Fortunato recounts his path from the financial-crisis period to joining Kaching (which became Wealthfront), and explains key learnings: clients want to delegate investing, tactical allocation rarely delivers alpha, and systematic tax-loss harvesting can materially improve after-tax outcomes, later expanded via direct indexing. He describes Wealthfront's younger, growing client base, referral-led acquisition, and focus on ease of use and peace of mind, plus products like a portfolio line of credit and a growing home-lending opportunity driven by lower acquisition costs through automation. AI is officially in the workplace, on the group chat, and probably drafting someone's “thought leadership” while they're still in the shower. In this episode of This Is Woman's Work, Nicole Kalil goes toe-to-toe with the thing that's equal parts fascinating and mildly rage-inducing: AI and the future of work. Enter Katie Fortunato, Co-Founder and EVP of Platform Innovation & Strategy at Hire Innovations, a global leader in human-centered AI talent technology. Together, they unpack how to use AI as a tool (not a personality), how to avoid “automation without accountability,” and why the future belongs to humans who can still think, judge, and lead—aka the “skills” no bot can fake convincingly for long. In this episode, they get into: Why AI feels like cheating… and when it actually is The difference between using AI for productivity vs. outsourcing your identity “Brand choices” (aka: how to lose audience trust in one easy AI avatar) How to start using AI if it's intimidating: repeat-task lists, tiny experiments, and momentum Picking AI tools without spiraling: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude—and why it's like joining a gym AI in hiring: what “responsible AI” actually looks like in talent tech The uncomfortable truth: there is no 100% guarantee—so you need guardrails Vendor trust, data privacy, compliance, and why downloading random tools at work is chaos behavior Why protecting critical thinking is urgent—especially for kids (and honestly, adults too) The core takeaway: let AI handle repetitive work so humans can double down on context, curiosity, judgment, and care Wrap-up (because the point is the point): Nicole and Katie land on a clear line in the sand—AI can boost productivity, but it shouldn't replace human thinking, discernment, or authenticity. The future of work won't just be shaped by what AI can do; it'll be shaped by what people choose to protect while using it. Thank you to our sponsors! On this episode we talk about: How creators can monetize job-related content for the first time What “the ShopMy of job content” is and how it works Why most great jobs never hit LinkedIn or Indeed How brands can turn employees into a powerful referral and creator network What today's talent really wants: culture, fair pay, impact, and values alignment Top 3 Takeaways Job content is an untapped revenue stream for creators, newsletters, and communities whose audiences are anxious about layoffs, AI, and career uncertainty. Referral-style hiring is still king—turning your employees and creator partners into a scaled referral network beats sifting through hundreds of unqualified applicants. The strongest employer brands lead with culture, fair compensation, training, and real social impact, then back it up with values they actually live, not just words on a wall. Notable Quotes “We're basically democratizing access to referrals—anyone can refer anyone to a job.” “You can't outsource culture. It has to start at the top and be lived every day.” “People want to feel part of something bigger—what role is your company actually playing in society?” Connect with Katie Fortunato: Website / Platform: https://getjobstream.com/ Company: https://hireinnovations.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/katieclarkfortunato/ Learn more about your ad choices. What if the fastest way to unlock performance isn't to lead louder, but to host better? We sit down with best-selling author Steve Fortunato to rethink leadership through the lens of hospitality—not the restaurant kind, the human kind. Steve reveals why so much “look at me” leadership creates a vicious cycle of entitlement, and how the host mindset flips the script to “look at you,” building trust, engagement, and shared ownership. We dig into three practical principles you can apply today. First, speak the good: start by changing the inner voice you lead from, then actively name strengths in colleagues, clients, and your company to counter negativity bias and build momentum. Second, honor the other: elevate dignity with real curiosity, mine for the gold, and apply what you learn through personalized recognition, better questions, and tailored support. Third, earn respect, don't expect it: stand in their shoes to understand pressures and constraints, and pursue reconciliation when things go wrong so relationships are restored, not just transactions.Throughout the conversation, Steve connects leadership and hospitality with vivid stories: power dynamics that make customers feel “lucky to be here,” the ecosystem of value that requires giving before getting, and how small hosting rituals—clear openings, inviting voices, pronouncing names right, closing loops—quietly transform culture. We close with a simple loop to keep you improving: celebrate what worked, then pick one thing to refine next time. If you're ready to trade performative heroics for meaningful hosting, this one will change how you run meetings, lead projects, and serve customers.

Having completed "The Impossible House" project, Robert Fortunato changed his career and switched from the corporate world of mergers and acquisitions to helping others tap into the green movement. He is now a green building advocate, an experienced practitioner, consultant, and educator. This episode is a follow-on interview. Episode #230 documented his inspiring green home construction project. While he was told repeatedly why he could not pursue a fossil-free and healthy home, Robert was determined, got educated, convened smart collaborators, and "impossible" was transformed into reality. He burns no fossil fuels, his home is healthier, and his family is saving money every day.Robert and Ted discuss the role of green building consultants, helping clients to plan carefully, and to tap into new technologies that make sense. Robert is an owner's rep; he who works on behalf of clients. Like Ted, he has worked with schools, businesses, and homeowners making sure they realize savings for their investments.Robert stresses the need for consideration of green measures early in the design process. Things like relatively small investments in whole house surge protection can be readily incorporated, providing insurance for years to come. Robert and Ted talk about the merits of "doing it right" the first time: They discuss orientation for solar, recognizing varying levels of shading throughout the year and both its cooling benefits and solar power generation demerits. The short and long-term benefits of solar and green measures are front and center in the conversation... providing dollar savings, healthier environments and comfort. Robert and Ted focus on lifecycle benefits - which can be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars - versus the upfront costs of measures which can be in the tens of thousands. Solar and efficiency, and electric vehicles and heat pumps, can save money over time... serving as viable annuities. Robert presents his own home savings, now well over $60,000... money that he and his wife put into their son's college education.Robert describes the courses that he teaches for Southern California Edison. For the past ten years Robert has taught a course on building electrification, with invaluable lessons for architects, engineers, and lay people. They learn how to keep costs down while eliminating fossil fuels. A new course focuses on how to avoid costly panel upgrades through sophisticated controls and smart energy management, despite adding loads such as heat pumps and electric vehicles.

In the last blog, we looked at the first two UFO and occupant encounters reported by Italian security guard Piero Fortunato Zanfretta. The case was investigated by the Carabinieri (Italian Military Police) and evidence was found in the form of possible landing traces in the first and second instances with the addition of huge footprints in the second. In conscious recall, Zanfretta described encountering “an enormous green, ugly and frightful creature, with undulating skin, no less than ten feet tall.” Under hypnosis after the first instance, he said he was taken to a bright, hot place and examined by “monsters about 10 feet tall, with hairy green skin, yellow triangular eyes and red veins across the forehead” (he also described them having metal strips over their mouths) that told him they were from the “third galaxy,” wanted to talk to the people of Earth, and would return soon in greater numbers. This is the last of a three-part series of blogs covering the case of an Italian security guard (with the company Val Bisagno), Piero Fortunato Zanfretta, who reported a number of encounters with UFOs and their occupants.  After the first incident, he described in conscious recall being confronted by “an enormous green, ugly and frightful creature, with undulating skin, no less than ten feet tall.” Under hypnosis the story came out that he was taken up into a craft where he was interrogated and examined by as many as ten creatures “about 10 feet tall, with hairy green skin, yellow triangular eyes and red veins across the forehead” with metal strips over their mouths. He said they told him they were from the “third galaxy,” wanted to talk to the people of Earth, and would return soon in greater numbers. What does it mean to develop a host mindset?Today, Dan dives into the transformative principles of the 'host mindset' with Steve Fortunato, founder of roomforty and the Fig House. Steve shares his journey from a restaurateur and caterer to becoming an influential leadership facilitator, emphasizing the importance of making others feel valued. The conversation highlights the impact of hospitality in business, practical strategies to foster engagement, and the significance of personal growth and generosity-driven cultures. This episode is a deep exploration of how hospitality principles can enhance both personal and professional interactions, creating a kinder and collaborative environment.Takeaways: Approach every interaction, whether with clients, colleagues, or customers, with the intention to make others feel valued and cared for.Define a small set of practical, non-aspirational values that are deeply linked to your mission and vision. Integrate them into hiring, training, and daily operations.Seek out coaches, mentors, or peer groups who challenge you and help you grow. Stay open to learning and feedback.Give value first, without expecting immediate returns. Trust that value will come back to you through the virtuous cycle of generosity.Apply hospitality beyond the industry. Use these principles in any field or relationship.Even in gig-based or temporary workforces, make people feel important and included to inspire better performance and loyalty.Recognize that mastery is a journey, not a destination. Stay humble, coachable, and always strive to be better.Quote of the Show:“ I don't believe hospitality is an industry.
