Dear Church This is the video HERE to watch before listening to this podcast. This is the Q&A session with pastors and elders following episode four of a new six-part YouTube series in which Mairi is reading out our 2024 book, God Closed Church. (All info about the book here). How do church pastors and elders typically think about the all-important church closures of March 2020? Where are the fault lines that result from a lack of wisdom and 'prophetic knowledge'?"Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint..." (Proverbs 29:18)"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children." (Hosea 4:6)Here is the first video. Has our society lost its sense of honor? In this powerful kickoff to our new Honor Series, hosts Jobbin and Jeswin explore why disrespect has become so normalized—from weddings to social media to how we treat authority and what it means to restore a biblical culture of honor.Especially relevant for the South Asian Christian community, we unpack:Why honor is not the same as obedienceHow cultural and generational differences shape our viewsWhat the Bible says about honoring parents, leaders, and GodThe role of shame—and how it can actually lead to growthWhether you're wrestling with dishonoring authority, dealing with church hurt, or just want to understand how to live with more integrity, this episode lays the foundation for an essential and practical series.
The leader of the world's 17 million Mormons, Russell Nelson, has died, aged 101. The former heart surgeon didn't assume the role of prophet until he was in his nineties and, yet, in death, he's being described as a transformational figure in the Church of Latter-Day Saints, as Mormons are known formally. His death came the same day that four members of the church died in an attack on a church in Michigan. Professor DAVID SMITH of the US Studies Centre wrote about extensively about the Mormon church in his 2015 book Religious Persecution and Political Order in the United States. Why would a liberal Muslim who spent his teenage and college years arguing against the power of Christianity in American politics now pine for the old-fashioned religious right? Why would he look kindly on a Republican president who started a war in Iraq and call it a “religious crusade”? In an essay for The New York Times, published over the weekend, writer ZAID JILANI explained this radical change of heart. The streets of London recently filled with thousands of protesters taking part in so-called “Unite the Kingdom” rallies. Many objected to large-scale immigration. Some used Christian symbols to bolster their cause, prompting a former Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, to warn against co-opting the cross for nationalist campaigns. Has the Christian nationalism that defines much of the American Right now migrated to Britain? DAVID CAMPANALE is a freelance journalist who spent 30 years with the BBC. He covered the rally for Premier Christian Radio and Christianity Magazine. David's also a fellow of the Danube Institute.

In this special episode of the Restoring Our City podcast, hosts Jobin and Jeswin step into a heavy and emotional moment following the tragic shooting of political commentator Charlie Kirk. Rather than rush to a hot take, they take a breath, pray, and ask the deeper question: why do we, as a culture, respond with rage?We talk about:• The culture of outrage and its spiritual roots• The identity crisis behind our most emotional reactions• What the Bible says about dehumanizing others• The dangers of "whataboutism" and extreme responses• The church's role in discipling a generation shaped by social media• Why love and truth must walk together, even in disagreementWhether you agreed with Charlie Kirk or not, this episode isn't about political sides. It's about how we treat people, how we reflect Christ, and how we respond to pain, disagreement, and death in a divided culture. We invite you into this candid, convicting, and compassionate conversation—not to cancel anyone, but to help connect our community and reflect the heart of Jesus, especially when it's hardest to do so.

The sacred calling to ministry comes with a paradox few outside the role understand: those who lead others in worship rarely get to experience it themselves. This powerful conversation between Melody and Parker Webb peels back the curtain on the hidden struggles of pastoral life, revealing the emotional toll of always being "on stage" instead of in the pews with family.Parker shares a heart-wrenching moment when his five-year-old son asked if Daddy would actually sit with the family during a church service—a simple request that brought tears when finally fulfilled. The hosts explore how ministry families must intentionally create moments of togetherness amidst demanding schedules that leave little room for normalcy. "Home is when the entire family's together doing life together," becomes not just a nice sentiment but a survival strategy.Beyond family dynamics, the conversation addresses the dangerous territory of ministerial burnout. When exhaustion sets in, vulnerability to temptation follows—"a wide open double door for Satan," as Melody describes it. The discussion offers practical wisdom for church leadership teams: include budget for pastoral spouses to attend conferences, provide extra rest days after intensive work periods, and seriously consider sabbaticals. With the exodus of pastors from ministry at historic highs, these aren't luxury items but necessities for sustainable ministry. Whether you serve in ministry yourself or simply attend a church with pastoral leadership, this conversation provides crucial perspective on supporting those who care for our spiritual well-being while fighting to maintain their own.

Let's be honest—ministry isn't all coffee dates, potlucks, and perfectly curated Sunday services. Sometimes it's downright hard. In this episode, we're pulling back the curtain and admitting what many of us feel but don't always say out loud: following Jesus while leading others can feel messy, overwhelming, and even lonely. We share the real stuff—like what it looks like to put family first without guilt, how pride sneaks in when we least expect it, and why discipleship is less about having it all together and more about showing up faithfully (even when we're tired and struggling). Here's what we dive into:Why admitting “this is tough” is actually freeingHow your personal story might be the lifeline someone else needsWhat happens when we stop pretending and start leaning on communityFinding peace in chaos (yes, it's possible!)Why making time with Jesus is non-negotiable if we want to keep goingThis conversation is raw, honest, and hopefully a big sigh of relief for anyone who's ever thought, “I love Jesus and I love the church… but I'm not okay right now.” Spoiler alert: you're not alone, and God is right there in the struggle with you.Shop the Storyline Bible Studies: Gardens and Deserts by Kat Armstrong:https://www.thestorylineproject.com/Get all the info about our next pastors' wives retreat and apply here:https://bit.ly/pwtaretreatTo purchase the BOOK, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/bookTo shop our MERCH, head here: https://pastorswivestellall.com/shopWant to support the Pastors' Wives Tell All podcast ministry? On the flip side, what do you do with someone who produces results but struggles with alignment or attitude? In this episode, we're diving into the tension between staff loyalty and staff performance—how to evaluate both, what matters most in different seasons, and how to build a team that's both committed and effective. Was the Trinity involved in creation? Do we have a better deal today than Adam and Eve had? Even better than the disciples? If so, how? We have opportunities to share God‘s grace with others in our church, but not all of the leadership is on board. How can we navigate this? What is the parable of the unforgiving servant really about? Are we only forgiven by God if we are nice to other people first? What is “the sin that leads to death”? Why does 1 John 5 say not to pray about that sin? How is Abraham‘s sacrifice of Isaac a symbol or shadow of Christ's sacrifice? My pastor said we Christians have idols in our hearts. Do we really?
Ruling Elder Joe Jager talks to the Ruling Elder Podcast about Foreign Missions. He gives excellent suggestions on how to encourage missions and missionaries. Matthew 9:37-38Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”Post Production Joe recommends the following books as impactful on his walk as a Ruling Elder:The Elder: Today's Ministry Rooted in All of Scripture by Conelis Van Dam (a friend from the Canadian Reformed Churches) P&R Publishing 2009Provides a biblical foundation for the office of elder. The Elder and His Work by David Dickson, P&R Publishing, 2004Good practical guide. Of course all such manuals must be carefully adapted and used in specific local situations. The Elders Handbook: A practical Guide for Church Leaders by Gerard Berghoeg and Lester De Koster Christian's Library Press: Grand Rapids Michigan 1979 This was my first introduction when I was ordained as an elder in a Canadian Reformed Church. It provides some very practical guidance for new elders. There is also a companion volume entitled The Deacons' Handbook: A Manual of Stewardship by the same authors.
In this conversation, Kevin Hu and Kevin Butcher explore the concept of attunement, its significance in relationships, and how it can be cultivated within communities, particularly in church settings. They discuss the neuroscience behind attunement, the challenges of creating spaces where individuals feel seen and valued, and the steps one can take to experience and give attunement to others. The dialogue emphasizes the importance of vulnerability, connection, and the transformative power of love in fostering attunement. rootedpastors.org
