Teddy Fowler checks in with stories from the Broken Skull Ranch and Rockport, Texas. He's got an update on the deer, the mowing, my favorite "Komodo" tractor, and he'll regale with even better stories about a planned fishing trip to Louisiana! It's a guys' trip... and there's a damn good reason why Teddy won't be partaking of any shared burritos! He & Steve also talk a little diet and nutrition, and how Steve's doing after quitting alcohol AND caffeine cold turkey! Oh... and a word to the wise - don't EVER offer Teddy sunflower seeds, and for god sake, if you have him over for dinner, don't serve him peas & carrots mixed together!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Barry, Abigail, and special guest Nick Martino discuss Ozomatli by Ozomatli and sample Sole of the Sea (collaboration with Rockport Brewing Company in Rockport, Massachusetts), Drip, and girl, so confusing from Lost Shoe Brewing and Roasting Company in Marlborough, Massachusetts.Nick is now a four-timer, having previously appeared on our second Christmas bonus episode, Bonus: A Christmas Day's Eve! Original Songs by Our Friends, and both of our live episodes: Bonus: LIVE from Stand Up! Pod Jam 2024: Pops on Hops Friend Exchange (New York Funk Exchange and Able Baker Brewing) and Bonus: LIVE from Stand Up! Pod Jam 2025: Neon Desert Challenge (the latter of which he also produced for us!). Give his previous appearances some love; they are a lot of fun!Nick, in part, chose to assign us this album because of Abigail's beef with He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince as displayed in Jukebox: He's the Drinker, We're the Talkers (DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince and Evil Genius Beer Company). Coincidentally, this album reminded Abigail of a different Derek Hummel, Sr., Jukebox selection, Make Yourself by Incubus, as discussed in Jukebox: Make Your Flight (Incubus and Hell 'n Blazes Brewing Co.).Both DJ Cut Chemist and MC Chali 2na left Ozomatli after this album because their other group, Jurassic 5, was blowing up.We found a great blog with additional information about and clips of Nick's favorite “trumpet battle” between Wynton Marsalis and Trombone Shorty at the House of Blues in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2009. Evidently, trumpet battles have been going on for over 100 years!Watch Chali 2na and New Orleans-based jazz band Naughty Professor perform Cut Chemist Suite live at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2018!Oh look, more self-promotion! O Le Le names Edie Brickell, whom we have previously reviewed (see Using Honeybees for the Meads [Edie Brickell & New Bohemians and B. Nektar]). We could think of at least one other time an artist we reviewed explicitly names an artist we'd previously reviewed: Crash Test Dummies (see Pops Shuffled His Flight [Crash Test Dummies and Toll Road Brewing Company]) names David Bryne (see Byrned-Again [David Byrne and Lincoln & South Brewing Company]) in When I Go Out with Artists. These two latter albums are both among Abigail's top five favorite albums we've ever reviewed, as revealed in our Pops on Hops Hot 100 Special!Super Bowl Sundae contains a sample that sounds very similar to a sample previously discussed on the podcast: Hip Hop Dancer's Theme by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince samples Peter Piper by Run-D.M.C., which sampled Take Me to the Mardi Gras by Bob James.Abigail plugged The Manifesto (feat. Trueno and Proof) off of Gorillaz' recently released The Mountain, a song featuring both Indian influence and a Spanish-language rapper!girl, so confusing was brewed with the 2026 Pink Boots hop blend from Yakima Chief Hops. Sales of this hop blend benefit the Pink Boots Society, which supports women and non-binary individuals in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry!Up next… I've Got My Own Album to Do by Ronnie WoodJingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group

Episode 413 of The VentureFizz Podcast features Scott Savitz, Founder and Managing Partner of Data Point Capital and Founder & former CEO of Shoebuy.com which is now known as Shoes.com. In my opinion, Boston doesn't give itself enough credit, especially when it comes to consumer brands. It's the home to consumer icons like Bose, SharkNinja, Dunkin, TJX, and many more. But if you look at the footwear category, it is a powerhouse with leading brands like New Balance, Converse, Sperry, Keds, Rockport and next generation companies like NoBull, Oofos, and BRUNT. So, maybe it comes as no surprise that one of the first companies to sell footwear online was headquartered in Boston and yes, that is Shoebuy. This was back in 1999, when buying shoes online wasn't a thing and even Zappos was just getting started. Thus, I was excited to break down this major eCommerce success story that completely disrupted an industry on so many different levels. Today, Scott is a Venture Capitalist and his firm, Data Point Capital, invests in revenue-stage technology companies across both B2B and B2C categories. The firm's portfolio includes DraftKings, Rent The Runway, Resident, Black Kite, Jebbit, and others. In this interview, we cover: * Scott's background story and early professional experience in the mortgage and banking industry. * What it was like building a company in the early days of eCommerce and ignoring the naysayers. * How Shoebuy won over the brands and the details about their - at the time - innovative virtual inventory model. * Strategies around customer acquisition combined with a focus on capital efficiency to scale the business. * The story of the acquisition to IAC. * What led Scott down the path of starting Data Point Capital and what they are targeting for investments. * And more

Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!SUF-CPT guarantees trainers to pass within 30-days and become a qualified CPT w/ SUFStop drowning in 800 pages and start studying what gyms and the NASM exam actually test. We map the shortest path to a pass—then show how to turn that pass into a paying career with confident programming, clear communication, and real-world coaching skills. We start with the keystones: the OPT model's five phases, the acute variables you must know cold, and how to spot supersets, tempos, and intensities at a glance. Then we make it practical. You'll hear how to connect planes of motion to real exercises, identify agonists and stabilizers on the fly, and use a simple corrective flow for common patterns like knee valgus or heels lifting. We also clarify assessments and tests—from the overhead squat to Rockport, VT1/VT2, push-up endurance, and the LEFT—plus the must-know vital sign basics and what counts as subjective vs objective data.Nutrition stays simple and test-relevant: calories per gram, AMDR ranges, and hydration targets. More importantly, we critique fluffy warm-ups and long cooldowns and replace them with a plug-and-play full-body structure that sells: push, pull, accessory; repeat with intent; finish strong. If the bench is taken at 5 pm, you'll know exactly how to pivot without losing flow or confidence. That's what hiring managers want to see on a crowded floor.Along the way, we share a success story that moves from passing to getting hired, explain why textbook-only learning stalls new trainers, and outline a smarter route: study guides, live coaching, and hands-on practice with oversight. We also talk about building a professional team with a physical therapist and a registered dietitian so you can stay in scope, refer out wisely, and charge like a pro.Ready to pass NASM fast and coach with confidence? The TML Risk Pool has seen far too many accidents and injuries in and around roadways. The Pool's goal is to provide tools to help Members avoid them, and we've developed a program to do just that. R.O.A.D. Ready (The acronym stands for Recognize the Hazards; Observe People, Processes, and Equipment; Assess the Risk Level; and Determine the Safest Course of Action) is a Risk Pool program designed to save lives, prevent injuries, and protect property by raising member awareness of dangers on and near roadways, and each January is designated as R.O.A.D. Ready month. The program recently received national attention through publication in the June 2025 edition of Professional Safety, the American Society of Safety Professionals' flagship monthly journal, which covers the latest safety management and injury prevention trends. The article, written by Risk Pool Safety and Loss Control Consultants Kolby Burkhart and Manny Trejo, is titled “Improving Roadways Safety: A Practical Framework to Protect Frontline Workers.” Check out the article here and listen to this episode to hear Kolby and Manny discuss ways to keep your city R.O.A.D. Ready! The Pool extends special recognition to the following R.O.A.D. Ready month participating Members: the Lower Valley Water District and the Cities of Anthony, Mont Belvieu, Beeville, Liberty Hill, Port Neches, Nederland, Rockport, Ingleside, Portland, Jasper, Livingston, Frisco, Schertz, and Fredericksburg.
