It’s a beautiful September morning. Maryknoll Fr. Ray Nobiletti had just celebrated 8 o’clock Mass in Transfiguration Church in Lower Manhattan. The primary election for the Mayor of New York City was that day and the elementary school at Transfiguration was buzzing with the start of brand new school year. In fact it was the children’s 2nd day of school. The date is September 11, 2001. After Mass Fr. Nobiletti received a phone call and was informed that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, a building he always enjoyed looking at from his bedroom window, and he was asked if he could go immediately to the burning building to help minister to the wounded. Barely having time to collect his thoughts, let alone his stole, prayer book, and holy oils, Fr. Nobiletti proceeded into the chaos of what would become known as one of the worst tragedies the United States has ever seen. As tens of thousands of people are trying to escape Lower Manhattan, Fr. Nobiletti is walking in that direction. With people grabbing on to him, screaming, and crying it didn’t matter whether you were Catholic or not that day. He didn’t know it at the time but his presence became a beacon of light in the blackness, dust, and tragedy of that day.

From a Roman prison, Paul, "in chains," writes to his converts in the thoroughly Roman city of Philippi to thank them for their supportive gift. In his letter, Paul specifies how being "in Christ" is an enterprise of joy, even in the midst of suffering. Paul's advice to his beloved Philippians applies to us as well, teaching us that the joy of our lives is proclaiming "Jesus Christ is Lord!"
" The Art of Forgiveness"- January 30, 2018 Clearly in Jesus' teaching a requirement for discipleship is to have a forgiving heart. Jesus Himself modeled his teaching from the cross. But forgiveness is really a process with specific steps toward the goal of forgiveness. In our time together, we will identify those steps of forgiveness and in the end perhaps make the idea of forgiveness less daunting.

Today is a special re-air of a program broadcast on 05/25/2011 in which we interviewed Fr. Ray Ryland. We are sharing this program in honor of Fr. Ryland who passed from this life on Thursday, March 20th, 2014. Fr. Ryland served as a naval officer in World War II before he attended Union Theological Seminary and was subsequently ordained to the ministry. He served for a number of years for the Episcopal Church until in 1963 he was received with his wife Ruth and their 5 children into the Catholic Church. Twenty years later, he was the second Anglican to be ordained a priest in the Catholic Church with a dispensation from the rule of celibacy. Fr. Ryland taught theology at the University of San Diego and the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He served as an assistant at St. Peter’s church in Steubenville, Ohio. Most dearly for us, however, he was the Vice President and Chaplain of the Coming Home Network International since it was formed back in 1993. Fr. Ryland’s conversion story is available in our book Journeys Home available through CHResources, but it is also told in his recently published memoir: Drawn From Shadow’s Into Truth. Enjoy this classic episode in which we discuss Colossians 1:24 and 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
