“...catch me if you can!” Police find those words written on a note left in a jacket draped over a murder victim's body. They believe the message comes from a serial killer targeting young women in the Washington, D.C. area, nicknamed the Freeway Phantom. But the handwriting? Belongs to someone else. This was a great conversation with Joe DiToma author of Cult of The Black Sun and Cisco Street Love author of Yesterdays Shame: Story of Atlanta Child Murders. These are two very brilliant researchers on a variety of subjects. We covered the Son of sam Case, The Process Church of the Final Judgment, Wayne Williams, The Atlanta Child Murders and much more .The Cult of the Black Sun Paperback – November 15, 2010by Joe DiToma The Cult of the Black Sun by Joseph DiToma is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller about a clandestine operation involving deadly Nazi technology. Hamilton Knight, an OSS operative, begins working alongside his former German enemies and, feeling increasingly uneasy, forms an alliance against them with other members of the CIA. Believing these Germans are out to destroy the world, Knight knows he has only a few chances to stop them. His son Cosmo, a scientist, operates a paranormal investigation lab in upstate New York, which soon becomes a web to trap the paranormal-loving Nazis before they can annihilate America. Can Hamilton and his son stop the Nazi plot in time, or is it already too late? A brilliant study of good against evil that is filled with larger than life characters and situations, The Cult of the Black Sun proves that when good men do nothing, evil can reign, but when good men stand up to evil and assert their sovereignty, evil will always be conquered. DiToma, who grew up listening to his father talk about the secret sect of the Catholic Church, has said he is fascinated by conspiracy theories, and that he has spent his life trying to determine the truth in all situations. With The Cult of The Black Sun, he has fashioned a book that is as provocative as it is entertaining.Yesterday's Shame: The Atlanta Child Murders Kindle Editionby Cisco Streetlove The Atlanta Child Murders occurred between 1979 and 1981. Between April of 1971 and September of 1972, six girls, between the ages of 10 and 18, were abducted from Washington DC and found murdered. After some of their abductions, he would call the families or those close to the case breathing heavily, or giving crude messages. Then, left behind in one of the victims' pockets was a note from the killer, taunting the police by saying, “Catch me if you can,” followed by a terrifying name he gave himself. This is the story of the Freeway Phantom.

Welcome to a chilling episode of our true crime podcast, where we shine a spotlight on one of the most disturbing and unsolved cases in American history: The Freeway Phantom Murders. This episode takes us back to the streets of Washington, D.C. in the early 1970s, where a serial killer known as the Freeway Phantom terrorized the community. Between April 1971 and September 1972, six young Black girls were abducted, raped, and brutally murdered, their bodies callously discarded along the city's freeways. The victims, ages 10 to 18, were Carol Spinks, Darlenia Johnson, Brenda Crockett, Nenomoshia Yates, Brenda Woodard, and Diane Williams. These senseless crimes left six families shattered and a community in fear. Despite the best efforts of the police, the killer evaded capture, leaving behind a note taunting law enforcement with the chilling words, "Catch me if you can!" The Freeway Phantom operated with brazen impunity, making phone calls to the victims' families and flaunting his crimes. In this episode, we delve deep into the dark underbelly of the investigation, examining the mishandling and abandonment of the case that has left these murders unsolved for over 50 years. We hear firsthand accounts from the victims' families, law enforcement agencies, and those who narrowly escaped becoming victims themselves. Their stories paint a haunting picture of a community ravaged by fear and a justice system struggling to find answers. We also explore the various suspects who have been investigated over the years, including Robert Askins and the Green Vega Gang. Despite their ties to other crimes and suspicious evidence, none of the suspects have been conclusively linked to the Freeway Phantom murders. As the years pass, the case grows colder, but the families of the victims refuse to give up hope. Join us as we peel back the layers of this baffling case, dissect the evidence, and attempt to shed light on the Freeway Phantom's true identity. Together, we'll explore the lasting impact of these heinous crimes on the victims' families and the community as a whole. The Freeway Phantom Murders is a story of tragedy, resilience, and the urgent need for justice. Tune in to this episode of our podcast as we provide a comprehensive and thought-provoking examination of this still-unsolved chapter in American crime history. This week, on July 11th, marked “Relisha Rudd Remembrance Day'' in Washington, DC. As you heard in Freeway Phantom, back in 2014, Relisha Rudd, an 8 year old Black girl, went missing from Northeast, DC. Her whereabouts are still unknown. The timeline of Relisha's disappearance is somewhat unclear but what is clear is that multiple systems failed to keep her safe and the failure of those systems is why no one even knew that she was missing, until it was too late. Tenderfoot TV has partnered with Truer Crime host, Celisia Stanton, to share more of Relisha Rudd's story with you. In this episode of Truer Crime, Celisia takes a deeper look into what happens when the systems put in place to protect children, ultimately fail them.Truer Crime tells stories of real people who are missing, murdered or misled, digging deeper and challenging listeners to ask questions about the root cause of crime, and what justice really is. You don't have to only take our word for it, though. Check out the trailer to decide if Freeway Phantom is your next true-crime obsession! Show Description: Between 1971 and 1972, six black girls went missing in the Washington D.C. area. Their bodies were discarded alongside DC freeways. And their killer was never found. The media dubbed him “The Freeway Phantom.” From iHeartRadio and Tenderfoot TV, a new podcast reinvestigates the 50-year-old unsolved murders of these young girls. Journalist and Public Radio veteran Celeste Headlee (NPR, PBS, TEDx) examines old case files and interviews the investigators and family members who are still haunted by these killings. Headlee will ask the questions: Why didn't these murders make the news headlines? Did law enforcement do enough to solve these crimes? And how do racial disparities impact these types of investigations, past and present? Plus, we'll explore new evidence which may crack the cold case wide open again.
