The Portage church of Christ is a group of pre-denominational Christians that are striving to serve the Lord together. Our goal is to please God, and we believe that the best way to do that is to follow the pattern that was established by the churches in the first century and revealed in the New Testament. We have no creed or doctrine except the Bible and we follow the Bible only. We strive for unity in the teaching of New Testament doctrine. Our congregation is not part of, or subject to, any larger man-made religious organization. We are a completely autonomous congregation. We are locally governed, just as the church in the first century was. How does one becomes a member of this church congregation? The exact same way as seen in the Biblical accounts. On the day of Pentecost following Jesus' resurrection, people who repented and were baptized were saved (Acts 2:38) and the saved were added to the church (Acts 2:47). These saved people were members of the body, or church (Colossians 1:18). To become a Christian, the Bible teaches: Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17) Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God (John 8:24, 58, Heb. 11:6) Repent of past sins (Luke 13:3, 5) Confess Jesus as Lord (Matt. 10:32-33, Rom. 10:9-10) Be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16) Remain Faithful to Christ (Rev. 2:10, 2 Tim 4:7-8)

Jase, Al, and Zach dive into the growing buzz around end-times prophecy and rising global tension, making the case that what Jesus finished on the cross reshapes how Christians should see it all. An earlier than usual episode of the Independent Thinking podcast, ahead of the Easter break. In a one-on-one conversation, Chatham House Director Bronwen Maddox discusses energy with Sir Dieter Helm, Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Oxford, who has been advising governments and writing on energy, water and the environment for decades. They examine how energy policies of different governments over decades led to the UK's energy costs being so high. And what the government should do if it wants to guarantee security of supply – and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Are those concerned about climate change right to push for net zero? Are current policies driving industry from the UK? Should there be more nuclear power stations, or more drilling in the North Sea? Homelessness is one of the most visible—and often misunderstood—crises facing the world today. In this deeply important episode, Jay S. Levy brings both expertise and compassion to a conversation that goes far beyond statistics and headlines. Drawing from years of experience working directly with vulnerable populations, Jay explores the complex realities behind homelessness and the human stories that are too often overlooked. From economic hardship and mental health challenges to systemic gaps in social services, this discussion uncovers the many factors that contribute to individuals and families losing stable housing. Jay sheds light on the day-to-day struggles faced by those living on the streets, as well as the resilience and strength many demonstrate in the face of overwhelming adversity. But this episode doesn't stop at identifying the problem—it also looks toward solutions. What approaches are actually making a difference? How can communities, governments, and individuals work together to create meaningful change? And perhaps most importantly, how can we shift our perspective from judgment to understanding? Join us for a powerful and eye-opening conversation that challenges misconceptions, humanizes a global issue, and calls on all of us to think differently about homelessness—and our role in addressing it.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. The US-Israel war on Iran is straining Trump's alliances, at home and abroad. Three weeks into exactly the kind of war of choice that he spent years decrying, US President Donald Trump is not getting the amount of international support that he seeks for his campaign of air strikes on Iran. There is also reluctance among NATO and other allies to be drawn into the political and economic turmoil caused by the US-Israeli campaign, and Tehran's region-wide retaliation. Our experts discuss the state of US-Gulf relations, the muted European response to Trump's appeals for help in re-opening the Strait of Hormuz, and what it could mean elsewhere in the world for ongoing crises in Ukraine, Cuba and Venezuela. The US military's AI provider Anthropic is feuding with the Pentagon after the company tried to impose 'red lines' over the use of its artificial intelligence products for lethal autonomous weapons and mass surveillance of Americans. President Trump accused the US firm of being 'radical left' and designated it a 'supply chain risk' – usually reserved for Chinese or Russian firms who could compromise US security. Our panel discusses the dispute, the battle to control artificial intelligence systems already being used in Iran, Venezuela and Ukraine, and how a public battle between tech and government throws a much-needed spotlight on the wider global issues of AI governance and who is – or isn't – writing rules for the new era of warfare. They also look at how China is pushing ahead quickly with its plan to integrate 'AI Plus' into all aspects of its economy and military. This week's guest host of the Independent Thinking podcast is Alex Krasodomski, director of Chatham House's Digital Society Programme. He is joined by Laurel Rapp, director of the US and North America Programme; and James Kynge, a senior research fellow with the Asia-Pacific Programme who has spent years studying China and its high-technology industrial sector. Why did the Israelites, fresh out of Egyptian slavery, immediately build a Golden Calf? In this video, we dive deep into the dark Egyptian history behind Exodus 32. We uncover the truth about the Egyptian goddess Hathor, why Israel mixed pagan customs with the worship of the One True God, and the brilliant reason why Moses burned the calf to ashes. But this isn't just an ancient history lesson. The "spirit of the Golden Calf" is still alive and well in our modern culture. People are still tempted to trade the authentic, unpredictable presence of the Holy Spirit for a counterfeit god made of our own hands. Send a text This week on Ruck's Place, we step back and look at the state of the world we're living in today. From global wars and political power struggles to the disruption of families and communities, the landscape around us is shifting fast. Across the country, immigration enforcement actions have stirred fear in neighborhoods and raised serious questions about policy, power, and humanity. At the same time, a new generation is growing up in a world where many people escape into virtual realities while real-world challenges continue to unfold around them. In this episode, we talk honestly about what it means to stay grounded, aware, and responsible in times of uncertainty—and why facing reality, no matter how uncomfortable, is still the first step toward shaping a better future.Support the show
There is a value to shared knowledge that tends to go unrecognized because it's so ubiquitous. Nonetheless, experimental psychologist Steven Pinker explains in this Social Science Bites podcast, common knowledge underlies things like paper money, governance, and even coral reefs. And common knowledge, he makes clear to host David Edmonds, "does not have its ordinary sense of conventional wisdom or an open secret or something that everyone knows, but rather something that everyone knows that everyone knows, and everyone knows that, and everyone knows that, and so on, ad infinitum." Possing that shared knowledge – and the knowledge that others share that knowledge – creates the conditions for coordination, and thus action beyond what an individual could achieve. That's the reason, he says, "that autocrats fear common knowledge of the regime's shortcomings is that no regime has the firepower to intimidate every last citizen." Pinker, the Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, details his understanding of the virtues and vices of common knowledge in his most recent book, When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows...: Common Knowledge and the Mysteries of Money, Power, and Everyday Life. The book, his 13th, continues his streak as one of the most publicly recognized of public intellectuals, including recognition as one of Foreign Policy's "World's Top 100 Public Intellectuals" and Time's "100 Most Influential People in the World Today." He is also only the second (so far) returning guest to Social Science Bites, having addressed violence and human nature in a 2012 podcast.
This week on the Denise Ilitch Show, Denise welcomes Jon Oberheide, co-founder of Duo Security, for an inspiring conversation about his early passion for technology and the entrepreneurial spirit that led him to launch his first business while still in middle school. Denise also sits down with Gigi Doelle, a junior Political Science major at the University of Michigan, to explore how artificial intelligence is woven into her daily life. Gigi discusses the real-world impact of AI on students and young professionals, and reflects on both the opportunities and challenges that come with embracing this rapidly evolving technology. Tune in for personal stories, expert perspectives, and a closer look at how technology is shaping our world today.

As society fractures and flourishing fades, many are discipled more by outrage, fear, and tribal loyalty than by the truth of Scripture. We explore how these cultural currents distort identity, blind us to our neighbor's humanity, and pull us away from the kingdom Jesus calls us to embody. More importantly, we uncover how the gospel dismantles these lies and invites us into a better way—a way marked by humility, truth, and cross‑shaped love. This episode is a call to wake up, examine our hearts, and resist the narratives that divide and deceive. The Author Events Series presents Steven Pinker | When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows . . . In Conversation with Annie Duke Common knowledge is necessary for coordination, for making arbitrary but complementary choices like driving on the right, using paper currency, and coalescing behind a political leader or movement. It's also necessary for social coordination: everything from rendezvousing at a time and place to speaking the same language to forming enduring relationships of friendship, romance, or authority. Humans have a sixth sense for common knowledge, and we create it with signals like laughter, tears, blushing, eye contact, and blunt speech. But people also go to great lengths to avoid common knowledge-to ensure that even if everyone knows something, they can't know that everyone else knows they know it. And so we get rituals like benign hypocrisy, veiled bribes and threats, sexual innuendo, and pretending not to see the elephant in the room. Pinker shows how the hidden logic of common knowledge can make sense of many of life's enigmas: financial bubbles and crashes, revolutions that come out of nowhere, the posturing and pretense of diplomacy, the eruption of social media shaming mobs and academic cancel culture, the awkwardness of a first date. Artists and humorists have long mined the intrigues of common knowledge, and Pinker liberally uses their novels, jokes, cartoons, films, and sitcom dialogues to illuminate social life's tragedies and comedies. Consistently riveting in explaining the paradoxes of human behavior, When Everyone Knows That Everyone Knows... invites us to understand the ways we try to get into each other's heads and the harmonies, hypocrisies, and outrages that result. Steven Pinker is the Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard University. He has won many prizes for his teaching, his research on language, cognition, and social relations, and his twelve books, including The Language Instinct, How the Mind Works, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Enlightenment Now, and Rationality. The Fire of Christ's Heart: Surrendering to Grace or to the World Today's Homily reflects on a challenging Gospel passage . . . . . . where Jesus says He came not to bring peace but division. The Homily also invites us to linger with difficult Scriptures rather than skip to “favorite parts,” because they reveal essential truths about salvation. St. Paul reminds believers that although Christ has already won victory over sin, we must still freely choose to surrender to God's grace instead of giving in to old habits, emotions, and worldly desires. We Must Still Freely Choose to Surrender to God's Grace Jesus speaks with deep urgency and longing for our salvation, revealing His burning desire to complete His saving mission on the Cross. True peace is not simply avoiding conflict or leaving things as they are; rather, Jesus brings a necessary division between the old life of sin and the new life of grace. Choosing the Kingdom means leaving behind “business as usual,” even when that causes tension within ourselves, our families, or society. Ultimately, life presents only two paths: God's way or the way that leads to emptiness, shame, and death. The Lord calls us to choose the way of life, to surrender to grace, and to walk with Him . . . who gives us strength in the Eucharist . . . to become truly new and free in Him. This one happened fast. A week ago, a publicist reached out to ask if I'd possibly be interested in helping to promote a documentary about a guy (a white guy) who thinks he's supposed to bring together the native people of South and North America — whose combined teachings will then spread across the planet and save us all. My first impression was that this one sounded crazy, possibly racist, and not something I really want to spend time on. But the fact that the director had worked with Werner Herzog caught my attention. (I love me some Werner Herzog.) So I agreed to check out a screener, and last night, Anya and I sat down to watch at least the first few minutes — reluctantly. WTF?! We were hooked immediately, watched the whole thing in amazement, and this afternoon, less than 24 hours later, Gabe Polsky and I sat down to talk about his film. If it's playing anywhere near you, trust me, go see it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get a little confused and grossed out … but you will not — guaranteed — get bored.Intro music “Brightside of the Sun,” by Basin and Range. “I Saved the World Today,” by The Eurythmics. Common knowledge is necessary for coordination, for making arbitrary but complementary choices like driving on the right, using paper currency, and coalescing behind a political leader or movement. It's also necessary for social coordination. Humans have a sixth sense for common knowledge, and we create it with signals like laughter, tears, blushing, eye contact, and blunt speech. But people also go to great lengths to avoid common knowledge—to ensure that even if everyone knows something, they can't know that everyone else knows they know it.
