In this episode of the St. Emlyn's podcast, Rick Body and Greg Yates delve into the concept of likelihood ratios, an advanced yet practical tool for diagnosing patients in the emergency department. Building on the previous episode about predictive values, they explain how likelihood ratios help compare the probability of test results between diseased and non-diseased patients. They provide examples, like evaluating chest pain and using the Smith Calculator for Anterior ST Elevation, to show how likelihood ratios can change clinical decision-making. Rick and Greg also discuss Bayesian reasoning and how pretest and post-test probabilities are used in practice. 00:00 Introduction to the Podcast 00:34 Understanding Likelihood Ratios 02:05 Practical Example: Chest Pain Case 03:53 Calculating Likelihood Ratios 07:17 Applying Bayesian Reasoning 09:50 Recap and Conclusion
In this St. Emlyn's podcast, Rick Body and Greg Yates, continue our exploration of diagnostic test accuracy, shifting our focus to positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV). These concepts are vital for anyone preparing for exams or looking to enhance their application of diagnostic tests in clinical practice. While our last podcast discussion centred on sensitivity and specificity, PPV and NPV offer a different, arguably more clinically practical perspective on interpreting test results. Positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) are essential tools for understanding the effectiveness of diagnostic tests. PPV helps us determine the likelihood that a patient with a positive test result actually has the condition, whereas NPV helps us gauge the probability that a patient with a negative test result does not have the disease. These values are crucial for making informed clinical decisions, particularly when considering the prevalence of a condition in the population. Today, we'll delve into these concepts, their practical applications, and why it's important to consider both PPV and NPV alongside sensitivity and specificity. You can find more about this on the St Emlyn's Blog and please don't forget to like and subscribe.

Holy Moly! The show is back! For those of you who don't follow the show on Facebook or Twitter, I'll be posting the pictures here in another couple of days, outlining the New Studio Project. My return to the Podcast Zone was delayed a little bit by a faulty cable I needed to replace, plus I was getting into a weird funk. But fortunately I got a mental boot in the butt by Greg Yates over at the No Head Trash Nation Podcast. I met Greg a few weeks ago when I was in Orlando and, while he considers himself a relative newbie to podcasting, I'm constantly finding myself saying "Yeah, this guy knows his stuff." "Holy cow, he's right." He and I spoke face to face for about twenty minutes and I'm practically ready to follow him into a burning house. Anyway, Greg's a smart guy and you should check out his show. But first, you've been waiting forever for this show! And here it is! The songs in this show were actually selected several months ago, and I lost the list. (That does seem to happen to me a lot, doesn't it.) It turned up when I was cleaning out a computer bag, and I took it as a sign from above. Or from my computer bag, whatever. At any rate, you probably know that most of the songs I talk about today are covers, but I'm pretty sure I still have a couple of surprises for you. Go check it out. We are constantly bombarded with voices telling us who we are, what to be and what to believe. The outside voices may or may not impact us depending on who they are coming from, but the dangerous and diabolic voice is the one inside our own head talking trash to us and about us. We all have it. That little voice that tells us we cant, when we know we can. That tells us this time it wont work out. We hear that voice and all too often we believe it and give in to this trash. This is something we need to learn to combat and effectively win against. WHY? Because there is so much you are meant to do and in order to attain the life you are meant to live you cannot allow room for this head trash to rule you. Your life is meant for great things. You are meant to not only succeed, but to do so in a way that is significant. After all the money, all the glory fades, the life of significance is what last. This life of significance is your destiny. It is what you were made for. Listen in a special guest Greg Yates shares his story of how phenomenal success left him broken and how learning what was significant gave him the life he always wanted. Today on Thriving Entrepreneur hosted by Steve Kidd
Greg Yates’ life as the guest for today’s podcast episode brings light to the journey of brokenness into breaking through, from success to swamps, to success once more. in his life experiences and narration, we will undeniably learn a lot from it and hopefully, reflect on how we could also turn our lives into a successful and triumphant one. #276
We're backkkkkkk! This time we're doing a deep dive into the Greg Yates episodes, as suggested by listener Ryne. We talk about Greg Yates' background, Dallas Roberts' portrayal, the Erin/Olivia mentorship, the Voight/Olivia relationship and so much more. We also talk about which One Chicago characters watch Hallmark Christmas movies and whether or not Will is the older Halstead brother (hint: he is)! As always, we love to hear from our listeners and broaden the conversation. We are available on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr at @meetusatmollys, or you can email us at meetusatmollys@gmail.com! Our inbox is a safe space and is open to all.
Greg Yates braved the insanity that is Chicago's Market Days celebration so he could record our 110th episode and for that we thank him. We thank you, dear Greg, for sitting with us and watching "I'm Not D.J.", in which Topanga and Brace Face (AKA "the Jennifers") pressure poor Stephanie into getting her ears pierced. Is she ready? Should she have placed her trust in Kimmy, a girl who is only trying to help but is consistently demonized by everyone around her? Perhaps only Stephanie can answer these questions. She is an individual, after all! Oh, but back to the gratitude: Thank you, Greg, for enduring the scene at Uncle Jasper's Kiddie Kuts, otherwise known as the Well of Infinite Nightmares. And thank you, Greg, for telling us about your retainer mendacity and the worst haircut he ever received. We love you, Greg! XOXO
