In this moving conclusion to Still Here Hollywood, Steven Weber shares a lifetime's worth of insight with host Steve Kmetko—tackling the complexity of happiness, the toll of success, the loss of Studio 60 co-star Matthew Perry, and what it means to stay grounded in a world built for distraction. Weber opens up about learning to live with more intention, finding joy in travel and family rather than fame, and why getting out of your American bubble might be the most important thing a person can do. He speaks candidly about digital rage culture, the disappearance of reflection in an always-on media landscape, and his own struggles to stay empathetic in a time of outrage. With humor, depth, and surprising vulnerability, Weber proves that happiness isn't loud, it's earned—and that real success has more to do with balance than buzz. #StevenWeber #StillHereHollywood #SteveKmetko #MatthewPerry #Studio60 #Happiness #DigitalBurnout #Empathy #AgingInHollywood #ActorInterview #Barcelona #WingsTVShow #MentalHealth #Gratitude #HollywoodReflections #StevenWeberInterview #MustSeeTVShow Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com
In this honest and reflective Still Here Hollywood episode, Steven Weber pulls back the curtain on fame, failure, and finding your footing after the spotlight dims. He shares his nuanced views on marriage, calling it “too easy” and often misunderstood—advocating instead for emotional honesty over ceremony. Weber talks candidly about the end of Wings after eight seasons of Must-See TV glory, the industry's shifting expectations, and the harsh realization that success doesn't always guarantee the next great role. He recalls his post-Wings comedy Cursed, the ups and downs of early 2000s TV, and the delusion that success would be permanent. He also reveals the most powerful advice he's received—and now lives by: Be nice. This industry remembers. With stories about Mel Brooks, Barbara Streisand, and the real value of humility, this episode is a masterclass in staying grounded when the spotlight fades. #StevenWeber #StillHereHollywood #SteveKmetko #WingsTVShow #MarriageAdvice #HollywoodCareer #LifeAfterTV #BeNice #MelBrooks #CursedNBC #MustSeeTV #StevenWeberInterview #TVIcons #BehindTheScenes #HollywoodReflections #ActorAdviceShow Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com
In this heartfelt and deeply human episode of Still Here Hollywood, Steven Weber opens up to Steve Kmetko about life after the spotlight, parenting two gifted musician sons, navigating middle age, and learning how to embrace vulnerability in a world that doesn't always reward it. Weber reflects on the humor and humility of growing older, seeing his mother in the mirror, and being the “old guy” breaking up a mosh pit at his son's indie show. The conversation takes a powerful turn as Steve shares his personal story of surviving a stroke and the perspective that came with it. Weber gets candid about his complicated relationship with his ex-wife—still close, still connected, still family—and how that emotional maturity stands in stark contrast to the “affable jerk” roles he was once typecast in. With raw honesty and flashes of wit, this episode explores mortality, love, reinvention, and the surprising clarity that comes with surviving the hard stuff. #StevenWeber #StillHereHollywood #SteveKmetko #ActorInterview #StrokeRecovery #ParentingMusicians #AgingInHollywood #LoveAndLoss #RelationshipGoals #TheShining #WingsTVShow #ChicagoMed #MoshingDad #EmotionalGrowth #HollywoodReflections #StevenWeberInterview #VulnerabilityMatters #LateCareerTruthsShow Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com
In this deeply honest and wide-ranging conversation on Still Here Hollywood, Steven Weber (Wings, The Shining, Single White Female) opens up to Steve Kmetko about the roles that shaped—and haunted—his career. From his infamous death-by-stiletto scene in Single White Female to portraying Jack Torrance in Stephen King's The Shining miniseries, Weber reflects on what he'd do differently today, wishing he'd taken himself more seriously as an actor. He shares his admiration for great directors who bring out an actor's best, his dream of working with someone who truly “gets” him, and his love of old-school Hollywood storytelling. Along the way, Weber and Kmetko dive into everything from the legacy of Hitchcock and Patricia Hitchcock to Weber's fanboy meltdown meeting Stephen Soderbergh. The episode also takes a powerful turn as Kmetko bravely shares his recent stroke story and the miracle that followed. With reflections on regret, reinvention, and creative hunger, this is one of the most compelling and human interviews yet. #StevenWeber #StillHereHollywood #SteveKmetko #TheShining #SingleWhiteFemale #JackTorrance #StephenKing #ClassicMovies #HollywoodReflections #TVIcons #StrokeRecovery #StephenSoderbergh #BridgetFonda #JenniferJasonLeigh #Hitchcock #BehindTheScenes #ActorInterview #StevenWeberInterviewShow Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com
In this hilarious and heartwarming episode of Still Here Hollywood, Steven Weber (Wings, Chicago Med, Studio 60) dives into his most memorable celebrity run-ins—from spotting Dolly Parton mid-traffic rant, to brushing elbows with Barbara Streisand, Kathy Bates, and Stephen Soderbergh—all while still geeking out like the lifelong fan he is. Steven and host Steve Kmetko swap unbelievable Hollywood moments, discuss their mutual love of dogs (meet “Cat the dog”), and wax nostalgic about Chicago's theater scene, including the legendary Second City, Steppenwolf, and Goodman Theatre. Weber reflects on his improv roots, regrets about fanboying too hard, and why being cast as “the affable jerk” was both a blessing and a typecast. This episode is a wild ride through Hollywood history, fan encounters, and aging in an industry that doesn't always age with you. #StevenWeber #StillHereHollywood #SteveKmetko #CelebrityStories #WingsTVShow #ChicagoMed #BarbaraStreisand #DollyParton #StephenSoderbergh #SecondCityChicago #SteppenwolfTheatre #ImprovComedy #HollywoodIcons #BehindTheScenes #TVLegends #BroadwayToHollywood #ActorInterview #StevenWeberInterviewShow Credits Host/Producer: Steve Kmetko All things technical: Justin Zangerle Executive Producer: Jim Lichtenstein Music by: Brian Sanyshyn Transcription: Mushtaq Hussain https://stillherehollywood.com http://patreon.com/stillherehollywood Suggest Guests at: stillherehollywood@gmail.com Advertise on Still Here Hollywood: jim@stillherenetwork.com Publicist: Maggie Perlich: maggie@numbertwelvemarketing.com

“One thing I've found in the crime genre is that homicides are always interesting. When somebody's killed, whatever that case may be, it's usually compelling drama. So then it's up to you as the writer to surprise the audience and do things that they didn't think were coming. I've described it like this before: If you can hit the sweet spot of, ‘I didn't see that coming! I should have seen it coming, but I didn't see it coming,' That, to me, is the best writing. It's like, when you got to the end of The Sixth Sense, and you were like, ‘Oh my god, I should have seen that coming!' That was great writing,” says Derek Haas, creator and writer for the show Countdown on Prime. You may know Derek Haas from the popular NBC procedural dramas like Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. Now, he's got a new crime drama on Prime called Countdown that tells one twisty crime story over 13 episodes – all written by Haas. Set in Los Angeles, Countdown follows a secret task force who discover a sinister international plot that threatens millions of lives. The show stars Eric Dane, Jensen Ackles and Jessica Camacho as undercover agents all harboring dark secrets of their own. On this episode of the podcast, we chat with Haas about starting his career as a crime novelist, writing movies like 2 Fast 2 Furious, 3:10 to Yuma and Wanted before making the switch to TV. Haas talks about working with director John Singleton, prolific TV producer Dick Wolf and writing characters that hook audiences. He also shares his advice for writing action sequences that both stun visually and surprise the audience. “When I think about action sequences, I always go back to Raiders of the Lost Ark. My favorite action sequence of any movie ever is when Indiana Jones has to fight this gigantic Nazi guy, and – in any other movie – that would have been the only thing that's happening. But they put Marion in a plane where she gets trapped because the cover of the plane closes. Then the plane's propellers start spinning. The plane starts spinning, gas is leaking out of the plane, there's other people running by with machine guns. So it's not just, ‘Oh, here's a fight,' it's ‘Here's a fight, but there's eight other things happening at once.' I really try to do that in these chase sequences, because you have seen a million of them. What's the other factors I can bring to it? How can I show you something you haven't seen before? Sometimes it's character, and sometimes, it's the stunt itself,” says Haas. To hear more screenwriting advice from Haas, listen to the podcast.

He's been a familiar face on television for years, on the long-running comedy Wings and the current Chicago Med. He grew up in a show-business family so it shouldn't be surprising that he loves to perform. His range is limitless and his credits attest to that: everything from Mel Brooks' stage musical The Producers to the TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining. He and Leonard enjoy exchanging old show-business trivia, and never seem to run out of material. Steven is an articulate connoisseur of comedy…and then some.

Today on Too Opinionated, we talk with actor Jeff Kober! His first appearance on the small screen was a non-billed role in the 1980s series V. Kober went on to supporting roles in the highly acclaimed Vietnam War drama China Beach and the short-lived, but now-cult horror series Kindred: The Embraced. Following these series, Kober has guested on some of the most popular television series of the day. They include Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, ER, 24, The Closer, General Hospital, Chicago Med, High Desert, Walker, Van Helsing, Big Sky, Bosch, Earth 2, Timeless, The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, New Girl, Lost, NYPD Blue, Star Trek Enterprise, Star Trek Voyager, JAG, The Closer, X-Files, and Criminal Minds. Kober's big screen career began with the film Out of Bounds, in which he played the first of his signature nefarious characters - Roy Gaddis, a small-time drug dealer with murderous inclinations. This role led to more film opportunities in The First Power, Tank Girl (a comedic turn), Defining Maggie, World Without Waves, Sully, and the remake of The Hills Have Eyes 2, among others.
