Hoy me siento a hablar con Eric Saunders Malavé, artista plástico y santero, que en Puerto Rico, es como se denominan los talladores de santos. Eric me cuenta que desde pequeño le gustaban los santos ya que su mamá los coleccionaba, el momento en el que decidió coger clases con su maestro Pedro Pablo Rinaldi, cómo ha ido creando su propio estilo "pop-art" dentro del arte tradicional de la talla y la experiencia de venderle su primera pieza a nada más y nada menos que Antonio Martorell. También hablamos sobre la historia de la talla de santos en Puerto Rico, la concentración que requiere cada pieza, la importancia de proteger nuestra cultura como boricuas y mucho más. Tres "takeaways" de este episodio: 1. Una talla de santos criolla se caracteriza por tener una altura de ocho pulgadas o menos. 2. La tradición cuenta que los santeros deben tallar sus piezas con madera que fue picada cuando la luna está menguante, ya que los árboles botan toda el agua que tienen en el tronco y hace la madera más resistente a las plagas. 3.
