On Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, we pause to remember that every life is created by God, known by Him, and deeply valued. Together, we want to be people whose hearts are shaped by compassion, who start at home by honoring life in our everyday relationships, who ask God to open our eyes to the preborn, the vulnerable, and the unseen, and who rest in Jesus, the One who brings life in abundance. As we respond in faith, may our lives reflect His love, truth, and hope to a watching world.

"For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, that the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers and sisters. Whoever does not love abides in death." “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. O continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your salvation to the upright of heart!” (Psalm 5-10) Sanctity of Human Life Sunday – Scripture and the constant witness of the Church teach that human life is created in the image and likeness of God. The value of life, therefore, does not depend on law or personal preference. Rather, it depends on the purpose of God at creation, and His continuing love for human creatures. So great is this love, that He sent His Son to become human, to live as an embryo and become born, to live among us and suffer, to die and resurrect for our hope and glory. Sanctity of Human Life Sunday is today, the Sunday closest to the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. President Ronald Reagan first set the day aside in 1984 to give thanks for the gift of life, and to reaffirm our commitment to the dignity of every human being and the sanctity of each human life.
