Have you ever been in a desperate situation wondering how you will make it to the next day? Perhaps there isn't enough money to pay that one bill, or perhaps your health hasn't been the greatest and you wonder if you'll ever feel better, or maybe you're in a dire situation and you just can't see your way out of it. During these times, one person's kind gesture or offer of help is sometimes the way we're able to make it to the next day—turning a corner away from a turbulent season of our lives. So often these “angels” appear in the form of friends, family, and sometimes even strangers who act as God's agents to lift us up into a better place. This week we will hear two touching stories that speak to how God sends his help through others—right when we need it most. We're talking with singer Walker Hayes and his friend, Pastor Craig Allen Cooper, and founder of the Be Heard movement, Evan Dougoud.    Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Krispin Mayfield Upcoming interview: Jeff Henderson   Walker Hayes Craig Cooper Glad You're Here Redeeming Grace Church   Evan Dougoud Be Heard Movement Transformation Church www.beheardmovement.com   Interview Quotes: “I'd just been beat up by Nashville and wasn't really excited to be known or know people. I was not a very approachable person when I met Craig, at all. And a lot of that was by choice, and just that was kind of comfortably where I lived.” - Walker Hayes “I said, ‘Lord, I try to encourage other people, you know that. I need you, please, to encourage me. Is anything I'm doing to make a difference in anybody's life? Please show me that you have me where you want me.'” - Craig Allen Cooper  “I think God was kind to show me Christ in another human, and I'm so grateful for that.” - Walker Hayes “It was just very, very tough to try to focus on school when you're trying to focus on surviving.” - Evan Dougoud “I'm standing here today only as a walking miracle, but most importantly, God saved me and I want to help and go and do the same for somebody else.” - Evan Dougoud “What if I didn't move to Tulsa? There's people on the street I would've never met, who may have died on the street if I didn't move, if God didn't use my story, if God didn't redirect my steps.” - Evan Dougoud “I stopped putting God in a box of how He will provide for us.” - Evan Dougoud  “I learned that trust is gained in buckets, but lost in drops. By us being consistent, by us being a man of our word, by us just showing up, it created a unique, trusting relationship to those who are unhoused.” - Evan Dougoud ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Hour 1: Boomer & Gio are live from Giants camp today. We start with the Mets taking 4-of-5 from the Braves and the Yankees getting swept by the Cardinals. Jacob deGrom had a perfect game going into the sixth inning yesterday. Boomer thinks Keith Hernandez jinxed it. Boomer is once again saying Edwin Diaz is on his way to becoming Mariano Rivera. We also talk about the players the Mets & Yankees brought in at the trade deadline. We also talked about the importance of Buck Showalter and how the Mets finally got the right guy. Jerry is here for his first update of the day, but first we talk about Jerry's little league coaching career being over now. Jerry starts with audio from Jacob deGrom's impressive pitching performance yesterday. We hear from Jacob, Alonso, Nimmo and Buck Showalter. The Mets took 4-of-5 from the Braves. The Yankees got swept by the Cardinals this weekend including losing 12-9 yesterday. We hear from Aaron Boone who has a silver lining as usual. The Yanks have now lost 5 straight. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the Mets series against the Braves and what it means for October. We just need Jacob deGrom to be stable for the rest of the season. We also talked about Joe Klecko being a finalist for the Hall of Fame. And what can we expect from the Giants offense this year? Hour 2: The 7am starts with a full segment of Boomer & Gio interviewing NY Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll. Jerry returns for an update and starts with audio from the Mets win over the Braves thanks to a dominant Jacob deGrom performance. And then Giants QB Daniel Jones joins us live from camp. In the final segment of the hour, we talk about Daniel Jones' size and compare him to Josh Allen.  Hour 3: The 8am hour starts with talk about the Mets taking 4-of-5 from the Braves. Jacob deGrom was perfect into the sixth inning and Boomer thinks Keith Hernandez jinxed it. Gio says nobody has turned it around in NY more than Edwin Diaz. Boomer is still comparing him to Mariano Rivera. The one thing the Mets didn't do at the trade deadline is upgrade the catcher position. Keyvon Thibodeaux joins us live from Camp to close out the segment. In the second segment of the hour Jerry joins us for another update. He starts with the Mets beating the Braves. The NFL is going to appeal the Deshaun Watson suspension of only 6 games.  Hour 4: The 9am hour begins with some Mets and Yankees talk. The Mets just took 4-of-5 from the Braves and the Yankees just got swept in St. Louis. The Yanks head to Seattle for a 10:10pm game tonight. The Padres are spending a ton of money right now. They also talked about the Giants and how bad they and the Jets have been lately. We need them to be more like our local baseball teams. Boomer says Daniel Jones needs to play a lot in pre-season. Jerry returns for his last update of the day and starts with a clip from the Brian Daboll interview from earlier today. The Mets got a near perfect performance from Jacob deGrom and took 4-of-5 from the Braves. We hear from deGrom, Nimmo and Alonso. The Yankees got swept in St. Louis and have lost 5 straight. A soccer player got married but wasn't there. He was signing a contract and had his brother stand in for him. In the final segment of the show, we talk about Boomer's experience at training camp when he was a player. Boomer has a funny Brian Cox story. Boomer says Daniel Jones has to get to the point where the game slows down for him during the game. What do you do with Daniel Jones if he has a good year, not a great year? Do you pay him?

Hour 1: Gio & Sal begin a Friday morning show talking about a big Mets win over the Braves to start their critical five-game series. Edwin Diaz got the first six-out save of his career and is giving the Mets a weapon out of the bullpen they've never had before. Buck brought Diaz in for the 8th inning and showed he was not messing around in managing this game. Sal loves that Buck managed based on the flow of the game and not some predetermined plan. C-Lo is in for Jerry one last time this week and gets us started with the Mets win over the Braves. Edwin Diaz got the save and Orlando Arcia helped out with a check swing groundout to end the game. Carlos Carrasco acknowledged that this series is important. The Yankees will face Jordan Montgomery this weekend and Aaron Rodgers went in search of pure love. In the final segment of the hour, Gio explains his confidence in the Mets offense because of their professionalism and ability to beat teams in many different ways. Sal says Pete Alonso will go down as the best Met position player ever. Hour 2: The 7am hour starts with Gio and Sal agreeing that the Mets certainly look like the better team when they've played the Braves so far this year. The guys can sense a different atmosphere at Citi Field as the rabid Mets fan base gets excited for a serious run. Sal has a Sweet 16 this Saturday that he surprisingly does not want to get out of. His big outing with 10 overnight callers is this Sunday and Gio tells him what to expect. CLo returns with Met highlights including one of Tyler Naquin's two home runs in his Citi Field debut as a Met. Buck acted modestly after the game but Gio knows he was fully aware of how right he was. How would Gio and Sal react if they were teammates of tripping Aaron Rodgers? In the final segment of the hour, Gio recaps his night at the Walker Hayes concert and a caller vouches for the type of vision quest Aaron Rodgers went on. Hour 3: The 8am hour opens with Gio remarking that he can't think of anyone who has had a path like Edwin Diaz in New York. He was awful and a joke when he got here and now he's dominating and confident. Gio and Sal like what they are seeing from the Mets and Gio is not worried about the Braves. A chat about the Braves missing Freddie Freeman leads to a discussion about libel laws and reporters or other media members being way off from the truth. CLo returns to share everything we need to know about the Mets 6-4 win over the Braves. Sal recalls getting into it once with John Rocker at Shea Stadium. Gabe Kapler is spending time with Aaron Rodgers in crazy town and Bill Belichick did not use kid gloves when answering a young reporter's question. In the final segment of the hour, Sal describes how much he loved spending a night alone in the city with pizza and Mets baseball. Gio and Sal then discuss how much of the work they take on as fathers of young daughters. Hour 4: The 9am hour begins with Gio helping Sal prepare for a very busy weekend and a night out. They compare strategies when going out and agree on how much they love a football Sunday at a sports bar. Sal tells Gio about the time Mike Francesa took him golfing. CLo is back for his final update of the week and starts with Buck Showalter asking Edwin Diaz to do something he's never done before. Diaz converted a six-out save and the Mets won 6-4. Winning pitcher Carlos Carrasco acknowledges how important this series is and Gio and Sal look at the pace the Mets are on this season compared to good Mets teams of the past. CLo and Sal are into the Derek Jeter documentary but Gio is not feeling it. CLo has some fun at Boomer's expense and then it's time for Moment of the Day with Mr. Aaron Rodgers. In the final segment of the show, the guys preview Sal's big outing with callers at Citi Field this Sunday. We wrap up with Sal apparently being the only person who did not know one life-changing consequence of getting married and having kids, plus Sal made one decision last night with the show in mind.

When we feel we are falling short, failing, or generally losing, it's important to remember that when we don't fail, we may not learn, we won't have the experience of recovering, and we may not try again. Some Christians are deluded into thinking that because they are in a relationship with God, failure is not an option. However, scripture tells us in multiple places that God uses suffering and failure to build strength and character in our lives.  All three of our guests today know what it's like to fail. Discovery Channel's Todd Hoffman has had highs and lows in his mining career. He's learned as much–if not more–from his mistakes navigating the world of gold mining as from his successes. Pastor Adam Hamilton and his wife Lavon know what it's like to serve the Lord and their family as best as they possibly can, but that sometimes, they don't meet the mark as spouses and parents. They speak about the challenging transitions of parenting kids as they become adults.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Dr. Meg Meeker Upcoming interview: Walker Hayes and Craig Cooper Luke 16 NIV   Todd Hoffman Hoffman family Gold Rush on Discovery Channel Joshua 24:15 NIV Hoffman Family Gold   Adam Hamilton United Methodist Church of the Resurrection www.cor.org   Interview Quotes: “I don't care about fame, but I do care about the reach when it comes to my faith.” - Todd Hoffman “I was kind of depressed and coming out of that and trying to fix things in my marriage. And that's when God kind of met me. I said, ‘I need a good idea and I need something new to believe in.' And that's when I got that vision of Gold Rush.” “We try to serve the Lord the best we can and we fail, but we get back up and we ask for forgiveness and we carry on.” - Todd Hoffman “I would hope that as long as we're still alive, that we're finding ways to parent, that you're still finding ways to show [your children] love and care.  And I know as we age, the tables kind of turn and they start helping take care of us. But I think that no matter how old you are, you can still look for ways that you can be a mom or dad to your children.“ - LaVon Hamilton “I feel like all of our best years were way after our thirties. You know, there were some things that were great at that time, I'm not denying that, but I feel like we have more joy. There is more satisfaction in life. I think we feel more in love with each other today than at any point in our past.” - Adam Hamilton “You have to figure out how you transition together, or how you learn the dance steps for this phase in your life. Because dance music doesn't stay the same throughout your whole life. It changes as you go through life.” - LaVon Hamilton “There's a direct correlation between our spiritual life and our time with God and how we live out our faith towards the people that are closest to us.” - Adam Hamilton ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Sal and Gio think this Mets team is for real and Sal did not feel that way about some good Met teams of the past. Would the Yankees be better off with home-field advantage in a potential ALCS against Houston or an easier matchup in the ALDS? Are the Yankees aggressive enough in their attempts to win? CLo is back for his final update of the show and begins with a Mets win and a Yankee loss. Recent comments by Aaron Rodgers have the guys confused and re-evaluating their lives. Hour 1 Gio & Sal begin a Thursday morning show asking what the local baseball teams have to accomplish this season in order for fans to be satisfied. For the Yankees, it's making the World Series. The bar for the Mets is a little lower, but they need to have a run in the postseason. The Mets are in the midst of a better season than most people realize and the Yankees have some problems, but how big are they? Mets history is filled with so much losing and Gio says he would be obnoxious if he rooted for the Yankees. C-Lo is in for Jerry and gets us started with a highlight of Daniel Vogelbach's first Mets home run, a grand slam in a 9-5 win over the Nationals. Mychal Givens made his Met debut and struggled, to put it lightly. Sal doesn't want to hear about travel and short turn-arounds. The Yankees' Wednesday afternoon game wasn't as kind to them as Gerrit Cole allowed three home runs and six total runs in the first inning of a 7-3 loss. Andrew Benintendi is off to a slow start and the Padres new acquisitions are already thriving. In the final segment of the hour, Gio and Sal wonder if they can follow Aaron Rodgers's lead and do ayahuasca. Hour 2 The 7am hour starts with Gio and Sal discussing the news that the NFL will appeal Deshaun Watson's suspension in an attempt to increase it. Sal and Gio agree that fans are tired of hearing about off-field legal cases. CLo returns and begins the update with a Pete Alonso home run. Buck Showalter was in a strange mood and Chris Bassitt loves Luis Guillorme's defense. Gerrit Cole was blasted by the Mariners in a 7-3 Yankees loss. Football is back as the Hall of Fame game is tonight. In the final segment of the hour, the guys discuss Gerrit Cole's bad start and whether or not he's a true “ace” that can be counted on in October. Who is the best starter the Yankees have and who can they count on for the postseason? Gio wonders if Brian Cashman is happy with how things worked out and the Yankees landing Frankie Montas instead of giving up more for Luis Castillo. Sal recalls running into Cashman in an airport. Hour 3 The 8am hour opens with Sal explaining how he plans to spend his night alone in the city. Sal will meet callers this weekend and sometimes worries about potential encounters. Sal believes the Mets are better than the Braves and will prove it this weekend. Gio agrees, it's time to send a message. CLo returns to update us, but first, the guys talk about getting to Yankee Stadium and wanting an October with playoff baseball and competitive football. The Mets beat the Nationals, Daniel Vogelbach hit a grand slam and Gio is impressed by the Mets' new big slugger. CLo also has a clip from Philly where they discuss touching hard wood. In the final segment of the hour, Gio shares how his wife informed him that she hired an attractive housekeeper.  Hour 4 The 9am hour begins with Gio and Sal saying we're entering crunch time for baseball. Their story is one that goes against how so many of us view neighbors in the most refreshing, culture-shifting way. As the world grows increasingly distant, I wanted to have this conversation because those in my very own community have had the greatest impact on my life. Neighbors have celebrated with me, mourned with me, in many senses were the community that raised me, and the thought of loosing this profound connection saddens me. Yet, it doesn't have to be this way! This profound story of authenticity, generosity and connection is one we know will give you a glimpse of what's possible! Through this conversation Craig will walk us through: - How his early neighborhood relationships impacted him -How he came to meet the Hayes Family through natural 'friend chemistry' - What it looks like to know your neighbors needs and respond -The importance of time in a relationship-How to embrace all of life's seasons in relationship We know that you will crave more of this story! Hi, Here After with Megan Devine fans! This week we're including an episode Amy Brown did with singer/song-writer Walker Hayes and his wife, Laney! We hope you enjoy it! Singer/song-writer, Walker Hayes (who wrote our theme song! + the #PIMPINJOY song 'Joy Like Judy') and his wife Laney join Amy for all 4 things this episode. You might laugh. You might cry. The parents of 6 kids let us in on a lot and we are so thankful that they took the time to share it all. FIRST THING: Amy is obsessed with Walker's song “Don't Let Her”, which was written about Laney. Every girl would love for a guy to write her a song like this. Its genius. Sorta sad. But genius. And very sweet. A must listen!!! SECOND THING: Blessing others is fun. Walker & Laney have been on the receiving end, but now they are on the giving ned. They are paying it forward with their "Be a Craig Fund" that was inspired by their friend (named Craig) that blessed them with a van for their big family at a time when they were financially strapped and they didn't have a car with enough seatbelts for everyone. "Be a Craig Fund" now allows them to pass the blessing of a new car on to other people that need a little help. THIRD THING: Walker & Laney open up about the heartbreaking journey of losing their daughter Oakleigh during birth. They share about how they are getting through the grief process in hopes that it can be helpful to others who may be going through something similar. FOURTH THING: “Life ain't always pretty, but hey its pretty beautiful thing!” Through the good and the bad...Walker & Laney practice gratitude...so they each share 4 things they are thankful for. Be sure to check out WalkerHayes.com for his music, more information on the Be A Craig Fund, as well as the awesome merch mentioned in this episode.  Best places to find more about Amy: RadioAmy.com + @RadioAmy See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
