Andy and Brendan have a lot to talk about for this Friday episode with the first round of the Cognizant proving to be a content bonanza. Billy Horschel was chasing alligators and criticizing the setup, PGA Tour Championship Management destroyed a once-proud event, and golf superstar Jake Knapp opened his week with a 59! The two discuss all of these topics and the storied history of The Honda Classic and remember how tough PGA National used to play. Andy shares the list of previous winners at the course and notes how many of them are top-tier legends of the game. Brendan rants about PGA Tour Championship Management overseeding the course and allowing the course record to be shattered on Thursday of the tournament. They briefly discuss the South African Open and HSBC Women's World Championship before diving into some golf news ahead of the weekend. Annika Sorenstam has thrown her support behind former Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott to take over as the LPGA commish, leading to all of the sports world mocking this idea. There's some debate about whether any worse choices are out there, and if there are, it's decided that there are very few. Andy announces that he's been invited to a watch party for the big LAGC vs. The Bay match on Monday morning Pacific Time and wonders if he should make an appearance. In Golf Advice, a late submission commiserates with Andy about Jake Knapp's 59 and an emailer asks for advice on an upcoming golf trip. To end this episode, PJ has a short Flashback Friday about the 1971 PGA Championship at the original PGA National, the first time the event was held in February.

(00:01) Golf Talk and Thanksgiving Banter This chapter brings together the unique perspectives of golf enthusiasts as we kick off with an entertaining look at the vibrant atmosphere of Palm Springs, humorously dubbed "La La Land." We share insights on the remarkable talent of Caitlin Clark, noting her prowess not only in basketball but also on the golf course, where she's making waves by playing alongside legends like Annika Sorenstam. The conversation takes a playful turn as we speculate about Caitlin potentially outplaying Tom Brady in golf, a notion that's both amusing and intriguing. We also touch on football dynamics, mentioning recent changes in NFL teams, and humorously comment on the rivalry between the Giants and the Jets. As we approach Thanksgiving, we acknowledge the seasonal slowdown in golf activities while anticipating the joys of the holiday season. (14:24) Effective Teaching Strategies and Adaptation This chapter focuses on the dynamic process of teaching and how to effectively guide instructors to adapt their methods based on individual student needs. We explore the importance of sharing successful strategies among teachers and obtaining feedback to understand what works and why certain methods may not be as effective for everyone. Emphasizing the need for adaptability, we discuss how different teaching techniques can resonate with various students, especially in group settings, and the significance of personalized instruction. Additionally, we highlight the importance of recognizing when a teaching approach is not working and making necessary adjustments, as illustrated through a personal anecdote involving a student's breakthrough moment. Overall, we stress the value of flexibility and communication in teaching to ensure that each student receives the most effective guidance. (24:26) Effective Communication in Teaching Golf This chapter focuses on the challenges and nuances of conveying golf instruction effectively through digital platforms. We explore the difficulties faced by coaches when providing generalized tips online, acknowledging that not all advice is suitable for every player. We discuss how golfers often misinterpret information found in videos or magazines, leading to confusion or even detrimental effects on their game. Highlighting the importance of personalized coaching, we emphasize that face-to-face interactions remain invaluable for truly understanding a player's needs and abilities. The discussion also touches on how high handicappers might misidentify themselves as "better players" when engaging with advanced tips, underlining the need for careful judgment and guidance from coaches. Through shared experiences, we stress the importance of tailoring instruction to each individual and staying focused on their unique requirements. (37:16) Fixing Your Golf Slice This chapter unpacks the complexities of fixing a golf slice, highlighting the multitude of factors that must be considered, such as start line, curve size, launch angle, and the specific part of the club impacting the ball. We discuss how a generic two-minute solution often fails to address the individual nuances each golfer faces. The conversation emphasizes the importance of identifying the ball flight that causes the most frustration, such as a pull hook, and working to eliminate that specific issue to improve overall performance. By focusing on alleviating the most dreaded shot, golfers can achieve mental clarity and play more comfortably, even if their practice time is limited. We also share personal anecdotes to illustrate the emotional connection golfers have with their game and how targeted solutions can lead to more satisfying experiences on the course.

"It was tough. For every advertising sponsor that I brought in, I had a million rejections. Scottie Scheffler and Nelly Korda win again to keep their dominant spring's going this week on their prospective tours. Scottie Scheffler wins the RBC Heritage in a Monday finish as the PGA Tour gets panned for not moving up the tee times on Sunday with impending weather issues. What can stop Scottie at this point? Could this be the year we see the Grand Slam happen? We will discuss Scottie's dominance and if there is anything that can slow him down. Speaking of dominant, Nelly Korda won her 5th straight tournament in women's professional golf. She ties Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez for the most consecutive wins in a row in LPGA Tour history. One thing they both have in common is that the competition seems to melt in the final round when paired with the two world number one players. 15 year old Miles Russell made history this week on the Korn Ferry Tour as he not only made the cut, but had a top 20 finish. The high school sophomore earned himself another Korn Ferry start and received a PGA Tour exemption after this impressive showing. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is this week and we will have some fun guessing pairings and cannot believe how many players with no business being on the PGA Tour still are playing this week. This May marks the 20th anniversary of Annika Sorenstam playing the Bank of America Colonial at Colonial Country Club, where she became the first woman in more than 50 years to play with the men on the PGA Tour. That week was highly anticipated, stressful, and loaded with controversy as more than 300 reporters, hundreds of photographers, and thousands of fans flocked to Texas to see her play. The reactions to her inclusion ranged from supportive to hostile, and though she handled herself admirably both on and off the course, it's no surprise that she never did it again. In a way, Sorenstam was playing for the entire LPGA Tour and women's golf in general that week. She wasn't the first. Two women before her, and three after, also took their turn playing with the men, and the story of those women is one of courage, triumph, failure, and a no small amount of sexism. This is the story of the six women in history who teed it up with the men on the PGA Tour.
