Jack Benny sets down his violin and trades mirth for mystery in my three favorite Suspense episodes starring the legendary comedian. First, he finds a bag of money and a pile of trouble in "Murder in G-Flat" (originally aired on CBS on April 5, 1951). Then, he's an embezzling retiree who adjusts his pension plan in "A Good and Faithful Servant" (originally aired on CBS on June 2, 1952). Finally, we head to Mars where Benny's average Martian is recruited to welcome visitors from Earth in "Plan X" (originally aired on CBS on February 2, 1953).

February 14th isn’t only Valentine’s Day. It’s also the birthday of radio’s most famous comedian, Jack Benny. The perpetually 39 year old Benny was born February 14, 1894. His landmark radio program was a popular hit for over two decades, and he remains one of the most influential comedians of the twentieth century. In honor of his birthday, we’re celebrating the legendary funnyman with one of his dramatic turns at the microphone. We’ll hear Benny going for drama instead of belly laughs in a mystery from “radio’s outstanding theater of thrills - Suspense.” Benny stars in “Murder in G Flat” (originally aired on CBS on April 5, 1951).

Jack Benny stars in this non-comedic role as a piano tuner who accidentally gets the wrong bag, a bag full of $25,000.

My daughter loves to play pretend while I play this one. She pretends that she is chasing butterflies... I think that is a perfect use of imagery for this piece. It is commonly called the "black keys" etude because the right hand plays almost exclusively the black keys of the piano. It is a light, but fast-paced etude that is very enjoyable to listen to and probably even more enjoyable to play.
