Hour 1 Audio from WGIG-AM and FM in Brunswick, GA
Three months on, could Syria slide back into civil war? In the Alawite bastion of ousted president Bashar al-Assad, the bloodiest week in years with attacks and revenge killings of civilians that the new masters of Damascus are scrambling to contain. Why did the Mediterranean coast region erupt? What triggered it? And what's the next move by new strongman Ahmed al-Sharaa? The jihadist militia leader who's traded in his fatigues for a suit and promised the outside world justice and respect for minority rights. Enough for the West to begin a desperately-needed easing of sanctions. Have the likes of the European Union moved too slowly or too fast? And how will al-Sharaa navigate between his own alliance of forces that include Turkey-backed militias which contributed to the overthrow of Assad but could pose a threat to the central authority in Damascus, the US-backed Kurds who want federalism, and the Russians who want to keep their Mediterranean bases? Not to mention Israel, which rejected overtures of détente and for the moment occupies more land in the Golan HeightsProduced by François Picard, Rebecca Gnignati, Elisa Amiri, Ilayda Habip.
This could be a challenging year so we start out by pondering things we use to keep our world and our lives together. For instance duct tape. Is sort of like prayer and meditation we use it in all kinds of situations and paper clips can do a lot as well.
When D-day arrives and elite athletes are about to jump into the arena, trying to compensate for the missed training sessions during the preparation process is pointless. Their success will depend only on their consistency in the previous months. It is the same for social entrepreneurs regarding our spiritual and mental readiness. The only difference is that we never know when life will throw us onto the field and make us play the biggest game of our lives.Today, we talk about how to keep it together when life hits us with a two-by-four. Last Autumn, what started as a routinary rotator cuff surgery in one of my husband's shoulders developed into a rare condition that not only threatened his life but caused him tons of excruciating pain. Unexpectedly, life forced us to put our lives on hold and pushed us into the arena with no other weapons than our love, faith, and the tools we forged in the good times.Tune in and listen to the sixty-first episode of Avant-garde Entrepreneur. You'll hear about my experiences as a caregiver, the lessons learned during these difficult times, the five things that helped me the most to keep it together during this massive crisis, and much more.In This Episode, You Will Learn:How ready are we to eat our own cooking? (1:50)That moment when life shows us who is in charge of things (4:00)The benefits of going small and delegating (13:10)Value your quiet time (15:20)The power of meditation and focusing on what we want to feel, not what we're going through (18:30)Trust your team (21:00)Never underestimate the massive power of gratitude (23:20)Resources:My new book! 12/15/24 message from Pastor Ralph Royea You are Family at Touch Heaven and you are loved. There is a song that sings, "Love will keep us together." This time of year, use every resource the Father gives you to "keep it together," and realize to someone else, that it is your text, your call, your voice, your touch, your love, that helps them "Keep It Together." - P. Ralph John 13:34-35, 34) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35) By this all will know that you are My disciples if you have love for one another.

Frontman Ryan Miller joins us to talk about all things Guster. From their tried and true collaborative writing process to the theatrical delights of their recent "We Also Have Eras" tour, to what it really looks like to make environmental sustainability a priority on tour. Guster has just released their 9th studio album, Ooh La La. As we talked about the new record, Ryan talked about how these new songs touch on questions that the band has been asking throughout their over 30 year career. For example, "Maybe We're Alright" calls back to the collectivist spirit that we loved in 2003's Keep It Together. "Gaugin, Cezanne (Everlasting Love)" talks about God in a way that brought up new questions for me about 2010's album, Easy, Wonderful, and so on. This is what makes being a Guster fan so rewarding. The longer you listen to these guys and the deeper you dig, the more you feel empowered to ask questions about the world around you and approach the answers with playfulness. Guster is a band, but it is also a place where we all meet to dance away the big questions with whimsy to the beat of tasteful hand drums. It is no exaggeration to say that lizzie has waited over 20 years to talk to Ryan. They became a fan of the New England indie outfit in 2003 when they opened for John Mayer at the West Point Military Academy, of all places. The vibe in the room was a little stiff, but Guster was anything but. Their exuberant, generous, harmony filled, idiosyncratic performance blew her teenage mind. As lizzie dug deeper into their lore, they discovered that they were a part of a vast network of weirdos: The Guster fandom. All of us will face times of difficulty, stress, and disappointment. Some of those will be quite extreme (like Esther's), while others will be more routine (like Haman's). But not all of us will handle those situations with the same poise, grace, and rootedness. What makes the difference? How can we become people who remain steady, even when everything around us is crashing down? This week, we'll look at the differences between Esther and Haman and find what helped Esther navigate her extreme circumstances so admirably.

Do we really have to hold it all together? So many of us walk around with the pressure to contain, maintain, manage life without ever stopping to inquire about whether we actually have that power in the first place. When believing this story, we have to imagine a future where something terrible happens if we don't keep it all going. Yet, the nature of this reality is that everything comes to pass not to stay which puts us in an impossible position. As Byron Katie says, when we fight against reality we will lose — 100% of the time. Yet, when we notice what we're believing on top of reality and question it — we begin to trust and flow with the great mystery of life.

I heard a song this week and I thought of you! For those of you who are struggling with how the pain of grief is trying to steal your hope, today's episode is for you! It's no revelation that success is the sum of preparation and opportunity, yet it's always inspiring to witness the philosophy in action. On today's podcast episode, San Diego-based painter Ezra Brown joins host and NOT REAL ART founder Scott “Sourdough” Power to chat about the power of perseverance in an oversaturated industry. “I'm a late bloomer,” says Ezra, who dropped his day job during the pandemic to focus on a career in fine art. “I've been [painting] for such a long time, and I had been waiting for my opportunity to hit,” he tells Scott, adding, “In this day and age, you've got to do what makes you happy.”Ironically, Ezra's signature character, a vintage-style cartoon called Happy the Clown, is anything but. Starring as the protagonist in Ezra's recent show at LA's ThinkSpace Projects, Trying to Keep It Together, Happy drinks, smokes, and cries as his house burns, his soul leaves his body, and his girlfriend leaves him. Like many artists before him, Ezra encourages viewers to access and cope with their own emotions as he puts Happy through the wringer. “I'm tired of the norm ... just watching art on a wall, walking away from it, having a drink, and forgetting about it,” Ezra says. “I'm creating an experience that somebody's going to remember and talk about for the rest of their life.” In the episode, Scott and Ezra chat about humanizing classic iconography to access raw emotions. They also cover the pitfalls of parenthood, the dangers of social media, and Ezra's recent collaboration with collectible toy company Tenacious Toys. Tune in to the episode below to hear about Ezra's creative success, and the dedication it took to get there. “You have to make those sacrifices,” he says, “and put in the extra work.”In Today's Podcast EpisodeEzra Brown discusses…How the pandemic bolstered his fine art careerWhy people connect with his raw, emotional, often funny worksHis instinct to challenge the status quo and create memorable experiencesHow his father, also an artist, inspired his creative careerThe exaggerated narratives portrayed on social media and national newsThe challenge of being a parent in the age of social mediaThe surprising overlap between the fine art and the collectible toy marketsThe recent explosion of experiential and immersive artThe many benefits of perseverance, fortitude, and determinationFor more information, please visit http://notrealart.com/ezra-brown

The project management podcast by project managers for project managers brought to you by Velociteach PMP exam prep. Culture expert Colin D Ellis talks about in-office culture, remote culture, as well as hybrid culture, and how we can shift our mindset from where we work to how we work. Hear about managing team culture and creating a space for safety where everybody succeeds. And so it's crucially important that managers fundamentally understand what the differences are, what the risks are, but also what the opportunities are so that they can do it properly. WENDY GROUNDS: Welcome to Manage This, the podcast by project managers for project managers. My name is Wendy Grounds, and we're talking with Colin D. Ellis. And Colin has been a guest of ours in the past. On Episode 89, Keys to Success and Being a Good Human, Colin joined us from Melbourne, Australia. And he's joining us again today. Colin has more than 20 years' experience building and leading teams in public and private sector organizations. And he just loves helping people to be their best selves and bring that to work each day. We're going to be talking to him about company culture. There's been so many changes in company culture over the last couple of years. And so we're going to address in-office culture, remote culture, as well as hybrid culture and how we can shift our mindset from where we work to how we work. Colin and Bill are both joining us via Skype today. Hi, Colin. Welcome back to Manage This. It's so good to have you back. COLIN ELLIS: Thank you, Wendy. It's lovely to be back. WENDY GROUNDS: What have you been doing in the interim, since we last spoke to you? What's happening in your life? COLIN ELLIS: Oh, I mean, where do you even start? It was like, things have been pretty normal, I haven't really done anything. Yeah, things have been just a little bit crazy. I think like everybody else in the pandemic, especially those people who work for themselves, there was that period of uncertainty right at the start, like, oh. What do we do about developing our staff? Let's just put everything on hold. And that was, you know, the way it was for me. We dealt with some pretty severe COVID issues back with our family in the U.K. And we kind of got through that. And then all of a sudden the work came roaring back. I think for someone like me, who does a lot of work in workplace culture and still keep my hand in in the project management world, I think what COVID did was really shine a light on either some of the things that were broken within cultures or else some of the things that just needed to be tweaked to make sure that people could keep delivering and keep being as productive as they can be. So, you know, what's changed in the sense that I did more virtual work than I've ever done before, but I was well set up for it, so that was a relatively easy transition. And just enjoying being back amongst people again. Defining Team Culture WENDY GROUNDS: Well, we want to dig into talking about company culture, and you were the person we thought would be an expert to give us some great advice. But before we head into talking about company culture, could you give us just a really good definition?
