For a long time, marriage counseling was seen as a last-ditch effort—something couples did when they were already on the brink of divorce. While that stigma has lessened, many couples still wait way too long before seeking help—statistically, an average of seven years after problems first begin. In this episode, Aaron and I get real about our own journey with marriage counseling and introduce you to someone who's been instrumental in our growth: Dr. Jonathan Cude, our longtime marriage counselor. We sit down with Dr. Cude to talk about why he got into counseling, what struggles he sees couples facing most often, and what advice he has for those looking to build a strong foundation in their relationship. We also share the heart behind Pillow Talk, our new e-course designed to help couples navigate conflict and cultivate a thriving marriage. Neither of us had a lot of healthy, long-lasting marriages to look to for guidance, so we wanted to create something that combines our personal experience with expert insight. If counseling feels out of reach or intimidating, Pillow Talk offers another way to access practical tools and wisdom to strengthen your relationship. Join us for this honest and insightful conversation about what it really takes to build a marriage that not only lasts—but is actually fulfilling 20+ years down the road. Whether you are standing for a marriage to be restored or living with your spouse, it is essential never to stop asking God to change you as an individual and as a couple so you can be more like Jesus in every season. One way to change is to stop believing the lies of marriage myths. Some of these myths may have even played a role in the breakdown of your marriage. We've all likely heard comments like “happy couples do everything together” or “children should come first.” While many believe these examples to be sound relationship advice, these myths actually do more harm than good. Our guest, Julie Baumgardner shares common marriage myths and how to debunk them. As I work with couples, especially power couples and entrepreneurs, I've noticed a recurring pattern, and it all stems from the balance (or imbalance) of masculine and feminine energies.I'll explain how these energies influence our relationships, how they shift after major life changes like having children, and why this often causes friction in marriages. Have you ever wondered if your spouse is worthy of your forgiveness? “If God can forgive me for the things I have done, I can forgive my husband and fight for my marriage.” Lori, a woman who is standing for the healing of her marriage, spoke those powerful words. As Lori, a stander in Georgia, shared her testimony publicly, she reminded herself of why she decided to fight for her marriage. We can forgive just as we have been forgiven. This flashback episode will strengthen your resolve to forgive your spouse and encourage you to pray for your marriage to be all God wants.
