What happens when people try to make a name for themselves instead of lifting up the name of God?In this message, we explore Genesis 10–11, where we see the spread of the nations after the flood, the pride of Babel, and God's response to mankind's self-promotion. From the Table of Nations to the Tower of Babel, we discover how God's redemptive plan is at work, even when humanity chooses its own way. You'll learn:Why God scattered the nationsHow language, identity, and purpose are connected in ScriptureWhy trying to "make a name for ourselves" misses the markHow God's heart has always been for all people, every nation
Genesis 10 and 11 take us from the genealogies of nations to the towering pride of Babel. In this episode of Rooted Together, we explore how God's command to fill the earth was initially resisted, and how humanity's desire to “make a name” for itself led to confusion, scattering, and divine intervention. Yet even here, we see the unfolding of God's sovereign plan to form a people for His name. What You'll Learn:1️⃣ The purpose of Genesis 10's Table of Nations and why it matters today 2️⃣ What the Tower of Babel reveals about human pride and disobedience 3️⃣ How God confuses language to protect His redemptive plan4️⃣ Why this moment is not the end, but the beginning of God's call to Abraham in Genesis 12Genesis 10–11 reminds us that God is in control, even when humanity strays. He scatters, but He also gathers for His glory.Listen now and stay Rooted Together in the unfolding story of nations, pride, and promise.#GenesisBibleStudy#TowerOfBabel#RootedTogetherPodcast#Genesis10#Genesis11#BibleTeaching#ChristianPodcast#TableOfNations#BiblicalOrigins#GodsSovereignty#PrideAndHumility#ScatteredToBeGathered#LanguageAndLegacy#ScriptureSpeaks#FaithInTheWord#RootedInChrist#ChristianLiving#GenesisSeries#GodsPlanPrevails

Contemplating the scope of conflict around the globe, let alone within a home, can be discouraging. Since 1948 there have been 72 U.N. peacekeeping missions. The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law is presently monitoring 110 armed ethnic conflicts around the globe. UCLA's Anderson Review published September 2023 observed: polarization by cultural values, not by ethnicity, is related to human desire to associate with like-minded folks (homophily), and tends toward maximum antagonism towards those on the other side of the cultural divide. Political parties have become closely aligned with entrenched polarized values leading to the perception of greater polarization. In the midst of this cultural moment of conflict and polarization how did we get here, and is there meaningful hope of unity?

If you've ever tried to trace your family tree, you know how complicated it can get. There are names you don't recognize, distant relatives you've never met, stories half-remembered. Now imagine tracing not just your family, but tracing back to the beginning of the human race. That's what Genesis 10 gives us. Often called the “Table of Nations,” it's a record of how the descendants of Noah's three sons spread across the earth after the flood. But more than a list of names, it's a map of God's faithfulness, setting the stage for every nation, every language, and ultimately, for the story of salvation that will unfold. The Rev. Roger Mullet, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Buffalo, WY, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Genesis 10. Genesis isn't just the start of the Bible; it's the foundation of everything. Creation, sin, judgment, grace, covenant, and promise all take root in this remarkable book. The stories are ancient, but their truths are eternal. In this new series from Thy Strong Word, Pastor Phil Booe and his guests walk verse by verse through Genesis, exploring how God reveals Himself as Creator, Judge, and Redeemer. From the grandeur of the cosmos to the struggles of ordinary families, Genesis introduces us to a God who speaks, acts, and keeps His promises. So, whether you've read it a hundred times or are just now cracking it open for a serious look, this series will help you see Genesis with fresh eyes—and a deeper faith. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. At the Tower of Babel, humanity marshaled their creative powers to rival the Creator. What began as an expression of human pride became a monument to human folly, and a pointer to the better way of Jesus, the one who ascended through descending and ruled through serving. This message was given by Michael Bouterse, director of Thrive Harbor. Scripture passages cited (or alluded to) in this message include Genesis 1:28; 10:1-11:9; 12:1-3; Daniel 4:30; Revelation 2:17; Philippians 2:7; and Matthew 11:28-29.

After we wade through genealogies of Noah's sons, we encounter the tower of Babel, a monument to man's rebellion against God. Being made in the image of God, these men imitate their creator by creating, which is all well and good, except that they defy God's command to fill the earth and attempt to rob God of glory by making a name for themselves. God graciously uses language to scatter them so they can see the expansive majesty of His Creation rather than stare at the cute little tower they've made. In time, Abram is born, and God makes great promises as He calls Abram to follow His commands. Genesis 10 – 1:11 . Genesis 11 – 4:42 . Genesis 12 – 9:35 . Genesis 13 – 13:03 . Psalm 3 – 16:11 .
