Send us a textWe had an opportunity to attend a fundraiser earlier in the year for Wingshooters.org and it impressed me so much, I had to get the founder/CEO on the podcast. Greg McClelland shares his story and how he finds solace in the woods. Be sure to listen on your favorite podcast app.2:29 – It's humbling to see the support from folks who, honestly, don't have any skin in the game at all8:36 – I was taught to respect fences, but if there weren't any fences, I just assumed that it was free 13:34 – My roommate dared me to come with him, I didn't want to be a cop. I ended up doint it on a fluke and just kept passing these interviews, even though I was half insubordinate and pretty cocky. 22:28 – The outdoor recreation, hunting, being in the woods, gun smoke, campfire and bro time, talking sh*t. It makes me feel better. It's got to help these same guys, right? 28:20 – My goal is to build a network of like-minded organizations where we can plug folks in.40:33 – Anything any organization can do, as long as it's honorable and for the right reasons, man, I'm all for it; any way we can partner and help, I'm glad to do it.Special thanks to Maxxis Tires for support and sponsorship of this podcast.Be sure to listen on your favorite podcast app.Support the show

Public education was nice while we had it, too bad it's being lit on fire (like everything else). And yes, it is James Dobson's fault (also like everything else). Today, Jake and Brooke explore Dobson's influence in the homeschooling movement - and hear from the big D himself. So, you have that to look forward to in this episode I guess.References:Campbell, F. Today's episode is one I'm especially excited to share with you. Whether you're an Executive Function expert or you're just starting out learning about these essential life skills, you'll want to listen because we have not one but *two* Executive Function leaders featured.First up, I'm so happy to have been joined once again by the OG of Executive Function awareness, Ellen Galinsky, who sat down with me on Focus Forward in March of 2024 when her book, The Breakthrough Years, came out. Ellen is the President of the Families and Work Institute and the elected President of the Work and Family Researchers Network (WFRN). She also serves as senior research advisor to AASA, the School Superintendent Organization. Previously, she was the Chief Science Officer at the Bezos Family Foundation and faculty at Bank Street College. Her research has focused on the impact of work-life on families, child and adolescent development, youth voice, child-care, parent-professional relationship, and parental development. Ellen's work has contributed deeply to how we understand children's learning and development - and how we, as adults, can nurture it. Our second Executive Function leader is Dr. Megan McClelland, an internationally recognized expert on school readiness and self-regulation in very young children. She is the Katherine E. Smith Professor of Human Development and Family Sciences at Oregon State University, where she also directs the Hallie E. Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families. Megan's research focuses on optimizing children's development, especially as it relates to children's self-regulation, early learning, and school success. Her recent work has examined links between self-regulation and long-term outcomes from early childhood to adulthood and intervention efforts to improve these skills in young children. She is currently involved with multiple national and international projects to develop measures of self-regulation and improve school success in young children. Megan is also the co-author of Stop, Think, Act, a book all about how we as educators and parents can help our kids strengthen their EF skills through play.Today, you'll hear us talk about why executive function skills matter and how we can help kids strengthen them through everyday activities - Megan and Ellen help parents and educators see that we learn when we play! Whether you're a parent, educator, or just someone who cares about kids' success in the long run, this episode is full of insights you won't want to miss.I hope you enjoy listening! In this episode, NBN host Hollay Ghadery chops it up with poet Rob Winger about his collection, It Doesn't Matter What We Meant by Rob Winger (McClelland & Stewart, 2021). This is an astonishing collection of poems that question perception, meaning, and context. How does private thinking align with public action? And what might it mean to intend something anyhow? To name our particulars? To translate from the personal to the communal, the pedestrian to the universal? In Rob Winger's new collection of poetry, such questions are less a circulatory system--heart and lungs and blood--than a ribcage, a structure that protects the parts that matter most. "I'd like to think," Winger writes, "it doesn't matter / what we meant." But is that right? Could it ever be? Partly an investigation of system versus system error, It Doesn't Matter What We Meant asks us to own up to our own inherited contexts, our own luck or misfortune, our own ways of moving through each weekday. From meditations on sleepy wind turbines to Voyager 1's dormant thrusters, from country road culverts to the factory floor's punch clock, from allied English-to-English folkloric translations to the crumbling limestone of misremembered basements, this is poetry that complicates what it means to live within and beyond the languages, lexicons, and locations around us. About Rob Winger: ROB WINGER is the author of three previous collections of poetry, including Muybridge's Horse, a Globe and Mail Best Book and CBC Literary Award winner shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award, Trillium Book Award for Poetry, and Ottawa Book Award. He lives in the hills northeast of Toronto, where he teaches at Trent University. About Hollay Ghadery: Hollay Ghadery is an Iranian-Canadian multi-genre writer living in Ontario on Anishinaabe land. Nancy McClelland is the Owner of The Dancing Accountant, a firm specializing in bookkeeping, tax preparation, accounting, and advisory services for small businesses. With over 30 years of experience, she helps businesses streamline financial processes, improve compliance, and adopt best practices. Nancy also educates bookkeepers through her Ask a CPA membership community and writes an award-winning blog at TheDancingAccountant.com. She has been recognized as a Top Client Services ProAdvisor and one of Ignition's Top 50 Women in Accounting. In this episode… Managing your business finances can feel overwhelming — especially when your bookkeeper and tax accountant seem to operate in completely separate worlds. Without clear communication between them, mistakes happen, deadlines get missed, and tax season turns into a stressful scramble. So how can you ensure these key financial professionals are working together to support your business success? According to Nancy McClelland, a nationally recognized CPA and financial educator, alignment starts with clear roles, regular communication, and a shared commitment to accuracy. She highlights that many business owners assume hiring both professionals means everything is handled, but in reality, lack of coordination leads to costly errors and duplicated work. By fostering a team mindset, setting clear expectations, and ensuring that financial records are tax-ready year-round, small businesses can avoid last-minute panic and make better financial decisions. Nancy also emphasizes that technology can bridge communication gaps, making it easier for bookkeepers and tax accountants to collaborate effectively. In this episode of the Financial Clarity podcast, host Hannah Smolinski sits down with Nancy McClelland, Owner of The Dancing Accountant, to discuss how business owners can align their bookkeeper and tax accountant for financial success. They break down the importance of defining responsibilities, creating an accountability chart, and scheduling regular check-ins. Nancy also gives practical advice on leveraging technology to streamline bookkeeping and tax preparation.
