Welcome author, musician, and spoken word artist Humble the Poet. "I've been a full-time artist for ten years. No two days are the same. The longer you do it, the more confidently you can say, ‘I have not seen it all.'” - Humble the Poet The Toronto native looks back on his humble beginnings as a teacher with a hyperactive imagination who believed that his penchant for music and poetry would never be anything more than a hobby. A fateful encounter with a particular “producer” who promised him fame caused Humble to quit his teaching job prematurely, thrusting him into debt and a long period of unemployment. He called that moment the real beginning of his story, the rest being false starts. Humble took to Facebook to publish his reflections to a small group of followers which grew by the day, inspired by Humble's depth and eloquence. Listen in as Humble speaks of vulnerability, empathy, and love as his pillars for life and career. He explains that an artist's ultimate responsibility is “to work through something, and then to share that journey.” He and Ruben also break down what it means to love actively, to be willing to open one's sails and let the breeze push us where we are meant to go. "Vulnerability encourages vulnerability, which in itself creates an authentic connection.” - Humble the Poet SUBSCRIBE to Live Through Love so you never miss an episode & RATE/REVIEW it on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. About Heather O'Neill HEATHER O'NEILL is a novelist, short-story writer and essayist. Her most recent bestselling novel, The Lonely Hearts Hotel, won the Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction and was longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction and CBC's Canada Reads. Her previous work, which includes Lullabies for Little Criminals, The Girl Who Was Saturday Night and Daydreams of Angels, has been shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction, the Orange Prize for Fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize two years in a row. She has won CBC's Canada Reads and the Danuta Gleed Award. Born and raised in Montreal, O'Neill lives there with her daughter. About When We Lost Our Heads 1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER Belletrist Book Club selection * Readers' Digest Book Club selection * Cityline Book Club selection From the bestselling author of The Lonely Hearts Hotel, a spellbinding story about two young women whose friendship is so intense it not only threatens to destroy them, it changes the course of history Marie Antoine is the charismatic, spoiled daughter of a sugar baron. At age twelve, with her pile of blond curls and unparalleled sense of whimsy, she's the leader of all the children in the Golden Mile, the affluent strip of nineteenth-century Montreal where powerful families live. Until one day in 1873, when Sadie Arnett, dark-haired, sly and brilliant, moves to the neighbourhood. Marie and Sadie are immediately inseparable. United by their passion and intensity, they attract and repel each other in ways that set them both on fire. Marie, with her bubbly charm, sees all the pleasure of the world, whereas Sadie's obsession with darkness is all-consuming. Soon, their childlike games take on the thrill of danger and then become deadly. Forced to separate, the girls spend their teenage years engaging in acts of alternating innocence and depravity, until a singular event unites them once more, with devastating effects. After Marie inherits her father's sugar empire and Sadie disappears into the city's gritty underworld, the working class begins to foment a revolution. Each woman will play an unexpected role in the events that upend their city—the only question is whether they will find each other once more. From the beloved Giller Prize-shortlisted author who writes “like a sort of demented angel with an uncanny knack for metaphor” (Toronto Star), When We Lost Our Heads is a page-turning novel that explores gender and power, sex and desire, class and status, and the terrifying strength of the human heart when it can't let someone go.
