Raymond Bisha introduces the third instalment of a collectable series of seven albums showcasing Ukraine-born composer Alexey Shor's appealing personal style and superb craftsmanship. The programme features vivid portraits of literary figures for piano (Behzod Abduraimov) and orchestra (Kyiv Virtuosi), similarly an homage to Glinka, and a dazzling concerto for flute (Jasmine Choi). The conductors are Dmitry Yablonsky and Massimiliano Caldi. Commenting on a previous album of Shor's music (8.579061), MusicWeb International noted how Shor's popularity “is easy to understand. His idiom is highly melodic, lively, varied, deftly orchestrated – and could have been written at almost any time in the last century. His gift seems to be for the miniature, and he invests his pieces with great variety.”

"I found the overall feel of the recording, especially the regular chirping of the crickets, to be very relaxing, and this led me into thinking that I needed to produce something calming and meditative. "I wanted to keep the field recording running throughout, but after a few trial runs I felt that I needed more room to play with, so extended the recording by replicating a section from the middle and seamlessly blending the joins. "The synth of choice for this was the Audrey 2; it uses feedback synthesis to produce wailing screeches reminiscent of howling guitars, but which with practice can also be nurtured into organic drones that can take on the form of low level choral chanting. I ran the primary stereo output of the Audrey back into an additional audio track, but pitch-shifted down 2 octaves in order to provide a low-level bass track and thus adding some warmth to the overall texture. "The final flourish was to add in some intermittent ‘twinkling' using a midi keyboard into some Eurorack modules." This is the classic warm evening soundscape high up in the mountains. Crickets, edible dormice, mountain dogs combine stridulations and vocalisations to form a rich and evocative ear massage. On this recording a wild boar briefly visits my microphones right by our garden fence. In the past you might have heard distant goat or sheep bells ringing as the flocks graze in the upland summer pastures. Only one flock is left so this musical and occupational voice fast disappearing. Tennyson wrote a famous poem for New Year's Day, or any day. Jonathan Dove, a contemporary English composer, set it to music. This episode begins with that piece. There is also a song from the American Revolution, sometimes known as “Chester” (“Let tyrants shake their iron rod”). Jay further includes a little-known composer from Brazil with a flavorful name: Radamés Gnattali. Then you get Brahms and others. A nice, varied menu. Graduating from Brevard College in 2020 with degrees in Music and Theatre, Anthony has found a path to pursue acting, singing, and writing locally and in Atlanta. His recent collaborations with UGA's Masters in Film Arts have given him invaluable experience in assistant directing two films, The Reenactment and Whistle in the Dark and starring in two others: Tune in Next Time and Nocturne. As an actor and singer, he's proud to say he's played shows at The Foundry, The Classic Center, and the many famous theatres in town like Town & Gown and The Morton Theatre. He's looking forward to performing in New York City's renowned off-broadway cabaret, 54 Below in March of 2025.As the event coordinator for the inaugural Athens Film Fest, he believes that the way forward is through community. His philosophy of abandoning our fight for the singular seat at “the table” and building a table for Athens where we can all eat has been at the forefront of his work, and he is excited to uplift the local artists' voices to continue adding to the beautiful artistic tapestry of Athens, GA.

CLUBAST 093 comes in heavy with a mix from some of my favorite producer/djs in Philly, @zillasonacid They delivered that perfect Zillas sound that I can only describe as Basement House & Rolling Sleazy Techno. Since the 2019 release of their EPs Black Cat (Optimo Music) and She Takes NRG (Ivan Smagghe's Les Disques de la Mort), the Zillas have been busy building a steady catalog of music for labels like Polari, Nocturne, Dischi Autunno, Inside Out, Multi Culti, Throne of Blood, Microdosing, and more. Along the way, they've garnered support from futuristic fellow travelers like Roman Flügel, Dixon, Jennifer Cardini, Justin Strauss, Bradley Zero, Sean Johnston, and many others. Deep in the studio or out in the club, the Zillas mix slow-motion death disco, dubbed-out drum machine music, and of course ACID to excite party people from all planets. As always you can stream all the mixes on the iTunes Podcast app or Player.FM https://www.CLUBBYBOY.com

Send us a textI was a little under the weather recently which put a sizable ding in our recording schedule with the holidays coming up. Our Low Fill Awards and Clip Show episodes may be releasing later than usual this year. My apologies.Instead, please enjoy this guest spot I did for the fine fellows over at The ATI Podcast. Hosted by Barrett Lewis and joined by myself and Eli Lachance of Nocturne books, we had a great chat about a cool horror anthology that I'd not seen before. We should be back to our regular release schedule by the next eipsode. If you love this, our Patreon gets these episodes 2 weeks early and episodes of Black Label a month early. Get early access to everything we make for 4 bucks. You give the homeless dude at the intersection more than that. I've seen you. It's Just 2 Movies is part of the Manic Compression Group! Have a podcast and want to join?
