The good news? It is Monday. Why is that good news? You get more Steve and Kevin talking about music! Unfortunately, we are still in 2020 but we are coming up on the busy holiday season. Isn’t it hard to believe?! This week Kevin is up and picked the band, picked the music, you know the deal!Kevin refers to a time when he decided to watch a live video on YouTube of the band and it was a show in a smaller club setting, no barricade, and the crowd WENT OFF! Immediately jumping and singing every word of the song that was so loud that you could barely hear the vocalist. The viewing of this video was at the heart of the pandemic and his eyes started to tear up with the feeling of “I may never get to experience this again!” We sincerely hope that some day soon that we will get to be back to doing these things and experiencing live music like we used to. Unfortunately, who knows WHEN that will be. Kevin quoted in the episode, “I’ll be damned if the last concert I ever went to was Dashboard Confessional” Obviously, nothing wrong with Dashboard but that is not the note he would like to go out on.This week’s featured band has had incredible success and was gearing up for a big headlining tour before things got shut down. Sara Conrad worked in the marketing department at the hospital where she gave birth in Northern California. The last thing she expected was to have a life-changing trauma there. “I love doing C-sections, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to get one.” Sara immediately felt unsupported when a doctor she’d never met responded to her birth plan by telling her she loved performing Cesareans, and the nurse seemed terrified that Sara was laboring on her hands and knees. Things got worse from there. “Don’t you care about your baby?” Unable to speak while on heavy medication and ignored by her care team, Sara was rolled back for a Cesarean without her consent and without knowing why she was having surgery. Afterwards, she felt disconnected from her baby and, on top of that, guilty about not feeling more joy about her birth. “This is my friend, and she doesn't believe me.” Her trauma carried through to postpartum, and she eventually left her job--angry and feeling betrayed about how she’d been treated and the lack of empathy and accountability from her co-workers. "I have a lot of rage and I want to use that to propel me forward and try to prevent it from happening to other people." Today, Sara is still seeking answers and healing--following up to take the hospital to task and to advocate for other birthing women by working on the documentary film about obstetric violence and birth trauma, Mother May I. From People.com: In his upcoming memoir, I’ll Be Damned, Eric Braeden delves into his traumatic beginnings that eventually led to his starring role as Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. The biggest surprise? His father was a member of the Nazi Party. Braeden was born in 1941, in Kiel, Germany and writes that the day after his mother left the hospital, it was destroyed by bombs. “I knew my father, who was the mayor of our town, was an honest, decent man and there was never a hint of anti-Semitism in our home. Like most German professionals and government officials of the time, he joined the Nazi Party,” said Braeden in an interview with TV Insider. “It was what one did. But he was not a part of the atrocities. In fact, I found out my eldest brother was approached by the Hitler Youth and my father forbade him to join. So I have come to peace with all that.” Eric Braeden later formed a German-American Cultural Society and continues to work on bettering the portrayal of Germans in the media. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the same strong will as Victor Newman in Y&R.

In 1980, partly spurred on by the advice of his pal Dabney Coleman, who urged him not to dismiss acting on a soap opera as beneath him, the great ERIC BRAEDEN --- who had already made quite a name for himself throughout the 1970s playing featured roles in films and guesting on the prime-time series of the day --- accepted what was originally intended to be a three-month role as a villain on The Young and the Restless.  Little did Mr. Braeden know at that time that his short-term part --- that of ruthless billionaire corporate raider Victor Newman --- would catch fire with the audience, and that Victor would still be the primary mover and shaker among the Genoa City society elite a full thirty-seven years later. Eric has just documented the story of all of the above --- as well as how he made the journey from war-torn Germany, where he was born, to the wilds of Hollywood --- in his brand new memoir, I’ll Be Damned, a spectacularly dishy, rip-snorting read which has just landed in bookstores via the HarperCollins, and he is stopping by the Buzz to talk about why he decided this was the right time to a publish an autobiography, to reflect on various of his co-stars from throughout his four decades on Y&R, and to discuss how he feels about the current turbulent political climate in this country in the months since last November's stunning presidential election!
