Then a night in Vegas showed him it wasn't the one he was meant to live.Cal Callahan walked away from a successful career in finance to host The Great Unlearn and build Unlearn Ventures, a fund and studio backing conscious projects that put people over profit. Is your "sweet tooth" actually lying to you?Do you find yourself playing the role of the "perfect eater" all day, only to have the wheels fall off the moment you get home? If you've ever felt like a passenger to your own late-night cravings for sugary, salty, or carb-heavy snacks, you are not alone…and more importantly, you aren't "broken."In this episode, we are pulling back the curtain on the "Subjective Bias" that keeps you stuck. I'm explaining why your belief that "I just love chocolate" isn't a personality trait, it's a learned construct. We're diving into the science of how your brain memorizes patterns and, most importantly, how you can begin to unlearn them starting today.I'm sharing a simple, science-backed 3-step process to help you gain food freedom once and for all:Acknowledge: Why a craving is a habit, not a character flaw.Decide: How to design a new identity that actually serves your goals (without giving up the foods you love).Rewire: The "bricks and mortar" of building new mental patterns rooted in self-compassion.Today also marks the official kickoff of the 90-Second Craving Reset Challenge! This challenge is the foundation for everything we discuss in this episode. If you're ready to stop the cycle of guilt and start making empowered choices that feel effortless, this episode is your starting line.Join the 90-Second Craving Reset Challenge here!Did you enjoy the episode? There are so many things I had to unlearn to become who I am today. One of the biggest was believing that life is always fair and that people will always act with kindness and integrity. I grew up seeing the world through a lens of innocence, but adulthood showed me that fairness is subjective and everyone operates from their own perspective.I also had to unlearn that everyone will like you, that putting yourself first is selfish, and that everything you were raised with has to define your future. These shifts didn't come easily, but they created something better: clarity, boundaries, and self-trust.If this resonated with you, leave a review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, or share in the comments what you've had to unlearn in your own life.

What does it take for Canadian leaders to not just survive, but shape the AI revolution? In this episode of Shift, tech journalist, bestselling author, and entrepreneur Amber Mac joins the conversation to unpack why digital literacy is no longer optional — it's a leadership imperative. From dismantling the myth that AI is "only for the smartest people in the room" to exploring Canada's unique position in global AI innovation, Amber delivers a candid look at the risks of falling behind and the rewards of going first. We dig into the barriers holding Canadian businesses back — risk aversion, regulation, and capital — and why telling stories of transformation matters now more than ever. Plus: how a purpose-driven, human-centric approach to AI can redefine industries like healthcare, and why the leaders who master the art of learning, unlearning, and relearning will define the next decade. A must-listen for executives, innovators, and anyone who wants to stop fearing AI — and start leading with it.

Proverbs has a lot to say about our speech habits (our tongue, mouth, lips). Most of us learn habits of speech that we have to unlearn and replace if we are going to grow into the Godly Wisdom that Proverbs invites us into. Three habits in particular include airing our opinions, lying, and gossip. It is one thing to try and stop doing those things, but replacing those habits with healthier habits will help us begin to truly experience transformation.

UNLEARN isn't about fixing yourself. It's about freeing yourself. It's about meeting your life with honesty and realizing that even in the messy, uncertain, uncomfortable seasons, you may not be broken at all; you may simply be remembering who you are.In this conversation, led by my close brother Adam Schell, I share the deeply personal process behind my first book, UNLEARN: Letting Go Of Who You Never Were To Become Everything You Already Are, and the emotional and relational repercussions of placing impossible expectations on myself and chasing external success in order to feel worthy. I share what it looked like to peel back the identities, patterns, and beliefs I didn't even realize I was carrying — and what happened when the life I had built stopped making sense.Watch This Episode on YouTubeConnect with Cal:UNLEARN BookInstagramFacebookYouTubeWebsiteCheck out all of the amazing discounts from our Sponsors

Heathar Shephard is a nutritionist, homeopath, and farm owner based in New Mexico — and her approach to health is unlike anything you've probably heard before. She grew up on a farm, left to train professional athletes, and then a car accident changed everything. A serious traumatic brain injury forced her off the field and into a deep, decade-long healing journey — one that eventually led her back to the land, to food, to the sun, and to a private practice she's been running for nearly 20 years. In this episode, we go deep. Really deep. What we cover:• Why glucose is your cells' preferred fuel — and what happens when you restrict it and why Keto, Carnivore, Low-Carb and Fasting feel only initially good and are not meant to be used longterm• The real reason fasting elevates estrogen and depletes progesterone• How to test your thyroid at home (temperature + pulse, not TSH)• Why most "healthy" seeds and vegetable oils may be working against you• The estrogen vs. progesterone conversation nobody is having clearly enough• What exercise really does to a struggling thyroid — and what to look out for when exercising instead• Dairy, fruit, orange juice, and honey as thyroid-supporting foodsFind Heathar:
Nobody talks about their first termination the way they should, which is with a little bit of trauma, because we never forget the people we have to let go of. In this latest episode of I Hate It Here, I sat down with Jennifer Laurie, fractional CPO and founder of Equitable HR Guild, to do exactly that! We went all the way back to her very first termination…the nerves, the Googling "how to fire someone," the manager who was just as lost as she was, and then kept going. We got into where managers go horribly wrong before they even get to the termination convo, how bias creeps into these decisions in ways that are really easy to miss, and why the debrief after is the part everyone skips but absolutely shouldn't. Episode Title: Artificial Organizations Host: Shawn Flynn Guest: Barry O'Reilly – Co-Founder of Nobody Studios, Author, and Executive Coach Episode Summary In this episode of The Silicon Valley Podcast, host Shawn Flynn sits down with Barry O'Reilly to discuss a fundamental shift in the corporate world: the transition from "doing more" to "deciding better." As AI dominates boardrooms, many leaders find themselves overwhelmed by data but starved for clarity. Barry explains why the real ROI of AI isn't found in software, but in a leader's ability to synthesize information and increase "decision velocity." We dive into Barry's 5–15–30 AI Leadership Roadmap and explore the uncomfortable truth that the AI revolution isn't actually about the technology—it's about the person leading it. Key Discussion Points Thinking Clearly in the Age of Distraction: The first step for overwhelmed executives to regain their focus and sharpen their decision-making. The AI Culture Trap: How to accelerate AI adoption without breaking the foundational trust of your team or compromising company culture. Human vs. Machine: Identifying which leadership tasks must remain strictly human and which areas of business we should step back from to let the machine lead. Decision Velocity & Advantage: Understanding the compounding effect these forces have on a company's bottom line. Data vs. Synthesis: Why modern leadership is no longer about gathering more data, but about the failure to synthesize what we already have. The "Shelf Life" of Ideas: How long until today's AI strategies become 50% or 90% outdated? The 5–15–30 Roadmap: A breakdown of leadership priorities at three critical milestones of AI integration. The Uncomfortable Truth: Why the shift toward AI is ultimately about the leader's personal evolution, not the tools they buy. Notable Quotes "The real shift isn't about adopting new tools, but about changing how leaders make decisions." "If you removed your entire AI stack tomorrow, what remains tells you everything about your true effectiveness as a leader." This 17-track R&B blockbuster follows the 2024 album Crash and marks a major career moment for the artist. The lead single “Folded” reached number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, delivering Kehlani's first Top 10 hit along with two Grammy wins for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. The album features an all-star lineup including Cardi B, Usher, Brandy, Clipse, Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Leon Thomas, Lil Jon, T-Pain, and Missy Elliott. Standout collaborations appear on tracks such as “Back and Forth” with Missy Elliott, “No Such Thing” with Clipse sampling The Pharcyde's “Runnin',” “Shoulda Never” with Usher, “Sweet Nuthins” with Leon Thomas, “Anotha Luva” with Lil Wayne, and “Pocket” with Cardi B. Only about five tracks remain fully solo, highlighting a deliberate strategy of heavy features to explore diverse R&B sub-genres.Musically, the project fuses '90s and 2000s R&B influences with modern production, including Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis-style elements on “I Need You,” rock-infused ballads like “Oooh,” and a gospel-influenced closer “Unlearn.” Themes center on romantic relationships, personal growth at age 30, motherhood, and emotional clarity, delivered through accessible, sing-along narratives designed for broad relatability.Analytic Dreamz examines the marketing rollout, including Spotify partnership, a trailer reveal, and low-cost “Club Kehlani” listening events priced at $4.24 across New York and Los Angeles. The segment explores Kehlani's ambitions for Carnegie Hall orchestral performances, film and TV placements, and her transition into mainstream crossover success as an arena-level R&B headliner. This segment delivers an in-depth analysis of how Kehlani's feature-heavy, nostalgia-driven approach positions the self-titled album as a potential R&B classic and sets the tone for mainstream R&B in 2026. Jordan Pollack, biomedical engineer, entrepreneur and CEO of Sub-Q Bionics. Jordan began his career at Boston Scientific, later founded VeinWay in Israel and is now focused on building a new treatment paradigm for lymphoedema in cancer survivors. In this episode, we explore what actually creates momentum in MedTech, from networking with intent to building the resilience needed to survive the founder journey. Jordan shares why conferences alone rarely deliver results, how warm introductions and targeted roadshows outperform generic networking and what he had to unlearn after leaving corporate structure behind to become a startup CEO. He also offers a brutally honest take on entrepreneurship, explaining why the role is not for everyone and why persistence, resilience and equanimity matter more than titles or ambition alone. We also go deep into the story behind Sub-Q Bionics and why Jordan chose to focus on lymphoedema, particularly in women recovering from cancer treatment. He explains the clinical reality of the disease, the lack of meaningful treatment options beyond maintenance, and why reimbursement, not just good technology, is often the deciding factor in whether a device company succeeds. Along the way, he shares sharp insights on women's health being chronically underfunded, the differences between the U.S. and Israeli startup ecosystems, and why mission-led companies are far more likely to stay the course when things get hard.Timestamps[00:00:32] Why Generic Conferences Rarely Create Real MedTech Opportunity[00:02:05] How Networking Shaped Jordan's Move from Boston Scientific to Israel[00:03:29] What Corporate MedTech Taught Him and What He Had to Unlearn[00:05:54] Why Being a Founder Is Not for Everyone[00:08:49] The Origin of Sub-Q Bionics and the Shift Toward True Disease Treatment[00:11:53] What Lymphoedema Actually Is and Why It Is So Devastating[00:14:06] Why Women's Health Remains Underfunded and Where Innovation Is Emerging[00:18:25] Why Reimbursement Matters More Than Technology Alone[00:20:58] U.S. vs Israel: Two Very Different Startup Ecosystems[00:25:10] Balancing Founder Life, Health, Travel and RelationshipsConnect with Jordan - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordan-pollack-81464827/Learn more about Sub-Q Bionics - https://subqbionics.com/Get in touch with Karandeep Badwal - https://www.linkedin.com/in/karandeepbadwal/ Follow Karandeep on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@KarandeepBadwalSubscribe to the Podcast
Chain of Learning: Empowering Continuous Improvement Change Leaders
You're being told to use AI. But which tool you actually need to do your best work?Leaders and change practitioners everywhere feel the same pressures right now — more meetings, more information, more mandates to adopt AI — with less time to think and less clarity about where to start. And most of the advice begins in the wrong place: with the tool.In this episode of Chain of Learning, I talk with Barry O'Reilly, bestselling author of Unlearn and Lean Enterprise, and author of the new book Artificial Organizations, about why the real opportunity with AI isn't automation. It's better judgment.Barry shares examples from his work with Fortune 500 executives who are successfully pairing human instinct with machine insight — not by adopting every new tool, but by understanding how they work, where judgment matters most, and what needs to be unlearned along the way. It's about letting go of the belief that your expertise is your competitive advantage, and starting to see AI not as a replacement, but as a thinking partner that can sharpen your clarity, your presence, and your preparation. In this episode, you'll learn:Why starting with the tool is the wrong place to start — and what to do insteadHow to identify your natural traits and highest-leverage tasks as the foundation for working with AIThe unlearning required to shift from relying on instinct alone to combining human judgment with machine insightHow successful leaders are using AI to pressure-test ideas and show up more prepared and presentWhy the skills that make you more effective with AI are the same skills that make you more influential with peopleWhere does judgment matter most in your role right now — and what might you need to unlearn to create space for a better way of working?ABOUT MY GUEST: Barry O'Reilly is the bestselling author of Unlearn and co-author of Lean Enterprise. He hosts the Unlearn Podcast and is co-founder of Nobody Studios, an AI-driven venture studio. His newest book, Artificial Organizations, is a practical guide for leaders ready to combine human and machine intelligence to make better decisions faster. Barry O'Reilly is also giving away a copy of Artificial Organizations to THREE lucky winners!Artificial Organizations explores how leaders can combine human judgment with AI to make better decisions in an increasingly complex world. Instead of focusing on AI tools, the book shows how organizations must redesign how leaders think, work, and make decisions so technology enhances clarity rather than amplifies confusion. It presents a practical leadership system for using AI as a thinking partner to improve judgment, reduce decision overload, and lead more effectively.Register now to enter the giveaway!IMPORTANT LINKS:Full episode show notes with links to other podcast episodes and resources: ChainOfLearning.com/69 Check out my website for resources and ways to work with me KBJAnderson.comConnect with Barry O'Reilly: linkedin.com/in/barryoreilly Follow me on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/kbjandersonCheck out Barry O'Reilly's book, Artificial Organizations: artificialorganizations.com Subscribe to my newsletter: kbjanderson.com/newsletter Learn more about my coaching, trusted advisor partnerships, and leadership learning experiences: organizations@kbjanderson.com RELATED LINKS:Unlearn Podcast | Intentional Leadership with Katie AndersonEpisode 59 | Get Better at Getting Better: Leveraging AI to Elevate Human Learning with Nathen HarveyTIMESTAMPS FOR THIS EPISODE:02:28 Where to start on adopting AI05:04 Importance of understanding natural traits and strengths before looking into AI tools07:12 Defining the problem first before looking for the tool to close the gap08:17 Why some may see AI as a deflection tool09:02 How to use AI for synthesizing data rather than rudimentary tasks12:28 Why judgment is the leadership advantage and leveraging AI to make better judgment12:38 Using decision velocity to improve decision making13:35 Decision advantage in synthesizing data to make a decision14:35 The difference between AI and human strengths in decision making16:26 Unlearning how you work to make progress19:32 Why human thinking plus machine equals a better outcome20:28 Examples of how to use AI to be the best business and thinking partner24:46 Importance of asking the right questions when brainstorming with AI26:06 The limitations of AI and knowing how to use it to your advantage30:18 How technology can help us be make a bigger impact33:12 The loss of psychological safety when implementing AI and unlearning this fear35:35 Better results when teams collaborate with AI vs. doing it independently36:06 Shifting from control based learning mindset to influence based learning mindset for continuous improvement37:54 Implementing AI to be the most effective in your organization40:34 How to start building an AI stack knowing your natural traits, one or two tasks, and then experimenting with an AI tool42:54 The skills that make us more effective with machines to increase influence43:16 Questions for reflection on how to implement AI in your organization Enter to win a copy of Barry's book here: https://kbjanderson.com/giveaways/book-giveaway-artificial-organizations

Most SEO teams obsess over individual AI prompts instead of topic clusters. Malte Landwehr, CMO and Chief Product Officer at Peak AI, advocates for self-reported attribution as the most reliable signal for measuring AI discoverability success over traditional traffic metrics. He outlines a systematic approach to prompt research using customer support tickets, sales transcripts, and website search data to understand authentic user language rather than vendor terminology. What happens when you step completely out of your routine - and into the wild?In this episode, I'm back from my bucket-list safari in Africa with three unexpected lessons that HIT HARD. Between hot air balloons drifting with the wind, lions roaring just feet away, and a powerful human connection with someone from a completely different world, this trip became more than an adventure - it became the reset I didn't know I needed. If you're someone who plans everything, optimizes everything, and carries a lot of responsibility (sound familiar?), these insights might stop you in your tracks - in the best way possible.Today I'm talking about:1. What happens when you stop steering your life for a moment.A sunrise hot-air balloon ride over the Maasai Mara delivered a surprising realization: sometimes freedom comes from not controlling everything.2. Why the animals on safari offered a masterclass in presence.Watching wildlife live moment-to-moment revealed how much we overcomplicate life and how powerful it can be to simply be where your feet are.3. The unexpected connection that became the most memorable moment of the trip.A quiet interaction with a Maasai guide named Dominic became a powerful reminder that human connection transcends language, culture, and circumstance.Inspired by the stillness of the safari, I made a commitment to myself:10 minutes a day of mindfulness. Not perfection. Not hour-long meditation sessions.Just ten minutes to reset, breathe, and quiet the noise of a world that often feels overwhelming. And the surprising part? It's becoming the part of the day I look forward to the most.So Thrivesters here's my challenge to you this week (pick one)Let the wind take you somewhere - leave space in your schedule for the unexpected.Be where your feet are - practice presence instead of constant multitasking.Seek out connection - because the most meaningful moments often come from the simplest interactions. Now go out there and thrive like you mean it.Looking for a little more inspiration delivered straight to your in box? Sometimes a great idea doesn't come from thinking harder — but from shifting your body. Research suggests that posture can influence how creatively and flexibly you think, meaning the position you're in during a brainstorming session could actually affect whether you have that “Eureka!” moment. Dr. Zachary Rubin, a double board-certified pediatrician and allergist/immunologist in the Chicago area and author of All About Allergies: Everything You Need to Know About Asthma, Food Allergies, Hay Fever, and More (https://amzn.to/401KdW5) explains why allergies appear to be on the rise, why many people think they have allergies but don't, and what's really happening inside your immune system when a true allergic reaction occurs. Have you ever agreed to something you didn't want to do, apologized when it wasn't your fault, or stayed silent when you knew you should speak up? These patterns can feel automatic — almost out of your control. Kati Morton, licensed marriage and family therapist and author of Why Do I Keep Doing This?: Unlearn the Habits Keeping You Stuck and Unhappy (https://amzn.to/3ZDmcV3) explains why these self-sabotaging behaviors form, why they repeat, and how to finally interrupt them. One of the main reasons people exercise is to lose weight. It seems logical: burn more calories, lose more fat. But the science tells a more complicated story. Exercise is incredibly important for health — but when it comes to shedding pounds, its impact may be far smaller than most people believe. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3925973/ PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS QUINCE: Refresh your wardrobe with Quince! Narcissism has become one of the most misused words in mental health — and social media hasn't helped. In this episode, host Gabe Howard is joined by licensed marriage and family therapist Kati Morton to separate clinical reality from internet myth. Together, they break down what narcissistic personality disorder actually is, why confidence and disagreement don't equal narcissism, and how terms like “gaslighting” and “love bombing” get distorted online. We answer common questions like: Can people with narcissistic personality disorder learn empathy? How can loved ones' support change without sacrificing their safety or boundaries? If narcissism is a mental illness, why do we have trouble feeling compassion for people who have it? Finally, Gabe and Kati discuss whether people with narcissistic personality disorder can change, what meaningful treatment actually looks like, and how loved ones can protect themselves while setting healthy boundaries. “If social media were accurate, narcissism would describe anyone who annoys us. But clinically? It's something very different.” ~Kati Morton, author of “Why Do I Keep Doing This? Unlearn the Habits That Keep You Stuck and Unhappy” Our guest, Kati Morton, is widely recognized as a leading mental health advocate and educator. She holds a masters in clinical psychology and is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has a passion for education and empowerment and shares helpful insights through her YouTube channel. Kati is the author of three books “Are You Ok?,” “Traumatized,” and “Why Do I Keep Doing This? Unlearn the Habits Keeping You Stuck and Unhappy.” She hopes that by speaking candidly about mental health and encouraging viewers to reach out to get the support they need, we can remove the stigma associated with getting help. School is marketed as key to success in life. Yet if we look at what defines real success and an exceptional life, much of what we are trained to do in school is an impediment to our goals. What if chronic pain was caused by faulty wiring in your brain? And that one shift in understanding can open the door to relief many people never thought was possible.Chronic pain affects tens of millions, disrupts relationships, limits work, and quietly erodes joy. Yet for many, scans, surgeries, and medications never bring lasting relief. In this conversation, we explore why pain can persist long after the body has healed and what helps the brain finally stand down.My guest is Yoni K. Ashar, PhD, assistant professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and director of the Pain and Emotion Research Laboratory. His research uses brain imaging and clinical neuroscience to study chronic pain recovery, with a focus on Pain Reprocessing Therapy. In this episode, you'll learnA key signal that reveals when pain is driven by the brain, not injuryA simple shift that helps interrupt the pain–fear cycleWhy imaging findings can distract from the true source of painHow the right kind of gradual exposure retrains the brain to feel safe againWhat decades of pain research reveal about lasting recoveryWhy we've gotten pain wrong for so long, and how to get it rightIf you've tried everything and still hurt, this conversation may offer a new way to understand your pain and a path toward relief.
