As we approach Christmas, this sermon invites us to reflect on the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, whose extraordinary faith and obedience demonstrate three profound truths: God's divine calling, His limitless power, and His unchanging faithfulness. Mary, a humble young woman from Nazareth, was chosen not because of her status but because of God's sovereign grace. Her story challenges us to trust in God's plans, even when they seem beyond our understanding, and to believe in His ability to accomplish the impossible. Mary's unwavering faith in God's promises, despite the uncertainty she faced, reminds us that God's faithfulness endures across generations. As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, let us also prepare our hearts for His return, living with faith, hope, and anticipation. Like Mary, may we respond to God's calling with a heart of surrender and trust in His perfect plan.

Characters of Christmas: Mary, Mother of JesusLuke 1:26-3826 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[a] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”38 “I am the Lord's servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Through nostalgic reflections, we draw unexpected parallels between the familiar Preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the timeless Nativity story, urging a fresh perspective on Jesus' birth. By examining the real human experiences of Mary and Joseph, we reveal the beauty and significance of their faith, even against a backdrop of political tension and danger.Reflect on the transformative power of saying 'yes' to God's call, as illustrated by Mary and Joseph's unwavering obedience and trust. Their example inspires us to consider the potential transformations in our own lives if we fully commit to trusting a higher purpose. From the historical moments of peace like the Christmas Truce during World War I to the grace and joy brought by Jesus's birth, we are reminded of the duality of faith and fear we live with and how embracing a greater purpose can lead to hope and renewal. POV Christmas, part 1
The Christmas story is filled with wonder—God using unlikely people, like Mary, to give birth to Jesus, and the shepherds and wise men coming to worship Him. Yet, it is also marked by suffering: Mary's pregnancy in a hyper-religious culture, the journey to Bethlehem, and fleeing from Herod. Similarly, when we choose to follow God and allow Him to work through us, we will inevitably face opposition from the world.
Are you willing to trust God in anything he sends into your life, whether you understand it or not? Jaci shared an inspiring message on how we can best respond to the gift of Christmas, looking at Mary's Faith. Though Mary might seem like a hero of faith, her story shows us that we, too, can respond in faith to God's extraordinary plans. Unwrapping Christmas - Mary's Faith | Jaci Mun-Gavin

Today, we continue our third Advent series character as we explore Mary, the Simple Girl at the Center of Everything. Our initial scripture for today is Luke 1:26-45, on pages 1588-89 in the pew Bible. Follow along as I read. The Birth of Jesus Foretold 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Mary Visits Elizabeth 39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” The city of...
The spirit of Christmas is often described with words like “holiday cheer” or “season's greetings” but what if Christmas could be a lot bigger than that? What if the Holy Spirit has more for your family this December? There are four divine encounters with angels that show us the spirit of Christmas is not just a time for eggnog and gift-wrap, but a Spirit pointing us to the reality of King Jesus.

Hi friends! We are continuing our Characters of Christmas series with my guest Jami Nato. Jami was on The Happy Hour back in 2016. We re-aired that episode in 2021 during our Flashback Friday podcast series, and now Jami is back with us to talk all about Mary, the mother of Jesus. Maybe December is a hard month for you or maybe 2022 has been a particularly challenging year for you. I want to encourage you to lean into this last month of the year standing on something that is unshakeable: Jesus Christ. On today's episode, Jami and I talk about how Mary's character points us to Jesus, and Jami tells us what she observes about the character of God through Mary's role in His birth. Jami talked about how God built a community for Mary because He knew she would be afraid, and how even during His death, He provided for Mary. The beautiful thing is that Jesus is doing the same thing for us today. He knows that we are afraid of certain things, so He creates community for us. Then, with the Holy Spirit living inside of us as believers, He still guides us and gives us provision. That is the hope that you can stand on in this season. I hope you were encouraged during this episode and that you walk away from listening knowing that even during the hard days, you can still have joy, hope and peace through Jesus Christ.
