We have another One Bad Day as we head to Hollywood with Batman's shapeshifting foe, Clayface! We go back to 1940 for the first appearance of Basil Karlo aka Clayface then to James Tynion IV's revamp of his origin story (with a nod to Batman: The Animated Series). And we trade gloomy Gotham for sunny LA as Basil leaves a muddy trail of destruction through Tinsel Town in the truly amazing take from Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Xermánico in the One Bad Day series. We wrap up by speculating what is next for Clay including a potential role in The Batman 2. Ep. 96 What if Batman's villain Clayface had one bad day in Hollywood?Earth of an unknown designation as seen in Batman - One Bad Day: Clayface #1We have another One Bad Day, this time with Batman's shapeshifting foe Clayface! We provide backstories to the four primary Clayfaces (there are over eight of them in total including Clownface!) before diving into the initial appearance of the first Clayface (aka Basil Karlo) before he even had powers, back in 1940 from the minds of Bill Finger and Bob Kane. We jump to 2018 to see the current DC Universe's origin story for Basil/Clayface with Detective Comics Annual #1 from James Tynion IV and Eddy Barrows. We then center our conversation around the truly stellar multiverse story in One Bad Day that sees Basil travel to Los Angeles for a one day homicidal stroll in the sun from the minds of writers Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing and artist Xermánico. But what's next for Clayface? We chat about Alan Tudyk's hilarious turn on Harley Quinn and whether Clayface will turn up in The Batman 2 from Matt Reeves. We also chat about the connections to Boris Karloff and Mike Flanagan's would-be take on this iconic character(s). Matt Reeves's gritty take on The Batman is currently cleaning up at the box office, with critics and audiences praising the director and star Robert Pattinson's new approach to the Caped Crusader. It's worth mentioning, though, that even before the franchise was ultra-successfully rebooted by Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, there were many other proposed Batman films pitched at Warner Bros in the wake of Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin. One that got close to happening was Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One, based on the comic by Frank Miller.Had the movie happened, Joaquin Phoenix and Christian Bale were on Aronofsky's list to play the role, and this movie came pretty close to happening. In this episode of WTF Happened to this Unmade Movie, we take a look at this project, as well as a lot of other Unmade Batman movies, including a direct sequel to Batman & Robin and even a reboot starring Clint Eastwood in the role as a grizzled, older Dark Knight.
Robert and Chase are pitching their ideas for a Batman movie! Robert is pitching a sequel to the Matt Reeves 'The Batman' movie while Chase is pitching his take on the Batman universe! Even if you've never seen Cloverfield (2008), you probably remember the splash it made when trailers first hit theaters. From the very first teaser, audiences were speculating about exactly what kind of monster movie it might be — and just how many monsters would appear. A decade and a half later, conspiracy theories still abound, but the real question here at Spooky Tuesday is this: Does this found footage flick hold up? On our latest episode, we're joined by Keep It Weird's Lauren Ogle as she helps us unpack all those ideas, examine our own issues with the film, and discuss one eeny-weeny tiny-winy essential lil detail that can be missed in the blink of an eye.Follow Keep It Weird on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. This week sees the release of DC and Matt Reeves' The Batman, which is getting some of the best reviews ever gotten by a superhero film. Indeed, the genre has become dominant, with it seemingly being propelled to new heights with each new entry. But, there was a time, in the years following 2000's X-Men and 2002's Spider-Man, and before 2005's Batman Begins, that Hollywood wasn't quite sure how to properly mount a superhero movie. Nowhere was this more evident than in 2004's misbegotten Catwoman. In a lot of ways, Catwoman should have been a hit. It had Halle Berry at the height of her fame as the star. She had just won an Oscar and helped propel the 007 film. Die Another Day, to record-breaking box office for the franchise. It had a director, Pitof, who many thought was a visionary following his French breakout Vidocq. Alas, things did not work out for this would-be franchise started, which opened to disastrous box office, even worse reviews and swept the Razzies, with Berry's opinion of the film so low she showed up to access her “award” in person. WTF happened to Catwoman? Plenty - as you'll see in this special episode of WTF Happened to this Movie.

James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the new DC Universe slate that crosses over into film, TV, animation, and video games. Before getting to the new universe, four projects are set to debut in 2023 - Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. During the events of The Flash, the universe is rebooted, forever altering the history and future of the DC universe. The new continuity begins with Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters! It currently features ten projects that span film, television, and animation. Beginning sometime in 2024, we'll be introduced to new characters from the Creature Commandos, and previously established characters like Amanda Waller and Peacemaker in Waller, a live-action series set between the events of Peacemaker Season 1 and Season 2. The following year, we'll meet this universe's new Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy, a feature film written by James Gunn, that introduces us to a Superman who's balancing his Kryptonian heritage and human upbringing in a world where true goodness is considered old-fashioned. In the original series Lanterns, space cops Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart make a discovery in Sector 2814 that leads to a much bigger DC event. For the first time, characters from the Wildstorm imprint will be making their cinematic debut in The Authority, a group of morally gray heroes who are dissatisfied with the world and decide to take matters into their own hands to fix it. Before Wonder Woman's birth, Paradise Lost will explore all the darkness, drama, and political intrigue behind this society of only women. In The Brave and the Bold, we will meet the new Batman and his sidekick, Robin, who also happens to be his real son, Damian Wayne. This feature will also introduce various members of the bat family into the DC universe. Booster Gold, an original series, introduces us to Michael Jon Carter, a loser from the future dealing with imposter syndrome who discovers a way to travel to our time to become a superhero. Based on Tom King's award-winning comic book run, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow introduces us to Kara Zor-el, Superman's cousin, who spent over a decade surviving on a remnant of Krypton and witnessing everyone around her perish. When she comes to Earth, she's a bit jaded and broken. Finally, Swamp Thing will explore the darker elements of the DC universe in this intriguing horror story. In a separate DC Elseworlds continuity, The Batman - Part II will debut in theatres on October 3, 2025, and will continue the story set up by Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson. Joker: Folie a Deux continues the story of Arthur Fleck's turn to the dark side and is joined by Harley Quinn. notes on a recording: All the way back in episode 0045, titled "Music to my Ears" I talked with Derek Richmond from the band DROPOUTS for the first time. Well, he's back and top of that DROPOUTS have a new album, Off the Leash (2022), that is now available on Spotify. What's really cool about this album is that they used a different lead guitarist for each of their songs. How cool is that! Derek also shares his inspiration behind their album cover. In this week's bonus episode we get into a ton of stuff. Not only does Derek come by to talk about his three favorite films of the year (All Quiet on the Western Front, The Batman, and Banshees of Inisherin) but he shares a story about his time at Pretty Bird and DANIELS (Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert). We begin our episode talking about the director duo, hot off 11 Academy Award nominations for their film "Everything Everywhere All At Once." This leads us to Derek's top 3, and in no particular ranking. I haven't talked about Edward Burger's All Quiet on the Western Front on the show yet. I watched it recently and was deeply moved and disturbed about the content of human callousness. It is a beautifully shot, gruesome and de-moralizing World War 1 epic that reminds me of a cross between "1917" and "Saving Private Ryan." This is a German film that can be found on Netflix. Next up, we talk another film that I haven't talked much about on the show, "The Batman." A film just as dark and gritty as the aforementioned WWI film, this was one of the best adaptations of the character I have ever seen. It reminded me a lot of the golden age of Batman comics in the late 80s, early 90s. I find out in this episode, that Derek collects comic books, so I see how he comes to appreciate the Matt Reeves film from a comics perspective and with an understanding of Batman as a detective. This film really captures the feel of some of the darker stories like Jeph Loeb's "The Long Halloween" and Frank Miller's Batman Year One. This one is also on HBO MAX. His last film in the top 3, "Banshees of Inisherin," which has made most of my guests top films of the year lists. If you haven't seen this film about the end of a friendship, hop on over to HBO MAX, because this film is seriously good despite it's deceptively simple premise. Of course, we shoutout the great performances from Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleason, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon-- these performances alone is reason enough to watch Martin McDonagh's well-written tale. And lastly, before the show's wrap up Derek gets into some honorable mentions (and one dishonorable mention) that include: Dio: Dreamers Never Die, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Northman, Hustle, and Emily the Criminal. Definitely, take a listen to this episode to get our full thoughts on and all these films! Now: off to the next film! Dial F for Film is a podcast about the love of movies and host's -- J. Carlos Menjivar -- attempt to watch 1001 movies before he dies. A lover of lists and film, Carlos is a firm believer that all film lists should be tackled with one goal in mind: completion. Steven Jay Schneider's "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" is the subject of this podcast. Each episode features one guest and five movies from the massive list, compiled into themed lists by the host. Guests each week will select one category without any prior knowledge as to what films are included. Once a category is chosen, Carlos reveals the five films and the viewing begins. The guests then come on Dial F for Film via Zoom and the discussion begins.

Believe it not, there were deleted scenes in this movie! Ben dives into what he found when reading through the script for The Batman. Were there moments that should have been in the movie? Or did Matt Reeves and company make the right call? Big thanks to our research assistant Dan Yamat for providing the visuals for this YouTube experience, as well as the usual QC and chapter time codes.
