What if your next breakthrough on the golf course isn't happening during your round—but after it?In this episode, I'm sharing an excerpt from a live coaching session inside Your Mental Caddie where we talk about one of the most overlooked skills in golf: learning from your rounds instead of simply reacting to them. Most golfers either celebrate a good round or try to forget a bad one. But both approaches leave valuable lessons behind.I'll walk you through the three simple questions I encourage every golfer to ask after a round so you can build your mental toolkit, strengthen your confidence, and create solutions that actually help you perform better the next time you tee it up.You'll learn:Why identifying what went well is critical for confidenceHow to evaluate mistakes without beating yourself upThe mental patterns that keep showing up in your gameHow to create your own solutions instead of feeling at the mercy of golfA simple process for turning every round into a learning opportunityRemember: every round gives you data. The golfers who improve fastest are the ones who know how to use it.If you're ready to build a stronger mental game one round at a time, this episode is for you. ⛳️Get the Master Your Golf Brain System powered by My Mental Caddy™️ appReceive free weekly mental golf tips HEREHow many shots is your mental golf costing you? By the end of this episode, you'll learn why golfers already have the right answers for their game — and how to draw those out using facts instead of tips. Send us Fan MailBrandon Holtz won the 2025 U.S. Mid-Amateur at Troon Country Club in Arizona last September. Along with lifting the Robert T. Jones Jr. Trophy, that victory also earned Holtz the opportunity to compete at The Masters and The US Open in 2026. Like the Amateur champions before him, Brandon was a division 1 student-athlete, just not in golf. The Bloomington, IL native played college basketball at Illinois State University on a Redbird squad that posted multiple 20+ win seasons and nearly punched their ticket to the big dance. In this episode of On The Mark, Mark Immelman welcomes back Will Stubbs from Zen Green Stage / Zen Swing Stage for a conversation that hits a major truth about modern golf: the game doesn't have an attraction problem—it has a retention problem. Golf participation has surged, but most new players don't stick—largely because golf is hard, practice isn't realistic, and learning infrastructure hasn't kept up with access. Will breaks down the “practice gap”—why sterile range/simulator reps don't translate to the real golf course where slopes, lies, turf conditions, and wind change everything. Then he shares actionable ways to improve faster: build situational awareness, train on uneven lies, and learn to read greens using a simple clock-face method that teaches you to see gravity like a blueprint. In This Episode, You'll Discover: Why golf has a retention problem (not an attraction problem) The stat that should shock everyone: only ~25–27% become “committed golfers” Why most beginners never get lessons (and how golf learning hasn't scaled) The “practice gap”: why simulator/range practice can be misleading Why slopes (not length) are a course's greatest defense A simple putting read framework: Zero-grade line + clock face How Zen Green Stage helps golfers train compound breaks and real-world pace/reads How Zen Swing Stage recreates your lie instantly after each shot in sim play Why better practice turns fear into confidence (tension comes from doubt), and Where to find Zen + resources. Key Takeaways Access has exploded, learning hasn't. More people try golf, but most don't become committed players. Information ≠ understanding. Data is everywhere, but experience is what teaches. Practice should look like golf. If you only train flat lies, the course will expose you. Read greens by finding gravity first. The clock-face method simplifies the entire problem. Better puzzle-solvers score better. Golf is problem solving—practice needs variety and constraints. This podcast is also available to watch on YouTube. Search and subscribe to Mark Immelman.

Nobody knows Shinnecock like Jimmy Dunne. A South Shore Long Island kid who caddied and painted houses in the summers, Dunne played Shinnecock at 16 after landing a painting job at a member's house in Southampton. He walked off the 18th convinced it was the greatest golf course in the world. Now the president of Seminole GC and a member at Augusta National, Pine Valley, and Cypress Point, he still feels that way. On this episode of the TGJ Podcast, Tom Coyne joins Dunne in his Southampton golf shrine to share what he loves about Shinnecock and preview the U.S. Open. Dunne also discusses his legendary 63 at Shinnecock, how memorizing every caddie's name at Augusta became a dealmaker's cheat code, and what it was like helping steer the PGA Tour through its war with LIV. It's a rare look at one of the world's most iconic grounds through the eyes of someone who's played them all.The Golfer's Journal and this podcast are made possible by reader support. How big of a golf sicko is Apple TV's lead soccer analyst Taylor Twellman? In 2018, Twellman—who retired in 2010 as MLS's all-time leading scorer and was at that point at ESPN—unleashed what is still the most viral rant in US soccer history when the Americans failed to make the World Cup. What most don't know is that the next day he was set to embark on a four-day golf bender through Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Sebonack and Friar's Head. The rant made him an overnight sensation, and forced Twellman to stay in the studio. But as he explains to TGJ's Travis Hill, he's so hooked on golf that he'll forever regret missing the trip. In this episode, Twellman discusses the importance of golf in his life, breaks down how the USMNT can make a run at the 2026 World Cup, and explains why Argentina is the Bryson DeChambeau of this summer's competition. The Golfer's Journal and this podcast are made possible by reader support. In this episode of On The Mark, host Mark Immelman welcomes Arjun Malik—one of the leading voices helping grow the game in India—for a deep dive into the part of golf improvement that most players skip: routines and structure. Mark and Arjun's conversation quickly turns into a practical masterclass on what happens before the shot, after the shot, before the round, and after the round—and how those habits separate serious golfers from weekend “range ball beaters.” Arjun shares his own journey as a self-taught golfer who struggled with “quantity over quality,” including a memorable tournament warm-up where he hit ~300 balls and was exhausted by the back nine. That experience shaped his coaching mission: build systems that help golfers prepare smarter, track performance honestly, and show up on the course with confidence—not chaos. In This Episode, You'll Learn: ✅ Why many golfers work hard but don't improve (the missing ingredient is structure) ✅ A simple post-round template to turn “I played bad” into real feedback ✅ The easiest stats to track (fairways, greens, misses, up-and-downs, 3-putts) and what they reveal ✅ Why golfers get so negative—and how to “count the good shots” to reset your mindset ✅ A fast post-shot reset: what to ask yourself so mistakes don't multiply ✅ How to build a pre-shot routine that fits your learning style (visual vs auditory) ✅ Why your routine should be timed (example: 12 seconds) and trained in the off-season, and ✅ How Tour players “replace the bad with good” using rehearsals after the shot. Key Takeaways: Less can be more. Improvement isn't about endless reps—it's about purposeful reps. Stats beat emotions. Track a few simple numbers and you'll know exactly what to practice next. Credit the good shots. Most golfers only react to mistakes; better players reinforce the wins too. Reset after every shot. A quick check (“did it start/finish where I wanted?” “what did I feel?”) keeps you present. Your pre-shot routine is a trigger—not a performance. It should create one clear feel and a “ready” click. Develop your routines and go from chaos to clarity on the course. Download and listen or watch on YouTube - search and subscrbe to Mark Immelman.

A meteor lit up Sydney's skies at 6:30 last night and Duncan at the Norwood driving range had absolutely no idea because he was locked in on his swing. He films himself hitting to analyse his technique and only discovered the meteor when he reviewed the footage afterwards. He briefly looked up mid-session, thought it might be lightning, and went straight back to work. The meteor is in the background of his swing video and it looks incredible. Duncan is choosing to see it as a sign from the universe that his golf game is about to improve. We respect the optimism.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nobody knows Aronimink like Director of Golf Jeff Kiddie. He's spent the last 18 years preparing one of golf's oldest clubs for big moments. Now comes the biggest yet: the 2026 PGA Championship, returning to the Philadelphia area for the first time since Gary Player hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy at Aronimink in 1962. On this episode of the TGJ Podcast, Kiddie joins host Tom Coyne in the clubhouse to preview the tournament: what makes this par-70 Donald Ross layout so uniquely demanding, what the 2017 Gil Hanse restoration returned to the course, and a hole-by-hole breakdown that reveals where the championship will be won and lost. The Golfer's Journal and this podcast are made possible by reader support. In this episode of On the Mark, host Mark Immelman sits down with PGA TOUR winner Chris Gotterup to go inside the ropes—covering the real nuts and bolts behind elite performance: power, feel vs. technical thoughts, practice drills, putting improvement, and handling pressure when it matters most. Chris shares what was happening in his mind and body during his playoff win at TPC Scottsdale, how he trains for speed without getting “too technical” in tournament weeks, and why communication with his caddie is one of the biggest keys to performing under the gun. In This Episode, You'll Discover: What playoff pressure actually feels like—and how Chris handles it in real time How Chris thinks about power (and the setup tweaks he uses when he wants more distance) Why he avoids technical thoughts during tournament weeks (and saves them for offseason work) The “guardrails” approach: shaping shots without over-complicating your swing Training aids he uses (band, wrist device, HackMotion) and why they help Course management for different venues—Augusta vs. Harbour Town (and why mini driver matters) Putting improvement: start-line work, 3-putt avoidance, and speed training with Tim Yelverton Mental game under chaos (Waste Management), plus a playoff mindset: play to win Chris's favorite win breakdown—and what each victory taught him Key Themes: Pressure Is Normal—It Means You Care Chris is clear: nerves show up at the highest level, and that's part of competing. Feel First (Tournament Week), Technique Later (Offseason) He'll work on mechanics away from competition, but once the tournament starts, he commits to what he brought that week. “Guardrails” Beat Constant Overhauls He stays inside a preferred shot pattern—then adjusts toward neutral when needed, rather than rebuilding mid-week. Communication Is a Performance Tool When things get loud or fast, Chris slows down by communicating clearly with his caddie about target, shape, and intent. Episode Takeaways ➡ Power is useful—but it's only valuable if the next shot backs it up. ➡ Feel-driven golf gets more reliable when you keep your swing inside simple “guardrails.” ➡ Putting improves when you start with start-line, then build speed control and accountability. ➡ Under pressure, slow down by communicating clearly—target, shape, and intent.
