On today's pages, Chullin 36 and 37, the rabbis debate how to determine whether a sick animal was still alive at the moment it was slaughtered. Blood, movement, and other signs become crucial evidence in a surprisingly detailed discussion about the boundary between life and death. But the daf ultimately points toward a deeper question: what does it mean for a human being to be truly alive? Is life merely a matter of biology, or is something more required of us? Listen and find out.

The Rizzuto Show

Parents everywhere know there's a level of frustration where you stop talking… and start blasting Huey Lewis in the garage like your life depends on it. This episode starts with Rizz admitting one of his kids pushed him so far over the edge that he had to activate the emergency happy playlist — and honestly, that may be the most relatable thing ever said on a daily comedy show. The gang dives deep into the songs guaranteed to rescue your mood, including Bermuda by John Linnell, “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher,” “Power of Love,” “Stayin' Alive,” Wilson Phillips, Grateful Dead deep cuts, and enough Motown to heal emotional damage from modern life. Somehow the conversation turns into Michael Jackson hiding under your bed, CPR training from The Office, and whether Poison's “Nothing But a Good Time” should legally qualify as antidepressants. Then things escalate exactly the way they always do around here. There's major concert news with the Smashing Pumpkins launching a massive anniversary tour for Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness, plus Sonic Temple highlights featuring Shinedown, Daughtry, and Lzzy Hale absolutely crushing live performances. The crew also debates legendary tours after a “greatest concerts of all time” list sparks chaos because apparently U2 and Garth Brooks got disrespected so hard that Moon nearly launched himself through a wall.Speaking of questionable life decisions, Moon opens up about tattoo regret and realizing some of his old ink now resembles “a Walmart quarter-machine mistake.” The gang breaks down famous rock stars with zero tattoos, including Lars Ulrich, Alice Cooper, Trent Reznor, and Dave Mustaine. Meanwhile, Moon's tattoos are slowly evolving into what the show describes as “touched-up church Jesus art.” Honestly, no notes.Celebrity nonsense also reaches elite levels in this episode. Tom Brady apparently debuted a new look that made listeners compare him to Patrick Bateman, an animatronic billionaire, and a rejected Zoolander villain. The crew debates whether Brady's “perfect guy” magic is finally wearing off after another bizarre fashion appearance. There's also fake celebrity dating rumors involving Pamela Anderson and Tom Cruise, SNL madness with Chad Smith impersonating Will Ferrell, Paul McCartney showing up with new music nobody expected, and Casey Musgraves performing breakup songs on top of a washing machine because country music symbolism has fully left Earth. As always, this daily comedy show somehow mixes music nerdery, parenting meltdowns, celebrity gossip, nostalgic chaos, weird news, and absolutely unnecessary side conversations into one giant sarcastic fever dream. It's basically group therapy for people who laugh at inappropriate moments and still think “Stayin' Alive” is a medically useful song.If you love comedy podcasts, funny celebrity gossip, weird stories, sarcastic humor, music debates, and total morning show chaos straight out of St. Louis, this episode has everything except emotional maturity. And yes… somebody absolutely ends the show talking about porno birthdays. A Breath of Fresh Air
The Bee Gees from the Inside: Stephen Gibb Tells

A Breath of Fresh Air

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 28, 2026 52:00

The Bee Gees are one of the most influential and enduring acts in popular music history, a band whose songs have soundtracked generations and transcended genres, eras and trends. Formed by brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, the group's journey began long before global fame, rooted in family, harmony and an almost instinctive musical bond.Born on the Isle of Man and raised between England and Australia, the Gibb brothers began performing together as kids. Music wasn't just an interest — it was the family language. By the late '50s, the brothers were already writing songs, honing their harmonies and learning the discipline of performance. Their early success in Australia laid the groundwork for an international career that would soon explode. The Bee Gees' first major breakthrough came in the late '60s with emotionally rich, melodic songs like “To Love Somebody,” “Massachusetts,” “Words,” and “I've Gotta Get a Message to You.” Their close, often aching harmonies and introspective songwriting set them apart. In the '70s, the Bee Gees achieved one of the most dramatic transformations in music history. With Barry's soaring falsetto, the brothers became the undisputed kings of the disco era. Songs like “Stayin' Alive,” “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “You Should Be Dancing” dominated charts worldwide, largely through their work on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack — one of the best-selling albums of all time. Their songwriting partnership extended beyond their own recordings, producing hits for artists including Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.Yet behind the global phenomenon was a tight-knit family unit. It was within this world that Stephen Gibb, Barry's eldest son, grew up. Raised surrounded by music, Stephen witnessed the Bee Gees at work from an unusually intimate vantage point. As a child, he watched his father and uncles write, rehearse and refine songs, often assuming that such musical brilliance was simply part of everyday life. Only later did he realise just how extraordinary that environment was.Stephen chose not to follow directly in his family's musical footsteps. Instead of pop harmonies, he gravitated toward hard rock and heavy metal, inspired by bands like Van Halen and Def Leppard. Determined to carve out his own identity, he built his own career. It was a conscious decision to step out of the Bee Gees' long shadow while still deeply respecting it.Tragedy struck the Gibb family with the loss of Andy Gibb in 1988, followed by Maurice Gibb in 2003 and Robin Gibb in 2012. These losses marked the end of the Bee Gees as a performing group, but not the end of their music. Barry continued performing and recording, often with Stephen by his side. Over time, Stephen became a trusted musical collaborator and guitarist in Barry's touring band, providing both musical and emotional support as his father carried the legacy forward alone. In 2021, Barry released Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook, a roots-influenced reimagining of classic Bee Gees songs, recorded with a stellar lineup of artists including Dolly Parton, Keith Urban and Alison Krauss. The album was widely praised and served as a poignant tribute to his brothers and their shared catalogue. It also marked the closing chapter of Barry's recording career, as he has since stepped into a well-earned and contented retirement.Today, the Bee Gees' legacy remains immense. Their songs continue to resonate because they speak to universal emotions — love, heartbreak, resilience and hope — delivered through melodies that feel both intimate and timeless. Through Barry, and through the respect and care shown by Stephen, that legacy is protected with dignity rather than spectacle. The Bee Gees were never just a band. They were a family, bound by blood, harmony and an extraordinary gift for songwriting — a gift that continues to echo across generations.Today Stephen Gibb joins us with the story of The Bee Gees.

It's Baton Rouge: Out to Lunch

The disco era of the Seventies is characterized by a danceable "four-on-the-floor" beat, lush orchestration, synthesizers, and glamorous fashion, ultimately exploding into mainstream pop culture with hits, iconic clubs like Studio 54, and films like Saturday Night Fever, before fading by 1980. Filmed in 1977, Saturday Night Fever was a critical and commercial success, helping to popularize disco around the world. The soundtrack, featuring songs from the Bee Gees, has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums and the second-biggest-selling soundtrack of all time. I don’t know about you but I still like dancing to Stayin’ Alive, Jive Talkin, and More than a Woman. By all accounts, so does my lunch guest Alyssa Lundy, Founder & CEO of 5 to 9 Dance Club, a sober, early-evening dance club for women only. Turning coffee shops into Miami-themed dance floors, 5 to 9 Dance Club transforms each venue into a full, nightclub experience with lighting, screens, DJ production, and beach décor. Every event also includes access to mental health professionals, business resources, and women-focused non-profits, as well as a welcome committee to ensure no one feels excluded. The most famous dinosaur, Barney, an anthropomorphic purple Tyrannosaurus rex, didn’t come onto the scene until 1992 but was as ubiquitous on television and in toy stores for three decades as the disco ball was on dance floors in the Seventies and Eighties. Beloved by school children, Barney, of Barney & Friends, conveyed educational messages through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, huggable and optimistic attitude. Dinosaurs dominated Earth for over 165 million years, and still dominate the imagination of scientists and children alike today. Martin Wilmott, owner of The Dinosaur Experience, has seen for himself both the wonder and delight children have for dinosaurs. A Londoner, Martin first came to Louisiana in 2009 for a Saints game. In 2013, he moved to Baton Rouge after marrying his wife, a Louisiana native. Martin began noticing children’s love for dinosaur themes while hosting water-slide and bounce house parties. Armed with his first dinosaur costume purchased from a specialty store in England, Martin began performing. The business exploded during COVID when he and his wife created a drive-around dinosaur show to cheer up children, growing his Facebook page from 400 followers to 10,000 in one month. Today, Martin is one of only a handful of dinosaur entertainers in the U.S., and the only one in Louisiana. He performs at birthday parties, school events, corporate events, and museums. He’s especially popular at libraries across multiple states. What’s striking about both of Alyssa and Martin is neither of them set out to “disrupt an industry.” They weren’t trying to invent trends. They were trying to solve human problems—loneliness, disconnection, stress, isolation—with experiences that feel safe, playful, and immersive. Alyssa has built a space where women don’t have to be impressive—they just have to show up. Martin has built a world where adults remember what it feels like to be amazed. And what I think they both remind us is that joy isn’t decorative. It’s functional. It heals. It rebuilds. It gives people permission to breathe. So whether it’s through dancing or dinosaurs, what Martin and Alyssa are really offering is the same thing: a moment where people feel seen, lighter, and less alone. And in today’s world, that’s not entertainment—that’s infrastructure. Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs on the Boulevard. Even during the lively era of the Marx Brothers' films at Paramount Pictures—featuring vaudevillian chaos like Horse Feathers and Duck Soup, or Mel Brooks parodies such as Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein—audiences had never experienced the overwhelming number of jokes like the ones in this 80s flick. These gags are so nonstop that the weaker ones don't even have time to linger. The film is packed with puns, pratfalls, provocations, interplay of foreground and background, double entendres, references to movies, TV shows, and commercials, along with random acts of silliness and absurdity, including many 'dad jokes'. So be sure to park in the red or white zone and purchase your smoking ticket, but don't eat the in-flight fish meal as Tim Williams and guest co-host Nicholas Pepin from "Pop Culture Roulette" discuss “Airplane!” From 1980 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback podcast! Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode:According to the Blu-ray commentary, the song "Stayin' Alive" was sped up by 10 percent for the movie's dance scene. Permission from The Bee Gees was required to speed it up.The filmmaking trio pitched the movie to Paramount as 'Animal House on a plane'—a misleading description, but a necessary tactic to sell the executives on the film's zany humor.Sources:Wikipedia, IMDBhttps://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/jul/02/airplane-film-40th-anniversary-spoof-comedySome sections were composed by ChatGPTWe'd love to hear your thoughts on our podcast! Stayin' Alive shows up with a name that sounds like it should be a whole soundtrack, and the vibe honestly matches, just not in the way people expect. This is Pure Plan's rosin badder, cold-cure style, and the genetic line is Disco Fries x Amnesia OG, which explains a lot about why it feels upbeat, chatty, and mentally switched on.  The first thing you notice is the flavor, because this one does not whisper. You called it guava with that fermented fruit twist, almost kombucha-adjacent, and that is dead on for how “funky-tropical” rosin can hit when it's done right.  It's not “gas” in the classic punch-you-in-the-face way, it's more like fruit got interesting and decided to become a personality. Then the effects come in clean and bright. Not super heady, not couch-glue, more “eyes open, brain curious.” You even clocked that little pressure in the cheeks and forehead, like your face is gently confirming we are, in fact, high right now.  The mood lane is calm, happy, relaxed, and slightly energetic, the kind of high where you suddenly want to be in community. This is the “phones in the basket” strain, the one that makes a living room feel like a hang again.  The one downside, especially at Beehive pricing, is the runtime. You were feeling 20 to 30 minutes and already thinking about another dab, which makes this feel a little too snackable for concentrate money.  Also worth saying out loud, if you overdo it, you said it can flirt with anxiety, but it passed quick. So, small dabs first, let it land, then decide if you want to climb.  For body relief, this wasn't your hero. You didn't rate it as a pain play, and it read more like social, creative, curious energy than deep physical melt.  If your goal is heavy relief, this is probably not the first jar you reach for. If your goal is to vibe, talk, laugh, watch something weird, or fall into a documentary rabbit hole like you're doing research for a PhD in Ancient Aliens, Stayin' Alive understands the assignment.  Genetics, Disco Fries x Amnesia OG.  THC about 78%, with CBG about 1.64%, treat as batch-specific to your jar.  Top terpenes , beta-caryophyllene 2.12%, myrcene 1.329%, limonene 1.019%, humulene 0.989%, linalool 0.367%.  Save on Dr Dabber with Code: Cannabisschool10Save on Storz & Bickel with Code : CannabisschoolSave on Santa Cruz Shredder with Code: CSP10Save on Bomb Erigs with Code: CSPScore 100 on your test

Matt Fanslow - Diagnosing the Aftermarket A to Z

Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech Training and Pico TechnologyWatch Full Video EpisodeIn this episode, Matt shares a personal Thanksgiving story that turned into a real medical emergency. A long-time family friend suddenly becomes unresponsive at the dinner table, and Matt walks through the moment he had to decide whether to act, despite not being “formally” current on CPR.He talks candidly about what it felt like to drag her to the floor, check for breathing, make the call to start chest compressions, hear ribs crack—and then watch her come back. From there, he connects the experience to life in an automotive shop: CPR and first-aid readiness, AEDs, fire extinguishers, panic, freezing, and why “somebody will know what to do” is not a plan. It's a conversation about preparedness, stress, and how our greatest weapon really is the thought we choose when everything suddenly goes sideways.Episode HighlightsOpening with the quote: “Our greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”Matt fighting a cold and joking about his “Nat King Cole” voice.Thanksgiving at his parents' house: Family and close friends gathered, including a 75-year-old family friend (“Jane”) who's been part of the family's holidays for years.Jane says she's really dizzy; Matt gets up to escort her to the living room. Her chin suddenly drops to her chest, she becomes unresponsive, cold, and clammy. The decision point:Matt checks for airway, tries to feel for a pulse, listens for breathing—only hears gurgling.Admits he doesn't fully trust his own ability to feel a pulse with his heart pounding. The mental calculus: If you can't be sure, what else is there to do but chest compressions?Starting chest compressions:Dragging her to the floor and focusing completely on her while the rest of the room “disappears.”Locking his elbows, using the beat of “Stayin' Alive” as a guide.First compression: feeling and hearing the sternum/ribs crack—and taking that as feedback that he's at the right depth. Before the second compression, her eyes fly open and she lets out a sound. The immediate emotional whiplash:First feeling isn't relief, but anger and self-doubt: “Did I just overreact?” “Did I crack her ribs for nothing?” “Was this some dramatic hero move I didn't need to make?”Reorienting to the reality that she was unresponsive and now is awake, talking, and oriented.EMS arrives:Very low blood pressure at the house (around 70/40).Hooked up to a 4-lead, showing atrial fibrillation with PVCs.Matt nerds out on the waveforms and explains AFib and PVCs in plain terms.EMTs jokingly ask if he's a doctor because of how well he reads the traces.Later imaging reveals:A cracked or stress-fractured sternum from compressions.Multiple blood clots in her lungs. The doctor tells her that sternum fractures are common with CPR and adds:Don't be mad at him — he saved your life. For Matt, the key relief is not the “hero” label, but confirmation that he did the right thing by acting.Connecting it back to shops and real life:Afterward, Matt starts calling around trying to set up CPR and first-aid training.Hard question: if he drops at the shop, who's going to act?Extending the concern beyond employees: what about customers?Preparedness checklist for shops:Is there an AED on-site, and does anyone actually know how to use it?Has anyone at the shop had recent CPR and first-aid training?Do...

For those of us who have experienced the gospel of abundant grace, it can be interesting to think back to the BG days (before grace). The Christian "religion" so often touts the need for believers in Christ to "do" things to maintain salvation and God's acceptance or approval ... while trying to work on finding the right combination of works to keep their faith alive. Bible verses get quoted with misapplied context and without people thinking them through. As the song says: Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk ... Well now, I get low and I get high ... Somebody help me ... Religion screams that we need to demonstrate an outward walk as some sort of proof of our belief. Paul emphasized that we walk by faith and not by sight. We are *gifted* with God's righteousness—justification—and salvation apart from works. It occurs by grace through faith. "Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness" (Roman 4:4-5). Let's confront the fear-based notion that faith is dead apart from works. If this were truly the case, it would require the application of grace plus law; and right standing with rules attached. It not only pushes people backwards and upside down to the time of their roller coaster Christianity during their BG days, but even further back to an obsolete covenant containing the impossible Mosaic law the Jewish people were under before the death and resurrection of Jesus. The faith that saves cannot be considered dead while salvation remains alive. They go hand in hand and cannot be separated. Religious legalists will suggest otherwise, but they fail to spell out precisely what works and exactly how much is required in the New Covenant in order to keep faith off of life support. While works can be an important part of our life in Christ, the good news is that the gospel and our eternal redemption is rooted in the finished work of Jesus Christ. --Available on Amazon - "Clash of The Covenants: Escaping Religious Bondage Through the Grace Guarantee" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713ZSKY7

GDP Script/ Top Stories for September 20th Publish Date: September 20th PRE-ROLL: From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, September 20th and Happy Birthday to Red Auerbach I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Suwanee Fest promises a dino-mite time this weekend Atlanta Gas Light Foundation and Goodr host free pop-up grocery market in Gwinnett Heart extends Royal Flush tour — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena in February Plus, the Stripers report with pitcher Davis Daniel All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: Suwanee Fest promises a dino-mite time this weekend  Suwanee Fest is going full Jurassic for its 41st anniversary this weekend, and honestly? It sounds like a blast. Kicking off Saturday at 9 a.m., the parade promises floats, costumes, and enough dinosaur vibes to make you feel like you’re in Jurassic Park. After that, Town Center Park transforms into a prehistoric playground—vendors selling everything from pottery to snacks, and a Family Fun Zone packed with fossil digs, science experiments, and even a baby dino hatching. New this year? The Youth on the Rise Tent, where young entrepreneurs (18 and under) show off their creativity. Plus, live music all weekend—NeXus Drumline, Stayin’ Alive Crew, and more. Don’t forget the photo booth for your dino-moment! STORY 2: Atlanta Gas Light Foundation and Goodr host free pop-up grocery market in Gwinnett On Sept. 12, the Atlanta Gas Light Foundation and Goodr teamed up to host a free Pop-Up Grocery Market at Shorty Howell Park in Duluth, and it was a lifeline for nearly 200 families. Volunteers handed out over 5,200 pounds of food—meat, fresh produce, dairy, bread, snacks, you name it. Enough to stock pantries for a week. But here’s the thing: food insecurity is still a massive issue in Georgia. In Gwinnett County alone, 12.2% of residents struggle to put food on the table. Goodr’s pop-up model? It’s fast, efficient, and, most importantly, respectful. Since 2021, Atlanta Gas Light has donated $400,000 to support Goodr’s mission to fight hunger and food waste. STORY 3: Heart extends Royal Flush tour — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena in February Heart’s still got it—Ann and Nancy Wilson aren’t slowing down anytime soon. Their “Royal Flush” tour? Yeah, it’s rolling right into 2026. They just dropped the news: first stop of the new leg? Gwinnett’s Gas South Arena, February 15. Mark your calendar. Thirteen dates, all over the South and Midwest. Some big arena shows, sure, but also these intimate “An Evening with Heart” gigs. Sounds like magic, doesn’t it? The whole thing wraps up March 15 in Fishers, Indiana. Oh, and Lucinda Williams? She’s tagging along for most of it. That’s a double bill you don’t wanna miss. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets 2 STRIPERS INTERVIEW Break 3: STORY 6: Georgia lawmakers, keen on abolishing income tax, hear from other states without one Georgia Republicans are doubling down on their push to eliminate the state income tax, but they’re drawing a line: no new taxes on groceries, housing, or gas. Sen. Blake Tillery, who’s also running for lieutenant governor—got a Republican-led study committee to agree on that much Wednesday. But here’s the catch: cutting the 5.19% income tax means lawmakers have to either slash the budget or find new revenue streams. Other states without income taxes, like Florida and Texas, lean heavily on sales taxes. Florida, for example, gets 75% of its revenue from a 6% sales tax. Not everyone’s sold. Sen. Nan Orrock, argued sales taxes hit low-income families hardest. But Republicans, like former Texas budget director Sarah Hicks, say businesses—and jobs—follow low taxes. Georgia’s already inching toward this goal, gradually lowering its income tax rate since 2022. The next hearing? October. STORY 7: Duluth High Student Kei Nagata Wins Prestigious Alexander Hamilton Scholar Award Duluth High’s Kei Nagata just snagged the prestigious Alexander Hamilton Scholar Award—an honor that screams leadership, grit, and heart. Out of nearly 800 applicants nationwide, only 26 students made the cut this year, and Kei’s one of them. The award, given by the Seattle-based Alexander Hamilton Scholars, isn’t just about a shiny title. It’s about mentorship, education, and the kind of determination Hamilton himself embodied—rising from poverty to greatness. Kei will join a tight-knit group of future changemakers, gaining access to internships, leadership training, and $1,000 in scholarships. Story at-a-glance Survival rates for cardiac arrest victims go down by 10% with each minute of delay Only 42% of bystanders perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in public settings despite over 350,000 Americans experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) annually Hands-only CPR (100 to 120 compressions per minute, 2 inches deep) is recommended for untrained bystanders, while health care workers should use the 30-to-2 compression-to-breath ratio Immediate actions during cardiac arrest include calling emergency services, locating an automated external defibrillator if available, and beginning CPR promptly without hesitation Heart attacks (arterial blockages affecting blood flow) differ from cardiac arrest (electrical problem causing arrhythmia), though heart attacks sometimes lead to cardiac arrest
