Nigel's guest today is Craig Robert Young. Craig is an actor based in Los Angeles who has made countless appearance on stage and screen, including his latest venture Wannabe: All Washed Up about a former 90's teen pop star. Strangely enough, that is what Craig used to be as a member of the neon-bright pop group Deuce whose hits included Call It Love, I Need You and the anthemic On The Bible. Craig is a gay man who hid his sexuality during his time in the band and has also at times wished that he wasn't gay. This series is a celebration of a beautiful queer community; people of all ages, people who have had to tread their own path to live their real truth, who have fought with their emotions and emerged victorious, who inspire, who aspire and always entertain. Hosted by Nigel May. Every episode Nigel speaks to a person from the LGBTQIA+ rainbow to hear their story; one person, one life, one conversation. Robert Young brought Jim's Building Maintenance and Jim's Handyman to New Zealand five years ago. His teams are now the market leader nationally, booked months out in Wellington and Christchurch while independent builders are calling him asking for work.Robert joins Joel on the Jim's podcast to make the case that property maintenance is the most recession-proof trade business in New Zealand right now, and that owning a customer base of around 1,000 people is the only real protection a tradie has against AI disruption and a flat economy. He has been through five NZ recessions and the pattern is the same each time. The conversation unpacks how the Jim's flat-fee model works versus percentage-based franchise systems that quietly turn franchisees into subcontractors. Robert breaks down how lead fees operate, why the maximum lead fee in NZ is $35, why some franchisees stop taking leads after 18 months, how territory and customer ownership actually work, and why his franchisees charge close to double the rates of independent builders. He also explains the pay-for-work guarantee and why it is rarely claimed. If you are a qualified builder or a seriously handy tradie in New Zealand thinking about your next move, this one is worth your time.

EPISODE 129 -  “FRANK LOVEJOY: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” - 3/02/2026  I think many people know that one of our favorite films is In a Lonely Place (1950). Directed by NICHOLAS RAY, this film noir is the tragic story of a love affair unraveling at the hands of doubt and distrust. It stars HUMPHREY BOGART and GLORIA GRAHAME in roles that would be career-defining. However, adding quiet strength to the film is FRANK LOVEJOY, who played Brub Nicolai, Bogart's ex-army buddy turned private investigator. In the film, Lovejoy is not flashy, nor does he attempt to steal scenes, but he is so solid, so decent — he becomes the moral compass and Greek Chorus that helps define the narrative. What was so wonderful about Lovejoy was just how ordinary he was. He was Everyman. Square-jawed, no-nonsense, he looked like your Dad, or your uncle, or your local butcher. He wouldn't stand out in a crowd, but he brought such humanity and decency to every role he performed. You may not know his name, but you certainly know his face. So this week, we are going to dive into the life and career of FRANK LOVEJOY, an unsung hero of classic cinema, and our Star of the Month SHOW NOTES:  Sources: Wikipedia.com; TCM.com; IBDB.com; IMDBPro.com; Movies Mentioned: Black Bart (1948), starring Yvonne DeCarlo & Dan Duryea; Home of the Brave (1949), starring James Edwards & Lloyd Bridges; In A Lonely Place (1950), starring Humphrey Bogart & Gloria Grahame; South Sea Sinner (1950), starring MacDonald Carey & Shelley Winters; Three Secrets (1950), starring Eleanor Parker, Patricia Neal, and Ruth Roman; Breakthrough (1950), starring John Agar & David Brian;  The Sound of Fury (1950), starring Frank Lovejoy, Kathleen Ryan, & Richard Carlson' Goodbye My Fancy (1951), starring Joan Crawford & Robert Young; Force of Arms (1951), starring Wiliam Holden & Nancy Olson; I'll See You In My Dreams (1951), starring Doris Day & Danny Thomas; Starlift (1951), starring Gary Cooper & Doris Day; I Was A Communist For The FBI (1951), starring Frank Lovejoy & Dorothy Hart; Retreat, Hell! EPISODE 112 -  “CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH: JACQUELINE WHITE” - 11/03/25 When we think of our beloved Classic film stars who are still with us, we tend to think of EVA MARIE SAINT, ANN BLYTH, KIM NOVAK, ROBERT WAGNOR, or DICK VAN DYKE, however, there is one star among us who will be turning 103 in November. The name JACQUELINE WHITE may not ring any bells today, but for a brief time in the 1940s, she was a beautiful, talented leading lady with much promise. In fact, when she was up for the lead role of the mother in the 1946 film The Yearling, she was told by the producers that she was too beautiful to portray the simple pioneer woman. The role went to JANE WYMAN, who probably would have been none-too-pleased to know that, apparently, she was just fine playing such a plain and simple woman! But as a consolation prize, Wyman was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress. Join us as we pay tribute to Jacqueline White and her contribution to classic cinema.  SHOW NOTES:  Sources: Jacqueline White Official Biography, 1946, RKO Studios; “Jacqueline White May Be The New Irene Dunne, December 1, 1946, Los Angeles Times; “Jacqueline White to Wed,” September 20, 1948, by Louella Parsons, Los Angeles Examiner; “Snappy Shots,” October 24, 1948, by Dorothy Manners, Los Angeles Examiner; “An Interview With…Jacqueline White,” by Mike Fitzgerald, Western Clippings; Wikipedia.com; TCM.com; IBDB.com; IMDBPro.com; Movies Mentioned: Dr. Gillespie's New Assistant  (1942), starring Lionel Barrymore, Van Johnson, & Susan Peters; Reunion in France (1942), starring Joan Crawford & John Wayne; Air Raid Wardens (1943), starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, & Jacqueline White; Three Hearts for Julia (1943), starring Ann Sothern & Melvyn Douglas; Pilot #5 (1943), starring Franchot Tone, Marsha Hunt, & Gene Kelly; Swing Shift Maisie (1943), starring Ann Sothern & James Craig; A Guy Named Joe (1943), starring Spencer Tracy, Irene Dunne, & Van Johnson; Song of Russia (1944), starring Robert Taylor & Susan Peters; Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944), starring Spencer Tracy, Van Johnson, & Robert Walker; The Harvey Girls (1946), starring Judy Garland, John Hodiak, & Angela Lansbury; The Show Off (1946), starring Red Skelton, Marilyn Maxwell, & Marjorie Main; Banjo (1947), starring Sharron Moffat & Jacqueline White; Seven Keys To Baldpate (1947), starring Phillip Terry & Jacqueline White; Crossfire (1947), starring Robert Young, Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan, & Gloria Grahame; Night Song (1947); starring Dana Andrews & Merle Oberon; Return of the Bad Men (1948), starring Randolph Scott, Robert Ryan, Anne Jeffries, & Jacqueline White; Mystery In Mexico (1948), starring William Lundigan & Jacqueline White; Riders on The Range (1950), starring Tim Holt & Jacqueline White; The Capture (1950), starring Lew Ayres & Teresa Wright The Narrow Margin (1952), starring Charles MacGRaw, Marie Windsor & Jacqueline White; --------------------------------- http://www.airwavemedia.com Please contact sales@advertisecast.com if you would like to advertise on our podcast. EPISODE 95 -  “VIRGINIA GREY: Classic Cinema Star of the Month” - 7/07/25 If VIRGINIA GREY is remembered at all, the blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty is probably best remembered as the caustic perfume counter girl in The Women (1939), who sees right through the gold-digging ways of Crystal Allen, played by JOAN CRAWFORD. In these brief scenes, she is so charismatic and saucy, she really shows how to deliver a zinger of a line. She may also be remembered as the good luck charm of producer ROSS HUNTER, who put her in many of his popular movies of the mid-1950s and 1960s. But there was so much more to this talented actress. This week, we explore her life and career as we honor her as our Star of the Month.  SHOW NOTES:  Sources: “Virginia Grey, a Veteran of 100 moves, dies at 87,” August 6, 2003, New York Times; Robert Taylor: The Man WIth the Perfect Profile (1973), by Jane Ellen Wayne; “The Girl Who Won Gable Back,” November 1951, by Linda Griffin, Modern Screen magazine; “An Interview With Virginia Grey,” by Mike Fitzgerald, www.westernclippings.com; “Virginia Grey,” briansdriveintheater.com; Wikipedia.com; TCM.com; IBDB.com; IMDBPro.com; Movies Mentioned:  The Women (1939), starring Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, & Rosalind Russell; Uncle Tom's Cabin (1927), starring James B. Not-so perfect alibis, a missing wife, and some supernatural horrors are on deck with my favorite Suspense episodes from 1946. Joseph Cotten commits an impulsive murder and has to reverse engineer an alibi in "Crime Without Passion" (originally aired on CBS on May 2, 1946), and J. Carrol Naish hopes he can disappear into the crowd after killing his wife in "Commuter's Ticket" (originally aired on CBS on August 1, 1946). Robert Young searches for his wife when she leaves after a fight - and disappears - in "You'll Never See Me Again" (originally aired on September 2, 1946). Brian Donlevy is a psychiatrist whose new patient is a human lie detector in "Lazarus Walks" (originally aired on CBS on October 31, 1946), and Robert Taylor stars in what may be the scariest Suspense story ever - "The House in Cypress Canyon" (originally aired on CBS on December 5, 1946).

1947's Crossfire, directed by Edward Dmytryk, is based on the novel The Brick Foxhole by Richard Brooks.  In Brooks' novel, a gay man is murdered by a soldier on leave but the film had to adhere to a Hays Code which didn't allow for depictions of homosexuality so anti-Jewish sentiment became the reason for the killing.  Ironically, it was the film's theme of anti-semitism that put it's makers in the crosshairs of Senator Joseph McCarthy's anti-communist HUAC hearings.  It's director and writer John Paxton ended in prison for their views.  The film stars the Robert dream team of Robert Ryan, Robert Young and Robert Mitchum.
