This is the special hour in our year... an hour to contemplate this child, and to offer him the hopes and fears of all our years. Referencing Isaiah 9.2-7, Luke 2.1-14. A talk for Christmas Eve, midnight, 24 December 2024. Find the text to this and all my talks at bit.ly/johndavies-talks.
https://youtu.be/zf410_hZWe8?si=WJ-KX3X6QY9ht6tm Chill Christmas - 2 - Navigating Holiday Chaos Chill Christmas Bumper? Welcome to Redemption Church of Plano Tx. My name is Chris Fluitt! Merry Christmas! Chill Christmas Title We are in the 2nd week of our message Series – Chill Christmas. Last week we told you… DO NOT breathe life into traditions…Choose traditions that breathe life into you. We talked about the hope that lights up dark times. Today I want to talk to you about Navigating Holiday Chaos. Navigating Holiday Chaos Is your schedule chaotic?Thank you for being here today… Which picture does your family look like?Family Picture Which picture do you feel like? Is this a peaceful time? …and why not?World: Constantly at war.In 2024 -56 ongoing national conflicts.-involving 92 nations.Last year- 162,000 war deathsThis year's numbers will be similar. Even stable democratic nations like South Korea are lacking peace. This week that National government experienced a coup, and declared martial law. Here in the US we are not at peace. No “weapons live” active war… but lacking peace. -Political divide (Holiday withdraw)-Relationship struggles -$$$ - “The average American is expected to spend $1,778 per person.” (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/holiday-spending-forecast/)-Youth – School & social media – NO ONE FITS IN – BULLY ONE ANOTHER. -Mental & physical health Family Picture Chances are good that you are not the peaceful family in this picture… Chances are you are stressed out, burned out, and feeling left out. And yet the Bible says this about the Christmas season… Luke 2:1413 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Other translations “Peace on Earth, Good will to men.” Christmas should be marked with Peace… but what exactly does that mean? Does peace mean…-No chaos?-No more wars?-No more $$ problems? -No more relationship struggles? PEACE does not mean any of this. News to you? Rethink Peace At the Birth of Jesus the Angel's declared “PEACE ON EARTH…” BUT the the world Jesus was born into was not perfect… but broken. There was still chaos……darkness…wars…murder & death…poverty…relationship issues Let's rethink peace.Peace does NOT mean problem free Even though the Light of Jesus came… still evil and darkness. Jesus was born in the middle of a war torn nation, under the occupation of a brutal empire called Rome.Jesus was born, and a self made “king” Herod started killing all the young boys in order to protect his power. Jesus was born, and yet still poverty was around… and racism… and prejudice… and sexism… Jesus was born and his mother Mary was still thought of scandalously because of the miraculous birth. Let's rethink peace. You can have problems and still have peace. This is why the angel declared peace in the middle of chaos. What is peace? How do you define it?What if our definition is differently from God's definition? Shalom (šālôm) - Completeness Peace is most often used to convey Completeness… wholeness… not lacking… That is probably a different definition for us.That is likely the definition we need. Isaiah 9:6: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. When we call Jesus our PRINCE OF PEACE… we are saying that He is the ruler, the authority, the leader… that makes us whole and complete. This season is not PEACEFUL because we are always looking for one more thing… Imagine if we could say and truly mean that we have EVERYTHING WE NEED. That would be peaceful. Not chaotic. This is why Jesus came. He came to provide EVERYTHING you need. His life and example showed that He was always providing everything people needed.

In this message, we explore the sufficiency of Scripture in three key areas: salvation, holiness, and worship. God's Word is always enough, regardless of our circumstances. It guides us, transforms us, and reveals how we are to worship Him. Join us as we uncover the power and authority of Scripture in every area of life. Contemplate these questions as you listen to this week's message: How does trusting in the sufficiency of Scripture free us from relying on our works or human philosophies for salvation? What does storing God's Word in our hearts mean, and how does this shape our pursuit of holiness? How does Scripture guide us in worship, and why is it essential to approach worship based on God's commands rather than human preferences? Everything We Need (Colossians 2:6-15) by Faith Family Church Oak Grove
Everything we could ever need for life and godliness has already been deposited in us by his divine power. // A message by Chris Hyatt.
The post God has given us everything we need. appeared first on Key Life.
You and I are going to struggle with our humanity. Surrender doesn't seem like a good idea to any of us. It feels like we are giving up and losing control, but when we surrender to God we lose things we don't need to gain the things we really do.Main Points:1. Everything you need is on the other side of surrendering your life to God.2. Everything you need God can provide. Yet, often the provision doesn't come until we surrender to God. 3. God's plan is not about depriving us of good things. He delights to give His children good gifts. He also desires, above all else, for us to follow him and delight in him. Sometimes God will make us sacrifice something we want, to secure our hearts for the greatest good: himself. Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 26:39 - “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Teju Ravilochan was born in the United States, just two years after his parents came to this country from their native India. His parents went on to careers in medicine, but only after help from several corners of their adopted community. Growing up, they taught these lessons to their son, and today Teju is the founder of GatherFor, a non-profit dedicated to the belief that “in community, we have everything we need.” In this Blue Sky conversation, Teju describes the remarkable and brave work that he and his colleagues are doing, particularly in challenging housing development in Brooklyn, NY. Teju describes how nearly every tactic and practice they pursue is nothing new, but rather reaching back to old, in some cases ancestral, concepts of community and looking out for our neighbors. Teju's optimism is as infectious as his work his inspiring. Learn more about GatherFor: https://gatherfor.org/ Chapters: 01:12 Teju Ravolochan's Journey with GatherFor Teju Ravilochan shares his background and the founding of GatherFor, a non-profit organization that organizes neighbors in Brownsville, Brooklyn to support each other unconditionally. 02:23 Teju's Family and Heritage Teju discusses his family's immigration journey from India to the United States, highlighting the support and kindness they received from their community, shaping his belief in the importance of community over individualism. 06:00 The American Dream and Community Support Teju reflects on the American Dream, emphasizing the role of community support in achieving success and questioning the societal focus on financial wealth over communal bonds. 15:06 Undervaluing Community in Modern Society Teju discusses the loneliness epidemic and the undervaluing of community in modern society, contrasting it with historical practices of communal living and support. 27:01 Building GatherFor in Brownsville Teju shares the early days of Gather 4, starting with 8 people and growing through word-of-mouth. The focus is on storytelling as a tool to connect neighbors and build relationships. 33:13 Rebuilding Trust in Public Housing Teju recounts the challenges faced in engaging with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to address long-standing repair issues. The chapter highlights the transformative impact of community organizing and a unique approach to building trust with NYCHA. 46:26 Transforming Community Culture through a Block Party The story of how a block party organized by Glenmore Proud residents led to repairing over 1,600 issues in 60 days. Sunday, June 30, 2024, we continued our study on 2 Peter, focusing on the theme "Everything We Need for Life and Godliness." Our main emphasis is on the significance of establishing a strong foundation rooted in a deep understanding of God that leads to a relationship with God rooted in love. During Peter's time, there was a rise in false teachings propagated by individuals promoting a "secret" knowledge they believed was essential for salvation. This false teaching, known as "Gnosticism," propagated the belief that the physical realm was corrupt while the spiritual realm was pure. From this comes some serious concerns regarding how we deal with sin and temptation regarding how we deal with spiritual matters. Despite containing elements of truth, these teachings were ultimately deceptive and misleading, not aligning with biblical truth but rather derived from the deceit of Satan. What we find is that Gnosticism takes on forms in our beliefs today. That's why we must be on guard. This message serves as a prelude to the upcoming teachings by Peter as we progress through his writings. We invite you to worship and study with us.

06 - 14 - 24 A.m. (Split Session) Everything We Need Is In The House - Rev. Aaron Bounds by Glen Ferris Apostolic Church
Have you ever packed for a trip and then had that feeling like you were forgetting something? I feel this way every time I pack! I can't imagine leaving the house for a trip and being absolutely sure that I had everything I needed. In our "Growing in Grace" sermon series on 2 Peter, we are looking at 2 Peter 1:1-4 in a sermon called "Everything We Need." In 2 Peter 1:3, Peter tells us that God has given us everything we need to live for him. This incredible promise changes our entire relationship with God and with the world around us. No longer do we have to live in fear hoping we measure up to God's standard - He's given us everything we need in Christ! No longer do we have to seek our happiness or fulfillment in the fleeting things of this world - He has given us everything we need in Christ. I pray we are amazed at the powerful truth with which Peter starts this brief letter.

We're familiar with the expression – “things have gone from bad to worse.” We've all seen examples of that. In some ways that was the context of 2nd Peter. Not only was the church dealing with the persecution and sufferings that Peter addressed in his 1st letter. Now, there was a growing tide of heresy and false teaching that threatened the church. There are many parallels to the church today and I hope you'll join us as we begin a study of 2nd Peter.

Dragonfly Dreamers, In the meantime, while I cook up a deep and juicy fancy-studio conversation that was just had with my Palestinian friend Brandon, mi amor, y mi amiga G, I wanted to offer an Energy Audio Tidbit on an absolutely blissed out nearly full moon Sunday evening here in Sonoran desert Mesoamerica. I am thankful for the adults in the room with power right now on the world stage who are showing restraint. I am thankful each moment that neutron bombs aren't dropped on my head. I am praying for a Ceasefire. War must be between fighters. Blowing up essential infrastructure and dropping bombs on civilians and kids is not war. Stop it. Love you all.
