Send us a textFew offices in the history of our government have produced more harm, to more people, more often, and more efficiently that the office created in 1973 to investigate the Watergate Scandal. The Special Prosecutor's statute stayed on the books the rest of the 20th century and was used to wound the reelection campaign of George H. W. Bush, and then cripple the final years of the Presidency of Bill Clinton. It has horribly damaged the historical legacies of four United States Presidents: Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. Ironically, the very party who dreamed this evil institution up, the Democratic Party, was the same one to end it when the statue expired in 1999, but only after it had been effectively used to demolish a President of their own party, even as the Impeachment attempt failed to remove Bill Clinton from office. Then congress invented its bastardized cousin, the Special Counsel statue. While it does have some modest restraints compared to the absolute total powers of the Special Prosecutor's statute, the record of abuse there may not be fully known until our current era, centered around Donald Trump, is over. As we look back at the 1992 Presidential Election and its controversial end. We thought this the perfect opportunity to show to our listeners the full impact of the 30 years of dishonesty that has been used to devastatingly wound four American Presidencies. But even worse than the damage done to the institution of the Presidency is the personal destruction it has wrought on the innocent aids to these Presidents. Often young men and women, whose only real crime was earnestly wanting to play role in the history of the nation and seize the opportunity so few people get in life, the chance to work for the President of the United States. Instead, many faced prison time, and were financially wiped out, while the most dastardly, horrible , unethical people you could have ever dreamed up paraded themselves on television and in books as lawyers who champion justice while playing on the trusting nature of a naive public that still believes that our Justice System is the one uncorrupted branch of government left in the land. Here we lay everything out, the abuses of power, and the intentionally corrupt birth of the most evil office our government has ever created. We hope it will serve as a warning for what we have seen in our more modern times, so that perhaps wise heads will see to it that this institution dies, with a stake through its heart. Like this bloodsucking vampire of an institution of division and destruction truly deserves. Within the recently released "JFK Files” there is a reference to a “Bobby Dyllon” and informant number “T-3390-S." This recent discovery has led to a quick consensus among many JFK assassination scholars that “Dyllon” is the lynchpin between an unknown FBI informant at the heart of a conspiracy theory that scholars are now just beginning to accept as truth: that the “Watergate” scandal was not at all what it seemed; the downfall of a corrupt politician, but was instead, the overthrow of a president––Richard Nixon––who was about to reveal the truth about the Kennedy assassination. Bob Dylan's––or “Bobby Dyllon's”––surveilled actions, now unredacted and detailed in the JFK Files, come very close to proving this so-called “conspiracy” theory as historical fact. Bob Dylan was famously called the "voice of his generation." Which artist best spoke for your generation? Let Jake know at 617-906-6638, disgracelandpod@gmail.com, or on socials @disgracelandpod. Send us a textIn this special edition of our podcast we will be looking at the highly acclaimed best selling book written by former Ronald Reagan Speech writer Ken Khachigian. The book offers an insiders view of not one President but two Presidents, both giants in our long long struggle against the forces of Communism in the Cold War. The two Presidents were two of history's giants, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Few people have had as close an insiders look as Ken Khachigian has had with the inner workings of any White House, much less two of them. Plus, he was with Richard Nixon in San Clemente after Nixon was forced from office in the wake of the horribly unfair Watergate Scandal. Khachigian was one of the five staffers Nixon had who would help him prepare his Memoirs and rebuild his life and career. From there Khachigian would move on to the 1980 campaign of Ronald Reagan becoming his chief Speech writer and the man who would pen some of his most memorable moments, from his 1980 Inaugural Address, to the address at the Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp in Germany as the President dug himself out of a controversy that had its origins in the war 40 years before. This book offers intimate portraits of Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan, and mentions several lesser known figures we have talked about throughout our many seasons on the air such as Earl Butz, and most recently Stu Spencer who just passed away at age 97. BEHIND CLOSED DOORS by Ken Khachigian is a must read and we are very thankful for the opportunity to showcase it here on our broadcast. The origins of Covid-19 still remain somewhat hazy, over three-and-a-half years since the virus began spreading across the world. That has led to a number of prominent conspiracy theories, with 25% of people in the UK believing that Covid was definitely or probably a hoax. That finding was part of an April 2023 survey by Savanta for King's College London and the BBC. It also established that belief in other conspiracy theories is relatively high too, like the idea that the cost of living crisis is a government plot to control the public. This movie is almost entirely exposition, and while this isn't an approach I'd recommend for novelists, I can't imagine telling this particular story any other way. You might say that ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN is the exception that proves the rule. Master storyteller, William Goldman, pulls it off and that means there's a whole lot we can learn about how and when to use exposition when writing a story. When it comes to character arcs (Melanie's topic this season), neither of the protagonists change in this story but they change the world around them and what that reveals about how stories work is nothing short of fascinating. -V."It's almost exclusively exposition. If you have ever wondered whether exposition was a thing or whether it was important, seriously watch this movie." - Valerie Francis For access to writing templates and worksheets, and more than 70 hours of training (all for free), subscribe to Valerie's Inner Circle. To learn to read like a writer, visit Melanie's website.Follow Valerie on X, Instagram and Threads @valerie_francisFollow Melanie on X, Instagram and Facebook @MelanieHillAuthor

In the annals of American political history, few stories are as compelling as the intersection of faith and power during the Watergate scandal. The tale of Richard Nixon's downfall is not just a political narrative, but a deeply spiritual one, where ministers and clergy played pivotal roles. Among them, John Huffman stands out as a beacon of moral courage, offering a unique perspective on the responsibilities of spiritual leaders in the face of political corruption. Daniel Silliman from Christianity Today shares Huffman’s story which invites us to reflect on the delicate balance between respect for authority and the duty to speak truth to power.
Brandon Weichert, author of "The Shadow War: Iran's Quest for Supremacy" and "Biohacked: China's Race to Control Life," on the differences between Nixon's Watergate Scandal and the the scandal surrounding President Biden's declining health and possible coverups of it. The Democratic Party's immediate "replacement" of Biden with Vice President Harris is eerily similar to Soviet-era politics from the totalitarian state. Welcome today we're unraveling the wild, scandalous tapestry of Watergate. But before we dive headfirst into the circus, let's set the scene. Picture this: It's the early 1970s in Washington D.C., the heart of American political intrigue. The city is a blend of classical architecture and the buzz of modern politics. Picture the Capitol Building standing tall and majestic, surrounded by an air of secrecy and whispered conspiracies. Now, let's talk about the political climate. It's as tense as a tightly wound guitar string, ready to snap. The Vietnam War is still raging on, much to the frustration of the anti-war protesters who have turned the National Mall into their personal campsite. Every other week, it seems, there's a new protest or demonstration. The air smells like a mix of hotdogs from street vendors and the occasional waft of tear gas from the latest clash between police and demonstrators. Richard Nixon is the man of the hour, our 37th president. Picture him in the Oval Office, probably sweating bullets under his perfectly pressed suit. Nixon's presidency was supposed to be his magnum opus, but instead, it was more like a tragic opera. Nixon, with his deep-set eyes and ever-present scowl, looked like he was perpetually plotting something—probably because he was. His paranoia was legendary. He saw enemies everywhere: in the media, among his political opponents, even within his own administration. And speaking of Nixon's administration, they were a colorful bunch. His closest advisors, known as the 'Palace Guard,' included John Ehrlichman and H.R. Haldeman, both of whom looked like they walked straight out of a casting call for 'Men in Black.' They were Nixon's loyal enforcers, always ready to do his bidding, no matter how dubious.

Every scandal since Watergate has often been facetiously labeled with the same terminology or 'gate' suffix in a deceitful and underhanded attempt to convince the vast majority of people to inherently dismiss these abhorrent crimes of state, intentionally conflating them by analogy with the infamous Watergate scandal... Yet again we're forcefully confronted with an all too familiar emotional state of fear and loathing, generated by this shadow cabal pulling the strings, as we find it within ourselves to ask the inevitable question, what is the real story behind the Watergate scandal?.. On August 9th, 1974, Richard Milhous Nixon, the 37th President of the United States of America, while serving his second term (after winning in a landslide), became the first and still only American leader to resign from office. Why? In a word, "Watergate." But Watergate was only the tip of the corruption iceberg. Through the televised Senate Watergate hearings, other members of government and the American public learned that having men break into the Democratic National Headquarters at the Watergate Office Complex was but one of many, many illegal things Nixon had either outright authorized or at least tacitly endorsed. 69 people would be indicted and 48 of them would be convicted for various crimes related to this scandal, with many of them serving time in prison. Watergate scandal, interlocking political scandals of the administration of U.S. Pres. Richard M. Nixon that were revealed following the arrest of five burglars at Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in the Watergate office-apartment-hotel complex in Washington, D.C., on June 17, 1972. On August 9, 1974, facing likely impeachment for his role in covering up the scandal, Nixon became the only U.S. president to resign. Perlstein, R. (2023, June 28). In this segment of "The Marc Cox Morning Show," host Marc Cox discusses the trial involving former President Donald Trump, emphasizing that the very essence of democracy is at stake. The show features a critical analysis of John Dean, who has been vocal in his criticism of President Donald Trump. However, his credibility is questioned due to his involvement in the Watergate scandal and subsequent cover-up. James Rosen, Chief White House Correspondent at Newsmax, and author of "Scalia: Rise to Greatness, 1936 to 1986", offers his insights. The discussion moves on to the recently released transcript of Devon Archer's testimony, which has been a subject of debate. Both sides interpret the transcript differently, with Democrats highlighting categorical denials by Archer regarding any impropriety involving then-Vice President Biden, while other parts suggest Joe Biden's influential role in his son's business dealings. James Rosen speculates on the potential outcomes of the legal cases against Trump if he had not sought re-election. He mentions the current "zeitgeist" in the law, where there is a growing desire to indict former presidents and public figures. This sentiment, combined with animosity towards Trump, has created a unique legal atmosphere where cases are being pursued aggressively. Photo by Kent Nishimura/Getty Images
Of course, the vast majority of them are false, but there are certain exceptions to the rule. What about the Watergate Scandal ? What about the Tuskegee Syphilis Study ? The Iranian Hostage Crisis would last 444 days and its final day would also be the last day of the administration of Jimmy Carter. It was the singular event that seemed to spell out the frustrations of a nation that had suffered one humiliation and trauma after another for nearly two decades, from assassination of a President, to the Vietnam War that divided America to the Watergate Scandal that had removed a President from office, and now here we were at the mercy of an Islamic regime determined to take its country back to the 8th century. It seemed that we were helplessly careening out of control to the status of a failed , third rate power. In Iran, the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, had come from a dynasty that had ruled the Persian nation for nearly 1000 years. He had reformed the nation economically during his 37 year reign and it had created an economy that was flourishing, increasing the national income 423 times what it had been, a better growth rate than anywhere else on the planet, including the United States. He built the the fifth largest Army in the world and had urbanized and modernized the country like no other in the entire Middle East. He was also a friend to the United States and had embraced much of the western world's economic practices. But he had also had to crackdown on political dissent and as he did so many of the religious leaders of the Shiite Muslim faith had rebelled and considered him an enemy to their cause. Much of that was because the Shah had given women the right to vote. One cleric in particular, the Ayatollah Khomeini, was offended that he would dare put the future of Iran in the hands of women. He was further incensed when the Shah allowed Iranian Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Baha'i to take the oath of office for municipal councils using their holy books instead of the Koran. Khomeini vowed then to overthrow the Shah and institute an Islamic Republic in the place of the ruling monarchy. In 1979, the political unrest turned into a full blown revolution and the Shah left the country on what was called a vacation from which he never returned. Khomeini took control and the events unfolded from their that led to our hostages being captured at the overrun American Embassy. This is that story, and the brave story of the Canadian diplomats who worked to save six Americans who had somehow missed being taken into captivity on the day the embassy was overrun. That story is worthy of being a plot of a James Bond movie, in fact, movie making would be a big part of the exit plan. HBO's new miniseries "White House Plumbers" just premiered last night and stars Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as Howard Hunt and Gordon Liddy, who were infamously responsible for the Watergate Scandal, which shook the foundation of politics in Washington and the country as a whole back in the 1970s. Director David Mandel, who directed all six episodes of the miniseries, talked with me about his work on the miniseries, how much he loves this era of history, coming up with the miniseries' visual aesthetic, working with the actors and more! Be sure to give it a listen and check out the miniseries if you haven't already, which is now airing new episodes weekly on HBO and is up for your consideration for this year's Emmy awards.
