During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology I'm basically peeling off my emotional Spanx and revealing my proverbial cellulite, stretch marks, and wobbly bits because we're diving deep into the subject of rest, which doesn't come naturally to me because more often than I'd like to admit, my default setting gets stuck on go. I know cognitively that God modeled rest when He crashed out on a celestial couch after creating the world and that since He gave us the gift of rest before the Fall, it's a perfect gift, not an accommodation for human weakness, however my worth and my word tend to be unhealthily intertwined and all too often I live at a frenetic pace that robs me and those I love of peace, isn't sustainable, and isn't what God calls us to as His beloved. Busyness really isn't a spiritual gift, y'all. I often find myself pondering how Jesus lived His life at a pace of 3 mph because He walked everywhere He went. He was fully present with people. He even took the time to welcome interruptions. If possible, I encourage you to actually sit down while you listen to this episode – don't try to listen while you're making dinner or working out because, well because that'd be like funneling chips and queso straight down your throat without savoring the crisp of the tortilla chips and the velvety tang of the cheese! So please pour yourself a cup of coffee or hot tea with honey and grab your Bible and prop your feet up on the porch with us. We're really glad you're here.

Do you often feel like what is the point of engaging politically or voting? Are you worried about the direction our nation is headed and what is next? Today Sharon McMahon is here to teach us about how our government functions and encourages us that individuals make a difference. She began as a government, history, and law teacher and then took her passion for educating to Instagram. Her platform grew rapidly as she has a way of helping all of us understand the process and history of the United States. Her new book The Small and the Mighty reminds us that each person has a part to play in our sphere of influence and shows us how the United States was founded on the backs of small but mighty people. Sharon encourages with this truth that “we must not grow weary in doing good”. Our ancestors who have suffered much continued to fight for justice and invest in the communities around them and we have so much to learn from their stories. Obligor Rebellion #RTTBROS #Nightlight Don't Grow Weary in Well Doing "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." - Galatians 6:9 (KJV) Have you ever felt like giving up on doing good? Perhaps you've been helping others, serving faithfully, or pursuing a God-given goal, but the results seem distant or nonexistent. Your energy wanes, your motivation diminishes, and that still, small voice whispers, "What's the point?" The Apostle Paul understood this struggle intimately. Writing to the Galatians, he acknowledged the reality of weariness in doing good works. But within this verse lies both a warning and a promise – a divine perspective on perseverance that can revolutionize our approach to spiritual fatigue. Consider the farmer who plants his seeds in spring. Day after day, he tends his fields, yet sees no immediate fruit. The summer sun beats down, weeds threaten to overtake his crop, and doubts may creep in. But the farmer understands something crucial: harvest operates on God's timeline, not ours. In the same way, our spiritual harvests often require seasons of patient endurance. The word "faint" in this verse comes from a Greek word meaning "to loosen or relax." It's a picture of letting go of the rope, of slacking in our efforts. But God calls us to hold fast, to maintain our grip even when our spiritual muscles ache. Remember Moses, who led the Israelites for forty years through the wilderness. Or Joseph, who waited thirteen years from his dreams to their fulfillment. Even Jesus Himself endured the cross "for the joy that was set before him" (Hebrews 12:2, KJV). These biblical examples remind us that weariness is not a sign of failure – it's often the precursor to breakthrough. The promise "in due season we shall reap" is God's guarantee that our labor in Him is never in vain. Every prayer, every act of kindness, every moment of faithful service is being recorded in heaven's ledger. The harvest will come – not because of our perfect performance, but because of His perfect faithfulness. Prayer: Heavenly Father, when weariness threatens to overwhelm us, help us remember Your promise of harvest. Strengthen our hands that hang down, establish our feeble knees, and help us to continue in well doing. Grant us the spiritual eyes to see beyond our present fatigue to Your eternal purposes. In Jesus' name, Amen. Reflection Questions: 1. What areas of "well doing" are you currently feeling weary in? 2. How does God's promise of "due season" change your perspective on your current challenges? 3. What practical steps can you take today to renew your strength and continue in faithfulness? In this final sermon of the “Rediscover the Gospel” series, Justin explores Galatians 6 and tackles the challenge of weariness in the Christian life. Using Paul's encouragement to not grow weary in doing good, Justin offers practical insights on how believers can continue to sow in the Spirit and reap a harvest in God's perfect timing. He challenges listeners to restore others, carry one another's burdens, contribute to spiritual growth, and persevere without giving up. Ultimately, Justin reminds us that just as Jesus didn't give up on the cross, we are called to persist in faith and good works, trusting that God's grace will sustain us.

Pastor Mike Breaks down the verse Galatians 6:9: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Saying yes to God's call on our life is an invitation to, well…care. To not just sit back and be a bystander, but to actually give a “you know what” about the world around us and the people in it. The thing about caring is that it can be really exhausting. In the face of all the bad news it can be challenging to not just throw in the towel and give up. We will wrap up our time in this series with a practical message about how to not grow weary.

Hebrews 12:1-11 ESVJesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.Do Not Grow Weary3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. 4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him.6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. & Don't be a Glutton? Today we are going to look at two seemingly unrelated topics, being a glutton and growing weary. First we'll look at gluttony, both physical AND Spiritual. We are told in Exodus 16 that the children of Israel murmured against Moses because they wanted meat to eat like they had in Egypt. We'll explore not only the obvious physical lesson against physically overeating meat from this story in Exodus as well as a possible Spiritual lesson about over indulging in Spiritual Meat? We tie all of this in with an encouraging message of not growing weary by taking breaks from Spiritual Meat and refreshing our Spirit in the Milk and Manna of Scripture... This message is a good reminder to be satisfied with the feast that YHWH sets before each of us and not constantly lust for more (I know I have been guilty of and had to repent for overeating at times (both physically and Spiritually), how about you?;)
You may or may not view yourself as a leader, but almost everyone has some kind of influence on those around them. The question is, “How are you leveraging that influence?” In this message from Nehemiah 5:19–24 from David Platt, we're challenged from the example of Nehemiah to see our influence as a responsibility before God. We want to point others to Christ and lay down our lives for their eternal good. In the end, followers of Jesus don't live for their own rights or for the opinions of men: we live for the commendation of God alone.
