Lots of discussion about Calgary's two pro teams and the vastly different trajectories they are on this season.Cavalry FC demolished Pacific FC last weekend and are now going to Hamilton for a top of the table clash with Forge on Sunday.Meanwhile, the Calgary Wild lost their match vs Halifax on Sunday in a manner that was very similar to Pacific's performance only a couple hours earlier.  We don't usually have the "explicit" checkbox for our episodes, but commenting about this match resulted in that box being checked this week. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and Canadian national team chat. The first part of the MLS season wound up this weekend with the last round of matches ahead of the World Cup break. Plus we chat with head coach Jesper Sorensen about what he's made of the season to date and whether he's looking to strengthen the side in the upcoming transfer window. One man back for the Whitecaps before the break was Ralph Priso and we bring you some audio from Ralph as we chat about his return from injury, his chances of making Canada's World Cup roster, and whether he allows himself to dream of being at the tournament this summer. Plus we select our 26-man Canadian roster ahead of Friday's official announcement. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Pacific FC, Vancouver FC, Vancouver Rise and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who are coming off a busy week, one that saw them take on the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo in an eight-day span. They did pretty well to get four points out of those matches, which were all on the road, but given the high standard they've set for themselves, they'll also feel they could've gotten even more out of those matches. Yet, as has been the case for much of the season, their attack has had some question marks surrounding it, while their defence has continued to play a big role in the results they've picked up. As a result, they'll look to avenge that set of results in their final MLS match before the World Cup break, which will see them take on San Diego FC on the road, in what is a rematch of the 2025 Western Conference final, with the Whitecaps aiming to pick up a big win to help maintain their lead atop the MLS Supporters' Shield standings. Otherwise, there's been a lot of news to follow elsewhere in BC, with the big one being the departure of head coach James Merriman from Pacific FC. They dive into that news, before catching up with Vancouver FC's strange start to the season, in a CPL roundup section, before looking at the latest out of the Vancouver Rise, who are finally in the win column in NSL play. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Rise, Vancouver FC, Pacific FC and more. To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who have continued to roll along in MLS play. Now, though, with their lengthy homestand now over, the rubber will hit the road for the Whitecaps, who have already begun the hefty road trip that awaits them on the schedule - a byproduct of BC Place hosting World Cup games. They got the road trip off to a decent start, drawing the LA Galaxy 1-1, a result they'll live with after winning their last four home games, but they'll look to get back to winning ways as they get set for a pivotal top-of-the-table clash against the San Jose Earthquakes (and then a couple of tough away games in Texas). Amid all of the happenings on the pitch, however, there's been a lot happening off it, as the future of the club continues to remain a big talking point within Vancouver and across MLS. After all of the latest updates, Alex and Sam dive into what they make of this whole situation, as the 'Save the Caps' movement starts to really take hold among Vancouver supporters - and the rest of MLS, as a whole. Lastly, they finish the show with a round-up of local soccer talking points, including the Vancouver Rise's slow start, Vancouver FC's improved play, Pacific FC's struggles and the start of the 2026 Canadian Championship.

To begin, they dive into the latest out of the Whitecaps, who are back in action after a quiet end to August and start to September. Now, with a strange portion of their schedule behind them, they'll get set for a busy end to the 2025 regular season, while also tackling a massive Canadian Championship game in there for good measure. After some good rest, can they return to their best in that stretch? They'll hope that can be the case as they continue to welcome back some key reinforcements, further integrate new ones, and return to what worked well for them earlier in the year. They haven't been given an easy schedule to start this stretch, as they'll face the MLS-leading Philadelphia Union before taking on Forge FC in the second leg of the Canadian Championship semi-finals a few days later, but they've got a chance to make a bit of a statement in both matches. Meanwhile, elsewhere in B.C., Vancouver FC is getting set to take on Atlético Ottawa in leg two of the other semi-final - a tie they currently lead 3-1 after a shock home victory in leg one. Having had a tough regular season campaign to date, they'd love to continue a remarkable run in the cup, so look for them to pull some magic out of their hat in this tie. Before then, though, a cool match awaits them in Canadian Premier League action against rivals Pacific FC, who themselves are also looking to get out of a bit of a rut of their own in league play. A match played at a new site, Victoria's Royal Athletic Park, both teams will hope that playing in front of a sold-out crowd provides them with a bit of a boost. Lastly, the Vancouver Rise are on fire, as they're now undefeated in eight matches, allowing them to push right up the Northern Super League table. All of a sudden, first place is in reach, and it's hard to see them slowing down with how good they're playing - and they continue to add to the roster, as seen with moves such as the surprise signing of Montréal Roses forward Latifah Abdu. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to dive into all things Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Rise, Vancouver FC, Pacific FC and more. To begin, they dive into the big news out of Whitecaps-land, as they chat about the story that has caught not just the attention of the rest of MLS, but the entire soccer world - the arrival of German footballing legend Thomas Müller at the Vancouver Whitecaps. A huge coup for the 'Caps, given Müller's status as a top player and global star, they dive into why this move seems to be such a no-brainer for all parties involved. From Müller's ability to fit in this Whitecaps team, to the commercial opportunities it provides, and what this could mean for the future of the Whitecaps, this seems to be a move that could elevate the Whitecaps to another level, showing why the hype is understandably high in Vancouver right now. After that, they look at what's ahead for the Whitecaps, who had a bit of a break after beating Sporting KC in MLS play in late-July, as they now get set to dive into a busy week of action in MLS and Canadian Championship play. From there, they dive into what's next for Vancouver FC and Pacific FC, who are set to face each other in a crucial Salish Sea Derby in Canadian Premier League action this weekend. After both picked up wins this past week, while also making a couple of key transfers, it's ramped up the pressure on both to win this derby match, which will hopefully lead to an entertaining matchup. Elsewhere, they dive into the latest out of the Vancouver Rise, who are coming off a chaotic 3-3 draw vs. the Ottawa Rapid, as they continue to show signs of progress in their inaugural season, despite that result. Lastly, they take a look out of how the end of the League 1 BC season went down, as Altitude claimed the women's regular season title, and Langley United the men's regular season title, capping off another entertaining season of L1BC action. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

As a result, Alex and Sam look into the aftermath of all of those bits of news for the Whitecaps, which have had a significant impact on those 'Caps for very different reasons. In particular, things are pointing towards the Whitecaps having a busy transfer window, as they look to maximize their contention window and keep it open as long as possible. Afterwards, they take a look at the latest out of the Vancouver Rise, who are catching form in NSL play at just the right time, showing signs of a newfound tactical identity on both sides of the ball. Lastly, they chat about the big movement coming out of the CPL teams in BC, as Vancouver FC have made the big decision to part ways with Afshin Ghotbi and replaced him with Martin Nash on an interim basis, while Pacific have brought home former striker Alejandro Díaz in a big coup for a team struggling to score. Make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast on Twitter, @thirdsubpod, as well as on Instagram, @the3rdsub_.

We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and Canadian national team chat. The Whitecaps didn't get back to winning ways in Toronto but they took a point on the road and that's rarely a bad thing. We delve into the goalless draw against TFC and the main takeaways from the match, that sadly saw injuries to Andres Cubas and Mathias Laborda. Can we read much into the recent blips? Will the team be hampered now against Pumas in the Champions Cup? And how does the weekend's results leave the 'Caps in the lie of the land in the MLS West? We talk about all of that and more and chat with WFC2 standout Nelson Pierre, who made it three goals in three games on Saturday. We've two feature interviews for you this episode. First up is a chat with MLS Apple TV analyst, and former scourge of MLS defences everywhere, Sacha Kljestan. We get Sacha's thoughts about the Whitecaps start to the season, their key players, and the MLS West, plus we talk about his continuing US Open Cup run with Des Moines Menace, switching to punditry, and the US national team woes and whether Brian White can save them. Turning our attention to the CPL, we chat with Pacific FC head coach James Merriman ahead of the new season that gets underway next weekend. We look back at last season, the offseason rebuild, the season ahead, plans for youth players and L1BC, and more. Plus we find out if new Pacific addition, Whitecaps loanee goalkeeper Max Anchor, fancies a chocolate digestive! And after another eventful week for Canada Soccer we talk about the blame game and fingerpointing around Alphonso Davies' injury by Bayern Munich and his agent against the CSA, plus Zach regales us will tales of his trip to the CONCACAF Nations League finals and we look at the admonishment handed out to former men's national team coach John Herdman. Music-wise Athena feature in Wavelength, Sleeper wrap up their residency as our Album of the Month, there's a Britpop song from Joyrider, and special song from Franz Ferdinand that we're dedicating to Lorenzo Insigne. We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, Canadian Premier League, and CONCACAF Nations League chat and we're joined by AFTN writer Felipe Vallejo this week to talk about it all. Canada went into the CONCACAF Nations League finals with real hope of lifting their first trophy in 25 years, but a semi-final loss to Mexico shattered those dreams, before a feelgood win over the US end the tournament on a high for Les Rouges. We pick over the bones of both matches, the lessons that can be learned from them, and what some of the performances of individual players may mean for the future. Is Alphonso Davies still trying to do too much? Are some of the old guard needing to step aside? Do we have a number one goalkeeper at the moment? We chat about all of that and more. Turning our attention to the club game, Vancouver Whitecaps lost their first MLS match of the season, when a short-handed and disjointed side fell at home to Chicago. A mere blip to their good start, some real concerns about depth, or a mixture of both? We look back at the game, what can be taken from it, and look ahead to getting back on track in the Canadian derby against a poor Toronto side. Our feature interview this episode is with a Whitecaps first-teamer that's gone out for loan to the CPL for the season, goalkeeper Max Anchor. We chat to Max about his move to Pacific FC, his footballing journey so far, some of the new goalkeeper rules, and more. It's also Football Violence Awareness Month at AFTN Towers and we review the Netflix Polish football hooligan drama Kibic, while Antisocial feature in Wavelength. Plus Sleeper continue their residency as our Album of the Month, there's another Britpop song from Ash, and we talk World Cup qualification, the US Open Cup, and the new UK Ballers League. The Whitecaps added two players and we chat with one of them, University of North Carolina Freshman Tate Johnson who was picked by the 'Caps in the first round. We also chat with Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster about the team's two draft picks and we get a tantalising little tease about the search for a new manager. It looks like it's done and it's not a Canadian! It's been a busy week for the new club in town, NSL side Vancouver Rise, who announced their first five signings. We look back at who has been revealed so far, hear from the club's first signing, Canadian defender Shannon Woeller, and talk with club President Sinead King about a couple of off the pitch aspects of the new team.
