Queen, let's talk about the confusion that nobody prepared you for: when your high-value man checks every box society told you mattered, but your nervous system is screaming that something ain't right. You're not crazy, and you're not asking for too much—you're just dealing with an emotional project disguised in designer suits and six-figure success. In this episode, I'm breaking down why status doesn't equal safety and how to stop carrying the invisible emotional load that's draining your peace. It's time to trust your instincts and reclaim your power. What You'll Learn Discover the five clear signs that your successful man is actually an emotional project in disguise Shift your understanding of what "high value" really means beyond bank accounts and status symbols Notice how cognitive dissonance shows up when someone looks like a catch but feels like chaos Reclaim your self-trust by understanding that asking for your needs wasn't "too much"—it was necessary Transform your approach to relationships by recognizing emotional availability as the true flex Why It Matters This conversation addresses what so many high-achieving black women experience but rarely discuss—the psychological confusion that leaves you questioning everything about yourself. We've been conditioned to endure instead of express, especially when society celebrates our "good man." Through mindset coaching and understanding neurobiology, I'm here to empower you to stop diminishing yourself and break free from self-abandonment patterns. Your peace isn't negotiable. Hey, it's Brig! In this episode, I'm diving into de-centering men without dismissing them. This isn't about being anti-men but becoming "pro-you." I unpack the stress women carry when our worth is tied to relationships with men, and how we can reclaim sovereignty. What You'll Learn: Historical Conditioning: How laws and culture, like credit restrictions until 1974, mandated centering men. Everyday Conditioning: How childhood, church, media, and dating advice push us to prioritize men. Reasons to De-Center: I share five powerful reasons to de-center men: your worth is inherent, not tied to a man; centering men causes health-damaging stress, especially for Black women; prioritizing men isn't true connection if it erases you; de-centering lets men be whole, fostering healing; and it means choosing love from truth, not panic. Remember that de-centering isn't about rejecting love but reclaiming your power to choose it freely. Let's build a life where love is a choice, not a chain, and step into true sovereignty together. In this powerful episode, I sit down with a special guest, CJ, who recently completed the UNKAGED™ six-month coaching program. CJ shares her transformative journey from feeling unsafe and overwhelmed in her high-powered career to reclaiming her sovereignty and creating space for her passions. What You'll Learn: How feeling "unsafe" in professional spaces is a common experience for Black women that drains our capacity Why the "strong Black woman" trope and self-sacrifice mindset limits our potential The power of validating your own thoughts and feelings with "this makes sense" instead of questioning yourself How to create more capacity by reducing stress and emotional labor The difference between culturally-rooted coaching and traditional coaching approaches Why recovery is essential for high-achieving Black women I'm so grateful to CJ for sharing her story and insights with us. Her journey is a powerful reminder that we don't have to settle for survival mode—we can choose recovery, reclaim our capacity, and live life on our own terms. If you want to get leaner and live longer, check out https://milliondollarbodylabs.com/ Have you ever felt guilty after eating a banana, or calculated how many snacks you could eat after a workout? I think we've all been there, struggling with food rules. In this episode, I talked with Anna Vocino about food trauma and unlearning outdated food rules. We discussed how beliefs about fat from the 1990s and carb demonization from the 2000s still shape how we eat. People were taught low-fat foods were virtuous, and fruit was bad. We also covered the issue of “gamifying” diets to allow for treats, which can lead to poor health outcomes even if weight is lost. True health requires considering both food quality and quantity. I learned that sustained change comes from addressing emotional patterns and beliefs, rather than relying on fear or self-hatred. Exercise is a separate component for well-being, not a reward system for eating certain foods. Key Takeaways: Outdated food rules, like fearing fat or demonizing carbs and fruit, are often based on marketing. Seeing exercise as a way to “earn” food or applying an “if it fits your macros” approach can be a form of disordered eating. Using tools like blood work and continuous glucose monitors (CGM) can provide insight into your body's unique responses to food. Lasting health transformation stems from addressing underlying beliefs and cultivating self-love, not from fear or self-hatred. Today, I'm talking about a pattern that's silently robbing high-achieving Black women of money, joy, and energy: self-abandonment. What is Self-Abandonment? Self-abandonment happens when you leave yourself emotionally, mentally, or physically to secure someone else's comfort, approval, or validation. It's when you side with others over yourself. We do this because somewhere along the line, we learned being fully ourselves wasn't safe. For Black women, this is compounded by generations of being told our bodies, voices, and desires needed to be managed to avoid backlash. 5 Signs You're Abandoning Yourself: You override your "no" - Agreeing to things that make you dread your calendar You need a "good reason" to rest - Otherwise, you feel guilty You shrink your joy - Speaking less, dimming your shine, or even stopping yourself from laughing You defer your decisions - Letting others decide for you, even on things that deeply impact you You gaslight yourself - Downplaying your needs or telling yourself you're overreacting The Cost Is Too High Studies show: The APA found that suppressing authentic self-expression is linked to higher cortisol and inflammation levels Harvard Business Review reports Black women face the steepest emotional tax in professional settings, leading to earlier burnout Chronic self-abandonment is associated with higher rates of depression, anxiety, and stress-related illness For high earners, this shows up as: Emotional: Loss of self-trust, chronic resentment, burnout Physical: Sleep disruption, weight fluctuations, immune issues, hypertension Relationship: Surface-level connections, resentment in partnerships The Path Forward Ask yourself: "What would I choose if I didn't need anyone's approval?" Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “Something about me is just… wrong”? In this episode, I'm getting real about internalized wrongness — that quiet, exhausting belief that your identity is a defect to fix instead of something to celebrate. I've lived this, and I know how sneaky it is. From code-switching until you don't recognize your own voice, to chasing every receipt and title just to feel “enough,” it's a cycle that drains your energy, creativity, and self-trust. We'll talk about how this shows up in our daily lives, why overachieving can be a mask for internalized wrongness, and the exact process I use to help Black women reset their nervous systems so authenticity feels safe again. I'll share a client story, practical steps you can start today, and the one truth that changes everything: you were never the problem — you are the blueprint. What you'll learn in this episode: How to recognize the signs of internalized wrongness Why over-preparing and over-performing never bring self-trust The “safety scripts” that keep you editing yourself to fit in Small, low-risk experiments to prove to your body it's safe to be you How to start stacking evidence for your worth and identity If you've been shrinking, editing, or collecting receipts just to feel worthy, it's time to reset. You've been told that body image is about self-esteem. Or confidence. Or that it's just a “vanity issue” you need to pray your way out of. But what if the issue isn't your reflection, but it's your wiring? In this final episode of the Spiritual Brain Surgery takeover series, guest host Leanne Ellington dismantles one of the biggest lies women have been taught: that if we just loved ourselves more, the body shame would go away.Through brain science, lived experience, and Spirit-led truth, Leanne reveals how body image isn't a surface-level issue—it's a deeply embedded neurological pattern. She shares the story of her own unraveling (even after losing 100 pounds), how the Anterior Cingulate Cortex shapes your self-image, and why your mirror might be reflecting trauma instead of truth. You'll walk away with a 3-step framework to start rewriting your self-image—God's way:Step 1: Unlearn the Lies – Dismantle the false beliefs you inherited about your worth, your body, and what makes you lovable, and take off the mental “backpack” you were never meant to carry.Step 2: Regulate the Noise – Calm the inner static that keeps you stuck in fear and body shame by creating nervous system safety, so you can finally feel the love and truth God is offering.Step 3: Rebuild the Mirror – Rewire the way you see yourself by aligning your self-image with how God already sees you: worthy, chosen, and delightfully made—right now, not 20 pounds from now. This isn't about body positivity. It's about identity alignment.Because when the mirror reflects how God sees you, you don't have to fight to love yourself. You simply receive it.Resources and LinksWatch Leanne's on-demand workshop.Listen to Outweigh Podcast.Listen to What's God Got To Do With It? Podcast. Following a script doesn't = success. You already know this because its exactly why intuitives feel out of place in a world obsessed with hustle, hierarchy, and doing things the “right” way.I spent 6 years trying to master methods & practise, doubting my intuition & questioning what a Spiritual connection was. Deep down, if I was honest with myself, it all felt inauthentic. So I decided to try a different way. And what happened changed the trajectory of my life, practise & business. By the time you finish listening to this episode, you will uncover:- How the cultural hum of “not good enough” flowsinto Reiki practise, unconsciously & what it takes to break that cycle.- The breakthrough threshold in deciding to go where mysoul led my – and what the challenge of “trying harder” saw me doing.- The things I was told by ‘experts' when I started to own my power that "wouldn't work" (that saw me, by practise & my business soar)- What I had to stop doing in order to thrive –and it's not another Spiritual cliché. Hey y'all, it's Brig. This one is personal. Equal Pay Day just passed—and it's not a celebration, it's a correction. A reminder that Black and Brown women are still months behind in earnings, every single year. This episode is for every woman who's been grinding, staying late, over-preparing, and still being undervalued. I brought in the powerhouse Anita Miller to help us go deeper—not just into the numbers, but into the language of worth. We're not just talking about the wage gap. We're dismantling the silence that keeps us underpaid. In this episode, we unpack: Why Equal Pay Day isn't a holiday—it's a reality check The disturbing math behind racial and gender pay gaps How communication—not credentials—is often the barrier The Power Language Method and why it's a game changer The hidden ways we shrink in negotiation and leadership Why AI could widen the gap even further—and how to prepare How to move from “doing more” to strategic influence Why internal safety is a leadership skill (and yes, it's contagious) Anita doesn't hold back—and neither do I. If you've ever felt overlooked, underpaid, or unsure how to advocate for yourself, this episode is a must-listen.
Life with A Thousand Paper Cuts – What PTSD Feels Like with Cole GraceJune was Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) awareness month. And yes, even though it is now July, I am airing this interview with Cole Grace, who shares his story about what it feels like to have PTSD, and to recover and experience calm despite having a life going through chaos. Bio:Cole Grace had a difficult early childhood. His parents divorced when he was four years old. And although he was never physically or sexually abused, and never lost anyone tragically, he didn't think he had childhood trauma. Cole joined the Army National Guard and went to Iraq as a combat engineer responsible for IED route clearance and convoy security in 2005. He was attached to multiple units and low ranking because he got in trouble for smoking weed. So he got the worst of the worst jobs. Through this, Cole repressed his emotions in the moment, but later realized he had trauma from his childhood and his combat experience. Cole went back to school and ended up getting a high paying job for the government in 2012. He thought that meant that he was healed from the stomach episodes he suffered from while in Iraq, some of which led him to go to the emergency room after returning to the United States in 2006. When he worked for the government in 2012, it was in the midst of the opioid crisis. So that meant when he went to the hospital, many times they wouldn't give him pain medicine anymore. So he self medicated and eventually became addicted to opiates in 2015. Cole went to rehab in 2017 and learned about childhood trauma, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and started reading self-help books and books about trauma. He started trying different healing modalities and eventually putting together the outline for the book Internal to External - Calming the Chaos Within. “Your external world can change in an instant, but you can't take away the internal things.”Timestamps 7:30 Cole tells his story10:00 The Army / Combat Experience14:00 Radiation Exposure in Iraq16:20 “I just checked off this whole checklist and I still don't feel good.”19:10 “Unlearn your Pain and Depression” book by Howard Schubiner at https://unlearnyourpain.com/unlearn-your-pain-book/21:47 “The Body Keeps the Score” and “7 Habits for Highly Successful People” and other self-help books helped him connect to the subconscious 23:30 What Cole does to monitor his subconscious mind1. But he did it. He believes that the book is inspiring and that it gives practical ways and “tactics” to improve your quality of life without the expectation of perfection.“I do not have it all figured out, and I don't pretend to. So many of the ways we show up in our relationships—how we communicate, how we love, how we cope—aren't actually conscious choices. They're inherited. Programmed. Conditioned from what we saw, experienced, or learned growing up.In this episode, we're talking about three ways of being you may have learned that are quietly wrecking the quality of your relationships—and your own personal peace. You'll hear how these patterns show up:-When you're constantly blaming others but feeling stuck-When love becomes a reward instead of a reflection of who you want to be-When avoiding your emotions becomes your way of coping—but keeps you disconnected from your own lifeThis is about unlearning the old survival strategies and stepping into a more grounded, emotionally resilient, and soul-aligned version of yourself. It's not easy work, but it's the kind of work that changes everything. If you've been feeling unfulfilled, irritated, or just tired of the way things feel in your marriage or within yourself—this conversation is for you.
Hustling isn't indicative of success. And I've got proof. I spent 12 months posting on Instagram five days a week, sending multiple emails, and following a framework that didn't feel authentic. Despite investing heavily, my online business wasn't paying off like my brick-and-mortar one.So I decided to try a different way. I threw out the hustle mentality completely. What happened next changed how I looked at business in general. This episode proves that hustling harder doesn't equal more success. Sometimes the answer is doing less, not more.BY THE TIME YOU FINISH LISTENING TO THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL DISCOVER:How 12 months of "perfect execution" netted me exactly ONE client (and the breaking point that almost killed my business). The exact moment I decided to quit... and what made me try once more. The 3 "stupid" things I did that every expert said would never work (spoiler: they generated 6 figures). What I had to STOP doing to finally start winning (this will trigger every productivity guru). And while you're here, follow us on Instagram @creativelyowned for more daily inspiration on effortlessly attracting the most aligned clients without spending hours marketing your business or chasing clients. I missed y'all! Life hit me with a virus, and instead of pushing through, I practiced what I preach—I rested. And in that stillness, something clicked: too many of us are walking around disconnected from our inner YAS—our sacred, soul-level yes—because it's been buried under other people's voices. This episode is for the queens who feel stuck, confused, or overwhelmed because they've been outsourcing their clarity to everyone else: family, friends, systems, partners... It's time to come back home to your truth. What this episode is really about: Why you can't hear your YES when it's drowned out by everyone else's “shoulds” The authority gap and how it keeps you from trusting your inner wisdom The sacred 5-step soul sorting process to reclaim your decision-making power What I learned during my divorce about making hard decisions for YOU—not for anyone else Why your truth needs protection, incubation, and stillness before it's ready to be shared How to stop crowdsourcing your clarity and start trusting your nervous system's signals Journal prompts and practical tools to help you uncover and anchor your YES Take Action If you've been feeling stuck or anxious about making a big decision, don't rush it—soul sort it. Hey y'all—Brig here. Today I'm bringing you a topic that might hit close to home: playing small just to stay loved. Whether it's at work, in relationships, or even around family, too many of us shrink ourselves to make others feel more comfortable. I've been there. I know what it's like to silence your voice, tone yourself down, and wear outdated roles just to keep the peace. But that strategy? It's costing you more than you realize. In this episode, I'm not here to shame you—I'm here to bring awareness. To name the cages. To help you identify the "shrink scripts" you've inherited from well-meaning people who didn't know any better. I'll show you how to unkage your voice, your body, your mind, and your entire life. Because surviving isn't the same as living—and queen, it's time to live unkaged. What We'll Dive Into in This Episode: Why conditional love is often disguised as safety The emotional cost of shrinking yourself in friendships, at work, and at home The invisible work no one sees—but that's changing you daily “Shrink scripts” from family, culture, and your own past—and how to rewrite them The difference between surviving and thriving A powerful voice note exercise to reconnect with your growth Take Action – Your Uncaging Starts Now Ask yourself: Where are you still playing small to be loved?
