Revelation 12-15
"Revelation 12 describes the woman, the dragon, and the child. How should we understand this symbolic story, and what does it reveal about the bigger spiritual battle behind history? In Revelation 13, John sees two beasts—one from the sea and one from the earth. How would the first-century church have understood these images, and how should we recognize the ongoing reality of false powers and counterfeit worship today? Revelation 14 contrasts those who follow the beast with those who follow the Lamb. What does this teach us about endurance and what it really means to remain faithful to Jesus? In today's episode, Emma Dotter and Watermark member Nathan Wagnon talk about Revelation 12-14 and unpack the imagery that is found in these chapters. Title: A Better KingScripture Reading: Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11Series: A Better StoryIn this special Christmas Eve episode of A Better Story, guest Taylor Englund joins us to explore the cosmic magnitude of the Christmas story. Moving beyond the traditional narrative, we dive into the fascinating historical theory that Jesus was actually born on September 11, 3 B.C., aligning with the Jewish Feast of Trumpets. Tune in to discover the true identity of the Magi, the astronomical evidence behind the Star of Bethlehem found in Revelation 12, and how the heavens themselves heralded the arrival of the King of kings.
In Job chapter 35 Elihu condemns Job. If we wonder about whether Elihu is a brash upstart, or whether he is a faithful younger man whose speech demonstrates the wisdom of God - this chapter provides us with the answer to that puzzle. And the answer is that the second statement represents Elihu's character.Every accusation against Job, which Elihu makes, is endorsed by the Almighty in His final speeches. Elihu contests that whether you're right, or whether you sin, God is no way advantaged. However, the LORD is pleased with children whose pleasure it is to please Him. You, Job, he says must see that you are just an insignificant speck of dust. The creature cries out because of pain and suffering, but so infrequently turns to God for His love and support (Romans 8verses18-25). Surely God made us to be more than brute beasts (Ecclesiastes 3verses17-22). Job, wake up to yourself and order your speech aright before your Sovereign. In order to put things in their true perspective, for Job and his friends, in chapter 36 Elihu extols the virtues and might of our Creator. Be patient and listen, Elihu urges them. I will speak in truth and wisdom he declares. It is not the intention of the Almighty to inflict endless sufferings on the wicked (see Hebrews 12verses5-11). He is, in His wisdom, crying to the sons of men, "Repent, turn to Me and be saved". Don't go to the grave in anger and vexation. It's so easy to judge the wicked and at the same time fail to see our own failures. Learn from failure and in all things praise and thank the Almighty. Consider the magnificence of His wisdom - all creation shouts, "In wisdom You have made us".

A radiant woman cries out in labor. A great red dragon coils to devour her child. Then, in a single sweeping line, the child is caught up to the throne, and the accuser is hurled down. Revelation 12 compresses the story of salvation and the shape of our struggle into vivid symbols that still read like headlines for every age. We walk through the woman, the dragon, and the male child with careful attention to Scripture's echoes—from Joseph's dream to the Exodus to the cross—and trace how these images ground our hope and recalibrate our expectations. We dig into the details that matter: why the woman most clearly represents Israel and, by extension, God's people; what the seven heads, ten horns, and diadems signal about counterfeit power; and how the stephanos crown points to promised victory for those who overcome. We explore the fall of a third of the stars as angelic rebellion, the war in heaven led by Michael, and the thunderous verdict that silences the accuser. Most importantly, we center the gospel: believers conquer by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, not by moral polish or cultural dominance. The wilderness scene becomes a field guide for discipleship—1,260 days of tested endurance, eagle's wings of providence, and floods of deception that God neutralizes. Expect opposition; discern propaganda; hold fast to obedience and witness. The dragon is furious and his time is short, but the Lamb has already won. Join us as we read Revelation 12 not as code to crack, but as courage to carry: stand firm, stay clear-eyed, and live like people whose verdict is already “no condemnation.” If this encouraged you, subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review to help others find the show.Intro music - toby MacOutro music - CrowderSupport the show

Sunday Service (12/14/25) // Revelation 12:1-6 (ESV) // The Woman and the Dragon 12 And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. 3 And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. 5 She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule[a] all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, 6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.Footnotesa. Send me a Text Message!I love the iconic manger images of little baby Jesus, but I have to be honest, it's full-grown Jesus with whom I want to be side-by-side. It's the one who stilled the storm, fed the crowd, healed the outcasts and noticed those in the margins of life. It's the one who could gather a crowd but loved you one-on-one. It's the one whoriled up the religious leaders, confused the politicians, scared the hell out of Satan, and loved his enemies all the way to the cross. It's his steps I want to follow. Grown-up Jesus. In this Cosmic Christmas battle, we need more than a baby. We need a King! And that's what we have and because of our King, in the end Christmas wins!

Reach Out: Please include your email and I will get back to you. Thanks!Revelation 12 A great sign appears in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She is pregnant and cries out in labor. A great red dragon appears with seven heads and ten horns. The dragon seeks to devour her child, but the child is caught up to God and His throne. The woman flees into the wilderness, where God prepares a place for her. A war breaks out in heaven, and Michael and his angels fight the dragon. The dragon is defeated and cast down to earth. He pursues the woman, but she is given wings to escape. Enraged, the dragon makes war on the rest of her offspring, those who keep God's commands and hold to Jesus. We are reminded in this chapter that spiritual warfare is real and ongoing, but God is always in control. The woman symbolizes God's faithful people, and the child is Christ, whom the dragon cannot destroy. Although the dragon is powerful and full of fury, he has already been defeated and cast down. We may face trials, attacks, and pressure from the enemy, but God provides protection and strength for His people. The wilderness might seem like a place of hardship, but it is also a place of safety prepared by God. We are called to stay faithful, keep God's commands, and hold firmly to the testimony of Jesus. Victory is certain, and we can stand firm in that hope. Present Lord, we come to You with grateful hearts, knowing You are always near and never forsake Your people. You have defeated the enemy through the power of Christ, and You protect those who are Yours. Though the dragon rages, we trust in Your strength and faithfulness. Help us stand firm through every trial and hold fast to the testimony of Jesus. Give us courage to obey Your commands and wisdom to recognize Your provision, even in the wilderness. Strengthen our faith, and remind us that Your victory is certain. We rest in Your promises and live for Your glory. Thought Questions: The dragon could not defeat the child, the Son of God. In an uncertain world, what does it mean to you to know the Savior is undefeatable? We overcome the accuser by “the blood of the Lamb”? How does Christ's blood inspire you to love Him more than even your own life? In what ways are you holding fast to the testimony of Jesus and keeping God's command, even as you face opposition or hardship?

Send me a Text Message!Revelation 12 does not describe a merry, little Christmas. Christmas is a holy war, a cosmic battle for the glory of God, with a vicious villian. Like Frodo and his fellowship against Sauron in the Lord of the Rings, or Iron Man against Thanos, even Little Red Riding Hood against the Big Bad Wolf. A cosmic battle agnst the hosts of darkness. We live in a culture that sees evil as a disease, a pyschological sickness, but the Bible describes evil as personal, malicious and dangerous. That first Christmas led to war in heaven. Christmas is a cosmic invasion in the epic battle between God and evil; between darkness and light. And guess who wins?

The book of Revelation is full of imagery and prophecy, which means that as we read there will be many confusing passages that Christians may disagree on and which I will not be able to cover at length here. Some see this next section as an overlap, sort of a call back to what has already been described at a different angle. The sign of the woman that gives birth to a child who will rule the nations is full of references to Psalm 2 which in turn is full messianic promises. The dragon is a reference to Satan, who sought to annihilate this promised child through Herod. The woman is later supernaturally sustained for 1260 days, which is the exact amount of time that the two witnesses were protected. Unable to harm the woman, the dragon wages war against those who keep the commands of God. :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Biblefacebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org
