The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to children in need around the world. Through this project, Samaritan's Purse partners with the local church worldwide to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and make disciples of the nations. This show originally aired 12/11/24

Thursday - John 13-16•. Friday - John 17-21Home Church Questions1. Have someone read John 1:1-5. What are some of the similarities between the way John begins his Gospel and the way Genesis begins? Why does John make these connections?2. John's Gospel is unique from the other three Gospels. For example, we learn the Christmas story begins before creation (because the Son was present at creation). Why is it important for us to consider that the Christmas story begins before creation?3. If we believe Jesus is truly God, this should make other teachings in the Bible simpler to embrace. What are some teachings in the Bible that become less challenging when we realize Jesus is God?4. Who is an example of a person you have wanted to meet in your life? Why should it excite us that God wants to be known by us? What should we do if we don't value that He wants to be known by us?5. Jesus is the light, and we need the light because we are in darkness. What are some examples of darkness we experience in our lives and in our world? What does it look like for Jesus to be the light in our darkness?6. J.I. Packer suggests we should view the Incarnation “not simply as a marvel of nature, but rather as a wonder of grace.” What is the reason Jesus was born as one of us? Why is it important we consider why he was born as we celebrate Christmas?7. When we believe Jesus is the Word and the light Who has come into the world for us, it should give us great confidence that the darkness will not overcome the light (1:5). What are some specific ways you can be encouraged in your life right now knowing the darkness will not overcome the light? Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Karma in IndiaThe Kurmi, renowned for their agricultural skills in northern India, are classified as an Other Backward Class (OBC). This refers to communities that are “educationally or socially backward” or disadvantaged. Less than 0.1% of the 22 million Karma in India are Christian. An estimated 453 workers are needed to share the gospel among these peoples. Many Kurmi are resistant to the Gospel, fearing it might alienate their children from family traditions. Pray for miracles and dreams to reveal Jesus' power, for believers to live out Christ's teachings, and for Scripture to inspire Kurmi families to embrace salvation and share it with others.Fellowship 101We invite you to join us on Sunday, January 12, at 9:00 a.m. to learn more about Fellowship. Christmas OfferingThis December, Fellowship's Christmas Offering is for The Operation Christmas Child Special Pack (held in October 2025). The gifts received will determine the number of boxes we can send. To send each gospel opportunity (box) costs $20 for items, transportation, and the tools needed to share the hope found in Christ with a child. Please consider giving above and beyond your regular giving to the worthy cause of getting the gospel to sensitive areas that are difficult to reach. You can use an envelope by offering baskets or give online by selecting “Christmas Offering” from the options. For an idea of what we are trying to raise, we packed 2,800 boxes this year, which is equal to $56,000. In this conversation, Richard and Kathy discuss the importance of joy, generosity, and fellowship during the Christmas season. They emphasize the significance of teaching children about generosity through initiatives like Operation Christmas Child and the joy that comes from giving. The discussion transitions into the broader theme of living in the kingdom of God, focusing on enjoying life, work, and relationships. They highlight that true fulfillment comes from enjoying fellowship with loved ones and finding joy in everyday activities, ultimately leading to a life of generosity and blessings. We want to hear from YOU! If you would like to submit a question or comment for further discussion, please email us at: questions@afjministry.com.

What aspect of Operation Christmas Child do you appreciate? Why? 2. We looked at the storyline of the Bible and discovered our God is a missionary God from the beginning to the end. Missions isn't just one aspect; it is at the very heart of Who He is and what He does. Is this a new idea to you? Explain. 3. We looked at several passages to help tell the story of the Bible (see the sermon outline). Did one or two of these passages stand out to you? How does that passage relate to the bigger story of our missionary God? 4. What are some ways we should be impacted when we consider that God's heart for missions is good news for us? In other words, when we realize we are among the “nations” and Jesus was sent as our Savior, how should we respond? 5. When we realize missions is at the heart of Who God is and what He does, we should be impacted so that missions becomes central to who we are and what we do. Would you say missions is merely one aspect of your life, or is missions at the heart of who you are? Explain. 6. How could missions become more central to your life? What next steps can you and your Home Church take so missions becomes more central to who we are and what we do? (For example, we have been including a “Mission Highlight” at the bottom of the discussion questions. Your Home Church can spend some time reading this and praying.)Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Hui in China The Hui people of China, numbering around 13.7 million, are primarily Sunni Muslims with roots tracing back to Arab, Persian, Mongol, and Chinese ancestors. They speak Mandarin with some Arabic and Persian influences and are spread across nearly all of China's counties, known for their skills in business and various trades. Despite widespread persecution of Uyghur Muslims by the Chinese Communist Party, the Hui have not faced the same level of oppression. There are no known gospel movements among the Hui, with less than 0.1% identifying as Christians. An estimated 275 workers are needed, at a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Prayers focus on opportunities for outreach, spiritual conviction, and a desire for Jesus among Hui families, with the hope that they would embrace Christ and share the gospel across their communities. During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology I'm basically peeling off my emotional Spanx and revealing my proverbial cellulite, stretch marks, and wobbly bits because we're diving deep into the subject of rest, which doesn't come naturally to me because more often than I'd like to admit, my default setting gets stuck on go. I know cognitively that God modeled rest when He crashed out on a celestial couch after creating the world and that since He gave us the gift of rest before the Fall, it's a perfect gift, not an accommodation for human weakness, however my worth and my word tend to be unhealthily intertwined and all too often I live at a frenetic pace that robs me and those I love of peace, isn't sustainable, and isn't what God calls us to as His beloved. Busyness really isn't a spiritual gift, y'all. I often find myself pondering how Jesus lived His life at a pace of 3 mph because He walked everywhere He went. He was fully present with people. He even took the time to welcome interruptions. If possible, I encourage you to actually sit down while you listen to this episode – don't try to listen while you're making dinner or working out because, well because that'd be like funneling chips and queso straight down your throat without savoring the crisp of the tortilla chips and the velvety tang of the cheese! So please pour yourself a cup of coffee or hot tea with honey and grab your Bible and prop your feet up on the porch with us. We're really glad you're here.

We've been friends for a while now, but after doing a Christmas tour on a bus last year with our kiddos, we morphed into kind of a blended family and began calling ourselves the Huskos! When you spend weeks together in the equivalent of an extended RV and have to make restroom stops at rural gas stations in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere, you bond for life, baby! I laughed so hard while we were on the road together, I kept getting stomach cramps. Which of course I hoped would give me a six-pack, alas all our late-night snacks at Buccee's had a greater effect on my abdomen. Of course, interwoven with all our fun and laughter, Jennie and Levi and I shared some tears, too. Because we've all suffered some devastating losses. Real life – and real relationships – include joy and pain. Heartwarming moments and heartbreaking seasons. I know authenticity and Christianity aren't always synergistic in modern culture, but they sure should be. I think today's conversation is going to feel like an old pair of Uggs, warm and comfortable. So please grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate or hot tea, and your Bible, and come hang out on the porch with us. I promise, you'll fit right in with our slightly whacked, very messy, ride or die family of faith.

This episode is releasing the day before a Presidential Election here in the United States. Regardless of the outcome, some people are going to be disappointed. Maybe angry. Including some Christians. But, no matter which candidate wins the Oval Office, we know who occupies the throne. As followers of Christ, we're called to and empowered to live in unity with other believers. So, may this message be a blessing. Let's pray for this election. Let's pray for our leaders at every level. Let's love our neighbors. And, let's trust that what God says will happen, will happen.

The Distinction The Relationship The FutureThis Week's Growth GuideGod's Word is both central and critical to your spiritual growth. We invite you to utilize the Growth Guide during the week to further your application of the Truth from the message.•. Monday - Matthew 5:13-16•. Tuesday - Matthew 22:15-22•. Wednesday - Romans 13:1-7•. Thursday - 1 Timothy 2:1-4•. Friday - Philippians 3:20-21Home Church Questions1. Have someone read Matthew 22:15-22. The goal of the two groups was to trap Jesus. Why would this question about paying taxes potentially be a trap?2. What is the meaning of Jesus' answer to their question. Why does He answer this way?3. This passage suggests a distinction between the Roman government and God. It was mentioned in the sermon that some governments have not recognized a distinction between the church and government. What are some of the negative consequences that can occur when there is no distinction between these two spheres? For example, why would it be a problem if the state tried to force someone to convert to a particular religion?4. In an ideal situation, what should Christians expect of government? What is the responsibility of the government to the church?5. While the government has responsibilities to the church, we have responsibilities to the state. First, we are supposed to be salt and light (have someone read Matthew 5:13-16). Why is it important that we are being transformed by the Gospel and becoming more like Christ in order to have an impact as salt and light wherever we live? What are some ways you are representing Christ to the people in your neighborhood, your workplace, your school, your team?6. Second, we also have certain responsibilities to obey the government God has placed over us (see 1 Tim 2:1-3 and Romans 13:1-6). Why is it important for Christians to be diligent to obey the laws?7. Third, we live under a government in which we can have an influence on policies and laws. What are some ways we can have an influence and why should we try to have an influence?8. Philippians 3:20-21 reminds us our ultimate citizenship is in heaven. If we truly believe this, how should this impact how we live as citizens in Conway? Mission Highlight - Pray for the Unreached: The Northern Uzbek in Uzbekistan Uzbekistan has a population of 27.5 million, with Islam as the main religion and Uzbek as the primary language. Christians make up less than 0.1% of the population. While the complete Bible is available in both written and oral form, no movement of the gospel has been reported. An estimated 550 workers are needed, with a ratio of 1 worker per 50,000 people. Focus Prayer on sending long-term laborers to the Uzbeks, fostering religious freedom, and spreading the Good News through strong local disciple-making households. The goal is for Uzbek families to embrace Jesus and build movements of faith across the country.FinancesWeekly Budget 35,297Giving For 10/20 35,240Giving For 10/27 14,135YTD Budget 600,052Giving 511,958 OVER/(UNDER) (88,094)Fellowship 101We invite you to join us next Sunday, November 10, at 9:00 a.m. to learn more about Fellowship. During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology Alli and I have the pure joy of asking Dr. Howard – whose PhD is rooted in the New Testament so he's a smarty-McTarty when it comes to Pauline theology - all kinds of questions about the more complex points and passages the book of Romans. Questions like, How can we reconcile Paul's doctrine of justification by faith in Romans 3-4 with his view on the Law and good works in chapters 2 and 7? How does Paul's concept of predestination and election in chapter 8 align with the broader themes of free will and human responsibility in this epistle? How can we explain – better yet model - Paul's teaching that hope won't disappoint with our friends, family, co-workers and neighbors who've all but lost theirs because of tragedy, hardship, loss, or abuse? And How can we hang onto the joy Paul preaches about while simultaneously leaning into the suffering he frames as part of our faith? One of the things we love most about Dr. Howard is that he delights in making profound theological concepts understandable to people who don't have a bunch of academic degrees like him and he does that with contagious joy today. So please grab your favorite beverage, a yummy snack and your Bible – unless of course you're practicing a routine with flaming batons – and come hang out on the porch with us. We're really glad you're here!

It's that time again - Time for another episode of the WGI Unleashed Podcast! Join us as we sit down with Mike Mills, WGI's VP of Stormwater Resources, for an inspiring conversation about his life and engineering journey. Mike's story is a tale of determination, gratitude, and a steadfast commitment to making a difference, from his unique upbringing and early career challenges to his now impactful projects and passions. Growing Up with a Global Perspective Born in Virginia to a Navy father, Mike spent a significant portion of his early years in Japan on an American Naval base. Mike's father met his mother abroad, sparking a bond that shaped a childhood rich with international experiences which Mike still treasures to this day. Living between Japan and the U.S. until he was 16, Mike credits his early international exposure with giving him a valuable perspective that continues to fuel his gratitude and open-minded outlook on life today. Having moved to Orlando during high school, however, he experienced a significant culture shock. Yet, this transition unknowingly marked the start of his journey into the world of civil engineering. From Architecture Dreams to Civil Engineering Realities Initially set on becoming an architect or archaeologist, Mike was led to civil engineering when his first-choice schools appeared to no longer be an option. Ultimately electing to attend the University of Central Florida, Mike saw engineering as a way to design the spaces surrounding buildings if he couldn't design the buildings themselves. With guidance from state-renowned professors, Mike's passion for land development and stormwater management grew, cementing his career path in the AEC industry. Rising Through the Ranks with Determination Mike's career began in land development at a company where technology was just beginning to enter the scene—so much so that he was tasked with exploring the company's first computer and seeking out the industry's new and innovative software and technologies. This early exposure to cutting-edge tools such as ICPR, now known as StormWise, became a defining moment. Mike credits this experience and his connection with Pete Singhofen, ICPR's creator and now a WGI colleague, as pivotal influences on his career. After immense success with his first job in Orlando, Mike's journey led him to a stormwater management role in Tampa, leading to multiple company acquisitions and, ultimately, the founding of his very own consulting firm in 1999 - And after 21 successful years of acting as his own boss, Mike's firm was acquired, and his longtime connections with WGI leaders, including Pete Singhofen, brought him to WGI in 2024. A Legacy of Diverse and Impactful Work Mike's extensive work spans public and private projects, from collaborations with some of Tampa's favorite brands such as Publix and Outback Steakhouse to meaningful contributions to wetland mitigation, including Hillsborough County's first-ever wetland mitigation permit. His dedication and experience also recently contributed to WGI's substantial win on the Turnpike & Sawgrass Interchange project—a major milestone he credits to WGI's exceptional proposal and project management teams. Life Beyond the Office Beyond the workplace, Mike finds joy in Sunday morning bike rides to brunch with his wife and friends, playing guitar and bass, practicing yoga, and running. And in recent, exciting news, Mike is now proud to call himself a grandfather as he welcomes in his first grandchild! Mike's dedication to work-life balance and his love for spending time outdoors reflect his commitment to both personal well-being and professional growth. Mike is also deeply committed to philanthropy, particularly through Operation Christmas Child with Samaritan's Purse - with his leadership and empathy helping to bring joy and hope to children around the world during the holiday season.
