We're back with Tareq for our final Ramadan episode, and we're diving deep into gossip—because let's be real, we all do it. Is venting just gossip with better PR? Do men actually gossip more than women? And where's the line between harmless chitchat and straight-up character assassination? We break down the psychology behind why we spill the tea, the role of gossip in friendships and culture, and what to do when someone asks for “innocent” intel about a potential spouse. Plus, we reflect on how Ramadan had us rethinking our words (or at least trying to).All this and more in this week's episode!
The Sunni Shia divide remains an open wound and a means by which our enemies meddle in our internal affairs. Since the war on terror, and the horrible sectarianism unleashed on Iraq, this divide has got even bigger and has often led to bloody violence. However, amidst this turmoil, we often hear voices from within the Ummah and beyond, dreaming of unity to confront the misery, humiliation, and suffering of the oppressed, especially in the current situation with Palestine. But it's a difficult topic, there are a host of theological and political concerns and the current tussle between Saudi Arabia and Iran makes any talk of reconciliation or an overlapping consensus politically charged.Dr Suwaidan is a profile writer, speaker, trainer and in many ways has brought much needed intellectual thought to our age.Let me remind all viewers that to help us continue to engage critical thought at this time, Please consider becoming a Patron. https://www.patreon.com/TheThinkingMuslimYou can also support The Thinking Muslim through a one-time donation: https://www.thinkingmuslim.com/DonateListen to the audio version of the podcast:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7vXiAjVFnhNI3T9Gkw636aApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-thinking-muslim/id1471798762Sign up to Muhammad Jalal's newsletter: https://jalalayn.substack.comPurchase our Thinking Muslim mug: https://www.thinkingmuslim.com/merch Find us on:Twitter: https://twitter.com/thinking_muslimFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/The-Thinking-Muslim-Podcast-105790781361490Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thinkingmuslimpodcast/Telegram: https://t.me/thinkingmuslim Host: https://twitter.com/jalalaynWebsite Archive: https://www.thinkingmuslim.com0:00 – Introduction 1:55 – Iraq: Framing sectarianism 10:00 – Iran's Shia exceptionalism 15:30 – Iran and Shia not the same 16:48 – Why do we need unity? 21:03 – Overlapping consensus? 22:06 – How do we do this? 24:32 – Declaring takfir and abuse of companions31:44 – A major cultural shift? 33:50 – Our enemies using our division Hosted on Acast. Lara and Carey ditch their hot topics segment for Lara's update on a shoncking twist in her Roman Holiday. Then on the final episode of RHODC ever the ladies reel from the seismic fallout of the Salahis crashing the White House state dinner. Michaele and Tareq find themselves in a media blitz from Matt Lauer to Larry King, all the way to the Capitol, where they are called before a Congressional hearing. “While I was packing, the only thing I was thinking about was how grateful I felt and how I could thank that cab driver who changed my life forever with a small act of kindness.” - Tareq Hadhad Tareq Hadhad's life was changed forever during a cab ride home one day. His driver, who was singing and smiling as he drove, noticed that Tareq looked heavy-hearted. After explaining what was on his mind, the driver shared an idea with him that would positively impact Tareq's entire future – and his family's safety. It was the answer he had been searching for. In today's episode, Dr. Michelle Robin invites Tareq to share his awe-inspiring story about his family's refugee journey from Syria to their new home in Canada. He provides a glimpse into what was going through in his mind during this incredibly challenging time of war in their country, but also what he noticed about his father who was losing everything he had built for his family – including his chocolate factory. Enjoy this special holiday episode, which reminds us that there will be moments in life that are truly hard, sometimes devastating – and it may even feel like we are losing everything in the blink of an eye – but what matters is how true we stay to our values and how we can learn some of life's greatest lessons through crisis. About Today's Guests: Tareq Hadhad was a Syrian refugee and is now living his new life with his entrepreneurial family in Canada's east coast. He is the founder and CEO of Peace by Chocolate, the recipient of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 for Atlantic, named one of the Top 25 Immigrants in the Maritimes, selected by Google as the National Hero Case, was awarded RBC's top Immigrant Award and Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020 – in addition to Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal. All of this happened since Tareq's arrival on Canada's East Coast in December 2015 as a Syrian-Canadian newcomer. In 2012, the Hadhad's home and factory that housed the family chocolate-making business were destroyed, which forced them to seek safety in other countries. Passionate about peace and entrepreneurship, his family relaunched the family business to recreate the chocolates they once exported across the Middle East and their story has turned into an international inspiring phenomenon. Carey and Lara discuss the terrifying tale dueling vacation homes in Maine, where a wealthy summer resident was driven to poison her neighbor's trees. Then back on RHODC, Tarq treats Michaele to a series of birthday surprises which may or may not be real, Mary's patience for her adult daughter's huge dog is wearing thin. Cat convinces Mary to join her at the Salahi winery for horseback riding. The two are forced to play polo with Tareq, and Michaele, with not a glass of wine in sight. Michaele plans stylist Paul's birthday party; Paul tells her Lynda thinks Michaele is too thin. Cat continues her parade of macro-aggression when Stacie invites the girls to her Aunt Frances's for Sunday dinner. Paul's soirée goes off without a hitch, minus Tareq, and Michaele's unhinged hosting skills. Lynda gets the last laugh when she deftly confronts the Salahis about their web of wine and lies.Buy tickets to the SUP SUMMER 2024 TOUR.Subscribe to Once Upon a Time in Nashville to hear a new episode out now!Listen to this episode ad-free AND get access to weekly bonus episodes + video episodes by joining the SUP PATREON.Be cheap as hell and get full-length videos of the pod for free by subscribing to the SUP YOUTUBE.Relive the best moments of this iconic podcast by following the SUP TIKOK. As I sit here, most of the journalists still reporting from Gaza seem to be somewhere in a hospital complex in Rafah that is currently under siege by the Israeli military. This song is not a prediction of their deaths, but rather a plea for their lives.
As the Israeli military shoots its way into the center of Rafah, they have made it abundantly clear that there are certain broad classes of Palestinians that are targets for assassination, and that seems to include anyone who works for Al-Jazeera. Those of us who have been watching this genocide unfold live on Al-Jazeera's English channel for the past 7+ months are all especially familiar with and probably enamored of two reporters in particular who have been with us day in and day out the whole time.

The Real Housewives of DC's Cat Ommanney steps Behind The Rope. With all this nostalgia running rapid in the BravoVerse these days, we figured it a great time to share this chat with the Real Housewives of DC OG - there was only one season after all - Cat Ommanney. Cat shares stories that sound like they are straight out of Bethenny's Reality Reckoning, it makes us wonder if she has called B or her team of super powered attorneys. Cat gets reminiscent about what it was like to film the one season wonder, shares her feelings on her cast-mates Mary Amons, Linda Erkiletian, Stacie Scott Turner and last, but certainly not least, Michaele Salahi (now Schon) and fills us in on the status of those relationships today. On a more serious note, Cat discusses the issues of racism and politics that were ever present during the RHODC season. Of course, we address how the show was impacted by the worldwide, viral country security breach of the Salahi's “crashing” The White House Dinner. We discuss the implications of having production temporarily shut down, the involvement of the FBI, the federal investigation not only into the Salahis but Bravo as well, and why the show was not “green lit” for a much needed second season. Oh hey there Michaele and Tareq. In typical Cat fashion, nothing is held back and we wouldn't expect anything less. @catommanney @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at - www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: AQUATRU - aquatrue.com (20% Off Plus a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee.
