Listen to today's podcast... Roses are red, Violets are Blue Stinky feet? Try some perfume. Fragrance Day is a celebration for the olfactory nerves in your nose. There is nothing like the scent of a good wine, a beautiful flower, the coming of spring, fresh baked cookies or a touch of perfume. The sense of smell, called olfaction, involves the detection and perception of chemicals floating in the air. The olfactory tract transmits these signals to the brain, particularly the limbic system. The limbic system is involved with emotional behavior and memory which is why when you smell something, it often brings back memories associated with the object. The connection between smell and memory happens almost immediately for us.  Baby's recognize the smell of their mother. No two people have the exact same odor-identity or “smell fingerprint” which is determined by many factors including: our genes, skin type, diet, medicine, mood state and even the weather. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!      Here are today's Tips To Celebrating Fragrance Day: Use different smells to purposefully relax you, energize you or excite you.  Citrus provides energy and lavender can help you to relax.  You can buy room fresheners, candles and even incense to add that dash of fragrance. Take a fragrance walk. Now is an excellent time to get out and notice the smells of spring such as the melting snow or the first flowers. So Happy smelling! Ask Jim Miller

In this Thanksgiving week edition of Monday Morning Pep Talk, I'm diving into one of the most transformative topics: gratitude. For over a decade, I've anchored my mindset around a simple affirmation that begins with, “I am so happy and grateful...” This practice has become a cornerstone of my success and ability to navigate both challenges and opportunities. In today's episode, I'll share the story behind my personal affirmation, why I started using it, and how it's shaped my mindset and outcomes. Before we dive in, let me remind you of my professional purpose: to help you, the full-service, full-fee advisor, optimize your productivity and grow into the best version of yourself. Why? Because Happy Advisors Sell More Real Estate. I do this by helping you navigate challenges and opportunities every day. As you listen, imagine we're having a one-on-one coaching session, elevating your approach to life and business. The Story Behind My Affirmation In 2010, during a challenging professional season, I realized I needed to sustain a positive mindset to succeed. I turned to Bob Proctor (You Were Born Rich) and John Assaraf (The Answer), who taught me the power of affirmations—intentional declarations that reprogram your subconscious mind and align your thoughts with your goals. That's when I created my affirmation, which I've repeated tens of thousands of times since. It's been my guide, grounding prayer, and battle cry through every season of life. Breaking Down the Affirmation Here's how my affirmation is structured: “I AM” A declaration of identity and intention. “So Happy and Grateful” Reinforces positivity and abundance. “Money, Success, and Introductions Flow to Me” Focuses on meaningful connections and personal fulfillment. “In Ever-Increasing Quantities” Acknowledges the compounding effect of consistent effort. “From a Myriad of Different Sources” Emphasizes openness to opportunities from all directions. “For the Betterment of All Those Involved” Grounds success in shared growth and mutual value. “My Life is Perfect” A reframing of perfection as perspective. “Every Day, in Every Way, I'm Getting Better and Better” Inspired by James Clear, this reflects a commitment to continuous improvement. The Power of Gratitude As we approach Thanksgiving, this affirmation reminds me of gratitude's ability to shift our mindset and attract opportunities. When we consistently maintain a frequency of positivity above 51%, we create alignment for success in life and business. Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for being part of this journey. Let's continue building lives and businesses that are both predictable and enjoyable.

Bedrooms, bathrooms, and bookshelves. All other people's places we should be staying out of unless invited. Especially if you're a fascist. Martha Brockenbrough is here! Talking Kidlit for Kamala, continuing children's lit education, and the frankly shocking number of books about bigfoot that one person can write. But mostly Kidlit for Kamala! A reminder from Martha: everything is political. All the things we take for granted, all the comforts and joys and holidays and benefits ingrained in our lives were things our forebears had to fight for until codified through political processes. Politics isn't the start of change, it's the end result of action. ------- DON'T MISS AN EPISODE! Sign up for our newsletter here! This episode's book reviews: THE LAW OF BIRTHDAYS by Brenna! Feeling tethered to your screens? Doomscrolling much? Have you gotten that little message from your phone, ratting you out, informing you that "you spent an average of XX hours and xx minutes daily of screen time"?? Do you wish you could set some better boundaries with tech/social media/screens in general? Let's face it, our devices are here to stay. How can we make them work FOR US, instead of distracting us from the personal connections we need? How are we supposed to "multitask"?? Is the human brain even capable of such a feat?? Cue our expert in human-computer interaction (HCI), Gloria Mark, PhD! WE ARE SO FORTUNATE to be able to pick her brain about how to make OUR BRAINS better at prioritizing our precious mental currency: OUR ATTENTION. Dr. Mark is the author of Attention Span and Multitasking in the Digital Age, the Chancellor's Professor of Informatics at UC Irvine, and has published over 200 papers in top academic journals, and appeared in scores of platforms, including the New York Times, BBC, NPR, the Atlantic, and recently on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard (check it out, the episode is GREAT!) We are aware that we likely outkicked our coverage, and are SO HAPPY to share Dr. Mark's expertise with y'all. Strap in, pay attention, this is a can't-miss episode, friends! :) Topics in this episode include: The MYTH of multitasking. What is "distraction cost'? How attempting to "multitask" affects our brains and bodies (hint: stress!) Is it really the "notifications" on our phones that are distracting us, or is it something else? Are we really "victims of the algorithm" when it comes to social media? How can being "information rich" make us "attention poor"? How can we be aware of our "urges" to check our phones/email/computer and become more intentional in our use of devices? Learn more about Dr. Mark's work at her website. Her latest book, Attention Span, is available nationwide wherever books are sold! Learn more about her book here. Your Doctor Friends have some BIG THINGS in the works for "refreshing" the pod, and how we deliver meaningful, usable, valid health education to YOU, our dear friends! You'll be hearing some "upcycled" episodes this summer while we work on implementing these changes, and we will be back in full force in the next month or so with a brand new haircut ;) Thanks for tuning in, friends! Well that aged poorly. We recorded this in October and were very sneaky about dancing around things that haven't been announced yet. But go and check our guest's social media or website and you'll find that Jessica Stremer has - within two calendar years - a full six books announced and in the pipeline. WHEW! Out now are the delightful Great Carrier Reef and Lights Out, and her middle grade Fire Escape releases in just a couple months.  I, for one, don't know how she does it and am in awe.
