Biblical Exposition of Scripture from a Biblical Point of View

Jesus, in submission to his parents, lived life growing in wisdom and strength and the grace of God was upon Him.Then Luke gives us a record of Jesus as a child of 12 going to Jerusalem for the passover. And instead of returning home to Nazareth, He stayed in Jerusalem ministering His Father's business in the temple. Jesus astounded the religious leaders with His questions and answers. But Mary and Joseph were distressed, thinking He was lost in the city, they found Him in temple. Jesus was the center of attention from both his parents and the religious leaders.Jesus should be the focus of our attention, affection and faith. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Luke 2:39, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this study, we now meet a man by the name of Simeon who was promised by God that he would not die until he had seen the Lord's Messiah, that is, Jesus as a baby. The Holy Spirit was upon him. This man also blessed God with a song. His song revealed that this child, Jesus, the Lord's Messiah, would be a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for the glory of God's people Israel. Our Lord is the focus of his song. Does your song focus on and feature the Lord Jesus preeminently? It blesses God who is our audience. Not only Simeon but also Anna, a widow, came into the temple and giving thanks to God, began speaking to all those around her about this Jesus.Let's turn to Lk.2:25 with Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study in the Gospel of Luke continues in chapter 2 starting in verse 11 with the shepherd's visit to the place where Jesus was born. As we have heard, they were divinely directed there by the angel who announced to them the birth of the Savior and how to identify him. They didn't waste any time in traveling into Bethlehem to see this baby and they found Him lying in a manger, just as the angel had told them. God's word is always true. This visit caused Mary to treasure up and ponder all these things in her heart. Luke also goes on to write about Jesus' presentation in the temple where He is formally called by the name “Jesus” which the angel previously told both Mary and Joseph. With Jesus' birth on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast here is Dr. Mitchell, Luke 2:11-25.

Each Christmas we hear and read of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this study, Luke 2:1, we hear of Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem where her child would be born into a humble family in a humble location and first seen by a few humble shepherds. As we begin, Dr. Mitchell explains a bit of background to this time frame when Christ was born, stating that God is always on time. The king on a throne of authority in a country far away from Israel was used of God to orchestrate the circumstances for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The book of Daniel states “the Most High is ruler over all nations.” (Dan.5:21)But, Jesus is born and laid in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. Here is Dr. Mitchell with Jesus' birth on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast beginning in Luke 2:1.

Our studies in the Gospel of Luke resume in chapter 1 beginning at verse 67. Luke provides us an inspired account of both the birth of John the Baptist and of Jesus Himself. When John the Baptist was born, his Father Zachariah filled with the Spirit prophesies. He refers to God's fulfillment of His Word through the former prophets by the birth of his son John the Baptist. He also speaks that his son John would be a prophet of the Most High to provide four things. 1st, He would go before the Savior to prepare His ways. 2ndly, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of sins. 3rdly, to give light to those who sit in darkness4th & lastly, to guide our feet in the way of peace.Let hear more about John, Luke 1:67, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with Dr. Mitchell.

After Mary visited Elizabeth and received confirmation of what the angel had told her, she would now extol and bless and magnify the LORD. We are reading Luke 1:46-66. Mary extols the LORD for His fulfilled promise to Israel first spoken to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. She praised the Lord for His mercy, His strength and His might. She expressly rejoiced in her spirit calling the Lord, "God my savior." Here she acknowledges her need for a savior as all who know that sin has made them a people of humble circumstances. Dr. Mitchell says of Mary, “her heart was fully occupied with the Lord.” Are you and I occupied with the Lord Jesus and His finished work for us?Let open our Bibles and turn to Luke 1 verse 46 with our teacher, Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Luke chapter 1 verse 34 the angel Gabriel answers Mary's question as to how she a virgin could bear a baby since although she was betrothed she was not yet married and had no husband. The author of Hebrews chapter 13 verse 4 the author reminds us 'let marriage be held in honor among all and the marriage bed undefiled for God will judge immorality and adultery'. This was Mary's attitude towards marriage just as Joseph's was found in Matthew chapter 1. Dr. Mitchell looks at the scriptures dealing with the birth of Jesus in Matthew chapter 1 concerning Joseph as well. Now here in Luke 1 verse 38 we see Mary's faith in what God had said would take place and she waited for his fulfillment. Then the Lord is gracious to give Mary an encouraging confirmation of His words found in Verses 39 through 45.Well let's join Dr Mitchell here in Luke chapter 1 verse 34 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

As we are going to read, this angel Gabriel is sent once again from God to bring a message to a young woman who was a virgin in a city named Nazareth of Galilee. We are in Luke chapter 1:26. Just like Zachariah, Mary too was troubled by the presence of the angel. But Gabriel quieted her fear with comforting words of grace. He would tell her about the son she would bear. He gave her his Name, His Position, His Power, and the means of His birth. As we learn, the Name Jesus means Jehovah saves. His name derives from the Hebrew word Jehosua, or Joshua which means the same thing, the great I AM, YaWeH saves.Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Luke 1:26 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast as he shares the good news of Jesus Christ.

We are in the gospel of Luke chapter 1 verses 14 through 25.You will note that the angel Gabriel does most of the speaking in this passage as he spoke to Zachariah the priest in the temple. Dr. Mitchell will look at the prophecy from the the angel Gabriel concerning the son who would be born to Zachariah and his wife Elizabeth. There are several things said about this boy whose name would be John. Dr. Mitchell goes on to look at the results of the forthcoming ministry of this man John the Baptist as told by the angel. Do you ever pray to the Lord and when He answers you have doubts about it? Zachariah did. He wondered how this birth could be given their age. Let's find out with Dr. Mitchell in Luke 1:14-25 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Luke now begins writing about a priest and his wife, Zachariah and Elizabeth, who were both righteous in the sight of God, Luke 1:5-14.It is what God sees that is most important. When you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work at the cross and resurrection, God sees you as righteous in His sight. This is good news.Luke then, gives us the time frame, the names of the people, and their situation before God and before people. They had no children and they were both old and had been praying for a child. When the angel Gabriel came to Zachariah, the priest, he gives him the answer to their prayer. They would have a boy. His name would be called John. His birth would bring joy to them and to many.Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Luke 1:5 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

As I read through these first four verses of Luke, I hear Luke addressing the “most excellent Theophilus”. His is a Greek name and he must have been in a position of authority or at least a man of some publicly recognized stature. Theophilus, who according to the text, had been verbally taught about the life of Christ. Now, Luke is writing to him to give him a written account of what he had previously heard and been taught. They can now refer back to its truth and accuracy and not forget it.Even though others had previously written, Luke deemed it appropriate to write an orderly account of the life of Jesus on earth although he himself was not personally present with Christ in those days.Dr. Mitchell begins our study in the Gospel of Luke 1:1-4.

Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast as we commence a journey through the Gospel of Luke with our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell who is finishing up his overview of this gospel. His aim is for us to fall in love with the savior, Jesus Christ. Our Lord is presented in this gospel as the lovely one who is precious and chosen in the sight of God His Father.Dr. Mitchell brings out the fact that from all the Gospels we see Jesus raising 3 people from the dead. Two of the three are found here in Luke. The other is in John.Jesus demonstrates His power over death even before His own resurrection from the dead.Let's join our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast to finish up this overview of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke.

The Gospel of Luke will be the starting point of our study as Dr. Mitchell gives us an overview and exhortation from this Gospel.First of all, he gives us a short overview of several chapters of Luke to show how the savior is a man among men.Jesus is proclaimed as one who is a friend of tax gatherers and sinners. Jesus read from the book of Isaiah from which He declared that He was anointed by the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel to the poor, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.Let's join our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast to give us an overview of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast begins a new series on the Gospel of Luke. Dr. Mitchell will be giving 3 lessons in overview comparing and contrasting the four Gospels before beginning his exposition of the Gospel of Luke. Each writer presents the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ from his divinely revealed perspective and focus as to who this Jesus of Nazareth is. So to begin Dr. Mitchell looks at the contrasts between Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each gospel writer was inspired of God to write without error God's revelation to him concerning this Jesus. Matthew writes to Jewish believers. Mark writes to Roman gentiles. Luke writes to a gentile Greek believer named Theophilus. John writes to everyone that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast,Luke 1 Introduction.

Dr. Mitchell reviews Mark 16:15-20 in this concluding lesson in the Gospel of Mark. Here the risen Lord presents the great commission when He told the disciples to go into the all world and preach the gospel.Verse 16 has taken to be a scriptural proof of the necessity of baptism in order to be saved. Let it be firmly stated that only faith in the the Lord Jesus Christ alone is necessary to be saved.Anything added to faith in Christ is not Biblical and will not save anyone. The Lord Jesus was received up into heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father where our Lord Jesus Christ intercedes and prays for those who trust Him. (Heb 7:25)By this ministry, He keeps believers completely saved forever. This is the grace of God in action! Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 16:15. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell continues in Mark 16 verses 12-15.Here Dr. Mitchell reviews what happened with the women at the tomb. Also, Mary Magdalene stayed behind and was looking for a dead Christ, but she was met with the Living Lord Jesus Christ. Then the Lord appeared to two others, who went they recognized Him, reported to the others as well.Jesus, later, appeared to 11 disciplesFrom 1Cor.15, the apostle Paul records and verifies appearances of the Lord Jesus to believers only after His physical resurrection from out of the dead. There were many and varied witnesses to the risen Christ both public and private and in various locations. Dr. Mitchell shares a personal experience he had with some headhunters in the Philippines where he had an opportunity to share with them the gospel of our risen Lord Jesus Christ. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 16:12 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We now enter the last chapter of the Gospel of Mark, chapter 16.Mark writes of 3 women who were early risers and went to the tomb with spices to anoint the body of Jesus. It then occurred to them that the stone would need to be rolled away. But when they arrived at the tomb, it had already been rolled away. Entering into the tomb, they were met with the sight of a young man, an angel, dressed in a white robe.He tells them to not be afraid. He knew why they were there, but he told them Jesus is not here, He has risen. The angel gave them instructions to go and tell the disciples and Peter that they would see Jesus in Galilee. Here is Dr. Mitchell with the risen Christ, Mark 16:1, on theUnchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We continue in Mark 15 verses 38-47.Here our Lord, having died, Mark records that the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom. This points to its divine origin. This veil was at least 4” thick and very heavy. Our Lord died crying out with a loud voice, not a weak one. The roman centurion, in seeing and hearing Him, made this confession “Truly, this man was the Son of God”. How did this soldier hear that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Later in this passage, we see Joseph of Arimathea, asking for the body of Jesus in order to bury Jesus in his own new tomb also recorded in Matthew 27:57-60.Our Lord's burial fulfilled Isaiah 53:9 He “was with a rich man in His death..” In Mark 15:38, here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

It was the 6th hour, noon by Jewish reckoning, darkness covered the whole land. Jesus is on the cross.Mark records that at the 9th hour, that is 3pm, Jesus cried out to God asking why He had forsaken Him, quoting Psalm 22:1.Dr. Mitchell gives us the benefit of the death of Christ found in Romans 3:24-26.Jesus became and still is the propitiation for our sins because of His blood poured out at the cross. In so doing, God's righteousness was vindicated and now God is free to righteously forgive sins in mercy without compromising His holiness. Not only that, the one who believes in this Lord Jesus Christ, God can now justly declare as saved from those sins for all time and eternity. Is this not the best news? Here is Dr. Mitchell with the good news of Jesus Christ, Mark 15:33-38 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, .

We are now in Mark 15:25-32, Mark recording the events surrounding the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. An inscription written on a board nailed atop the cross proclaimed Jesus, “The King of the Jews.” The crucifixion began at 9 o'clock in the morning. Here Jesus was crucified between two thieves, one on the left and the other on the right. Jesus thus fulfilled Isaiah 53:12, “He was numbered with the transgressors.” Dr. Mitchell points out the Savior's obedience to the Father. He took on Himself all the sins of the whole world from the beginning of time till the end of time. He has even taken upon Himself your sin and mine for all time and eternity. Have you received this blessed Savior as your own? Here is Dr. Mitchell as we see Jesus, Mark 15:25 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

This lesson begins in Mark 15:1. Dr. Mitchell reviews the first 14 verses. Here Jesus is before the civil court of Pilate who asked the Jewish leaders, What evil has He done? Then we continue in verse 15. Here Pilate wanted to please the crowd so he released a murder, Barabbas, and delivered Jesus to be crucified. What follows is the scene when the soldiers mocked Jesus and beat Him with a reed and unnecessarily slapped His face repeatedly. Dr. Mitchell brings out several O.T. scriptures fulfilled by our Lord's crucifixion, Ps.22 and Isa.53 and Psalm 69. While on the way to Golgotha, the soldier commandeered a man to help carry Jesus' cross, Simon of Cyrene. Our Lord, on the cross, refused to drink the wine mixed with myrrh, a drug used to deaden the pain. Here is Dr. Mitchell Mark 15:1 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study begins in Mark 14:65 and since Dr. Mitchell already spoke on Peter's 6 steps downward to denial in this section, Dr. Mitchell will proceed on to Mark 15:1.Dr. Mitchell shares the distinction between these two trials. The first was before an ecclesiastical court of the Jews. This next court is a civil court before Pontius Pilate. The first trial had to do with Jesus' person when He was asked if He was the Messiah the son of the Blessed One. Our Lord acknowledged, He Is.This next trial is a civil trial court and has to do with Jesus' character. Remember how Pilate said to the Jews, “What evil has He done?” in verse 14.What do you say about Jesus Christ?Let's turn to Mark 14:65 to begin. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this lesson, Mark 14:53-64, Mark records Jesus before the council. Here the Lord is subject to a fake trial. This is a most solemn occasion in our Lord's life. The Sanhedrin, you will notice, had already decided the verdict they wanted against Jesus. They tried to find any witnesses who would testify against Christ. It says, there were many false witnesses. Then two false witnesses said they heard Jesus say that He would destroy the temple and in three days build another. To see how far off these words were from the truth, read John 2:19.The Lord Jesus remained silent up until the high priest asked him directly if He was the Messiah. Jesus said, “I AM”.Turn with us to Mark 14:53. Dr. Mitchell tells us about Jesus' trial.Your listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We now enter into a passage that shows the Savior in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane. The Lord expressed His deep sorrow of soul at the prospect of dying on the cross. Dr. Mitchell quotes Hebrews 5:7 where it is witnessed that Jesus prayed with loud cries and tears to His Father to ask for deliverance from out of death and He was heard. Here in the garden our Lord said the Scriptures, concerning Him, must be fulfilled. To fulfill what Jesus quoted in verse 27, they all left Him and fled. Here also, Dr. Mitchell gives the 6 steps downward of Peter up to the point of his denial of the Lord.Let's open our Bible to Mark 14:32.Dr. Mitchell shows us our Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane in prayer.Your listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Now in Mark 14:26-41 Mark gives us Jesus and His disciples in the garden of Gethsemane below the Mount of Olives. Here our Lord gives to His disciples the Scripture from Zechariah 13:7 that the shepherd will be struck and the sheep would be scattered. But He gives them this hope, that after He is raised He would go before them to Galilee. Here Peter voices his allegiance to the Lord Jesus in all earnestness. And Jesus tells Peter of his coming denial. According to Luke 22:31-32 Jesus prayed for Peter's faith that it would not fail. Peter would fail, but his faith did not. Our Lord prays submitting Himself to the will of His Father. With Dr. Mitchell, let's turn to Mark 14:26 with Jesus in the garden of Gesthsemane. Your listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Now we continue with Jesus and His disciples in the upper room during this last passover of our Lord Jesus Christ before He was crucified. Our Bible is open to Mark 14:22-25.In these verses Mark writes Jesus' words concerning the meaning of the bread and cup of which they were about to partake.Dr. Mitchell brings out the fact that it is not our value we place on the blood of Christ, but the value that God places on the blood of Christ. The Lord's supper is a remembrance of a person, the person of the Lord Jesus Christ God in the flesh, the God-Man who died for our sins and rose again on our behalf. Here in Mark 14:22 is Dr. Mitchell with our sole ground for our redemption in the Lord Jesus Christ on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

With you Bible open to Mark 14:10 through 21. In these verses, we see Mark's focus on one Judas Iscariot for two verses. Here he describes the arrangements being made by Judas with the chief priests to betray the Lord Jesus. As a note: The other disciples referred to Jesus as Lord. Only Judas referred to Jesus as teacher as read in Matthew 26:21-25.Dr. Mitchell takes up the passover and it's meaning. It was an annual feast to be observed from generation to generation as a remembrance of an event.Dr. Mitchell then states that Jesus Christ is our passover. The Jewish passover was to remember an event. The Lord's supper, or communion is the remembrance of Christ's person. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.Dr. Mitchell, Mark 14:10 presents our omniscient Lord Jesus Christ, our passover.

Open your Bible to Mark 14:3. Our study will take us through verse 9.In these verses, we see Jesus dining in the house of a man named Simon. While there, an unnamed woman came to Jesus and anointed our Lord with some very expensive perfume. Now there was a reaction to this. Some of those present grumbled that that pure and expensive perfume could have been sold and given to the poor. They neglected to observe the devotion of heart and priority of worship to the Savior Himself. Isn't Jesus to have first place in everything? Our Lord defends her and her expensive sacrificial devotion. Even if you are unknown, God knows your heart, devotion and sacrifice to the Savior Himself. God is not unjust so as to forget. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 14:3-9 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

This study begins in Mark 14 verse 1. Dr. Mitchell gives a short overview of the chapter before going into the first three verses. Right away we read of the plot of the rulers of the people against Jesus, to put Him to death. But they did not want to do this during the feast which might cause an uproar among the people who were there. Dr. Mitchell points out that Jesus set the time of His death and the manner of His death. He was in control of His fulfilling what was written of Him in the Scriptures. We then hear a short overview of the next verses about Jesus in Bethany. Let's open our Bible to Mark 14:1. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with the beginning of the end of our Lord' life on earth.

We will finish up Mark chapter 13 with verses 30-37. What stands out in this passage is the fact of the abiding Word of God. Jesus said, the heavens and the earth will pass away but, He said, ‘My words will not pass away.' God's Word will endure for all eternity. Ps.119 says, “Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.”Our Lord gives everyone a command to Be alert. As Dr. Mitchell says, The coming of the Lord is certain but the time of His coming is uncertain. The need to be on the alert is emphasized by the Lord to His disciples by means of parable. This parable pictures a man going away and the servants of his house and the door keeper are to be watching for his return. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 13:30.This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We now pick up from where we left off in our last lesson. We are in Mark 13:24-30.Dr. Mitchell will be examining the words of our Lord Jesus who describes His coming again back to the earth from heaven in power and great glory.Dr. Mitchell compares and contrasts Jesus' first coming with His second coming. He states you can either meet the Lord as your savior or you will meet Him as your judge. Have you met the Lord Jesus Christ yet? Just come and talk to Him and let Him know you would like to meet Him personally. He will meet you where you are just as you are. There is a difference between the times of the Gentiles and the fullness of the Gentiles. Our teacher, Dr. Mitchell, explains more in Mark 13:24 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Mark 13 we look at verses 24-26.In these 3 verses, Jesus speaks of the time after the tribulation. Here He describes the disruption of the heavens including the sun, the moon, stars and the powers of heaven. It will be a time of deep dark blackness. At the culmination of this period of time, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself will come from heaven as the Son of Man, coming in the clouds with great power and glory. His will be a bright and unmistakable display of His glory. No one on earth, in seeing Him, can avoid Him.In verse 27, Jesus will send forth His angels to collect His elect Jewish believers to Himself wherever they are scattered.Let's turn to Mark 13:24 with Dr. Mitchell to hear Jesus' words concerning His coming again. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Mark 13:14-23 our study continues.Jesus is describing things to come to 4 of His disciples, Peter, James, John and Andrew. In these verses our Lord speaks of the portion of time when an idol is set up in the temple. This incident was first spoken of by Daniel the prophet. Dr. Mitchell will explore this more in depth. This time is called the great tribulation which is described by many of the Old Testament prophets as the day of the LORD. Here Jesus refers to this 7 year period of time, which John later writes about in the book of Revelation 6-19 in great detail. The church will not be there then at all.Although the tribulation is worldwide in scope, it centers on the physical nation of Israel in particular and their deliverance from it.Let's hear what Jesus says with Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Mark 13:14.

Study in the Gospel of Mark continues in chapter 13. Here Jesus gives us an overview of things to come. In this lesson, verses 1-13, we find 4 disciples sitting with Jesus on the Mount of Olives.Dr. Mitchell points out: Persecution is less in the US and Canada but it is changing during this present generation, not against religion but against the savior, against our love for Him and against the gospel of the grace of God. Here in the 21st century, Dr. Mitchell makes reference to the 20th century. Here we are in another year of this twenty-first century with the Unchanging Word of God. It is still trustworthy, intact and able to minister to this current generation revealing the Person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Mark 13:1

We finish up Mark 12 in verse 35. Our Lord Jesus Christ uses scripture to question His enemies. He put them, theologically and intellectually on the horns of dilemma, between the Rock and a hard place. How can the Messiah be both King David's Lord and yet be David's son? That is, how can the Messiah be both the root of and fruit of David at the same time? Do you know? The Lord gives a warning to the people. Beware of men which desire to be great. Our Lord next brings us a commendation. He watched a poor widow in the temple treasury put in all the money she had to live on. This shows two things.1st The absolute devotion and sacrifice to the Lord.2nd The yoke of bondage imposed by the religious system on the people. Here is Dr. Mitchell. Mark 12:35. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell continues in Mark 12:23 with the Sadducees confronting Jesus. Their hypothetical situation was so construed as to deprecate the resurrection of the body by the living God. These Sadducees are likened to the theological liberals of this present generation. As Mark writes, Jesus said they were in error because they did not know the Scriptures nor the power of the living God. God is the God of the living, not of the dead. Then Jesus is asked by a discerning scribe what is the greatest commandment of the law. After Jesus answered this sincere request, the man recognized the real intent and spirit of the law.The Lord Jesus recognized the heart and mind of this Scribe. He was near to the kingdom of God in his understanding. Here is Dr. Mitchell. Mark 12:23. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study resumes in Mark 12:13. Another trap is set for the Lord Jesus. Three groups band together trying to trap the Lord Jesus in a statement. These were the Pharisees, the Herodians and the Sadducees. Dr. Mitchell gives us an insightful examination of these confrontations. He first takes the Pharisees and then the Herodians, who were in opposition to one another normally, but were now united against Christ. Mark writes that Jesus knew their hypocrisy and put them to a test with a coin. Then later the Sadducees confronted Jesus with a hypothetical situation concerning marriage and resurrection. Is it not ironical? They did not even believe in physical resurrection. Jesus shows they did not know the Scripture or the power of God, or the Living God of resurrection. Here is Mark 12:13 with Dr. Mitchell. You're listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

After a short review of the last lesson on faith and prayer, Dr. Mitchell takes us through Mark 11:27 thru 12:12.In these two passages, Mark presents Jesus being challenged by the religious rulers in the temple in Jerusalem. They Questioned Jesus' about the source of His authority.Jesus conditioned His answer on the answer these rulers would give to Him. He asked them whether John the Baptist was sent by God or men. So they said, they did not know. So Jesus didn't give them His source of authority. Yet how many times had our Lord demonstrated the authority of God in His words and works? Then in Chapter 12, Jesus, speaks another parable, revealing how the nation of Israel had rejected God's previous servants and prophets and Jesus would be one of them. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 11:27 with the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Mark 11:20-26 we are covering two topics. One has to do with the prayer of faith. Also when one is praying there is to also be a forgiving heart.Dr. Mitchell explains the meaning of the fig tree as being the nation of Israel. But in contrast to the unbelieving nation, Jesus tells His disciples to have faith in God, literally, have faith of God.Romans 10:18 says faith comes from hearing and hearing comes from the word of God, or of Christ. Dr. Mitchell gives several passages dealing with praying to God with requests. He points out the motivation for one's prayer. Is it for God's glory in the Son?Dr. Mitchell then proceeds to the matter of forgiveness one with another. Let's turn to Mark 11:20. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Mark 11:12-22 we see Jesus, having come to the village of Bethany from Jerusalem, now returning to Jerusalem the next morning. In verse 12 we see an example of Jesus' humanity. He was hungry. Having comes to a fig tree full of leaves but having no figs, Jesus curses the tree.Dr. Mitchell will explain the meaning of this fig tree, not bearing fruit at that time. Our Lord then makes His way into the temple. He once again cleanses the temple. This is the second time He cleans house. His house had become an emporium, a place for buying and selling sacrificial animals. Dr. Mitchell speaks into our present generation of the commercializing of divine things, where spiritual degeneracy is rampant, where spiritual things are being sold for profit. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 11:12 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

As we journey on with the Lord Jesus, we now turn to Mark 11. Our Lord, having come out of Jericho, is proceeding on to Jerusalem. In these first 14 verses of chapter 11, our Lord is pictured as one who will enter into Jerusalem on the back of a colt, the foal of a donkey. As Dr. Mitchell mentions, this fulfills Zech.9:9 where it was prophesied that the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people were to rejoice. He will yet come to them. But in this instance, He was coming to them, not to reign as their King but as a savior to die on the cross for their sins, and yours and mine. Do you know your sins are forgiven? Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 11:1. You are listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Here in the Gospel of Mark, this lessonbegins in chapter 10 verses 45 thru 52After Jesus spoke of Himself as one who came to minister and to give His life a ransom for many, in fact for all, He now ministers once again near Jericho.A blind man by the name of Bartimaeus which means son of Timaeus asked Jesus to give his eye sight back to him. This blind man was initially rebuked by the crowd standing along the way.But Jesus heard him calling out to Him as Jesus, Son of David. This blind man recognized Jesus as the coming Messiah, the Messiah who was born in the city of David as Christ the Lord - the Savior, to save His people. Here is Dr. Mitchell in Mark 10:45-52 with Jesus our savior on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In our study in this lesson, Dr. Mitchell will focus in on one verse, that is Mark 10:45.He will direct our hearts to the Person and Work of our Lord Jesus Christ, where it is written, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”Dr. Mitchell will give us a survey of the many ways the Lord Jesus had been ministering to people up to this point in the book of Mark. The second part of Mark 10:45 has to do with Jesus giving His life a ransom for many, and for you and for me.Let's turn to Mark 10:45 with Dr. Mitchell as he turns our hearts to the Savior who gave Himself a ransom for all . This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast is in the Gospel of Mark chapter 10. We will be looking at verses 35 thru 45. In these 10 verses, Mark presents Jesus' response to the requests of James and John. What did they request? They wanted Jesus to place each of them next to Himself, one on the right hand and one of left hand in His glory. And we read that the other 10 disciples were miffed at James and John by asking first. So here the Lord Jesus speaks to all His disciples of humble service and ministry stating whoever wants to be first, must be slave of all, giving Himself as the premiere example.Let's turn to Mark 10:35 as Dr. Mitchell shares Jesus' response to what these two disciples were asking of Him.You are listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. John G. Mitchell presents the Biblical Passion of Christ as found in the Gospel of John, chapters 19-21.Thank you for being here with us during this special season on the Unchanging Word Bible.

In Mark 10:32-34, we hear Jesus telling His disciples what would be and was converging upon Him in Jerusalem. This will be the last time our Lord mentions His coming suffering, death and resurrection. This begins the last week of our Lord's life on earth. It is here that Our Lord refers, once again, to Himself as the Son of Man, His favorite title for Himself. This is the title for the Messiah. Up to this point in the book of Mark, Jesus has used this phrase, Son of Man, 7 times. Mark writes this title for Jesus a total of 14 times in his Gospel with chapter 10:45 referencing His servanthood. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 10:32-34, showing us the Savior on the way to Jerusalem to suffer and die for you and me. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Here in Mark 10:22, Mark records Jesus' words as concerning the difficulty of those occupied with wealth to enter the kingdom of God.Dr. Mitchell notes, it is not impossible, but it can be difficult for such a one who makes wealth a priority over a relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ.1st Timothy 6:17 gives instruction for those believers, who are rich in this present age, to set their hope on God rather than on the uncertainty of riches.Peter wanted to know what about the disciples who left everything to follow Jesus. What reward would they have? They would have a family of God along with persecutions and in the age to come, eternal life.Dr. Mitchell, Mark 10:22, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, says, “you never lose by giving to the savior.”

In Mark 10:17-22, Mark writes of a rich young man coming to Jesus, saying, “Good teacher”. Jesus asked him why he called Him good. No one one is good except one, God.Jesus emphasizes the absolute goodness of God. Was the young man acknowledging Jesus as being absolutely good as well, as being God?Dr. Mitchell brings out the ignorance of the young man, even in his own integrity, as to his actual condition before God.Maybe you have done all you know to do thinking it would give you acceptance with God, even by religious ceremonies. You may be like Cornelius,(Acts 10) a God fearing man, but still needing to hear the gospel message of salvation by grace. Have you believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and your sins forgiven? Here is Dr. Mitchell, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Mark 10:17.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues in the Gospel of Mark. We are in chapter 10. We continue on from our previous lesson where Jesus had been confronted by the Pharisees as to whether it was lawful, e.g. legal for a man to send his wife away, e.g. divorce her. It concludes with Jesus welcoming little children.Jesus speaks of God's original purpose for man and woman to be joined together and to become one flesh no longer being two but one flesh.Jesus pinpoints the reason why divorce occurs. It's simply because of hardness of heart. Hardness of heart is a compound word meaning a ‘shriveled heart', dried up and without any feeling, hardened, without any affection. Note this hardness toward the marriage partner is first of all, the result of a hardness against God and His Word. Here's Dr. Mitchell, Mark 10:1-16.

Here in Mark 10:1-9, Pharisees question Jesus about divorce.Jesus asks them what did Moses command? They went to Deuteronomy 24, which Moses wrote as a permission not a command. But Jesus refers them to Gen.1 and 2 which Moses also wrote in the form of a statement Gen.1:27 followed by a command Gen.2:24. Pharisees emphasized divorce. But Jesus emphasized marriage.Dr. Mitchell gives us several scripture references which deal with marriage and divorce. He will speak of the purpose of marriage and love that God originally designed for man and woman. As for divorce, Dr. Mitchell declares that the law of divorce was originally given to the Jews for their protection not to the world. Let's turn in our Bible to Mark 10:1 with Dr. Mitchell speaking about marriage and divorce. This is the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Mark 9:42-50, we finish up this chapter with Jesus's words which continues His instruction concerning maintaining peace amongst believers. In saying this, our Lord speaks of rewards for whose who refresh the followers of Christ with even a cup of water. But Jesus also addresses the need to deal with sin especially that which affects little ones. Here Jesus speaks of the severe consequences of those who cause one of these little ones who believe in Christ to stumble. Then Jesus addresses the need to deal directly with sin in one's own life by way of a form of speech called hyperbole. He speaks in exaggerated word pictures of severe actions towards ones own body. These are not to be taken literally. Jesus is emphasizing the need to deal with sin itself. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 9:42, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.
