Today's case takes us to Redmond, Oregon to discuss an extremely messy and senseless case that shows just how dangerous “mob mentality” can be. But it's also a case that shows us why youth offenders are treated differently. Because, as we know, our brains don't fully develop until our mid-20s. I started this podcast a couple years ago with the slogan, "Bettering the World, One Attitude at a Time"... That is more than just a mission statement for me, that has become one of my central purposes in life. Why you might ask? In many ways, it's because I see our world, but more specifically our country, has in certain ways become broken. What can we do if our country 's political system is broken? In addition to doing the Derate the Hate podcast, I have become quite involved with the organization Braver Angels. Braver Angels has become one of the country's leading organizations working to depolarize and mend our social fabric. As I began to hear more about the latest initiative that Braver Angels was working on, Braver Politics, I wanted to know more. I thought who better to reach out to than my friends Rick and Barbara! How can I engage without being enraged?Would you like to become more involved in the political discussion, without becoming part of and enraged shouting match that accomplishes nothing? Take a listen to my conversation with my friends Rick Hotchner and Barbara Thomas, (who you may remember from Episode 48) where we are discussing Braver Politics... Let me know what you think! What have you done today to make your life a better life? What have you done today to make the world a better place? The world is a better place if we are better people, and that begins with each of us leading a better life. Be kind to one another, be grateful for everything you've got, and make each and every day the day that you want it to be!Please follow The Derate The Hate podcast on Facebook, MeWe, Instagram, Twitter . In this last and final Episode of Season 1 dealing with contracting I discuss one of the strangest and funniest government job interviews at HUD (U.S. Housing and Urban Development in DC) and with an all black panel of Senior Executive Service members, of which, Barbara Thomas, the sister of Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas was one of the board members. It is hilarious and strange job promotion interviews I ever had in my entire federal career. It also points out the fact that certain federal agencies in Washington, DC are far too racially heavy than what they should be--which is more diverse. ENJOY 4eTNlX3pn5j1sd0qhj3H
Barbara Thomas is a lifelong liberal. Rick Hotchner is a committed conservative. As a couple, they are one of a dwindling number of politically mixed marriages between Democrats and Republicans in America. They made a life-changing decision last summer to leave a diplomatic post abroad to depolarize America—one divided relationship at a time. How do they stand each other when they can't stand each other's politics? What tips and tricks have they learned to always disagree but rarely argue? And what did they do when, during the run-up to the 2020 election, they didn't speak to each other for days? Tune in as host Mónica Guzmán leads a frank and open conversation with a fascinating couple whose enduring relationship is a model for our country. US Diplomat, Barbara Thomas spent 20 years serving overseas in Latin America and Europe, as well as several posts in Washington DC. She made the decision to retire last year because she felt there was a lot of work to be done back home in the U.S.She was particularly concerned about the bitter divisiveness and increasingly toxic political discourse. She came home because she wanted to find a way to be part of turning that tide. Barbara talks with Dr. Good about that journey, the work she’s doing now to combat polarization, and how we can help.

Evolve! Nurturing the New in Consciousness, the Arts, and Culture hosted by : Robin White Turtle Lysne, M.A., M.F.A., Ph.D. Evolve! brings you people and ideas on the cutting edge of change opening the shells of the past to move our culture into the now. We are all in great need of sustainable ideas for change. The arts and evolving consciousness are how we are bringing that change to the culture at large. This show will bring you the wise, the foolish and the heart-based to help us meet the challenges of the times we are in. This month my guest is Barbara Thomas, author, artist and exemplar of the New Age and how to live with all the different realms that exist in this world. At age 80, Barbara began an adventure on her property in the Santa Cruz Mountains, that led her to write her new book, Living with the Spirits of the Land, A Spiritual Memoir. While the journey began many years before in Southern California, after her husband Jim passed away, she was given a new work to be done, recording the wisdom from the Faerie world. As a friend and mentor to your host, I hope you listen to the show with an open mind, and more importantly a willing heart.
