Mary. Joseph. Zechariah. Some of the key figures in the Christmas story have one thing in common: They received prophetic messages that changed absolutely everything. In the Book of Luke, we see an angel arrive with a jarring message for Zechariah. Then, Mary and Joseph are given stunning proclamations about what's to come — events that change the course of their lives and of human history. How do they all react, and what do their responses tell us? Beyond that, how do these promises fulfill Old Testament prophecies? This second episode of the show dives into these themes and more. Join Greg Laurie, Jeff Kinley, Ray Comfort, Jesse Bradley, Shane Idleman, and CBN's Billy Hallowell for this must-hear conversation. And on the third chapter of “Jesus and the Prophecies of Christ" — which will be released December 21 — we'll explore where Jesus is predicted in the Old Testament hundreds of years before the nativity.
Join us as we talk about Mary & Joseph's story and some of the truths we learn about their inconvenient, difficult, and amazing Christmas.
Today we look at how a 14 yr old girl and a tradesman change the trajectory of human history.
This week we started our new Christmas series, "Christmas List", where we identify some keys to life from the characters within the Christmas story. In this week of our new series, Pastor Matt explains what keys to life we can learn from Mary & Joseph.
We have seen that Matthew, writing near the middle or end of the first century, is presenting a picture of Jesus as no ordinary man, but as the Messiah. Last Sunday we looked at the magi and their announcement and celebration of the birth of the King of the Jews. The opposition to God's plan begins with Herod's obsession to see the child (this rival king) destroyed. It falls on two humans--Joseph and Mary--to protect and raise the young child. Listen to the surprising way God looks at you in the same way he looked at Mary/Joseph.Steve Coleman

Mary has her own stress of trying to convince everyone she is telling the truth. Joseph also has a crazy dilemma to wrestle with, truth or lying…. And how to best respond. It is interesting he planned to respond with Grace even though he didn't believe her. We have SO MUCH to learn about this story. ENJOY!! In this message, Pastor Peter highlights the story of Mary and Joseph and the wonder of their calling and obedience.
We have hope because God is the Author of our story, and we are not. We have hope because we are not alone. We have hope because Jesus is the protagonist of our story. We have hope because God is the Author The Author and Finisher of our faith is the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word is Jesus, and the language the Author speaks is Christ. When God spoke and wrote the story of redemption, His speech wasn't in the mode of sentences or nouns or verbs or articles or predicates. The language He spoke in the New Covenant was Jesus. We have hope because we are not alone God. Is writing. Your. Story. And in the story God writes for you, you are not the only character in your story. You do not walk alone. Heaven is cheering you on right now. Can you hear it? Listen to the great crowd of witnesses who surround you right now. We have hope because Jesus is the protagonist of our story But perhaps the best part of your story is that you are not the protagonist of it. Jesus is. Jesus is the protagonist. The victor. The firstborn. And this is our hope. As Mentioned in the Podcast The FCC requires that I tell you that I'm an Amazon Affiliate, which means I earn a bit of commission on each sale. 12/11/22 Mary and Joseph teach us that Joy grows and expands not from fleeting spikes in good moods or news, but in the steadfast commitment to see things to completion.
Part 3 - SERIES: Mary's Christmas Mary was an exceptional young women, a great example to us in her obedience and faithfulness to God. But her saying yes to God was also saying yes to struggle and suffering. This week we see Mary & Joseph's obedience affect Jesus's. While he was young they had him circumcised and dedicated to the Lord according to the Law. Their obedience as parents would affect his future obedience. But it also lead to their own struggles. Mary would face many heartaches due to following God, however she kept going and God was faithful in his goodness to her. It's the same for us. Obedience and faithfulness to God will bring struggle in this broken world, so keep your eyes on the destination!
We will revisit a well-worn story of a God who loves nearness with us and whose hallmark and name bear His With-ness. A story that started in the garden and ends in eternity. A story of a God who has taken the form of a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night, AND who put on flesh and dwelt among us. A story of the infinite turned infant. A story of a God whose kingdom has come, is here now, and will be forever. A story of 400 years of silence broken by the cries of a baby. A story of a God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and started His life in the trough of cows. This is the story of hope. For the next four weeks, we will follow the themes of the Advent candles we light each Sunday: Today, in Episode 140, we'll speak of hope Next week, we'll speak about faith In our third week together, we'll speak of joy And our final week of Advent – and our final episode of 2022 – we'll speak about peace. Key Quotes “Hope is a gift as good as done.” - Jill E. McCormick “Because Jesus is hope and Jesus is life, the opposite of hope is death.” - Jill E. McCormick “Death is the sound of an apple crunching. And hope is the sound of the cry of a baby, the hammer of a nail through divine flesh, the grinding of a gravestone rolling along loose gravel.” - Jill E. As we interact with family members we only see a few times a year, and those who may hold political views or perspectives 180 degrees opposite of us, we see our humanity, our sin, our frailty, and our cracks more clearly now than at any other time of the year. We are especially conscious of wanting to be healthy and whole, and to act out of love, not fear of missing out or obligation during these weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's like every issue or frustration or shame or guilt comes to light during the height of the emotions and togetherness of the season. How can we be gracious and act in love? In this conversation, Sara shares Jesus-centered wisdom about What's really going on when you feel pressure to make every moment magical, How to give yourself permission to opt out of every holiday invitation Ways to host family members who think and vote differently than you do How to ask for help during the holidays without being bossy or passive-aggressive.
