POPULARITY
It's the story you've heard a thousand times before, from a perspective you've never heard…Welcome back to the Dolls Pod! To kick off season 2, we're telling the story of the Beatles from the point of view of their biggest fan: longtime secretary and Fan Club president Freda Kelly! Her no-nonsense attitude, big heart, and hard work are proof of just how much a girl's love can change rock-and-roll
Indgang: 5 kroner.
Og dermed for The Beatles. Kvinderne her vil forstå det. - Magien. - The Fab Fours luner.

Freda Kelly and Ryan White crowdsourced a film telling the story of the Beatles fan club secretary and her decade-plus with Brian Epstein and the Beatles over a decade ago. This week we review the film and consider its place in the canon and whether it continues to hold up.
When you think of The Beatles, it's hard to imagine there was ever a time when they weren't known worldwide; when they were still just a group of "ordinary" guys oblivious to what fate had in store. But this is exactly how Freda Kelly knew them. Freda, originally from Dublin, knew The Beatles from their time playing at The Cavern in Liverpool. After becoming friendly with them, Freda was approached by their new manager, Brian Epstein, who asked her to be his secretary. Recalling the days that she became part of a group that was about to take the world by storm, Freda talks fondly of what life was like for her and the families throughout the rollercoaster journey. We hear, in particular, about the relationship that she developed with Ringo's mum. Starting off as a helping hand with sorting the mail, their bond grew over a tradition of egg, chips and cream cakes.

More On The Film & Alan G Parker From the Emmy nominated director of Monty Python: Almost The Truth , Alan G. Parker (Rebel Truce: The Story of The Clash, Hello Quo, Never Mind the Sex Pistols, Who Killed Nancy) and produced by Reynold D'Silva and Alexa Morris , the film features incredible rare archival footage unseen since the 1960s. The film also features rare interviews with The Beatles' original drummer Pete Best , John Lennon's sister Julia Baird , Beatles' manager Brian Epstein's secretary Barbara O'Donnell, Steve Diggle of the Buzzcocks, Beatles associate Tony Bramwell, Pattie Boyd's sister Jenny Boyd , Hunter Davies, Simon Napier-Bell, Ray Connolly, Bill Harry, Philip Norman, Steve Turner, Andy Peebles, Freda Kelly and The Merseybeats . IT WAS FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY! THE BEATLES: SGT. PEPPER & BEYOND examines the year 1967, the year that would arguably be the most crucial in the band's career, a year in which they stopped being the world's number one touring band and instead became the world's most innovative recording artists, pushing the boundaries of what could be achieved in the studio. Unable to hear themselves perform and mired by controversy, the band decided to stop touring in August 1966. What followed was a period of extreme creativity and rebirth during which they embraced Swinging London, the ‘avant-garde', LSD and the advent of the Summer Of Love. The result was the creation of their new alter ego, Sgt. Pepper, with the desire to create a pop music first, the concept album. A devoted fan since the age of nine, the film's director Alan G. Parker has set out to explore this period by filming interviews with former employees, fellow musicians, family member and journalists, all of whom were there at the time. These stories are in turn supported by a vast array of impressive archival footage, much of it not seen since first transmission. The result is a detailed examination of why the band stopped touring, how the album was conceived and its recording at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, its lyrics, the creation of its sleeve and finally its release. All this is set against a background of the band's changing relationship with their manager, Brian Epstein and the tragedy of his death, the creation of Apple and the powerful influence of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Official Beatles Fan Club played a significant role in interfacing between the Beatles and their fan base all the way from the Cavern days through the final days of the band and (slightly) beyond. While Freda Kelly played the largest role, there were others involved in both the U.K., the U.S. and other countries. As the four went their separate ways, Paul and Linda would keep the spark alive with the Wings (later Paul McCartney) Fun Club. Join us this week, as we look into the history of the clubs and the publications they presented themselves to the world in, The Beatles Book Monthly, and Club Sandwich.
The Fab 4 Free 4 All follow-up with Kathy McCabe, co-producer of 'Good Ol' Freda'.
On the occasion of the release of the DVD of "Good Ol' Freda," Ken and Steve chat with Freda Kelly about the movie and her work with the Beatles.
NWP welcomes director Ryan White. Ryan talks about his new documentary film "Good Ol' Freda" This film has been the darling of the media world, getting major press from all the top television shows and entertainment sites. #6 on iTunes, The Beatles worked with Ryan to bring this film and tribute to Freda Kelly to life. Special appearnce in the film by Ringo Star with a beautiful dedication to his friend Freda, should not be missed! Freda Kelly was just a shy Liverpudlian teenager when she was asked to work for a local band hoping to make it big. Though she had no concept of how far they would go, Freda had faith in The Beatles from the beginning, and The Beatles had faith in her. History notes that The Beatles were together for 10 years, but Freda worked for them for 11. Many people came in and out of the band's circle as they grew to international stardom, but Freda remained a staple because of her unfaltering loyalty and dedication. As the Beatles' devoted secretary and friend, Freda was there as history unfolded; she was witness to the evolution – advances and setbacks, breakthroughs and challenges – of the greatest band in history. In Good Ol' Freda, Freda tells her stories for the first time in 50 years. One of few documentaries with the support of the living Beatles and featuring original Beatles music, the film offers an insider perspective on the beloved band that changed the world of music. www.goodolfreda.com www.ryanwilliamwhite.com www.northwestprime.com
