Contemplating the scope of conflict around the globe, let alone within a home, can be discouraging. Since 1948 there have been 72 U.N. peacekeeping missions. The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law is presently monitoring 110 armed ethnic conflicts around the globe. UCLA's Anderson Review published September 2023 observed: polarization by cultural values, not by ethnicity, is related to human desire to associate with like-minded folks (homophily), and tends toward maximum antagonism towards those on the other side of the cultural divide. Political parties have become closely aligned with entrenched polarized values leading to the perception of greater polarization. In the midst of this cultural moment of conflict and polarization how did we get here, and is there meaningful hope of unity?

Wednesday night 4/30/25 - We are continuing our verse by verse study through the book of Genesis - The title of tonight's message is "The Descendants of Shem Ham and Japheth" - Genesis 10:1-32 - Pastor James Eakins
If you've ever tried to trace your family tree, you know how complicated it can get. There are names you don't recognize, distant relatives you've never met, stories half-remembered. Now imagine tracing not just your family, but tracing back to the beginning of the human race. That's what Genesis 10 gives us. Often called the “Table of Nations,” it's a record of how the descendants of Noah's three sons spread across the earth after the flood. But more than a list of names, it's a map of God's faithfulness, setting the stage for every nation, every language, and ultimately, for the story of salvation that will unfold. The Rev. Roger Mullet, pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Buffalo, WY, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Genesis 10. Genesis isn't just the start of the Bible; it's the foundation of everything. Creation, sin, judgment, grace, covenant, and promise all take root in this remarkable book. The stories are ancient, but their truths are eternal. In this new series from Thy Strong Word, Pastor Phil Booe and his guests walk verse by verse through Genesis, exploring how God reveals Himself as Creator, Judge, and Redeemer. From the grandeur of the cosmos to the struggles of ordinary families, Genesis introduces us to a God who speaks, acts, and keeps His promises. So, whether you've read it a hundred times or are just now cracking it open for a serious look, this series will help you see Genesis with fresh eyes—and a deeper faith. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Nations fall short of God's ideals, but removing government usually leads to anarchy. When listing the nations descended from Noah, Genesis 10 points out that Nimrod built a kingdom including places such as Babel and Ninevah. That's somewhat foreboding given our knowledge of the subsequent stories. Although it is good to be counter cultural, is the government (or government in general) always bad?
At the Tower of Babel, humanity marshaled their creative powers to rival the Creator. What began as an expression of human pride became a monument to human folly, and a pointer to the better way of Jesus, the one who ascended through descending and ruled through serving. This message was given by Michael Bouterse, director of Thrive Harbor. Scripture passages cited (or alluded to) in this message include Genesis 1:28; 10:1-11:9; 12:1-3; Daniel 4:30; Revelation 2:17; Philippians 2:7; and Matthew 11:28-29.

ON JANUARY 26, The Promise, Part 1 - Genesis 10-14 with Pastor Patrick Edwards, Ph.D. HERE'S THE DEAL: Our day to day lives can feel inconsequential. At best, we think we might be making a little difference, but how far can one person's effect really extend? God's great big plan, however, is accomplished through individuals, and if we believe in His spoken promises then we can live daily knowing He's always doing something big in us.

Jared Mellinger preached this sermon at Covenant Fellowship Church on January 12, 2025. Series: Non-Series Sunday Scripture: Genesis 10:31-32
When we read the Bible, we often skip right through genealogies. It can be easy to oversimplify them as "just a bunch of names." On Sunday morning, Hank preached on Genesis 10 and reminded us of God's faithfulness through the genealogy. Through Shem (and later Abraham, Jacob, and David), the Lord sought to give us a savior—Christ Jesus. We hope this sermon blesses you in the Lord. Originally January 12th, 2024. Hank Atchison. After we wade through genealogies of Noah's sons, we encounter the tower of Babel, a monument to man's rebellion against God. Being made in the image of God, these men imitate their creator by creating, which is all well and good, except that they defy God's command to fill the earth and attempt to rob God of glory by making a name for themselves. God graciously uses language to scatter them so they can see the expansive majesty of His Creation rather than stare at the cute little tower they've made. In time, Abram is born, and God makes great promises as He calls Abram to follow His commands. Genesis 10 – 1:11 . Genesis 11 – 4:42 . Genesis 12 – 9:35 . Genesis 13 – 13:03 . Psalm 3 – 16:11 .
