Many (if not most) women today are- often unintentionally and without realizing it- undernourishing to the point that our basic biological needs are not being met. Exhausted, anxious, and chasing down symptom after symptom, we are spending time, energy, and money on hormone testing, microbiome analysis, genetic sequencing, supplement protocols, etc. all while unknowingly not taking in enough calories and/or micronutrients for our bodies to work properly in the first place. Our culture today is awash in contradictory health information, food fear, warped wellness idealogies, and impossible beauty standards, but confusion around food and bodies goes back to at least our grandmothers' generation. We inherit nourishment beliefs and practices just as we inherit our mineral and nutrient stores. Ashley Wulkan- mother, herbalist, nutritionist, and mineral balancing practitioner- and I wish to simplify nourishment for women, not add to the noise. We do this for not only ourselves but for our collective mothers who never overcame their own food issues, and for our collective daughters who we fervently pray will adequately nourish themselves and their descendents far into the future. Let's rewrite the story. Today, I had the honor of connecting with Ashley Koff. She is a leading voice in personalized nutrition and the founder of the Better Nutrition Program. With over 25 years of experience and the groundbreaking GLP-1 Optimization System to her name, she's helped redefine how we approach sustainable weight health. In our conversation, we dive into how her book reframes the concept of healthy weight. We explore integrative perspectives on digestive health and GLP-1s, why many women blame themselves when they struggle to lose weight, and how Ashley's framework helps them remove that self-blame. We also discuss issues surrounding info-besity and the “less is more” approach, natural ways to support appetite regulation and satiety signaling, key areas of digestive health, and the importance of detoxification. Ashley also shares the red flags she sees in women who are undernourishing themselves or over-fasting, things to consider when you want to stop taking GLP-1s, and her opinions on new drug therapies. Join us for today's thought-provoking and insightful conversation around metabolic health and weight-loss resistance for women in middle age, perimenopause, and menopause. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: The interconnection that exists between digestion, hormones, and metabolic signaling How the hormonal fluctuation that occurs in perimenopause disrupts women's digestion What drives satiety?  How GLP-1 medications simply amplify, extend, or mimic an existing communication loop within the body rather than creating new pathways Why do women blame themselves when they cannot lose weight? How info-besity blocks the body from doing what it is naturally designed to do  Why detoxification is essential for supporting natural digestive and metabolic processes The red flags that indicate undernourishment or over-fasting in women What you need to think about before stopping GLP-1s Bio: Ashley Koff, RD, is the USA Today bestselling author of Your Best Shot (HarperOne) and founder of The Better Nutrition Program (BNP). An acclaimed weight-health expert and practitioner for more than 25 years, Koff is leading a transformative movement in personalized nutrition, turning “better, not perfect” choices into practical, sustainable strategies that deliver real outcomes. Our Daily Bread Podcast | Our Daily Bread

After wiping down tables with disinfectant, Shelia stooped to tie a garbage bag filled with used cups and plates. She heaved the bag over her shoulder and turned to survey the church’s multipurpose room. She’d volunteered to clean it for the next gathering and wanted to make sure it was ready. A thought fluttered through her mind: Would anyone notice? It’s easy to wonder if our everyday contributions to the kingdom are valued. Whether we clean, balance spreadsheets, lead a Bible study, or give money, so many of us remain unseen in our places of service and unnamed in public commendations. In Luke 8:1-2, the historian catalogs the faithful service of women in the ministry of Jesus. He lists three by name: Mary of Magdalene who was among the women freed of evil spirits and diseases; Joanna the wife of Chuza, who managed Herod’s household; and Susanna. Then Luke says, “Many others . . . were helping to support [Jesus and His disciples] out of their own means” (v. 3). Luke spotlights these unnamed women who invested themselves in supporting the gospel, and so underlines their value. Just as God includes unnamed women in His account of valuable contributions to His kingdom, He sees our efforts. He knows our names (John 10:3), and He sees our investment in His work (Hebrews 6:10).

The East London district of West Ham might be best known globally for the football team of the same name, but in the late 19th century, the area became famous for something much darker. West Ham, and in particular, a single road within the district, became the scene for a series of unusual disappearances that took place over more than a decade, as young girls were vanished away from the streets, never to be seen again. At least until one was found dead and stuffed into a cupboard in an empty house.SOURCES Bondeson, Jan (2016) Rivals of The Ripper: Unsolved Murders of Women in Late Victorian London. For 14 years, while Syria was divided by civil war, Kurds in the north-east of the country tried to build a new democratic society, with equality for men and women – an inspiration for feminists around the world. But now, the Kurdish autonomous area, Rojava, is coming back under the control of a central government that's now run by former Islamists. Reporter Tim Whewell asks whether Rojava's rare social experiment - including all-women fighting units – will survive? He interviews Kurdish women, including the young co-mayor of one of the area's main cities, who's determined to continue her work, and learns about the origins of Rojava's unusual system. He also talks to a woman who says she and her family witnessed the killing in January this year of unarmed Kurdish men, by fighters supporting the central government. As such allegations multiply, many Kurds are nervous about their future in a united Syria. This episode of The Documentary comes to you from Assignment, investigations and journeys into the heart of global events.

She writes with raw honesty about making herself smaller, both literally and metaphorically, in order to be a good daughter, a good wife, a good mother, and all the ways she allowed herself to be diminished to keep the peace, and how many others do this too. The 12 essays blend cultural commentary, personal experience, reportage, and history. We talked about the vulnerable process of writing a personal book of essays, including writing about divorce, motherhood, and the importance of respecting one's appetite in every way, from creative to physical. I always love talking to Savala and loved getting to catch up with her here. Let us know if you listen.

We talk about internalized misogyny, comparison, scarcity mindset, body image, activism fatigue, and the role everyday women can play in systemic change.Maggie also shares her deeply personal story of pregnancy loss, grief, and the moment that birthed the message: Every Woman Is Worthy. This episode is equal parts sobering and hopeful. Because while the statistics are real, so is the momentum.Women are more educated than ever.Women are inheriting unprecedented wealth.Women are organizing, leading, and rising worldwide. And small actions? They matter. Not sure what to do with your sadness and anger? Meet Maggie. She has great ideas on how to act now to support women.  Key TakeawaysWorth is a birthright, not something you earn.Comparison is often systemic, not personal failure.Women in leadership improve peace agreements, economies, and health outcomes.Rage can be productive, but it must move through action.Body image messaging begins earlier than most parents realize.Small, aligned action moves the needle.Maggie's Links:Shop: everywomanisworthy.comIG: https://www.instagram.com/everywomanisworthy/Want to leave the TTSL Podcast a voicemail? This week on Church History Matters, hosts Scott Woodward and Casey Griffiths kick off an important new series exploring women and the priesthood, joined by cohost Lisa Olsen Tait, a respected scholar of Latter-day Saint women's history. In this opening episode, the team lays a thoughtful historical foundation—examining how women in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have understood, accessed, and spoken about priesthood power from the 19th century to today. Drawing on original documents, sermons, Relief Society minutes, and lived experience, they explore how Mormon women have been taught about priesthood authority, temple covenants, healing blessings, and spiritual gifts across generations. With clarity and optimism, Scott, Casey, and Lisa frame the discussion around a powerful truth: women have always had a vital and meaningful connection to the priesthood of God. Rather than focusing solely on policy questions, this series seeks to illuminate doctrine, covenant relationships, and the ways Latter-day Saint women participate in and access priesthood power in their homes, congregations, and temples. This is the first episode in a multi-part series that promises historical depth, faithful scholarship, and a hopeful exploration of how priesthood power blesses the entire covenant community.

Washington, D.C.March 3, 1913. The day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration, a twenty-six-year-old lawyer named Inez Milholland climbed onto a white horse and led more than five thousand women down Pennsylvania Avenue in the largest suffrage demonstration the nation had ever seen. They never made it four blocks before a mob of a quarter million men surged into the street. Women were grabbed, shoved, spat upon, and pelted with bottles while D.C. police laughed along with the crowd. Over a hundred marchers were hospitalized. Helen Keller was so shaken she couldn't speak. The cavalry had to be called from Fort Myer to restore order. Meanwhile, Ida B. Wells-Barnett defied orders to march in the back of the parade and took her rightful place with the Illinois delegation. The resulting scandal cost the police superintendent his career — and gave the suffrage movement the momentum that would carry it to the Nineteenth Amendment.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/true-crime-historian--2909311/support.You can pay more if you want to, but rent at the Safe House is still just a buck a week, and you can get access to over 400 ad-free episodes from the dusty vault, Safe House Exclusives, direct access to the Boss, and whatever personal services you require. We invite you to our other PULPULAR MEDIA podcasts:If disaster is more your jam, check out CATASTROPHIC CALAMITIES, telling the stories of famous and forgotten tragedies of the 19th and 20th centuries. What could go wrong? I have so many fun and wonderful things to share with you that I had to just jump on and talk them out with you today. First up, I did some reflecting on my book, It's Time to Talk to Your Kids About Porn, being out in the world for a whole year and shared the ways we have seen God work. It's been so hard at times and yet, so worth it. In honor of the book being a year old, I am doing my first ever master class/book club (it's a little of both!) with all of you! The links to sign up are below so you can jump in before the class fills up. I also got to share our super fun family news: we're taking another family trip to Italy, and we want you to come! That is right, a trip to Italy for the whole family, organized and led by Select Tours International and hosted by Aaron and myself.  All the info at the link below. We can't wait for you to join us! Lastly, if you need a trip just for you and not the whole family, consider joining me on my walking retreat in the Cotswolds this fall! Women's History Month is here, and Nikki & Brie are turning it into a full-on movement on The Nikki & Brie Show. This isn't a “check the calendar” moment. It's about honoring resilience, leadership, impact, and the stories that built the world we're living in. All month long, they're bringing you a stacked lineup of badass women, from WWE Superstars to elite athletes, authors, journalists, and trailblazers across every lane, all showing up with the real, the raw, and the tools that helped them rise. In this kickoff episode, the twins get personal about why this series matters now. Nikki breaks down how recent Women's History Month truly is (1987!), and why that reminder hits different when you realize how close we still are to the fight for basic rights and recognition. Brie dives into the “behind the curtain” cost of breaking barriers, from giving up privacy to being judged forever off old moments, and why she'd still choose purpose over comfort every time. Together they talk persistence, unlearning people-pleasing, setting boundaries, and how sometimes the only way to be heard is to break the rules just enough to change the game. The episode wraps with an Inspiration & Affirmation that honors the woman who knows she brings value everywhere she goes! Get ready for a month of truth, evolution, and pure inspiration. Today, I am honored to connect with a friend and fellow nurse practitioner, Marcelle Pick! Marcelle is passionate about transforming how women experience healthcare through an integrative approach. She has successfully treated thousands of women through her unique approach to wellness. Marcelle is currently a faculty member of The Institute of Functional Medicine and has served as a Medical Advisor to Healthy Living Magazine. She has written countless articles and multiple books, including Is It Me or My Hormones? I always think of Marcelle as a pioneer in the women's health/nurse practitioner space. In this episode, we dive into her background and the impact of the Women's Health Initiative. We discuss the limitations of the traditional allopathic model regarding hormones, common misconceptions about adrenal health, perimenopause, and menopause, adverse childhood events and adrenal health, how lifestyle affects our sex hormones, fibroids, endometriosis, PMS, PMDD, and contraception for perimenopause. We speak about endocrine disruptors, mold, and micro toxins. We also get into ways to think about hormone replacement therapy and ways to address intimacy and low libido. I love connecting with other nurses and nurse practitioners! I hope you will love today's conversation with Marcelle as much as I did! IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Marcelle was part of the first all-women practice in the country. How the Women's Health Initiative has impacted health care for women. The limitations of the traditional allopathic model are particularly in terms of perimenopause, menopause, and hormones. The less-common labs Marcelle likes to look at for her patients Marcelle shares her approach to unraveling the symptoms of perimenopause. Some unique ways in which Marcelle deals with problems like fibroids and endometriosis. How childhood trauma could lead to adrenal and autoimmune issues, weight-loss resistance, and various other health problems. Many of the things Marcelle recommended for treating PMS and PMDD back in the day (1985) have now become the standard of care. Contraceptive options for women in perimenopause. The impact of stress on adrenal function during perimenopause and menopause. Marcelle dives into liver health and detoxification, chemicals and other factors that could impact our health, and changes we can make to avoid problems and feel better.
