62 in the ANA Inspiration in 2021.        While Lydia had so much success early, she did struggle a bit after her meteoric rise. Lydia went though some tough times with her game but bounced back with the help of her Coach, Sean Foley , to come back into the form that she's used to playing at. Something that I highly recommend that you read is her letter to her public letter she wrote to her 15 year old self. You can find the link directly on her Instagram page.  The letter gives a deep, compassionate look into who Lydia really is, a genuine Woman with the wisdom of someone much older than her age of 26.    Although I am 52 years of age, I look up to Lydia. She's a very humble, grounded superstar that has her life and her game in a very healthy perspective. This is something that we should all strive for.   A big hug to Lydia and a sincere thanks for spending some time to enlighten all of us.  I have no doubt that Lyds will continue to be in Championship form for years to come .

In this segment, Dottie Pepper shares the story of how she became the first On-Course Commentator in Master's history and Tiger's surprise when he saw her walking inside the ropes. We hear stories of how she was able to get into Augusta National and down Magnolia Lane to see the final round of the 1987 Masters when she was a senior at Furman, plus, as a Seve fan, her disappointment when he hit his 2nd shot in the water on 15 during the final round of the '86 Masters. She answers Matthew Laurance's question about the greatest round of golf she's witnessed either as a player or commentator. We finish up hearing about the dramatic finish when she captured her first LPGA major championship victory at the 1992 ANA Inspiration.

Jamie had Kevin Kisner finish Runner up at 66/1 along with another T2nd in Dominican Republic with 40/1 Alex Smalley at Corales Puntacana where Chad Ramey gained his maiden PGA Tour title. On the DP World Tour in Qatar it was victory for the Scots as the supremely talented Scot Ewen Ferguson battled back bravely from the heartache of Kenya to win his first professional title at Qatar Masters winning at -7 in a brutal contest at the weekend in Doha. This week it is the first major of the year as the Ladies of the LPGA & LET Tours flock to Mission Hills Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, California for Chevron Championship formerly known as ANA Inspiration. Patty Tavatanakit was the winner last year at -18. Measuring just over 6,800 yards Mission Hills is an iconic venue in the Women's game with world's best such as Jin Young Ko, Inbee Park, Lexi Thompson and Annika Sorenstam all lifting this Major Championship. Craig & Ryan go through how we feel the first major will play out and we both have a consensus value pick at 20/1. On the PGA Tour we stay in Texas this week as we head to San Antonio for Valero Texas Open the last stop on Tour before The Masters next week! 7,464 yard Par 72 Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) takes Centre stage as Jordan Spieth returns to defend his dramatic title win last year. This event throws up surprises so don't be surprised to see a triple figure winner win this week. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @ChasingPars_Pod, @ThomsonGolf94, @GolfTipster5 & @Js_GolfingTips. April is proving to be a lucrative month for Lydia Ko who is back to the stunning form that saw her reach number one in the world at just age 17.Ko's drought-breaking victory at the Lotte Championship in Hawaii yesterday was he first since April 2018 as she captured her 16th career title on the LPGA and 21st overall title. The Kiwi finished with a final round of 65 to end the tournament at 28-under, seven shots clear of four players tied for second.Ko has completed 100 straight holes with just one bogey. The US$300,000 winner's cheque came a fortnight after earning US$287,716 for second place at the ANA Inspiration, the opening major of the year. The 23-year-old has so far earned US$791,944 for the season (NZ$1.1m) with four top 10 finishes to go with her victory. She now sits in 13th all-time on the LPGA career money list with US$11,592,269 earned across 184 events since her professional debut in 2013.Ko will move into the top 10 of the world golf rankings and sits second on the Race to the Globe CME season standings behind Nelly Korda who was second in Hawaii. After winning 19 times before turning 21, Ko had a period where she struggled for form, followed by a stint where she was in contention, but couldn't produce the final-round performances she had become accustomed to.One of those final-round struggles came at the Marathon Classic in August, where Ko lost a five-shot lead with six holes to play in the final round, having led the field over the first three days. After victory in Hawaii, she admitted she had struggled to sleep before that round."I told my mum this morning, before Marathon, I couldn't even sleep on Saturday night – even though I've been in that position before, it had been such a long time, I think I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and I know there were a lot of expectations."But I slept great last night, I just said 'hey, my fate is already chosen, and I'm just going to play the best golf I can'."Close calls and lost leads led to doubt creeping in for the 23-year-old."When you're in that position, and it doesn't happen, you do doubt. If I said I didn't doubt myself at all, that would be a lie."Hand on my heart, there were times I wondered 'hey, I don't know if I'm ever going to be back in the winner's circle', but I'm obviously grateful for everything that has happened in my career so far. Being back in this position is super cool."If the form continues she will go into the Tokyo Olympics as one of the favourites as she attempts to go one better after claiming silver in Rio five years ago.
