The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and Canadian Premier League chat. British Columbia is under a heat dome, but thankfully the Whitecaps lifted some of the dark clouds over the team this weekend with a battling draw in Seattle to end a five game losing streak. It wasn't enough to stop them sinking to bottom in the West but it's given some hope. We pick over the bones of that game and the midweek loss to LA Galaxy, hear from head coach Marc Dos Santos and DP striker Lucas Cavallini, and look ahead at how the 'Caps can build on a positive performance. They still need a number 10 badly. Is Scottish player Ryan Gauld the man? We chat about the transfer rumour we broke and hear MDS' thoughts on the player. The Canadian Premier League kicked off this weekend and our feature interview this episode is with new FC Edmonton head coach Alan Koch as we talk about building the Eddies roster and what to expect from the side this season. Plus we hear from CPL commissioner David Clanachan, Pacific FC head coach Pa Modou Kah, and HFX Wanderers' Stephen Hart. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode: 01.45: Intro and football cards 05.32: The aftermath of the Whitecaps loss to LA 16.20: Whitecaps v Sounders - postgame analysis with audio from MDS and Cavalliini 65.31: Ryan Gauld - what would the Whitecaps get? First, they dive into both finalists, Forge FC and the Halifax Wanderers, and what they can expect from both of them heading into the final. Forge has an upper-hand based on experience, but Halifax has looked good all tournament long, and can lay claim to being a sort of bogey team for Forge these past 2 years. After that, they look at the nominees for the CPL's individual awards, which were announced on Friday, and pick a winner for each of them, which include MVP, Golden Glove, U21 player of the year and coach of the year. Then, they look at what each of the other CPL teams could learn from this season, as well as what Forge and Halifax have done, as they've done a good job at highlighting the importance of finding depth to surround your high-end talent. Lastly, they break down some of the interesting nuggets from David Clanachan's press conference today, as the CPL commissioner dropped some interesting stuff about a potential 2021 season, what teams can do to stay fit in the offseason and some news on 2021 kits.

Welcome back to the 29th episode of the Third Sub! In this one, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to do a special all-Canadian Premier League-themed episode. With the league's recently announced return-to-play plan, the 'Island Games', which will take place in Charlottetown, P.E.I., they take the time to break things down, and tip their hat to the league for taking the time to properly ensure that health-and-safety protocol was met in this plan. After that, they look at the press conference held by commissioner David Clanachan the day prior, as they break down some of his comments, including talk about the PFACan, TV broadcast deals and health protocols. They show their support for the PFACan, state the importance of broadcasting these games on TV, and share why they think this saftey protocol has the chance to be among some of the best in North America in terms of sports returning to play. To round off this episode, they break down their way-too-early tier lists for teams at this tournament, before giving a best and worst-case scenario for each team, while also picking some dark horses and teams to watch. The last 20 minutes of the episode are then taken by Alex, as he shares the audio from a recent interview he conducted with Terran Campbell, who spoke to Alex about some interesting topics, including his impressions of his first CPL season, his goals for the future, Black Lives Matter, and much more. (You can find the written interview here!). Stay tuned for future episodes of the Third Sub, as there will be a more in-depth preview of the tournament in future weeks, including a look into the teams and the players they'll be bringing to P.E.I.
